We have reviewed the matter, spoken with the technician, listened to the recorded phone conversations and reviewed all pictures taken while on site and through the service. Everything was in line with our standard of service. Mixing up the refrigerant type in conversation, was an unfortunate human error. Although that shouldn’t have happened, it would not have changed any future repair or replacement outcome. It would have been resolved if the pressure test was performed, so the exact location of the leak could have been found and proven. That repair estimate was based on the worst-case scenario as a rough estimate format, which is a very common practice in residential services. When this was brought to our attention, we took full responsibility, apologized and offered to waive the leak search needed to definitively prove the leak’s location. Further diagnosis was declined. When dealing with an ez seal or a “stop a leak” product that is not approved by the manufacturer, we prefer to offer an actual repair first. Leak stop is considered a 50-50 chance of working and is not a physical repair and would not have any sort of warranty. If the diagnosis had gone further, we would’ve been able to offer a real repair with a warranty. It is not surprising that a competitor would make adverse claims or negative remarks. It’s a predatory marketing tactic, and unfortunately a very common thing these days. However, we have a more classic home care approach. At Hats Off we expect a higher standard from our technicians.
