"The devil is in the details" when it comes to inspections and the reports. I've had many, many people tell us they'd pay $1000 for the value of our inspections and the money saved. But it's not about the money. It's about protection and peace off mind. Thanks for your positive review.

Dan is an exceptional professional in every respect. He is dedicated, thorough, knowledgable, a pleasure to work with, and the most competent home inspector I have interviewed or used. He spent 4 hours inspecting our 3300 SF home and I accompanied him the entire time. As a Professional Engineer with 30 years experience, I really appreciated the depth and breath of Dan's technical knowledge. I have had experience with 6 home inspectors in the Hampton Roads area since 1999 and Dan is the only one to earn my respect as a professional and a business man - he has earned my highest endorsement.
Description of Work: Dan inspected our 50 year old, 3300 SF home. As an additional service he provided a referral for a competent swimming pool inspector.

Wow! coming from a PE and one who stayed by me every step of the way, I consider this a great critique..of the way I critique a homes condition. I believe my education and background in electro-mechanical engineering and QA systems gives me an edge on competence and attention to detail and translates into a sound inspection process that protects my clients... and my company from liability. I am grateful that you recognize this because it's all I do, full time, heart and soul. This is not a "side income" as it is for so many in my industry. Thank you for the opportunity to do business and I wish you all the very best.

Dan met me at the home early and actually began poking around before I arrived. After I got there he proceeded to do an extremely thorough inspection finding things I never would have thought of. He took pictures of everything he found, explained to me in detail what he was finding and what he was looking for. He also answered all my questions, many of which had nothing to actually do with the inspection and were simply more handy questions I had. The agent tried to make me think he was just going to push work onto his family's window business when he pointed out he windows needed replacing but he was more than happy to help explain what would be required for me to install the windows myself. At no time did he solicit for business nor gave any suggestions of where to look for specific repairs. During the entire inspection he was professional and respectful of the homeowner, and agent. I would highly recommend his services to anyone who needs a home inspection.

Thank you for taking the time to add this amazing review of our service. It's s shame that an agent would resort to such unethical tactics to discredit a home inspector but I'm not surprised because that's the world some of those "old school" agents live in. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. That particular agent was representing both selling and buying parties...that's a big conflict of interest! I've discovered that the most incompetent and corrupt agents view the honest, independent and competent inspectors as a threat to their ability to nail down that commission check. Professional, caring agents want their buyers to be protected and happy and want for them a thorough inspection.. As far as the "family window business" that's ridiculous. I'm in the inspection business and my brother is a general contractor. The two worlds seldom meet because we are both quite busy and successful on the merits of our own individual and honorable business practices. Neither of us have to, or would resort to deception or trickery to gain business. Again, that agent is projecting her world onto us. I give you enormous credit for seeking out an independent inspector to protect your best interest. It proved to be a very wise move under the circumstances. I wish you all the very best.

I couldn't be happier with the detail of his inspection, his report and his extensive knowledge of the industry. He's a true professional.
Description of Work: Dan performed a detailed inspection on a house and detached 2 story barn that we're in the process of buying. He arrived a few minutes before our scheduled appointment and went over every inch of the buildings. He took tons of pictures and included them with notes and amplifying remarks in his summary and detailed reports. I was able to access his final reports the next day.

The home inspection experience was perfect overall. The appointment was at 9:00 am. Dan was there before us and already inspecting the crawl space under the house. The inspection lasted between 2 and 3 hours. Frankly we could not keep up with him as he disappeared into the various hidden corners of the house. We really felt like the house was inspected "head to toe". We received a beautifully produced report by e-mail the same evening. Thank you, Dan!
Description of Work: Dan Rogers did a wonderful job with our home inspection before our home purchase. He provided an extremely detailed and objective home inspection report the same day that he inspected the house. His inspection was extremely thorough and efficient. The inspection report was very will organized, web-oriented, cross-referenced and included pictures which made everything crystal-clear. After the inspection, we felt like we knew exactly what we were buying. He is also very personable and professional. He was extremely patient and direct in answering all our questions during and after the inspection. Dan is very experienced and knowledgable and was able to assess everything from the windows, roof, plumbing, electrical, foundation, appliances, crawl space etc., etc. The experience was actually fun and we could not be more satisfied.

