Not recommended. Contract stated 4-5 weeks completion on a less than 100 square foot master bathroom. Took 15 weeks after numerous mistakes. Example is the door we wanted on the closet was to match the rest of the house. He ended up taking the door off the other upstairs bathroom to match with the doors for the master bath. He had to install a different door in the other bathroom that does not match. The glass shower wall and door arrived with the wall 4 inches taller than the door. The owner Tom Davis is absent after the contract is signed. You will never see him again unless you surprise him at his office. I asked for a final walk through inspection and was told to just tell his workers my concerns. Mr. Davis is totally uninvolved and uninterested after you sign the contract and he has half of your money up front. Mr. Davis outright lied to me several times on the phone. When he called for his final payment I expressed my concerns over the shoddy finish work. The walls have numerous defects and nail pops that I was told would be fixed. The final paint job they just painted over all the defects. No plaster and sandpaper fixes before paint. Unsatisfactory considering the massive amount I paid for this job. Mr. Davis told me he would have his guy come out but not this week because he was busy on another job. That was in early August. 11 weeks later and I am still waiting. I did send the final payment when he called 11 weeks ago. Just another example of Mr. Davis dishonesty. I had a two story addition and a second two car garage built in less time it took to finish my puny master bath. Numerous times my wife stayed home waiting and they never showed up. I finally had to tell Mr. Davis if he does not let me know he is coming my wife would not be home. Communication and coordination is poor to non existent. I would not recommend Mr. Tom Davis or his company Marjos complete remodeling.

BEWARE BEWARE!!! DO NOT TRUST this company Marjos and the owner Tom Davis. I had a small studio that I was renovating and he approached me to give me a bid. I had a budget of 10k to remodel the studio. His bid for just the kitchen cabinets came back with a price of close to 11,000.00. After I gasped he came back with a new figure over 9,000.00. Not having done a kitchen remodel ever we thought that price was the going rate for these things. Fortunately we did not sign anything, left and went to Lowes where they designed the exact kitchen for around 5,000.00 including all electrical and plumbing. We called Mr. Davis' company and declined their services and his secretary asked for us to please come back and give him a chance to speak with us. My mistake was going back. He suddenly said that he could give us kitchen cabinets similar to those of Lowe's but they weren't going to be the quality of his... Why didn't he offer those to us when we came into his business knowing our budget the first time? Good question right? Well we unfortunately made a bad decision and we used him. He made us sign a contract for the amount for the cabinets, paid half and then full amount upon completion. When it was realized that I needed two new exterior doors he was very careful as to call me and explain the cost of these doors. I stated it was. He drew up another contract and we signed it and paid in full. This is where it goes south. He did some other smaller misc work that he never discussed price with me or ever had me sign a contract for. After the work was completed I asked Mr. Davis for our final bill so we can square things up. He continued to put me off, month after month for a total of 7 months and then presented me with "bill" with no prices. I then asked him what this was and to please give us the bill. FINALLY we get a bill with a price..That bill was just shy of 10k. No receipts for this work or how he came up with this astronomical price. When we confronted Mr. Davis about this bill he was firm on his price and stated that we were getting a deal. Well, I had two professionals who also do renovations come and review his work and give me a bid of what he would charge which totaled between 3-4k. They also stated that we were ripped off on the previous work Marjos had performed but had already paid in full. The doors that he installed were already falling apart at the frames and when asked to fix them he stated to us that if we paid our bills he would fix our doors. Mind you we did pay that bill in full according to our signed agreement. When I threatened him I would sue him if he did not back his work he was quick to fix the doors. I paid this man an additional 3k, wrote him a letter stating that he would not be getting anymore money from us and included my last payment of 2k stating final and last payment which he cashed. Months later he decides to sue us for not paying the remaining balance of his bill we never contracted with him, was never brought to our attention and NEVER had us sign for anything as I would have not agreed to any of it. This man has done this time and time again, has been fined by DPOR and continues to do business. He has had multiple complaints and suits against him. DPOR fines him each time for 250.00??? That's it? What this man has done and continues to do is unethical and illegal according to violations of the board regulation 18 VAC 50-22-260 {B} {6}. Our lawsuit was filed incorrectly on Mr. Davis' part and had to be refiled. I hired an attorney which cost me more money and after a missed deadline on Mr. Davis' part and him having an attorney of his own look things over it was advised by Mr. Davis' attorney that he didn't have a case and it was dismissed. I will be filing a DPOR complaint against this man who has cost me thousands of dollars not to mention the stress over this past year. Hopefully DPOR will finally do something to this man who continues to break the law and scam people out of money.

