I was very impressed by the depth of knowledge and options Gildersleeve has. We moved into our home 2 years ago and know that the HVAC system is running out of life. We were up front with Gilderseleve that we did not plan to install a system for at least 9 months. We needed to have a plan and budget in place though. They came out, spent about an hour with me reviewing the system they recommended and the options that were available. When it is time to replace our system, we will be calling Gildersleeve.

AC died Friday evening - called Gildersleeve because we knew that it as most likely the pump and we had used them before. Called on Saturday am and knew we would have to pay the weekend rate (double the normal diagnostic fee $149), but it was 98 degrees out and we are a family of 4 and 2 dogs so we needed to get it done. They came out pretty quickly but the tech that came out was not happy about it...he obviously was on call and we were interrupting his weekend plans. He was even more unhappy when he saw where the pump was located and he would have to get dirty. We needed a new pump and he said the warehouse was closed but they would get to it first thing on Monday. He quoted us approx $850 for the pump and 3-4 hours of labor so an estimate of $1400-$1600. On Monday we received a call from the office to set up a time for the repair and the best they could do was possibly Tuesday or Friday. When I told her that the tech said we would be fixed on Monday she told me "you could of got it repaired on Saturday ". When I told her what the technician said about the warehouse she seemed surprised. Not sure if the tech was telling the truth about the warehouse being closed or he just not want to do the dirty job on Saturday. After making some phone calls to other well/pump companies we were able to get a very highly rated company to come out the same day and they charged us $700 INCLUDING labor. I guess I should thank Gildersleeve for being so unprofessional because it saved us a lot of money. Sent from my iPhone

Pumps replaced, system bled, and op check. Op check revealed problem with pump lockout switch. Guildersleeve was responsive to the problem, and sent out a technician promptly. They were upfront about a surcharge due to overtime service call (high demand). Since this is a closed loop geothermal system, and there were issues on both the loop and HVAC side, it took several visits to chase down the problems. We needed two different techs, one who was familiar with the closed ground loop (well) systems, and another who was conversant with the electronic controls of the HVAC unit. Unit has been operating well in the months since the repair. Overall, I'm pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Geothermal unit originally installed by Guildersleeve (approx 08/07) needed work on closed ground loop water system. System was airbound, water not circulating, causing compressors to switch off.

Called Gildersleeve to service my geothermal system. First of all they charge $105.00 just to diagnose the problem. Called b/c I had a leak on the pipe going to my return wells. They sent someone out to tell me that I had a leaking pipe and that he needs to send someone else out to work on return pipes. That was exactly what I called them for. I receive a qoute that the work would cost $150-250. Guy came out, did some work, then gave me a bill for $850. Very unprofessional to get billed a price over 300% higher than the qoute. And the problem was not resolved. Called the office to discuss and they were very rude and unhelpful. Will not ever use them again.

They were here after we called them within 20 minutes and did everything first rate.
Description of Work: We had no heat and the company we were dealing with told us we had to go another way. The company told us our wells were dry which wasn't the case. Then Gildersleeve came in and took care of the problem. They got heat back on the first day and came back the second day and did a great job. We signed a service contract with them.

I received quotes from three companies. Gildersleeve's quote was competitive, but the other 2 companies subcontracted the well drilling for the ground loop. Gildersleeve crews did the complete job. They came out early in October to install the wells so I could reseed my yard. Two weeks after they drilled six wells in my front yard, it was hard to tell that they had been there. The install crew then took over and were very conciderate of our needs and worked around our schedules. The install was very neat and efficient. The system installed by Gildersleeve (Climatemaster) included a mechanism that will heat my domestic hot water while I am running my air conditioner. The other companies wanted to charge extra to install that feature. It is included with the Climatemaster system. All said and done, the system is running great and we are very pleased