Thank you for your review here on Angie's List. I think it's safe to say that many people challenged my inspection findings and tried to make it difficult for you. But working together we were successful in reducing your risk and getting the agents and seller to comply with reality. It starts with a good inspection but it requires a great buyer to use the inspection report to their benefit. I applaud you for having faith in my work and using it to your advantage.

We feel very good with his report.
Description of Work: After reading the reviews on Angie's list we decided to use this company. We spoke on the phone and he took down all of our info and we set up a time for the inspection. He was on time and took to the time to explain to us exactly what he was going to do. He went room by room and checked everything, he answered all of our questions. I was concerned because he was not writing anything down and wondered how detailed the report would be. He spent extra time going over some things that we had questions about. The next day we had our report in complete detail. It included pictures of work the homeowner had just had done in the craw space, sad to say the work had not been completed like the company had told the home owner. We were happy to know we didn't have to go into the craw space since we could see it on the pictures. We have bought three homes in the last 20 years and this is by far the best home inspection we have ever had. You can't go wrong using this company. He has called to follow up to see if we had any questions.

Thank you for taking the time to review here on Angie's List. I don't take many notes. After 23 years of full time inspecting, I see and remember things as pictures in my mind and I also take a lot of detailed photos too. The inspectors that you see "taking notes" during the inspection are actually filling out their cookie cutter checklist report so they don't have to do it later. I find that approach actually distracts from the physical inspection and may cause an inspector to miss something. When using the on site check list style report , There is also a natural tendency to make the house fit the check list but the report should fit the house. It's the tail wagging the dog thing. Can you imagine if a doctor was taking notes during an examination? They typically do their reports right after the examination, just like I do. The end result is a thorough inspection coupled with a detailed report. Two separate things but equally important and inseparable in attaining a quality inspection outcome. I know you have a lot of home buying experience and you also researched many inspectors, So I consider it an honor that you selected my company to represent you. Thank you for your trust and your great review.

Went great. Dan came out the next day and spent several hours on site going over every aspect of the house. He made numerous suggestions of what to address first, what was a small repair I could do now to prevent a big problem down the road and what could wait a while. It was extremely helpful. His inspection report came promptly and was very complete, including pictures of problem areas. The pictures have been useful in pointing out leaks, problems, etc to the various plumbers, electricians, etc I have had to the house to address the problems.

Thank you for your review here on Angie's List. It's a smart thing you did by getting a home maintenance inspection. More and more homeowners are doing this because they want truthful and pure information about the condition of their homes systems. Unfortunately many contractors that give "free estimates" have a tendency to find something wrong because they are there to sell a product or service whether you need it or not. A home inspection cost several hundred dollars whereas an unnecessary system repair can cost several thousand dollars. I've seen many people sold a bill of goods that they did not need. A good unbiased home inspection will reveal the truth, good or bad because that's our only purpose to examine and report conditions. Thereby affording a homeowner the opportunity to make sound repair decisions. The home inspection industry has fostered a lot of needed repairs in society but what's more than that, a preemptive home inspection can avert a lot of unneeded repairs as well. I applaud your proactive thinking and I thank you for entrusting our company to perform your inspection. As you move forward with your home maintenance, please remember we are always here for future counsel and advice as well and at no extra charge.

Thank you for your kind review here on Angie's List. I think there's a typo because your inspection actually cost $329. Still money well spent because as a result of the inspection, the seller agreed to replace the roof and install a new heat pump system which would have cost you thousands of dollars that you should not have to absorb when paying market value for a home. Thank you for entrusting us with your business.