The contractor arrived 45 minutes late with no explanation and no apology. I lead him to the Master Bath and explained I had hoped to replace the standard size tub with a larger one, eliminating the shelf in the tub enclosure. However, after receiving multiple estimates I realized it would be cost prohibative in addition to being an unwise investment given the neighborhood. At this point he interrupted me to inquire as to how long I planned to live in the house and if I thought to sell it or keep it as rental property. I further explained, that I was coming to understand my neighborhood fairly well and would rather spend a little more in the kitchen rather than investing multiple thousands in the Master Bath. I explained that I only wanted to replace the existing tile in the tub enclosure, repair any water damage to the shelf or sub-floor, lay ceramic tile on the bathroom floor, replace the vanity with a larger one and frame out the existing large mirror. He quickly advised these were poor decisions. He said because there is another full bath on the same level, he would recommend removing the tub entirely and replacing with a shower only (a 6'x3' shower - yes that makes sense). However, if I wasn't interested in a huge shower, then the shelf should be removed, the plumbing shifted (or the remaining two walls moved), and a faux wall installed. He said the mirror could be replaced for less than it would cost to frame it with wood trim (really, four pieces of wood, some primer and paint are more expensive than a much smaller $200 mirror). He said a larger vanity wouldn't be necessary but I could select one from the showroom if I'd like. After telling me how each of my choices were not the best way to move forward, he smiled and said to tell him what I wanted, then he would provide a quote for that. After me repeatedly explaining what I wanted and him repeatedly telling me what a bad idea it was, he then invited me to his showroom. From there they could provide an estimate based on my selections. A woman has called several times attempting to make an appointment for me to visit the showroom, however I'm not interested in trying to convince a contractor I'm paying to do the work I want. While he seemed to be a nice guy and said several times he wanted to provide an estimate for what I wanted done, he didn't appear to be listening and almost came across as condescending.

Response from Marjos Complete Remodeling
Member, I'm sorry you are of this opinion of Marjos. If Mr. Davis was late, we called, we always call every customer if there is any chance of a delay. If I'm correct in my notes I left a message for you on that occasion as well as others. My copy of your record shows that from 10-24 through 12-6 we made numerous attempts to contact you, leaving voice mails and never received a return call. That would have allowed us to see that your budgeted amount of $1500 meant you were looking for something different. No matter what ideas Mr. Davis offers, the bottom line is that we always provide an estimate and do the work that the customer wants. I wish you have expressed your concerns with us and we could have refocused Mr. Davis and priced things exactly as you noted. I do believe that the grading you gave is inconsistent with our attempts to contact you, respond to your original call and that the lack of communication attempts were not on our part. We hope you have found a way to have your project done, that is what we wish for all our customers.

My tenants wanted a dishwasher, but I couldn't see how one could be installed based on the kitchen layout. Tom Davis, owner of Marjo's, came out and assuredly assessed how it could be done. He had his tradesman, Mark, come out to do the job which included removing cabinet doors/drawers, building side panels to fit around the DW, installing side walls, rebuilding shelves, laying vinyl floor under, and hooking up water and electrical. The outcome looks as tho the DW was part of the original plans of the kitchen. Tom determined a great location for it that only enhanced the workability of the kitchen.
Description of Work: I have a rental house in Virginia Beach that did not have a dishwasher. Tom Davis, owner of Marjo's, came out and assessed where and how a dishwasher could be installed. His tradesman, Mark, did a top-drawer job of reconfiguring the cabinetry to accomodate a dishwasher. He removed two cabinet doors/drawers, installed exterior side panels to fill in around the dishwasher, and installed interior side walls to separate it from the cabinet areas. He also laid a new piece of sheet vinyl under the DW. The kitchen now looks as though it was designed with a dishwasher. Very pleased with outcome and so are my tenants.

