Never heard back when trying to set up an in person appointment.
Description of Work: I needed to have a tree trimmed back and sent pictures showing the job to be done. There were a few emails that went back and forth and I was told there would be a $500 minimum charge which I was ok with and then responded about them coming over to meet in person. I never hard a thing again and then hired someone else. Paid $560 with the other and they will be hired for more work in the near future. Guess this business definitely doesn't care about what they see as small jobs.

Large tree closely adjacent to my home and privacy fence trimmed. The skill, professionalism and expertise demonstrated by the foreman and crew was certainly impressive. His ability to cut and drop the large limbs was precise thus avoiding any damage to my property and I was quite impressed. Clean-up was complete and complemented by their blowing sawdust off the roof that had accumulated during the trimming process. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone seeking tree removal and/or trimming.

The service was scheduled for a Wednesday but they ahd a cancelation and contacted me to see if they could move me up to Monday (1 Aug 2016). I was available and wanted to be home when the work e=was done. They arrived promptly at 8:30 AM as promised and after a brief walk around, they began work. They completed the entire job in 1 day (8:30 AM to 4PM) and left my yard looking better than when they arrived (leaves etc. in the yard). The removed all debris and left the driveway and street in clean condition. Simon is very knowledgeable in trimming trees and did a professional job. He checke with me as he progressed to ensure I was satisfied with the work. When he was finished, I asked him to take a few more branches off two trees and he obliged. I was happy with the work done and their response to my questions over e-mail to arrange for the work. I ahd no communication problems and they came when they said they would and finished a rather big job (in my opinion) in one day. Four large trees - two maples and two river birch trees over 40 feet high. They used a "bucket" truck for three of the tress and had to climb one that they could not get the bucket truck close enought to accommodate the work. They were careful to ensure the larger cuts did not hit the house or damage bushes under the trees. I feel I got my money's worth and I was very satisfied with the work done. John and Quinton assisted and kept the debris to a minimum during the entire process. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I requested tree trimming services for several large trees around my home. Four large trees and several smaller trimming jobs. Simon (owner) came by and gave me an estimate for the job.

They cut the trees in over a time period of 2 days with 1 week in between. The first cleanup after cutting went excellent. The second cleanup went well in the yard, however, after the logs were picked up, the street was left full of tree debris. We were on vacation at the time, and we had hoped that the company would have driven by after the log pickup to ensure that the premises were left in a good state. Overall the experience was very positive. Some of these trees were 120 ft tall - no damage to our property. Job well done.
Description of Work: We had 9 pine trees removed from our yard. Company used crane to remove trees, which cut down a lot on lawn maintenance afterwards. Guys were great and professional.

Description of Work: Requested a tree cut and stump removed. An estimate was done within a week. Their team did an awesome job of removing my tree and all debris within 6 hrs. Even temporarily removed my fence and anything around my backyard to prevent damage. Stump was removed later. Pricing was reasonable and they was very knowledgeable. I will definitely be recommending them to others.

I tried SEVA Tree Service because they had an Angies List Coupon and some nice reviews by previous customers. We had some initial miscommunications regarding when estimator would come to review the job, and then again when the team would show up to do the job. But, the quality of work was worth the frustration of the schedule mix-up. They were so apologetic about the schedule miscues that they removed the two added trees at no additional cost. Their clean-up of the area was impeccable. Like previous reviewer, I found that they left it better than they found it. My son has since used them to remove 6 large pines from his property. He had now scheduling miscommunications and he was equally impressed by their quality of work and professionalism throughout. I would definitely use them again.

I bought an Angie's special - $99 for $250 worth of tree trimming service. The manager (owner?) of the company came to my house on a Sunday afternoon when I wasn't expecting him, but just happened to be at home. He told me that he had come to schedule my appointment for the tree trimming. Right away, he told me I had to pay $100 in addition to the $99 I had already paid to cover the cost of his men coming from Virginia Beach to Norfolk to do the work. I felt like I was had. Like it was a bait and switch, but I had already paid the $99, so I agreed to pay the additional $100. All this so that I could get a few branches of my magnolia tree cut so that they did not rub against my house. When the work was actually done (I wasn't home at the time), a great swath of my magnolia tree was missing. It was definitely overkill. The only good thing is that I won't have to have my tree trimmed for 3 or more years because so much was cut off. I won't use this company again. I felt abused for having to pay $100 to cover their transportation costs. I wasn't in a hurry to get the work done; they came at their convenience. I think the manager should have scheduled several customers in the area on the same day and I shouldn't have had to pay extra. Also, what I thought was a simple job which should have taken 5 or 10 minutes, was blown up into a job that dramatically changed the look of my tree. When the manager was at my house discussing the job, we never talked about him taking so much off of the tree, including a huge branch with a diameter of over 5 inches. This whole experience gives me a bad taste in my mouth for this company and for Angie's List. I have been an Angie's List customer for about 5 or more years. I don't think I will renew my membership.