I found Dan on Angie's list and based on the rave reviews from previous customers decided that he seemed like a trustworthy home inspector. This is our first house, so we really wanted someone that would be extremely thorough and patient with us. He's a one-man team, but he still promptly returned my call (within 2-3 hours). We spoke at length about the house, what our concerns were, how he typically works, etc. The reviews on Angie's list left me without a doubt that I would prefer to use Final Analysis to inspect my possible future home, but actually speaking with him sealed the deal. He was very courteous and well-spoken. He was also very prompt with e-mail communication and dealt with a scheduling issue (an issue of ours, not his, we had to push back the inspection a day) very gracefully. Before the inspection he researched the house a bit - he gave us tax records and things show previous purchase prices of the house and pulled up photos on Google satellite to see if the structure of the house had changed recently (additions, etc.). As far as the actual inspection, he was very punctual. He was actually a bit early and was already looking at the outside of the house when I got there. He was happy to explain everything to my husband and I (what was done incorrectly, why it was bad, what may happen if it's not corrected, etc.) all throughout the inspection. He was happy to have my husband go up into the attic with him and down in the crawl space. He was extremely thorough and checked things I never would have even thought about. He didn't work off of a checklist - instead, he inspected methodically room by room. He took pictures of everything that was incorrect, explaining to us the entire way. At the end, he gave a us a brief report of the overall condition of the house and the more important (expensive) things that were wrong. Our inspection was in the afternoon and he had the detailed inspection report to us the same day. His reports go into great detail about what's wrong, including pictures, which will make it much easier when speaking with contractors about repairs. We haven't yet had any further questions about the property, but given his level of customer service I'm certain he would answer them thoroughly. Overall, I would highly recommend Final Analysis. We were very happy with his level of service and comfortable that he had our best interests at heart. I really like that he was blunt about the problems with the house. I'd much rather someone tell me straight than beat around the bush or say that it "might" be okay.
Description of Work: Dan performed a full home inspection on a home that had previously been purchased and flipped. We were primarily concerned that the person flipping the house had just made it pretty and not done much in regards to the structure/primary systems of the house.

Thank you for taking the time to add your wonderful review here on Angie's List. The "flipped" homes can be the most challenging because the flippers goal is to turn the house around quickly and maximize their profit. Unfortunately many flippers do this by "making it pretty" and cutting corners on the workmanship, materials and important system components. Things aren't always what they appear to be. That's why it's critical to have a thorough and technically competent inspector on your side. I think it's the best money spent during a home purchase because a good inspection will protect you directly and can save you thousands of dollars. I am grateful that you placed your trust and confidence in our business and even more thrilled that we where able to protect you from what could have been a real lemon.

The experience was hands down amazing! We are looking to put our house up for sell in the Spring/Fall. We live in an older home built in 1949 and were scared of what was going on under and above the house that we couldn't see. We wanted to be proactive with this inspection so that during the buy/sell procedure things will hopefully go smoothly. Dan arrived on time and went right to work. He looked and touched almost everything in this house! Within 24 hours later I had the report. The report was extremely detailed, easy to understand. The report included pictures of items that I personally could not see for myself and has been real beneficial to the contractors that I have had bid on the work. Some of the contractors are amazed at the detail of the report, have asked for his information which I have passed along. I will definatly use Final Analysis during the purchase of my new home!

