JES Foundation Repair

Punctual and polite. Evaluated foundation using observation and laser surveying. Told "man you house is sinking." Told i needed multiple foundation supports. Told if I act now I can save 10% on cost $500 on coupon. Total cost $17000 less discounts. Person evaluating had been working with JES for 1 year and was not a foundation engineer (ie: did not had a college degree in engineering)... I had to inquire about this specifically because he was not forth coming with his credentials. I had 2 other references from Angie list providers (one a VA Tech trained engineer, the other a builder for 40yrs), both listed as 'A' rated, who noted NO structural problems and the option of fixing minor problems only. This leads me to three conclusions about this evaluating 1. Incompetent 2. Misleading 3. The other two evaluations were wrong I am considering the minor structural repairs. Be weary. Ask about credentials. Get three opinions about your problem. Don't go for the hard sell for saving $1000-$2000 dollars. Estimated Cost: 17000.00

JES provided an analysis and quote to level our first floor kitchen and foyer so that we could tile and complete our kitchen remodel. John Jenney came to the house and went into the crawlspace and then told us that JES could level our floors to within 1/8th of an inch for $12,000. My contractor, my son and myself all heard him say this. My brother in law who is also a contractor was on the phone listening too. After completing their work we still have a kitchen floor that varies in height by 6/8th's of an inch within a span of a few feet in multiple places. After completing the work, the job foreman tells me that he would never have recommended the solution that John Jenney recommended. He said that our kitchen needed jacks in places that John Jenney did not see and that a rotting joist was missed entirely. A third JES specialist came out and went under the house and he had a different opinion from the first two of what work was required. Today two senior JES Managers came to our home and recommended the additional work that needed to be done at no cost to us. They will start that work tomorrow and complete on Monday March 10th. I will revise my evaluation at that time.

Job went fine...timeliness and worksmanship was fine. I don't see that I ever got the constantly advertised $500 off a rather expensive ($7000) project. However, the work had to be done since we had a real moisture and future mold problem if not addressed.

A great experience from start to finish. The arrived on time everyday and were very professional and took into consideration our needs with small children and dogs in the house. They performed excellent work and fixed an awful problem that we have been living with for a few year. Thank you JES.

We got several quotes. JES was certainly the most expensive, but the quality of the material and their reputation convinced us to go with them. The crew removed all the nasty insulation and debris and installed most of the wall board insulation the first day, then returned another day to lay the CleanSpace liner. We had them return several times to resolve some minor issues---they initially sealed the vents just with the foam board and our rodent visitors simply chewed through that on their return. JES came back and installed metal plates to block access through the vents then covered the metal with the wall insulation and clean space liner. They also re-bricked where the old access door had been (new door had to be cut in order to move the dehumidifer into the space. The crew worked very hard, was professional, and returned as necessary to ensure we were satisfied. My only complaint was that I wish they would have swept the twenty-some years of dust and rodent dirt and droppings from the horizontal surfaces before laying the liner. Second issue--not JES's fault, but as a result of doing the encapsulation, our termite prevention provider refused to continue to honor its guarantee and repair bond because they are unable to view the foundation with the encapsulation installed. Building code only requires the inspection gap at the top, but the provider is free to have its own policies. It's strange, because some termite companies also now do crawl space encapsulation themselves! Because of the necessary shift to a new provider, the new provider had to install its own termite control system, which tacked an additional thousand dollars onto our project. We were very pleased with JES's work. Though this was a very expensive project, I feel it was well done and JES stands by their work.