We apologize for the miss communication - $350 for trimming a Magnolia tree is well within industry standard - we as a company will always factor the cost of a commute (5 employees on the clock / fuel) into our estimates - we are not a charity. We apologize for the scope being out of line; even though we did more than you asked for I can see why you would be upset.

They're thorough, courteous, and professional. Mike -- one of the co-owners -- arrived on time on Saturday to provide an estimate -- to which they adhered: there were no surprises on the final bill. On the day the work was done, a 4- or 5-man crew arrived at the beginning of the planned window. The job -- which included trimming 2 large trees, removing a dead willow tree (and grinding the stump), and removing all debris -- was completed in an hour less than the estimated time. There was no damage to my lawn or property: you wouldn't know they had been in my yard unless you had seen, beforehand, the 2 trees greatly in need of trimming and the willow in the back yard that had breathed its last a long time ago. I'll definitely call the folks SEVA Tree Service for any tree trimming or removal in the future. This work was initiated through SEVATS' coupon offered to Angie's List customers: $99 for $250 worth of work. The price of our needs far exceeded the $250, but that was just the nature of the beast. The total bill was for $850; our out-of-pocket cost was $700 (the coupon brought a net reduction of $150).

it went well. I wanted to have my tall trees cut down thinking they would grow branches from the new height. The company could have charged me the additional $600 for the work but instead educated me that cutting grown trees in the manner I was asking would lead the trees to die. I will wait until they sign on again with Angie and will be buying their next coupon to do the work they suggested.

This was my second consecutive year SEVATS has pruned my varied species trees throughout my property. There was a difference between the two years. Last year I got a quote for specific trees. This year was based on an hourly rate, but this year one line item was a commute fee equal to one hour's work ($150). I was taken back by the commute charge. Michael explained previously the commute fee had always been factored into quotes such as 2015. I was very pleased with 2015 and decided to see how this would work out. The total for 2016 was $450 less $250 (my Angie's List Deal coupon I purchased for $99). So I was in for the additional $200. Simon and his crew arrived exactly on time. This year their company added a bucket truck to their equipment. Before it arrived, Simon asked if he could prune limbs from two huge pines that overhang both sides of the driveway entrance. He wanted to prune them rather than drive the bucket truck through them and risk ripping them off and damaging the pines. I had my priority list for pruning that Simon and I went over and honestly didn't think they would complete. Once we finished that their crew went to work. As 2015 they are a highly coordinated team - each member had an assigned task and they just went to it. They absolutely flew through my list - with time to spare - Incredible. I have only found maybe a dozen small twigs in the yards. More than 15 trees were pruned in the back and 8 in the front, so lots of debris transited to their chipper. Turns out the 2016 business model worked out better than 2015. My recommendation is know that the commute fee is not a big deal because I got a BIGGER BANG for my $'s than last year and I thought last year was fantastic. Michael and Simon are a great team. Michael has done the quotes and Simon is operations. They deliver a very complete service that is excellent.

Mike came out to look at the trees and emailed me an estimate that afternoon. Due to a recent storm that downed a lot of trees in our area, he told me it may be 3-4 weeks before they could get to me. But they fit me in within 2 weeks. The guys who came out to do the work were very professional. They listened as I told them what I wanted and I really felt they knew what they were doing. They did a great job and the trees turned out just as I expected. Mike emailed me the invoice promptly, and it included a link to pay by Paypal. Very easy. I would use this company again.