My experience is somewhat unusual in that First Analysis (Dan Rogers) was the second home inspector that I used to inspect a single property. I was not pleased with the first inspector. I could not be more pleased with Dan. Because the home had several water stains on the ceiling and walls, I asked my real estate to recommend a home inspector with an infrared camera. However, the inspection was a complete home inspection and was not limited to the leak situation. That inpector did a reasonably good job in determining the source of the leaks and eliminating other possible sources. However, I was not comfortable with him overall, and I was not impressed with his report. Therefore, I had a second inspection done, this time by an inspector that I located after doing my own research. That inspector was Dan. I called Dan on New Year's Eve day (a Saturday). He called me back within a couple of hours. When I explained the situation, Dan fit me into his schedule within a matter of days. Dan asked me when the home was built. When I told him 2006, he asked whether the other inspector had checked for Chinese drywall. It was not mentioned by the first inspector in person or in his report. That may have been because, as it turns out, there was no Chinese drywall. However, I was impressed that Dan had immediately alerted me to the issue. Dan was punctual and began his inspection right on time. He was quite thorough, finding several issues that the first inspector had missed - a leak in the cold water hose to the hot water heater, a disconnected vent from the gas fireplace, and a non-circulating microwave/hood that was not properly vented. The biggest issue found by Dan (and missed by the first inspector) was that the one unit - three zone AC system had been effectively converted to a one zone system. Two of the actuators designed to control the dampers were burned out and had been disconnected. A third was simply missing. Also part of the duct work necessary for the unit to operate as a three zone system had been removed. This was important because the home had three levels each with a separate theromostat. As it turns out, two were non-functioning. The two estimates for repair were $2,500 and $1,500. Dan's inspection report was quite detailed and included many photos. He included photos of the model and serial numbers of the hot water heater and the HVAC units for future reference - a nice touch. It was a thousand times better than the first inspector's "check off" report which had no photos and handwritten remarks. If I had not been present during the first inspection, I would have had great trouble reading and understanding the first inspector's report. Dan's report was so easy to read and understand that being present (while certainly recommended) is optional. The seller fixed the small things found by Dan and missed by the first inspector which paid for the cost of the second report. However, she declined to make the HVAC repair. Nevertheless, I elected to move forward knowing that, as a result of Dan's excellent inspection, I am unlikely to face any unexpected surprises after the sale. I do not regret having spent the additional money for Dan's inspection. I only wish that Dan could have received the payment for both inspections. He certainly earned it!
Description of Work: Final Analysis (Dan Rogers) performed a complete home inspection - roofing, interior and exterior. structural components, all systems (electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, venting), and insulation. The inspection was quite thorough and the report was very detailed with many photos.

Wow! what an amazing report. Just yesterday I was berated by an agent in front of the clients because I did not provide an instant checklist report. I simply told her that the report must equal the quality of the inspection if her clients were to be protected. The clients called me after I left the inspection and told me how pleased they where with how I handled that situation and that they where surprised at their agents behavior. Sure, we could save several man-hours but the inspection, report and client would suffer. We just won't do it and I'm grateful that you see the wisdom in this. Can you imagine a doctor writing their report during an operation? Something would get missed. Thank you for the compliment about me getting paid for both reports. I always think the value and savings of a great inspection far exceeds the cost. Thank you very much for taking your valuable time to review my services in such detail and most of all, thank you for entrusting us with your business. I am grateful.

When we arrived four minutes late Dan had already begun inspecting the outside of the home. He greeted us professionally and immediately began to explain his findings. As the buyers, we trusted that the power and water would be on as promised & confirmed by the agent, but the power wasn't. Dan began the inspection anyway and completed what he could very meticulously. Midway through the inspection we got power, but Dan never missed a beat! I felt as if I was on an episode of "Holmes on Homes"! Within minutes of our "education", we realized that we were in good hands with a very knowledgeable professional who took great pride in his work. That evening he followed up with a phone call to thank us and answer any additional questions. Awesome customer service!!!!

