A comfort advisor showed up on Friday to look over my old AC unit and showed me the options of what they can install. I chose the Premier system and asked if it can be installed the next day (Saturday). He checked and informed me that Tuesday would be the earliest. I get a call later that evening to inform me that the AC unit will be installed the next day. A crew of technicians showed up the following day to install the AC unit. The 16 SEER unit that I wanted was not able to be installed because of space limitations in the bath/laundry room, but they installed a 15 SEER interior unit and a 16 SEER outside unit that is a two-stage compressor. It took several hours to install, as they were done by late evening. The comfort advisor showed up Saturday to sign paperwork from Dominion that would give me a $200 rebate for having a more energy efficient system installed.

The salesman that came to our home was John McCoy. He was very professional and seemed to be a good face for the franchise at first. After we purchased our unit he made multiple visits to our home and each time seemed to get a little more involved with intense questioning about topics that have absolutely nothing to do with HVAC installation. It was extremely uncomfortable to have a salesman enter my home and ask me questions about how I feel about being a stepfather and showing my wife his multiple tattoos that he had hidden under his sleeves. The first day on the crew showed up three hours late for the installation. The quality of work was no better than their punctuality. They completely destroyed the entry point into my attic. Before they began their work I had no issues with the trim or the surrounding drywall, not the trim is falling and the drywall has several areas where it has been damaged. They did not clean up after themselves as they left insulation on the carpet that they tracked down from the attic. They intruded on my wife?s privacy as they invited themselves into our master bedroom as she was breast feeding our 5 month old son. Even after being asked to leave they continued to work and completely ignored her request for privacy. During the install One Hour managed to break a line within the walls of my home and instead of fixing that line, they simply replaced it with a new line that they ran through a section of gutter down spout that I now have to look at every day. They drilled a massive hole so that their new line could enter my attic and covered it with a dryer vent. They failed to close the hole which allowed several critters to enter my home in the following nights. Their solution to this issue was to stuff steel wool in the gaps around the line that they installed to keep the critters out. They also managed to destroy several sections of siding on the rear of my home that they have still not provided a matching replacement for (6 months later). They burnt a raised flower bed that was installed as a mother?s day present from my children to my wife. They killed several flowers within the garden and left trash in every area they were working. One Hour advertised that they will pay for inconvenience, punctuality, and satisfaction issues with their service. When I asked the manager about this I was told that they want to ensure that we are satisfied first and that we can talk about money later. It is now six months after the initial install and I am still not satisfied with their company. I would advise anyone that requires HVAC repair or upgrade to look into another company. One Hour Heating and Air will only disappoint you in the end.

Response from Classic Air's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning
Our business reputation is on the line with every visit we make to a clients home. We recognize this and strive to make every experience a positive one for the customer. With the advent of electronic media a customer can now call us to task, in the public domain. Fortunately this allows us to acknowledge a fault and explain ourselves with the hopes that our true intent comes through. In addition it allows us to demonstrate our willingness to rectify a situation once it is brought to our attention. We pride ourselves on delivering on time, can't lose service by clean safe and reliable professionals. We usually find that our Comfort Advisors establish rapport rather easily with clients and the same time demonstrate a sensitivity that puts clients at ease. If conversations stray it is usually result of a sincere interest and an intended mutual respect. Without that balance our Comfort Advisors would typically not have much success getting people involved with our company and the products we offer. In this instance the initial installation of the new equipment was not what you expected and your concerns were justifiable. When it was brought to our attention we scheduled a supervisor to address the concerns. The corrective work was scheduled and completed promptly with regards to the equipment. However, the attic trim and the vinyl siding were scheduled further out due to material acquisition. During this process you encountered a situation that required you to travel out of the area for a period of time. We failed to take the initiative and follow up and you had to contact us to schedule a time for the work to be completed. Once scheduled, it required two more days of inconvenience for you before the work was completed to your satisfaction. At that point we honored our client respect guarantee and issued you check for $500. I’m sure the money was appreciated but we recognize that it does little when it comes to regaining a customer’s confidence and respect. Admittedly we failed, we made the necessary repairs, honored our Guarantee, and most importantly we learned from it. If given another opportunity in the future we will do everything we can to earn back your confidence and trust.

Our tenant called us that the heat is not working when he switch to heat on the thermostat first time this fall. Since we are not local, we called one hour heating & air conditioning from google search. We made an appointment to diagnose the problem on the same day with 4-hour window. The service call was charged $49. Later we got a call from the company to tell us that there is an additional $155 charge to light the pilot light. I was confused at first then I talked to the technician Tim on the phone. I found out that the pilot light was off when he came. After he lit the light and tested our unit, the conclusion was there was nothing wrong. But he will turn off our unit, put out pilot light as original condition when he came and leave our tenant in cold unless we pay an additional $155 for "light the pilot" service.