We initially contacted Gildersleeve for service on our water softener and reverse osmosis system in Dec/2013. We were assured they could service all of our equipment and paid for the yearly service agreement. We asked about changing the filters/servicing the reverse osmosis system and planned on that being done at the next visit. Our next visit was September 24, 2014 after more than 3 weeks of waiting for filters to be located. Two technicians came out and replaced the filters on the reverse osmosis system after a lengthy visit. When they finished, some of the fittings were leaking. Since they didn’t have any fittings with them, they said they would try Home Depot but if not, they would have to be ordered. On October 1, a tech arrived to change the fittings and complete servicing the remainder of our equipment. Upon completion, the system was still leaking around some of the fittings making it unusable. He proceeded to check the pressure in the two pump water pressure tanks and when we asked about the other 2 tanks (the conditioner and iron filter) we were told that their company did not service them. The tech did provide the name of GE Mobile Water who subsequently repaired our nonfunctioning reverse osmosis system and completed the service of our water softener system. They found the filters were incorrectly installed and had to replace them since they were damaged. We contacted Gildersleeve and received a full refund immediately. Jake and Emily apologized for our experience. I wish I could give them a better review but for this job they should have recognized that the reverse osmosis system was probably serviced by another company.

The technician who came out was very professional and very helpful. He tested the injector pump and agreed with my assessment. He called the office and asked permission to go pick up a replacement pump and said it could be installed within the hour. The office would not let him perform the work, it necessitated another call. I waited until Monday of the following week for a return call for an appointment and a price for the pump. When I called no one was able to tell me anything about the pump or when they would be able to return to install a replacement. Later on Monday Karen called and told me a replacement pump would be over $600. I balked at the price, the entire set up for the Rid O Rust Treatment System was $590 two years ago, that included installation, tanks, chemicals and miscelleaneous parts as well as the injector pump. While speaking to Karen, I went to the Uni-dose website and the same pump was available retail to me for $181. She called me back the next day and gave me a price of $300 for the pump and $120 for labor. I told her I felt I was being taken advantage of since the technician had wanted to perform the work during his original call, that I had proactively sent the information and that she and I had discussed the price of the pump the day before. I am still without a working system and will now go to one of the Angie's List preferred technicians. So far using Angie's List has been very helpful. Why wasn't I smart enough to handle this problem the same way.
Description of Work: My Uni-Dose chemical injector for the rust inhibitor tank on my well went out. I called Gildersleeve and told them what the problem was and sent a photo of the Uni-Dose unit. I was told the initial call would be $109. They are very 'busy' but I was able to get a first morning appointment for the next week. I was told if a second visit was needed the rate would be $120/hour.

We go back a long way, when we first moved here, they first put in a well for us and over the years they have come back when I call them for pump problems. They have come and fixed the pump and when I needed a new pump, they got it for me. They were very efficient, they came, they did their job, and they cleaned. They have a good reputation. I am very pleased with them and I would call them if I have any problems with my pump or for winterizing. The people they have sent over here were very good workers. They have impressed me, they just come out and do it automatically, and I don't have to call them and I like that. I signed a contract with them for $329, that includes fixing the pump, winterizing and de-winterizing the system, and it is a very reasonable price. So the price was good and the service was excellent and they were both fine young men that came to the house, and I would recommend them. They deserve whatever they charge and it is a good service so I don't mind paying. They showed up right on time and were clean and I just enjoyed talking to them, which is what I like.

I think the prices were just about right. It was a geothermal heating system and that would be a little more above then just an ordinary heat pump. I was satisfied with their work. They had an edition full higher second 2006. They installed the heating and air condition at that time. It was geothermal and it was expensive. They also did the regular checkups. It was under warranty. I was satisfied with them and they did a good job. It had been fine. In a year I could pre-pay the cost of the tune up visits; I get two a year, one fall and one spring. That was kind of nice because it locks in place the tune ups so I kind of like that. They have done a good job.

Entire project was successfully executed and I believe overall performance is stated above.
Description of Work: Gildersleeve and company replaced a dual zone heat punp system with a dual zone geothermal HVAC system. Work was performed in an expeditions and professional manner. Since the system is dual-zone, they ensured that at least 1/2 the system was working at all times after they disconnected my previous system. The company did their utmost to ensure that we had heat and A/C at all times during de-install of the old system with the new system. My home is a tri-level and the lot is fairly small, presenting Gildersleeve with some unique challenges, durint installation, which they were well prepared for and handled them with ease (at least it appeared that way to me) which is the manner in which I expect work to be done. Not only were they technically qualified, demonstrating strong geothermal HVAC experience, they also made everything look nice upon completion of the project. All personnel were courteous, wanting to provide the best product possible. Gildersleeve and company did an outstanding job and I, unhesitatingly, recommend them to anyone for geothermal HVAC work.

