 + -1 moreThey are probably the best people I have ever used. They're just excellent. It took two days. They're the only one in this area that will pull the permits, get your zoning, and have an architectural engineered stamp. They only one, that is why I went with them. No complaints at all with these people. They are probably the best sub contractors I have ever hired, ever, to do a job for me.

 + -1 morePlanning and ordering went smoothly. Tammy was very knowledgeable about easements present on my property and how to confer with at the City. Once everything was in place, I was able to customize the shingles and even match the vinyl siding in color and design to the vinyl of the house. I was even given an upgrade in installing a metal threshold due to my wife being a veteran. The only mishap occurred when setting a date for delivery approached. I received a voicemail to set up an appointment and returned the message but had to leave a message in turn. A date was never scheduled, but a week and a half later, the delivery person called me to tell me he was on the way. I wasn't available that day, and he was flexible enough to adjust his schedule to arrive the following day. Everything worked out in the end.

Description of Work: Colonial Sheds and Barns built a beautiful twelve by twenty foot shed in my yard in one day. It was built using top quality materials and is extremely well built and sturdy. I elected to go with vinyl siding and architectural shingles so it would match my house. I also had them install two windows with shutters, and a single door on the front, and a double door on one end. The workers were a very competent crew of four who worked non-stop until the job was finished. They also completely cleaned up the job site when they were done. I am very pleased with the shed that they built and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who is interested in getting a shed built.

 + -1 moreProvided pictures and description for moving the shed, but no one came out to survey the job site until the day of the job. I told Colonial there was a slope in the yard (was identified in the pictures I sent) and sections were soggy from recent rains. I requested no vehicles be used for the move. Workers showed up with no idea of the scope of the project. I ended up letting them use their truck to move the shed, the end result was deep tire ruts in the yard, dead grass from the truck tires, a joist almost knocked out, the door dented and banged up from using the high lift jack and not enough blocks to level the shed on the corners - a block was set under the shed in the middle but it did not provide any support and to make up for concrete blocks they tried to level the shed using pieces of 2 x 4's. I had to straighten the joist, add blocks to level and reinforce the bottom plate with a 2 x 6. The crew was professional and worked hard - but again was not prepared for the job at hand - overall it was not a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Move a 12' x 12' shed from one side of the yard to the other side.

Description of Work: Erect 8x12 foot storage shed on site. Colonial Barns was professional in presages, sales contact, and fulfillment. I changed my order from a shop assembled shed to a site-assembled shed. They were able to accommodate this change and honored the slow season discount extended for the original shop assembled sale. | |The shed is well made and conforms to Virginia and Norfolk building and zoning codes. This size is type approved and subject to set back constraints but no building permit or zoning permit were required. | |Colonial Barns uses pre-primed trim but does not back prime ripped trim or seal end grain when a shed kit is being cut in the shop. The field assemblers did not caulk the window and door trim during assembly leaving these tasks for the owner. The owner will need to do this work after installation. Not a big deal for those owners knowing how to paint new work but a potential source of trouble for inexperienced owners. Colonial should include a "Painting your new shed" handout to guide clients to proper painting of their shed.

I have used this shed for about 6 months and am completly satisfied with its performance. Colonial was able to match the color of the siding on hte shed with the color of the house trim. Excellent job!!

This team was highly motivated and in tune of what they had to build. they arrived at 9:30 as promised they all introduced themselves to me, asked me where I wanted the shed build and imediatelly the lead explained boundary lines codes to me, informed me of approximately how long it would take them to build the shed and off they went to work. This team was very organized they use every minute wisely. Once they finished the job the lead walked with me to ensure that I was satisfied with the job. I highly recomment this company if you want to build a quality storage shed. Also treat yourself and ask for this team by name.  + -1 moreSince this is not something that one does often, we looked at various options in the area before proceeding with Colonial. We looked at two other local builders and also went to Lowe's and Home Depot. Colonial seemed to have the right combination of quality, style, cost, and service that fit with our needs. They were slightly more expensive overall, but installation looked like it would be an easier process with Colonial since they build a lot of it on site - and the shed would be in the back of the backyard. And we tend to try to support the local businesses if we can. The quality of the shed matched our expectations. A few minor issues, but that's probably to be expected. Was a bit smaller than what we thought we needed (which we really couldn't assess until we could place items inside it - so really more an issue with us and not Colonial). And there were a few small scratches/nicks that I noticed in the shed. Given our experience, I would recommend them or try them first again if looking for another barn/shed.

 + -1 moreMy salesman, Frank Travis was very helpful in providing information on what was available and what my options were. Everything went well. Two young men arrived at my home at 8:30 am and were gone by 12:30, leaving me with an attractive and very well constructed shed. There were no surprises. Everything was delivered exactly as promised. The quality of work was excellent. I believe my shed is sturdier than the ones I saw at the big box hardware outlets.
