 + -1 morePhil then suggested that we have a new, very similar setting created and use the diamonds from the original ring. I was, of course, heartbroken to lose the original, but the new one is better in every way! It's sturdier, it's even more gorgeous and it makes me smile every time I look at it!!!!! THANK YOU FOR TERRIFIC WORK! Remember, that the cost of service listed is for the cost of the NEW SETTING using EXISTING DIAMONDS! They were also thoughtful enough to call me and ask if I wanted the ring appraised as their appraiser was coming in the day before we were to pick it up. Although we haven't received the appraisal yet, I'm sure it's due to the Holiday Mail situation.
Description of Work: My engagement ring had fractured along a line of diamonds and after careful analysis by Phil. the store owner, it was determined that it was not repairable to the extent that it could be fully trusted to hold together.

 + 0 moreThe estimate was free but since it was outsourced to a watch repairman I was told up front it would not be fast. I was OK with that and in a couple of weeks I had the estimate. I felt the estimate was reasonable so I had the work done - again the staff at Madison informed me that it would not be a fast turn around. In a couple of weeks I got the call that my watch was ready to be picked up. The watch now works fine. I have known Phil for several years and highly recommend his business.

 + -1 moreI brought in a bracelet, necklace and my wedding ring. Each needed to be repaired. They put two new links on my necklace and replaced the clasp. They also soldered the butterfly that had broken off my bracelet. The stone in my wedding ring was loose and they reset tit. I was pleased with the repair work and would use them again in the future.

After shopping around, we took our gold in to Madison to sell, because of their review/rating on Angie's list Note: The gold buying companies like Chesapeake & Hilltop who advertise heavily gave us the worst offers for our gold They close at 5:00 PM, so as we were running late we telephoned and Phil, the owner, agreed to wait for us. He appraised our gold and made us an offer, which was in-line with the other offers we had, but slightly better. We had planned to continue shopping, but Phil made us very comfortable in that he was was an honest man and was giving us the best price he could, so we sold all of our gold to him, and have never entertained a 2nd thought about the deal we received. Would we recommend Madison to others? Absolutely!

 + 0 moregives a nice family touch to the shop. Though there are many jeweler's in my area, I have no problems driving 45 minutes to Madison's next time I am in the market to make a jewelry purchase. Overall a great experience. My wife and I left feeling that we had made a good decision in choosing Madison's.
Description of Work: My wife and I are were in possession of a 1.54 carat Round Brilliant diamond from her first marriage. We decided over a year ago to sell it and split the money between her two young children"s college funds. After much research she took it to a local jeweler and after meeting with them it was clear that they were trying to get her to sell the diamond to them at only half of what we though was fair value. Discouraged, she left with it and we just put it away. Recently we revisited the subject and again began to do some research into local companies that had excellent five star ratings in this category. We found the ratings and reviews for Madison's Jewelers and they were all stellar so we decided to contact them. After emailing the owner Phil, we received a phone call from him in less than twenty minutes. We gave him the stones details as listed in the GIA report and told him of our previous experience. He was quite frankly appalled at the initial price we had been quoted and was actually very apologetic that someone in the industry was basically trying to cheat us. We scheduled a meeting with him and found him to be very honest, forthright and amicable. He inspected the stone, gave us a range and told us that if he could have the stone further inspected he could probably buy it from us for more than he was initially offering. We agreed we exchanged the stone for a receipt. Phil got back with us the next day and informed us that he would be able to buy the stone for more than he initially thought. We made the transaction that totaled $8000.00. This was more than fair value based upon our research. The diamond industry is a little tricky because of the wide variance of prices between new and previously owned diamonds, their initial purchase price and there appraised values. We got a great deal from Phil at Madison's and I would highly recommend him to my friends and other Angie'sList members that may read this. My wife and I are both professional, well educated people and we know a professional when we meet them. Phil is a true professional at his trade. Just a few words about his store. His store is not some bewildering and disorienting warehouse of jewelry like a Jared's or some other chain. It is small but has a very impressive array of pieces. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and with the added touch of his two-year old Labrador hanging out behind the counter
