I just moved to Virginia Beach and purchased a house with a long list of projects to do. I went to Taylor's Do It Center today to buy the materials for several of the home improvement projects. When I could not find some of the items I needed, I asked a young woman employee for help. I was very surprised that the employee was very unprofessional and condescending when she spoke with me. Normally, I have found hardware store employees to be some of the most friendly and helpful people. However, the Taylor's employee had a serious bad attitude and acted like I was bothering her by asking for help. When the employee was showing me an item and clearly did not understand what I was asking for, I rephrased it and tried to explain in more detail. She gnarled back in a nasty tone, "I know what toggles bolts are!" I also asked the employee for two sets of seven links of chain (to hang a decorative stained glass window). When she handed me the first chain it had eight links, so I asked her to please cut the extra one off (I had specifically asked for seven and that was the length I needed for this project). The employee again snarled and acted like it was some inconvenience for her to give me the correct length. I don't expect all salespersons to have to be friendly, but they should at least be professional. After dealing with this rude employee, I decided to just purchase what I had and leave the store. I drove a mile down the road to another hardware store. Upon entering the other store, a salesperson asked (without any solicitation by myself) if I needed help and then assisted me in finding all the other items I needed today. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Taylor's... which is their loss since I have a very long list of do it yourself home projects and they could have had all my business.
