Description of Work: I described my project and sent faxed pictures of what I needed. My Sykes had asked for the faxed information and then he never responded while I waited for months. Not very professional.

+ -1 moreWe have lived all over the East Coast, owned close to 20 homes, built a number of them and obviously have tried to maintain all of them. When we move to Virginia Beach, we conducted many, many interviews with prospective builders, and checked out everyone's references. It took us awhile to make a decision because of our process. We are just so thankful we did so, and that we met Jimmey. Simply, Jimmey is the absolute best that we have ever encountered. If he tells you something, take it to the bank. He will remember things to follow-up on that you have long forgotten. His sub-contractors are almost always all the best we have ever seen, and when we don't need his over-sight, we call them directly without hesitation. His standing with his subs, most of whom have been with him for 20+ years, result in unbelievable service even when he isn't involved. Our experience with him has created an atmosphere of absolute trust- we don't even ask for an estimate any more! (Understand you will have to build up the same trust to get to this point.)
Description of Work: This is just the latest project that Jimmey has done for us- it was a detached garage with a 24'x20' room over the lower level, with 1 1/2 baths, and a walkout deck on two sides unstairs. He also has completely remodeled our kitchen down to the studs, remodeled our master bath and bedroom down to the studs. built a 30'x30' two story family room addition to our home that noone can tell where it starts and stops, and three new decks, including roofs over two of them. He has also done uncountable smaller projects for us including replacing every window in the house, replacing all but 1 door in the entire house, weather-proofing the entire house, painting most of the interior, replacing 100% of the wooden exterior of the house, and responded almost immediately to the normal household emergencies. All of this has been completed since mid-2003.

+ 5 moreJimmey is a highly experienced contractor who has performed 80+ jobs in our neighborhood. He is also a very nice person who was sensitive to our needs. He works with several subcontractors who actually do the work and they have been working with him in some cases over 20 years. All of them did very good work from the foundation concrete (slab construction) to the framing, electrical and plumbing, the work was all first rate and timely. The entire job took approximately 14 weeks which was very near to his estimate. I would recommend J.W. Sykes to anyone who is remodeling, building new, or adding an addition to their home.
Description of Work: Sykes added an addition to our house where our mother who is ill will stay. It included pushing out our existing space 4 feet to make our family room bigger and adding a bedroom, bathroom and closet for our mother. We are expecting our mother to be in a wheelchair at some point so he designed the entire space to be wheelchair accessible including the bathroom. The design called for a long span steel beam to replace a load bearing wall to extend our family room.