The report was easy to read/understand and played a major part in helping us to make an informed decision about the biggest investment of our life to date. We can now go forward in negotiations with the confidence and information we had hoped for. I can't rave enough about how pleased we are....Thanks Dan!! Overall I felt the inspection went well. Dan Rogers was courteous and professional. He came to the door gave me his business card, identified hiimself and asked for a brief tour of the house. He then went outside checked out roof and shingles. Inside he went up in the attic to inspect water heater, wiring, plumbing and heating system. Inside windows, doors and walls were checked. Mr Rogers goes the extra mile, he helped me reverse my ceiling fans and replace air filters I couldn't do by myself. At the end of his visit he explained home issues to me and how to get things taken care of. I would definitely recommend Final Analysis to anyone looking for a professional home inspection.
Description of Work: I was impressed with the professional and thorough manner that this inspection was done. Dan Rogers of Final Analysis pays attention to detail. I don't have any do's or dont's to add to my list. After meeting Mr Rogers I felt I could leave this inspection in his hands he knew what had to be done. Both the outside and inside of my home were checked out from the attic to the garage, plumbing, HVAC, fireplace, flooring ,outside shingles and roof.

Thank you your kind and thoughtful review. I am grateful that you entrusted me with your business and consider your feedback to be a valuable tool in continuing to provide exceptional service to our customers. I am most grateful that you are satisfied with the inspection. That's what really makes my day! Sorry about the tardiness. I've had a serious conversation with my GPS after we left your house because she has difficulty finding new construction. I must have circled your sub-division 3 times before I decided not to listen to my GPS and actually use my brain. Thanks again for your business and for taking the time to review our services here on Angie's List. Please know that even though the work is complete, I continue to be available to help you...even if it's just a call to check on those ceiling fans! :)

Great service performed. Dan provided me with a very detailed report that was sectionalized and very easy for everyone to interpret. Highly recommend this provider.
Description of Work: Dan performed a home inspection for me at a property I'm in the process of purchasing. He was very punctual and professional. This is my fourth home purchase and the inspection provided by "Final Analysis" was by far the best and most thorough inspection I have ever had conducted. The inspection cost me $390.00 and it was money well spent. I would very highly recommend this vendor for providing home inspection services.

Overall the experience was great. Dan's home inspection showed me that there are still people who really love what they do and care about the people they are doing it for. It's sad to say but it's rare thing in this age.
Description of Work: Very professional, on time, with an expert amount of knowledge. I felt like we had a thorough inspection by a guy that's not just in it for the money. Dan went above and beyond what was expected. He started researching the property from the very first point of contact. On the day of the inspection he arrived promptly and went to work. He described everything he was doing and why he was doing it in terms we could understand. He went over all areas of the house. After the inspection he followed up the next day with a phone call that went beyond the call of duty. I won't get into the specifics about what the phone call was about, but it helped us make a better informed decision. Overall the experience was great. Dan's home inspection showed me that there are still people who really love what they do and care about the people they are doing it for. It's sad to say but its rare thing in this age.

Thank you you very much for taking the time to add this feedback of my services. It is very important to me that an inspector should be competent, thorough and courteous and it makes me happy that you recognized that. I could never take someones money until I've delivered the best service possible...and that is to limit a buyers risk as much as possible when they are making such a massive purchase. If its done right, this is no small task but so worth it in the long run, for my company and my clients. Thank you for your trust and your feedback. Dan Rogers