An actual licensed engineer did the inspection and worked up the specs for repairs. He inspected the entire crawl space, not just the areas for the problems that we had called about. He was very good at explaining in terms we could understand what the problems were caused by and what work was needed to correct. He provided us a firm quote rather than an estimate for the work. Considering how expensive foundation work can be, it was comforting to know that the cost wouldn't unexpectedly rise. Work crews were punctual, polite and professional. We have a composite wood deck which was installed just a year earlier and some of it had to be removed in order to install the push piers under the back wall. I was very concerned that this would be damaged and I let them know about this during the initial inspection. The crew supervisor took additional time before starting to carefully plan how this should be done. The short story is that they removed what was necessary, installed the push piers, and re-installed the decking with absolutely no damage. We also had them make a new crawl space access door. The supervisor built one on the second day but was not satisfied due to some minor flaws and build another prior to leaving after all other work was completed. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards, Although I have some engineering training and knowledge, I don't know enough about foundations to judge the quality of the work. However, based on the explanations they gave me (which all made sense) and the systems they used to correct the problems, I am rather confident that their work was done to a high standard. I gave them a B (Good) for Price because it is hard to say that such an expensive repair is an Excellent price. However, I do feel I got my money's worth.

Horrible service. They were not installed correctly and the job is still not done and it is two weeks later. They were very unprofessional and I would never use them again.

The workers were very diligent and they came in at 9AM and worked until 7PM and worked very hard for three days. I was very pleased with them. They did a great job cleaning up after themselves as well. I would recommend them to anyone.

Representative was very prompt, professional, He answered all my questions and was very informative. He had a great personality.

He was very courteous and professional, but did arrive about an hour late. They were supposed to send me a written quote so I could go to the bank for financing. However, he never responded back. I even tried to call them and got no response.

He never showed up as promised to pick up the money. No phone call, no follow-up, no nothing. I realized he had never given me his card with his cell so I could contact him. I could've called the 800# again but why? It was clear they didn't want the business.

I had a lot of moisture. I had plastic down but I was still getting lots of moisture creating fungus eating the joists in my foundation. Terminix came out and treated the joist. Then JES encapsulated the basement and now it is much drier. I have major problem here east coast with mold and mildew, it is very difficult to treat.

These people didnt even bother to show up at the appointment we had set and confirmed. Then I got a "please rate your experience" questionaire in an email from them. I just laughed. Then, when a representative called me a couple of days later, she took an accusatory tone towards me in a voicemail she left regarding their screwup. I informed them that I had to make a descion that weekend on who to use as I do not live in the same area as the property, and would only be able to meet on a certain day, and they were happy to accomodate....and they were also happy to lose 20k in business.

it went well but a little expensive

After inspecting the crawl space of my house for termites, a termite inspector recommended that I have some of the wood under the house replaced due to what he said was mold growth. He said he could do the job for $2200. I saw a coupon in ValuPak and decided to called JES for an expert opinion and made an appointment. Ian Carleo showed up right on time and inspected the crawl space. He is an engineer and was very professional and knowledgeable. I had many questions and he patiently answered them all. He took pictures and moisture readings in the crawl space and showed me the pictures and informed me that I did not have a moisture problem, or mold. He clearly explained what he looked for in the crawl space, what he found, and what options exist for crawl space improvements. I was very impressed with Ian's knowledge, professionalism, and patience.

Everything went very well once a schedule was agreed upon. The work was completed in the 2 day time frame that was outlined in their proposal. The only issue I had after the work was complete was that the farm sink and appliances in the basement were not reconnected and put back in their original position. Not a big problem, but it should have been addressed as their moving out of the work space was part of the planned job. It was easier for me to reconnect the plumbing and move the appliances back into position rather than call back and make arrangements for a return trip and another day off of work for me. All in all, I'm very happy with their work, the price and I would call them again for future work.

