Description of Work: Installed a new roof on house and outdoor shed. Keith their head salesman, who happens to be a USN Retired Command Master Chief, came out to the house and provided a no non-sense price for the job. There was no high pressure sales, just facts. The installation team was on time, extremely neat, and professional throughout the entire job. I would Highly recommend if you need or are thinking of a new roof to use this company. The warranty can not be beat and their service is unbeatable.

+ 1 moreI initially didn't even contact Custom Home Improvements. Representatives were walking around the neighborhood inquiring about any home improvement services they could provide. I'm in the process of making renovations to a rental property of mine, so any quotes that they could provide would have been helpful. The representative who took down my information was very nice and polite. She was able to set up a consultation that same day to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to replace my existing fence and railing. The representative who actually provided the estimate came on time and he discussed what they could do in regards to replacing the fence, roof repairs, etc. Then we discussed the estimate that he came up with, which was over $15000 to replace the fence. Granted, I have a lot of fence and it was in need of repair, but that was a high figure. I also explained to the representative that fixing the fence was low priority for me since I had other repairs within the interior of the house that I needed to take care of first. From there, it felt like the representative turned into a car salesman. I felt somewhat pressured in the fact that I had told him that fence was a low priority, yet he was asking me what number in my budget I had in mind. I explained to him again that the fence was low priority and also any expenses that I made towards the house would be split between myself and my mom. He then asks if I would like, he could wait in his car while my mom and I discuss the job. I was not going to commit to anything right then and there. Especially with something that big of an expense, I would need to do additional research and take my time before I commit to something that big. To top everything off, after I told the representative that I share the expenses of any repairs with my mom, he then asks me if she understands English well. We're Asians, but what does that have to do with anything and what does my mom's ability to understand English have to do with this job? I found that comment totally unnecessary and downright offensive. So overall, I'm sure this company provides great handiwork, but their representatives need to work on their professionalism.

+ 0 moreWe had Custom Home Improvements install new gutters and down pipes and siding on our home and the first thing that come to mind is, THIS COMPANY IS THE BEST. They came out and gave us a quote and explained everything in great detail from the products they were going to use to how the project was going to be installed. My husband had many questions and they answered all of them and we both felt very confident in going with this company for our gutters and siding. After we did all the paperwork the finance guy called about two days later to tell us we were approved for our gutters and siding and that are material was ordered and when it comes in they would call us. Then about a week later the production manager called just with an update that our material was expected in within the next few days and they would call back soon with a install date. After about four days he did call back, as he said he would and set up an install date with me. When the crew came out to install our new siding they walked around the house with my husband and I and explained everything that they were going to do. They answered our questions with the issues we had with some rotting wood and they told us how they were going to fix it and prevent it from ever happening again. This really impressed my husband. The crew did a GREAT JOB with the siding, they were there every day on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. It took about four days to do the siding and when they were done they cleaned up the yard as if they were never there. Then after they finished the siding, the gutter crew came out and installed the new gutters. They also walked around and looked at not only the house but the yard so they can make sure we had no standing water around the house from where the water comes out the down pipes. The gutters look great. I love now when I walk out my front door when its raining I don't have to walk threw a water fall of water coming off the roof. Throughout the whole job the company kept us informed of everything. They were very polite and treated or home as if it was theirs. We would use this company in the future and we would tell everyone that is the best company we have ever dealt with (and my husband is a hard one to please). Thank you Custom Home Improvements!!!!!!!!!

We investigated many company in the Hampton roads area and we clearly made the right choice in our decision to move forward with our project. The salesmen was professional, knowledgable, answered all of our questions without be pushy in his presentation. Installation of the products were second to none and their cleanup around our home was very important because we have two small children and we were worried about nails and small pieces of metal left behind. The crew chief walked with us during the job and after the job was complete to make sure we were completely satisfied. I wanted to express our complete satisfaction with our decision and will and have recommended them to my family and friends.

