I operate TLCVB in Virginia Beach. I have been a long time customer of KW1. I have been getting my mulch from these guys for about 4 years and I have always had a good experience, until yesterday. I come in to get a load of 4 yards of walnut, about my 3rd time this week, and I go to the pay booth and I realize the usual lady isn’t working. It is cold out but even on a cold day the window isn’t ever closed, and she comes and greets me before I can even say hello. Yesterday I’m standing there for about a minute waiting to get acknowledgment from the guy inside and there isn’t any. I notice he’s on his computer so I just try and open the window to say hello, and I’m actually greeted with a grunt of a yell saying I’ll be over in a minute bro. Knowing my background in customer service and the fact that he may be busy I keep my mouth shut and wait for him to open the window. He opens it. No hello or how you doing, it’s an abrupt what do you want. I say 4 yards of walnut. Again with an abrupt tone, he asks, what company? I go TLC. And then I tell him I’m paying wirh card. He proceeds to tell me the total, which I did question, and he goes on to yell at me for asking the pricing. I then ask, what’s going on man, you having a bad day? And he proceeds to say, I don’t need you telling me the pricing is wrong, which I just asked what’s the price per yard. Ultimately I ask for the “boss” Kevin to come over and he arrives over. He asked what’s going on and before I can talk, the guy with the big beard is telling his version of the story so I proceed to close his window and tell Kevin what happened. He goes in and talks to him, comes out and tells me it’s not my place to say anything about his employees actions and it’s for him to handle. I proceeded to say actually it is my place because he’s making me feel like I should take my business elsewhere. Kevin tells me to not threaten him and I can go elsewhere. End of story. I’ll leave it here for you to be the judge. Side note I found a great vendor that will actually deliver to my farm. It’s a win win. So thanks KW1! I found a better product anyways! Good luck guys.

I ordered 6 cy of compost to be delivered to the house. The girl who was working the office was polite and considerate. The price was very good and delivery went off without a problem. The compost was still steaming pretty good when it was delivered indicating it was not finished compost but I as not overly concerned. I ended up running all 6 cy through a sifter to remove all pieces larger than 1/4in. What I found was that over half the 6 cy of compost was nothing more that wood mulch. I actually had a large pile of compost and a large pile of mulch. I ended up using the mulch between my raised beds so I was not terribly upset. I wish it was finished compost but as cheap as it was I was not very upset. I would stay away from their compost if you are using it for a garden of leveling a yard. If you have deep holes to fill then it might not be so bad. I did go back for another 3 cy of their compost and after screening it I used it as a base for my raised beds but purchased better compost to finish the beds off. As a bottom layer in the raised beds it was worked okay.
Description of Work: I purchased a total of 9 cy of organic compost.

I measured myself - very much an amateur job, so I thought I needed more than I actually did. I rented my own truck to pick the mulch up. Long story short, the truck would only hold three cubic yards and when I dumped it at my house it turns out that's all that I needed. I immediately called and tried to get them to refund the other three yards that I never picked up but kept getting the run around. The girl kept telling me to call back and then when I'd call back she'd always say that there was no one in the back office or the "boss" that could fix it was out! After a week or so of this and feeling like something wasn't right, I finally emailed the company about it. A few weeks later I got an email explaining that the employee that I had been talking to should have handled it differently and never communicated the situation to the "back office" and was no longer with the company. I was told that I should call with my card info to get a refund of half the amount. I called and submitted my info and still never got the credit. Exhausted, I turned it over the credit card company. They couldn't work it out with the mulch company so they gave me a credit as a courtesy. Sorry, tried to make it short. The wrong measure was certainly my fault but I thought the company fell short on doing the right thing.
Description of Work: I bought 6 cubic yards of mulch.

NIce, very friendly people and they were very helpful. I wanted firewood for my wood stove insert and small back yard fire pit and their firewood fit the bill. If you looking for a shorter cut and split to a small manageble size, then this is the place, They were verand yen; helpful and loaded my small pickup by hand and the wood was all hardwood and a good consistent size. I plan on going back for another load.