JES is the leader in their field. I knew their system was what I needed for crawlspace moisture control after nearly a year of research. What sold me wasn't their system, however. Ian Carleo, their sales representative, listens to needs and matches a one for one solution to the issues at hand. He didn't try to sell me "fries with that" or anything else unnecessary. In fact, he even talked me out of something I was considering, which would have made the sale bigger. This built trust, and I appreciated it more than he may realize. He provided me with all the "before" pictures and wasn't high-pressure while I made my decision. Ian was the reason I signed on the same day of the estimate. I rarely recommend salespeople, especially being in sales myself, since it's rare to find someone that is more interested in my needs than making the sale. Ian is that guy. And just as good is the JES team the followed. The scheduled date was like clockwork, and the crews very clean and respectful. The work was performed promptly and to an outstanding degree of my personal satisfaction. Ian followed with a visit to shoot "after" pictures and provide moisture control readings once the dehumidifier had been working for a few weeks in the new cleanspace environment. I would recommend this product and company to anyone looking to protect their property investment, and if you can, request Ian to work with you. Kudos, JES, for making me an enthusiastic customer!!! Extremely well. Installation crew was very professional; we were kept informed along every step. The proof is seen in yearly inspections: no mold, no evidence of terminates, and house HVAC has shown improved balance. Sump pumps definitely the solution to our ground water problems under the house. Saw these folks at Home Improvement shows before we joined Angie's List. We are very happy with their work, AND they return annually to maintain the pumps and dehumidifier as well as inspect for mold and insect problems.

The quote was really high. There is a lot of work to be done and I'm pretty sure that it is coming with the work to be done. I just felt for the whole package, it was a tremendous amount of work and they were able to break it down into units for us. They are some things we need to do before we can contract them to do anything. It was a very good experience. They came out on Sundays, both times and spent a tremendous amount of time with us going over everything. They went under the house and took pictures. They were extremely thorough and very professional. It's just that we weren't able to jump right on it, right away. Their punctuality and communication was very good. When we called them, we got a call back within a day. We got several follow up calls from the agent that came to the house.

I was thoroughly satisfied with the professionalism and responsiveness of this firm and this evaluator.

The inspector was pleasant and knowledgeable. Initial inspection was professional and courteous. The installers were on-time and handled the job very well. I always knew what was happening and when. The trouble came in after the job was completed. I had told JES that I was going to be out of town when the masons came to complete the job and that I would not pay JES until I could inspect the finished work. That would be about 5 days after their predicted completion date. If they we not OK with that, let's reschedule when I could be at the site when they finish so I could reject or pay immediately. The sales tech and the scheduler agreed to these terms and it was noted in writing in the contract. When they finished the job I got rather testy phone calls every day demanding payment. Each time I explained the situation and told them to stop calling until I get home and inspect the completed work. This had no effect on their behavior. The phone calls continued. I got home when promised. Inspected the work and sent them a check immediately. They continued to hound me until they cashed the check. How a company that does a decent job up front can 1) not pay attention to the contract with regard to payment, 2) not honor my requests to stop the harassing calls, 3) leave the job and blow any customer good will due to administrative ugliness; is totally beyond my comprehension.

They were excellent. They were always on time. They always kept in contact, and they worked very well with our electricians.

YOU SHOULD READ THIS BEFORE YOU LET JES OR DO WORK ON YOUR HOUSE I was given a $19,000 estimate for an incorrectly diagnosed problem. The quote was for installing 14 push piers and the required building permits. The most insulting part of the whole ordeal was that after the JES inspector explained to me the work that needed to be done and the price of the work, he said, "I can offer you a 10% discount on our services if you agree to the repairs today at this meeting." Instead of agreeing to allow JES to do the work, I said I would get back to them later. I then called a structural engineer to assess the problem. The real problem- a single joint needed more support because it had too heavy of a load on it from an upstairs wall. Cost to repair the actual problem - $1,000. My father is a mining engineer. He accompanied the structural engineer in his inspection, so I have complete faith in the accuracy of the assessment of the structural engineer. It is disturbing to me that the JES inspection appeared to be so professional. The JES inspector was punctual and seemed thorough in his inspection and his explanation of the work that needed to be done and the reasons behind it. My advice to anyone who is concerned about their foundation: Call a structural engineer first; they are the best qualified to diagnose a foundation problem and they are not trying to sell you any repairs. It's well worth the $200 - $300 cost for their inspection and report.

Absolutely horrible experienced. Not only did we not capture any of the advertised benefits of an encapsulation, we have been adversely impacted in the form of increased electric bill since installation and interior home humidity levels +60%. An independent HV/AC representative indicated that dehumidifiers cost as much to runas the proported savings! Additionally, our dual-HV/AC systems have been inspected and are running fine. We did not have any trouble prior to the encapsulation.