+ -1 moreThe subcontractor that replaced the garage door did a wonderful job. The crew that removed the gutters left a few large pieces of gutter material in my yard/flower bed. The gutter crew installed the gutters OK but left low handing wires on the back of my house that prevented me from using my back door. I had to ask them to correct this problem... They initially told me that the company would have to t send out the crew that removed the old gutters to fix the problem. At my insistence ,one of the two member crew assisted me in throwing the wires up on the roof as a temporary fix so that I could go out my back door into the yard. The company sent out the gutter removal grew to secure the wiring. They used a few zip ties to permanently secure the wires on the roof. I was really perturbed that the gutter installation did not correct this small matter as a part of delivering a quality product.; and that I had to ask them to do something about low hanging wires. The Custom Home Improvement crew showed a great lack of professionalism. They did not take pride in the appearance of the finished product and their attitude was "It's not my job". Not a good representation of the company! The pricing was high -- I found out after the three days to cancel, that the pricing I was quoted was much higher that another A rated local contractors that is also listed on Angie's list. Also, The company was paid in full on July 18th, but my warranty was mailed out to me on August 20th. I believe that I should have received the warranty on the date that the contract was fulfilled.
Description of Work: Replaced gutters and damaged wood and installed gutter guards. Replacement single car garage door.

Roof is beautiful and the trim work just excellent -- far exceeded my expectations. Everything was cleaned up so that you couldn't tell they had even been there except for the wonderful job they did. I, frankly, had no idea what to expect when I signed the contract for them to do the work, was hoping for the best possible outcome, and boy did they deliver. I am a very happy customer. No complaints whatsoever, only praise for Custom Homes. This is a wonderful company with extremely capable and professional employees.

Description of Work: When we purchased our home, we knew within a couple of years that we needed to replace our roof. Well, with a few windstorms and many missing shingles, we had to revise our timeframe. Custom Home Improvements provided an estimate for roof replacement, trim/soffits & gutters. We probably could have gotten the work done for less but we would have sacrificed everything else important: QUALITY WORK & GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! The work is not contracted, so the company has full control of the work and workers. The roofing team came first, arriving at 7:30am and finished our 2600 sqft ranch home in one day! It was like a well-oiled machine. They removed the old roof, replaced the rotten wood, installed the new roof and cleaned up in ONE DAY. The trim/soffits were installed by another team and the gutters another. All of the teams were prompt, courteous, professional and left our home & yard the way they found it, CLEAN. If we had the money, they would have installed our windows, too. The window project is on hold but when we are ready, Custom Home Improvements will do that job as well!!

+ -1 moreWONDERFUL!! I could not have asked for a better company to come out and do work on our roof. From day one they were upfront about the cost and about how the whole event would happen. We had damages to our roof from a wind storm and we were working with our insurance company and that was a battle and one of the owners fought with us to get more money for what we needed to be done. It was not a complete win on our side with the insurance company and we had to come out of pocket for some of the expenses but it was well worth it. The staff came out to start working on the removal early in the morning and did not seem like they took a break working until 7pm! We have a larger home and to see that they had almost completely finished the roof within one day was great! We were so excited to see what it was going to look like. The next day they finished the work and cleaned up the yard just like the owner and sales manager said that they would. We have two dogs so the nails were our biggest concern and I still have not found one to date. Great company I would recommend them to anyone!

+ -1 more, Good. quick, painless for us except that we had to drive our payment all the way out to the Beach, that was just inconvienent more than anything.
Description of Work: We had gutters installed on the front and back of our home. They are seamless but not the leafless gutters. The guys showed up when they said they would. Nice guys that did the work, quick. I was amazed at how little time it took to install the gutters. Professional, never had to come inside (for restrooms). They did dump a bunch of screws in the street in front of our house. They tilted their trailer up and I am sure the screws just fell out when they did that. We found about 50 out there over the next week. And it did cost us a new tire but our neighbor's were spared. I gave a C for responsivessness because when they came to explain all the services and "talk up" the company the guy said that after service was complete that someone would contact us to make sure we were happy with the work and to put a sign in our front yard advertising the service and that this person would collect the payment. That person never showed up. And a week later we got a call from them that we needed to pay, we were past due blah, blah, blah. Not a huge deal but just weird. I would also add that one section of the guttering appears to have not been installed correctly. We have had several very heavy rains recently and one corner of it overflows everytime. the husband thinks it wasn't installed with enough of an angle on it.

