They were eager to take my blower as I walked in with the broken cord in my hand. I thought they would fix it right then and there. They put a tag on it, told me it would cost $25 and told me they would call me when it's ready. 4 days later I get a call it was ready. I asked the total price. He said ...^^%&^^$#@#%(*&$$@! (some mumbo jumbo).... and that will be an additional cost. He said the total comes to $47. There was no problems with my blower. I was using it. I stopped to talk with a neighbor. the cord broke when I tried to start it to finish my yard. It was not a new blower but it worked just fine. I arrived at the store and paid the $47. I tried to start it while at the store and with one pull the handle came off the cord. The Jedd took the blower to the back and 10 minutes later came back with the blower and the handle attached. I pulled it several more time and it would not start. Jedd didn't even look my way. I pulled it a few more times and it would not start. He asked when was the last time I used it. I explained, I was using it the day I bought it in. (What I don't understand is why didn't they try to start it before them called me that i was ready. Or at least pull the cord a couple times.) He said, oh. He didn't offer to look at it. He didn't make any suggestions. Nothing. I got the blower home and it has not started since. I ordered a new one from Amazon. I am disappointed in the service or lack of service from Jedd and the Portsmouth Land and Coates.

5 days later when they finally got to my mower, they said it needed a new carburetor because they had found some fouled gas in it and it would cost $140. I found that hard to believe, since I've run the mower less than a dozen times and it has only had clean, fresh gas run through it and it has never sat for more than a few weeks. I only paid $180 for the mower, so I asked if they could rebuild the carb. He said no, it was too hard with all the ports and such. So I said to set it aside and went and picked it up. I got on the Briggs & Stratton website and paid the $9.40 for the rebuild kit and when it came, I took the carb off and opened up the bowl. There was NO indication of fouling in there and the pin holding the float in place had worked itself loose and was sitting off to one side. So I went ahead and took everything apart and used some carb cleaner to run through the ports and there was no blockage. Put everything back together and made sure the pin was in place and put it back together. Thing started up on the first pull. So then I recalled taking my generator to them last year and they told me the same exact thing... needs a carb, and charged me a huge bill including the time spent waiting for the part to come in. This experience tells me that they didn't even bother to open the carb to diagnose it. If they had, they'd have found the misplaced pin, pushed it back in place, and I'd have been out the door for $35. Instead, they probably just confirmed spark, confirmed it wasn't running, and then decided to take the easy path at my expense. Yes, the new carb would definitely have gotten it running again, but so would the 2 seconds to just push the pin back in place. I won't be going back and don't recommend you use them, unless you have a few hundred bucks you want to waste on an unnecessary carburetor.
Description of Work: I bought a Troy Bilt lawn mower at Lowes in March. It stopped running and so I looked at the Troy-Bilt web site and they listed Land and Coates as an authorized service center. So I took the mower there expecting they'd work it under warranty, but when I got there they said no, they didn't do warranty work and the Troy-Bilt web site was wrong. So he said it would be a $35 diagnostic charge and so I said fine.

My 83-year old mother has been taking her lawnmowers to Land & Coates every year for Spring maintainence for at least 20-years. The price for the Spring tune-up is $49.95 plus parts and taxes. She took it in the first week in February, and they promised to have it ready in ten (10) business days. After six (6) weeks, and an equal number of lame excuses, we finally got the mower back. Land & Coates said it was in perfect shape, and we paid the tune-up fees. Ever since we got the mower back, the six (6) times we have used it, it has taken multiple pulls to finally get it to start. Finally, today, after another 20-pulls without starting, I took the spark plug and air filter out. It was painfully obvious that neither the spark plug nor air filter had been touched in several years. The screws and bolts had no sign of ever being removed. The spark plug was badly corroded, and the air filter was filthy with dirt, leaf particles and cobwebs. To add insult to the now obvious rip-off, the lawnmower blade was as dull as kindergarten scissors. Obviously from what I found, Land & Coates has been ripping my mother off for, at least, 2-3 years, and I'm sure there are countless other trusting souls that have, and are, likewise being hoodwinked by these characters. So do yourself a favor, and avoid doing any business with Land & Coates!

They did the work quickly and in a timely fashion. I have been going to them for a while now and they usually always know what they are doing. I have also just purchased a new lawn mower from them. I think highly of them and would recommend them.
Description of Work: I had taken my lawn mower to their shop to have the yearly maintenance done on it.