I have a lot of trees and was concerned about their health and had problems creating a decent lawn in the front yard where I have three really large oak trees. Went on Angie's List and selected the highest rated thinking I would end up getting several quotes. I had work done previously but could not find the contact so I had a good idea what it should be. I called SEVA on Thursday, October 8 and left a voice message for someone to call me back. Michael called me back the next day on Friday and set up an appointment for the following day to look at the property, make recommendations and provide a quote. Michael showed up on time and walked the property with me making recommendations and advising me on the health of my trees. Working with Michael I decided the work that I wanted done and he provided me with an estimate. It was much better than I expected so based on the quote, his manner and Angie's list rating I decided to go ahead. Later that day he sent me an email with the quote for approval. I went back and added some additional work and he responded immediately. When he was here he said the first they could schedule was for 30 days out however the next day on Sunday Michael called and due to a change they were able to come on Monday, October 12 if I were agreeable. I agreed. They arrived on time, were courteous and professional. Simon and his team worked from 9 to 5 and completed the entire job. They cleaned up and except for the change made by the work left everything the way they found it (even cleaner in some cases). The only thing that is not part of the agreement is removing the ground stump which is left to the homeowner to do. I am completely satisfied and as they also do landscaping will be setting up an appointment for them to help me prepare the lawn and front beds once I have the ground stump moved.
Description of Work: Removed three large oak trees and ground the 3 stumps in front; ground 2 other stumps; elevated and thinned a grouping of 4 large maple trees and elevated and thinned out a large gumball and maple tree that were cabled together coming from the same base in back, Scaled holly tree off house and shaped it. Thinned out a small dogwood tree and ground the surface roots on the larger trees.

The actual work was great. Three guys came in and took the 35 ft. tree right down. There was no damage to fences, sheds, houses, or anything else AND they cleaned the entire area afterwards. It was truly beautiful work. GREAT JOB GUYS! That being said, it is rather difficult to get ahold of Mike to set up an actual appointment to do the work. MIke, the owner, came out and looked at the tree, gave me an estimate, and I agreed and signed the paperwork. Then Mike said he'd call me the following Sunday or Monday to set up a time to do the actual work. He didn't, so I gave him a couple of days and then called that Friday (after the Sunday or Monday he was supposed to have called me). I got ahold of him, and he apologized, but then still didn't set a date or time and said he would call me back in a couple of days. He didn't. Nobody did. I called and left a message, which was not returned. Called again a few days later, again no response. This went on for 3 weeks. I know it's their busy season and all, but it took ME finally 3 weeks later to set a date by choosing it myself by text, saying "I really need to get this scheduled, how about the 20th of August?" I got a text back agreeing, but no time. So I sent back a text asking what time, and he texted back "9 am". They did show up that day, but were late by several hours. They did call me that morning to let me know they were going to be late, so that was ok. After this experience my advice to anyone would be to actually schedule the work THE DAY, right then and there, when Mike comes out to do the estimate and you sign the paperwork. Agree AND have him text the date and time for the work to you while standing right next to him, AND put it in the contract as well. Otherwise you might be in for a long wait to schedule the actual work, with no idea what's going on. While being told they'll get ahold of you, but they don't. I'm really not sure I would hire SEVA again. The work was absolutely great, the workers themselves were awesome, polite, knew their stuff, and the cleanup job was really nice. But the customer service by the owner, Mike, just wasn't there. I know it's busy season and all, but if you're a business owner and you say you're going to contact a customer, don't let them fall through the cracks like that for 3 weeks while saying over and over you'll get with them to set it up. SEVA needs to get an actual scheduling secretary, and then I might consider hiring them again one day because the work itself was super good.

Michael Hall came by my property 3 weeks prior to the actual service to get details for estimate. He acted with professionalism and gave me a reasonable estimated which was comparable to a prior contractor. He sent me an email with the estimate in writing, and answered my calls right away when I had questions. The work crew (Chris, Corey, and Simon) were very friendly and accommodating. They started on the tree removal at 1pm and 90% was removed by 4pm. They grinded 3 of the 4 stumps during the last hour before they ended the day at 5pm. The were working hard and acted professionally during the entire afternoon. I was impressed how careful Chris and Corey were in sawing the top portion of the tree as they had to drop the wood in a precise location in order to avoid the power lines. The entire job was complete by noon time the following day. I asked them (after they had cleaned up and about to head to the next job) to make sure all the roots were taken out from the tree they took down (as I was planning to lay down concrete where the old tree used to be), and without hesitancy, they went and grinded the specific area where they may have missed. Chris, who operated the grinder machine, made sure that all the roots were taken out. I was fully satisfied after the second go-around on the root removal. Also, as a favor, they were able to cut down a hanging limb from my pine needle tree without extra charge! lOverall, I was very pleased by the work they accomplished. The quality workmanship, timeliness, and clean-up are the main factors why I grade SEVA an A+!