+ 0 moreThe job was okay at best. Our biggest problem was that we were quoted one price by the person who did the estimate but we were told another price when we called to schedule the job. We were quoted $300 but they wanted to charge $500. It took several days of phone calls back and forth before they would agree to the original estimated price. We will not use them again.
Description of Work: We hired this company to fix some loose trim and to wrap two exterior doors with aluminum trim.

+ 1 moreA couple of weeks turned into a month and I was starting to get impatient due to me having to go on a military deployment. I didn?t want to stick my wife with having to make sure the insulation was up to my standards. I expressed my concerns to Tim, and he assured me that his installers were very professional and I had nothing to worry about. I went on deployment in late November and left everything in my wife?s hands. The crew came out in early December to remove the old siding and install the new stuff. It took them two days to remove the old siding. They found some damage around my kitchen bay windows, rotten wood in various spots of my home, and some bad electrical wiring by one of the windows. The project supervisor emailed me and even sent pictures of everything they found wrong. They replaced the rotten wood for free, changed out the windows for a fair price, and had someone fix my electrical problems. Once that was completed they wrapped my house in barrier paper that exceed code and did a great job installing the siding. The entire job took over a week to completed, but I am very satisfied with the quality of the work performed, and service that we received. They kept my wife and I informed on everything they did to fix the problems they found and even sent me pictures. My wife even said she felt very comfortable talking to and working with the project supervisor while I was gone. Now the ground floor of my home is warm in the winter, and I am pretty sure it was stay cool in the summer. Tim and his crew did an awesome job and I will definitely use them again for any other home improvements. The price I submitted is for the siding, windows, and the electrical work. One of the three places that gave me a quote for siding was higher than all three of these jobs put together. I strongly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I have been shopping around for about a year for new siding for my two story house due to the color fading, not being well insulted, and my wife damaging it with the lawn mower and weed eater. It seemed like not matter what I set the thermostat to; the ground floor of my home was either too hot in the summer or freezing in the winter. One of the owners (Tim) came out to give me a free estimate for insulated siding and new gutters. I decided to go with insulated siding to help reduce my electric and gas bill. Plus I wanted something to help keep the ground floor of my house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. My wife and I sat through his hour and half long presentation just like we did for three other siding companies (which I will not name). He showed me examples of the different types of siding he had available and really pushed the Mastic Elite siding. At the end of his presentation, I was thinking to myself here we go again with the pushy salesmanship to get me to sign a contract today. I told him before he even starts that I wasn’t looking to play his little game and just give me the best price possible and I wanted more than 20 minutes to think about it. To my surprise he did that and even gave me a military discount which was good for 30 days. He explained to me that he use to work for another company in the local area (before he started his own business) and hated when they did that. I distinctly remember him saying that he doesn’t like to hit homeruns on sales every time, but is happier with base hits and one or two grand slams. I don’t know if I was a fool or if he was that good of a salesman, but I signed a contract with him that day. He also told me that they offer financing and I didn’t have to pay a dime until I was completely satisfied with his work. Everyone else wanted 10% upfront. About a week later he called to tell me that Mastic doesn’t make the color (sand pebble) anymore and I had to choose a different color. I told him I wanted time to think about it and I will get back with him in a few days. In the back of my mind, I was thinking about just canceling the order, and finding someone who could get me the color I wanted. Two days later he called to tell me that he worked out a deal with Mastic and I will be able to get the color I wanted but it would take a couple of weeks to order, which I didn’t have a problem with. At this point, I was impressed with his level of service and happy that I was going to get the color I wanted.