Dan doesn't have many reviews on Angie's List yet but when I saw the sample reports on his website, I decided to give him a call. I'm so glad I did. Front to back, it was an exceptional experience. He crawled all over my house with a fine tooth comb, finding and documenting all kinds of stuff. He absolutely took his time over the course of the entire inspection. I followed him around everywhere except the crawlspace. The inspection took a really long time but none of the time was wasted. I got the report back quickly and it looked just like the ones on his website, incredibly detailed. My agent said the sellers balked at his report and were worried about what we were going to ask for. We ended up talking them into putting money into escrow so we could have the furnace replaced. We got to pick the company to provide the quote and gave it to the sellers and they accepted. Your experience may vary but with a report like Dan's it really helps your chances. At the time of the inspection, Dan also mentioned that I could call any time with followup questions, which I have a couple of times. I also plan to ask him for a recommendation for a plumbing contractor. During the inspection, I had an electrician out as well to quote the cost of repairs of some of the electrical work the home owners did themselves. I wanted the price so I could bring that to the negotiating table as well. Turns out Dan caught more than the electrician did but the price was still good to have. The two spoke briefly and Dan mentioned how he has a few contacts for different kinds of work that he knows and trusts and that he hadn't yet come across an electrician he liked. When I have contractors come out in the future to work for me, I'll definitely have him out to inspect it after it's done. Nothing worse that being ripped off, that's why we're all here. He's worked hard for my trust and earned it.
Description of Work: Dan performed a home inspection for a home we eventually bought. I was on time and he got there before I did. My agent had let him in and he was already doing his thing. I followed him around for almost the whole inspection, which took about 4 hours. He explained everything he saw to me and took pictures to document it. He indicated which things were critical, which were important to keep an eye on, and things we should note that were just for our information. When he looked up inside one of the two furnaces in the house, he noticed that the walls were rusting through and identified it as a safety threat. After purchasing the house and having the furnace replaced (which the sellers paid for thanks to Dan's extensive report), they also confirmed how dangerous it was. He stands by his work and I'll definitely use him again if I decide to move again, which hopefully won't be soon!

Thank you for this concise and detailed review. Very "spot on" and detail accurate. I'm thrilled to receive such positive feedback, especially from a discerning consumer who "does their homework". I consider it the greatest compliment that you entrusted our company to do your inspection and am most grateful that your are pleased with the outcome. Nothing is more important to me than providing a thorough, technically competent inspection and protecting the home buyers best interest. That's really what we are here for. I thank you for recognizing that and taking your valuable time to provide this review.

Thanks to watching "Holmes on Homes" on HGTV I decided to join Angie's List and find a qualified home inspector. We were so thankful we found Dan Rogers of Final Analysis Home Inspection Service. He saved us TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars. He went through the home with a fine tooth comb and informed us along the way of each defect and faulty construction. I couldn't believe I was so blinded when viewing the home. The report was available online within 24 hours with pictures and captions showing the problem areas. His online reports are fabulous as he uses technology as a tool to inform and document his findings. He acted as a true professional. Since we choose not to proceed with the purchase after his findings, we will be calling him a second time to do the next inspection. I highly recommend Final Analysis.
Description of Work: Home Inspection was performed as part of home purchase contract. We were the buyers and contracted the services directly.

It went really well. This is the 2nd time I used Final Anaylst. He works around your schedule as much as possible. He is very detailed and looks at everything. Will answer any questions you have and tell you whats wrong with the house and try and tell you how to fix things and give you any help you need. During his inspections he takes pictures of things and explains them in his report. His report is very detailed and helps you out alot. I sent the report to my family so they could see what's wrong with the houses i was looking at and they liked his reports alot and couldn't bellieve the details and pictures they saw on his report. They actually told me to use him again on any inspections. I was already plaining on useing him agian. I will use him again if i decide to move again.

The inspection was very organized, detailed, and understandable from a laymen's point of view.We first started with the outside.Mr. Rogers pointed out that the skylights were made of glass and don't have the oxidizing issues you'd find with your typical polycarbonate materials. He also noticed the shingles on the front side facing the curb were replaced but the orginal shingles were still on the back and the sides of the house(he mentioned the material they were made of and how much life was left in them.) He took numerous pictures and explained why.I could go on and on,but I have made my point.
Description of Work: Mr. Dan Rogers did a COMPLETE home inspection of both the interior and exterior of the house I am purchasing. Everything and anything that concerned the condition and safety of the building was thoroughly checked out.You name it - electrical, structural, plumbing, and cosmetic issues were addressed. He made a detailed report of everything he inspected i.e.(he pointed the old polybutelyne pipe connections, the faulty gfc for the hot tube, etc.) His report is very detailed( I wouldn't have room to fit it all,but you get the picture.)