I want to document the poor customer service and excessive charges I experienced with Gildersleeve Plumbing. I have a friend staying as a care taker in my house in Chesapeake while I am in California taking care of my late mother’s estate. The pump lost prime while my friend was out of town over the weekend of July 25th and it appeared the pump may have burned up so there was no water upon her return. My friend called Gildersleeve Plumbing to ask them to look at the pump. She told the technician, Corey, that she would need my approval before authorizing any work as I own the home. The first I heard about what was the problem was when I spoke with Corey by phone. He was at my Chesapeake house and he said he had already replaced the pump and tank. He did this without my authorization. He said the bill would be over a $1000.00 but he would have to write up the bill and call me with the final amount. He told my friend he also thought I needed to have a new well dug and that could run $8000.00 - $10,000.00. Although I was concerned about the work and the bill (almost $1,200.00) when he called back I gave him my credit card for payment. I followed up with the company to advise Karen that I owned the house and had not authorized the before Corey did it. Karen acknowledged that the work should not have been done without owner authorization. Less than an hour later, I received a call from my friend that the new pump had stopped working and that when she contacted Gildersleeve Corey said we needed a new well. He did not offer to return and check his work or consider any other possibility. In the meantime I looked up my Angie’s List account and found that JT Plumbing had replaced the pump less than a year ago. I wanted to check with JT to see if the original pump might still be under warranty. Also I had been extremely happy with JT’s expertise; knowledge and reasonable price when he had done the other work (see my report written in August 2009). I called JT and he said he would go out and see what was wrong and get back to me. I advised him I would prefer he do the work as there was still no water. I called Gildersleeve back and told Karen of my dissatisfaction and that there was still no water and that I wanted the original plumber from last year to look at the bad pump and see if it was covered by any warranty. I told her I would pay for a service call as a Gildersleeve technician had come out. I reiterated that Corey had performed work before getting my authorization and the work was not satisfactory and Corey’s only response was to say I needed a new well. He did not appear to have any concern about restoring the water to my house. JT called me the next day. He removed the pump and tank installed by Gildersleeve Plumbing and had called their office to have someone pick up the pump and tank. JT then did the work replacing the pump and tank (the tank could not be repaired as it run for so long without water it had burned up). He found a leak in the line from the well to the pump which is what caused the pump to lose prime initially. The well was not bad. JT charged $300.00 less than the original amount charged by Gildersleeve and that cost included the repair to the pipe in addition to the pump and tank replacement. I notified Gildersleeve that I had put a hold on the credit card payment to them pending a revised bill. Karen called back to say the revised bill was $300 for two hours labor and a an $89.00 diagnostic charge even though they essentially performed unauthorized work that did not fix the problem, did not follow up and advised me incorrectly that my well was bad. Also, as an FYI, I contacted a neighbor on my street who happened to be having a new well dug. The cost for his very sophisticated top-of-the-line well (two lines and submersible pump) was a total of $1,800.00. To summarize, I paid $300.00 virtually nothing from Gildersleeve Plumbing. 1) The original work should not have been performed without my approval, 2) the original work was unsatisfactory as the pump and tank replacement failed, 3) the technician recommended a new well (not needed) instead of looking for a leak (cause of pump failure), and 4) the estimate for a new well was grossly exaggerated. I would not recommend Gildersleeve Plumbing to anyone. I think I was not treated fairly and overcharged based on the experience I had with this company. Where JT was genuinely concerned with getting water flowing again, the impression I got from Gildersleeve Plumbing was a company more interested in maximizing the costs and not concerned with ensuring the plumbing problem was fixed.
Description of Work: Pump stopped working while my friend who cares for my house was out of town. She called Gildersleeve to investigate the problem. Technician replaced the pump and tank without my (owner) authorization. Less than an hour after work finished, the new pump would not draw water. Technician said I needed a new well.

Gildersleeve Pump and Well put our original well in for us many years ago. I have been using this company for around 40 years. To maintenance our heating and cooling units, I wouldn't use any other company. I would highly recommend them.