My husband called them fishy. The estimator took all the measurements when he came out. We had told him what we needed to get done and so he said that he had to go back to his showroom to get the quote. He then gave us a quote when we were back in his showroom about an hour later. I pretty much knew what I wanted but he didn?t give us any choices and he just informed about what everything was going to be. About a week later, when I called to ask him for a detailed breakdown of labor and parts, he said that he doesn?t do that. He then called me back when he found out that I was searching for somebody else. He told me that the downstairs bathroom bid was a bit high. So he said that if we gave him the supplies, then they would do the labor for free. I felt that it wasn?t right because he was going to charge us $3000 for labor. He did this as soon as he found out that I was looking for other people. He chose everything instead of taking our suggestions and he could have put in a $150 bathtub. We wanted custom made bathroom vanity and Marjos was going to provide one from his catalog. He wasn?t like extremely pushy and he seemed very confident, which isn?t really a bad thing. There is a lady by name Trish in his showroom who helps him and they seemed like a team, together. They were very nice people. We went to their showroom to look at their work and it does look very nice. We don?t know as to how to proceed with the work since this is our first time that we are having some remodeling work done. He was going to supply the tiles for us. I would tell people to go to their showroom and talk to them. He might be a good fit for someone else but he wasn?t a good fit for us. He was very responsive, punctual and professional too. He was mainly overpriced and we didn?t get any options for selecting. We would not use their services in the future.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Marjos Kitchens & Baths in June for completely gutting as well as redoing an upstairs bathroom and for redoing the downstairs half bath too. The walls would be left in the downstairs bathroom but there would be a new sink, a new toilet and a new floor installed.

We did not even bother to have him look at the second bathroom. The good news was that it did not waste much time - ours or theirs.
Description of Work: We plan to totally remodel 2 bathrooms. The estimator came and spent just a few minutes looking at one bathroom at which time he gave us an estimate THREE times higher than the highest bid we have had so far. We have had 3 other companies come and give us bids; 2 bids are in and one is pending. The gentleman from Marjos indicated that they were really too high end for us. I had read that they were expensive, but this was ridiculous $25,000 for a 40 square foot bathroom!

Marjos has some very nice people. They seem inclined however to find out how much you are willing to spend first. From this, they tend to scope-out a project in order to spend all in your budget, whether it's what you really asked for or not. Before going with Marjos, do your homework and find out what things really cost. Get at least three other estimates, and check your references. After doing more research, we were very surprised (and disappointed) to discover how expensive Marjos is. They wanted a lot more to produce less than we wanted. Several alternate contractors submitted well developed proposals which included everything we had originally asked for, many thousands of dollars below Marjos bid. It's possible the addition was beyond what they normally do, which might explain the huge cost difference between them and a few other contractors. My guess is that they're probably very good at simple kitchen and bathroom remodeling.
Description of Work: Our original plan was to expand a master bedroom suite via an addition, remodel a bathroom, and close in an existing screen porch to make a sunroom. Marjos produced a plan to remodel a bathroom without an addition, update a kitchen with new cabinets, counter-tops, sink and do the screen porch conversion.

I used Marjos to do my other bathroom so I called them again. They are very good. Their honest and the crew are hard workers. They kept me informed on all phases of the work. I recommend them highly. They cleaned up everything. This project was under $5,000.
Description of Work: They did a complete makeover in the downstairs bathroom. They did drywall, painting and plumbing.