Response from Classic Air's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning
Please allow me this opportunity to apologize All of us here at Classic Air’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning pride ourselves on delivering On Time…Can’t Lose service. It is obvious that in our attempt to service you we missed the mark. I apologize for our failure to deliver. We were contacted by the homeowner, who lives out of state, to service their rental property in our operating area of Newport News, VA. This is not an unusual situation but one that requires thorough communications with the responsible party, who is typically not on site. When the call was taken we shared with the Owner that we would do a Complete System Evaluation for $49.00 and if it was determined that any repairs were required or if we had any recommendations we would contact him for authorization before we proceeded with any repairs. Upon arrival our technician found the system inoperable. Rather than contacting the homeowner when this initial problem was discovered he went ahead and made the necessary repair (without authorization) and proceeded with completing his evaluation. His complete system evaluation showed no further errors or problems with the equipment so the repair call was complete. He then contacted the Owner explained what he found, that a repair had been made and that there was an additional charge to make the repair. Once he realized that he had failed to get authorization to make the repair he should have collected only the $49 diagnostic, left the system operable (not charged for the part), checked out of the call, and left the Owner and Tenant with a completed service call. Instead he attempted to collect for the diagnostic as well as the unauthorized repair which created a regrettable situation. We have forwarded a check in the amount of $49.00 to reimburse the Owner for his out of pocket expense. In addition we are attempting to contact the homeowner to apologize and to see if there is anything else we can do in lines with our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. I do want to thank you again for sharing your experience. I assure you that if given another opportunity to serve you in the future we will do everything we can to begin to earn back your confidence and trust.

They arrived the same day to fix the problem. The motor had malfunctioned, so they replaced it, and the air conditioning worked fine. Because the motor was covered under warranty there was no charge for the part or labor.
Description of Work: The air conditioning in our rental house stopped working on one of the hottest days of the summer. I called One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning because they had installed the heating and air conditioning system a couple of years ago.

I just called to see when I could get someone out to look at it and they sent Mike who arrived 1/1/2 hour after I hung up. I was expecting it to be the next day or so. He fixed the problem and I was good to go! He was very professional and offered good tips. I have had 2 experiences with them and give them an A+. I highly recommend them.

They did an excellent job and I am very pleased! They were extremely courteous and every one of the workers were very professional, clean, and respectful to me and my house. They were working during a major heat wave during the summer, so they loaned, and installed two window units to use during the weekend before the work got started so we wouldn't have to sweat while they worked. I really appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me at all, and they also set up a financing option that included 0% interest.
Description of Work: I hired them to install a new heating and air conditioning unit and moved the location of the unit from one side of the house to another. They took care of the related electrical work and cleaned up after themselves.

Two hour response - called enroute. Analyzed a failed unit in a two unit system. Outside air was 98 degrees!!! Complete check performed. Clearly described and explained the issue. Technician called called One Hour's Customer Service Representative to determine warranty status who further called Trane. Explained that the issue was still in warranty. Thoroughly and clearly explained all options and costs. This is a truly exceptional company staffed by excellent customer service representatives and highly experienced technicians. Every technician who has serviced my units over the past 4 years has been professional, efficient and highly trained. I would never use anyone else!
Description of Work: Used this company 3 months ago for unrelated service call. Just outstanding in every respect. 2 hour response time. Technician (Tim Buyserie) - extremely knowledgable, efficient, and courteous. Previous technicians from this company equally impressive. Work performed was thorough analysis and fault determination. Replaced a contactor. At my initiative (based on technicians analysis) I had a capacitor replaced as it has been an item of previous ongoing concern based on previous analysis. Technician explained the pros and cons of performing this particular repair at this time and left the decision completely to me. This company gets it!!!

As I'm sure everyone is aware, it's been REALLY HOT outside this past week. Our A/C went out last night (7-7-12) and our home was in the high 80's! With a 13 wk and 19 month old at home, the repair request was urgent. We called one hour around noon and they promptly sent out a tech "Mike G". They stated that our appt. would be anywhere from 4 to 8, however because of the children being inside the home with no A/C, the tech (Mike) arrived early! He diagnosed our system and made the necessary repairs. The pricing was fair and our A/C is pushing out cold air once again. We couldn't be happier. We feel it's also necessary to point out that they accepted the Angies LIst $25 coupon by simply looking at our computer screen since our printer was malfunctioning! Most other companies would have stuck to having to have a printed out coupon. Will definitely call on One Hour in the future if needed!!

I called to set up an appointment, our AC was working. I told them that I could not be home until 4:30. Knowing this they scheduled me for 3:00 to 7:00, they call to say the tech. was on his way, told them again that I couldn't be there until 4:30 and they said they would need to reschedule and they would note that I couldn't be there until 4:30. Just got a call and they said that the tech. was on his way. It is 3:30, I again told them that I couldn't be there until 4:30, they said they would need to reschedule, I told them to forget it. Their ad on the radio says they will work with you . . . that's a load of bull.

We are all about respecting our client’s time and in your case we did not. The day of your call, Monday June 11, was preceded by the two hottest days of the summer. I listened to the original request for service and you made it perfectly clear that you would not be available until 4:30 PM. On that day we were attempting to service not only our Comfort Club Members, who receive front of the line service, but also new clients who required immediate attention. Unfortunately when we took your call we tried to pigeon hole you into one of our available appointment schedules rather than working around your schedule. That is not the way we typically do things and I apologize for our failure to respect your time. In turn I have forwarded to you a $50 Gift Cards and hope that if you require service in the future, you will give us a second chance. I assure you that if given another opportunity we will do everything we can to begin to earn back your confidence and trust.

The technician was professional and courteous however I felt misled the Person who made the appointment is deceiving they should tell you in advance of these 5 levels of charges and not show up and say If you want me to troubleshoot it’ll be $400.00
Description of Work: Wow! Where do I start, I am a retired disabled Vet. I’ve seen a lot therefore I was skeptical at first and couldn’t figure out what the catch was due to all of the great reviews. So I called the line to make an appointment possibly do a replacement of my entire system. The person I spoke with on the phone was a true fast talking salesman. I asked him how much it would be to assess my system. He stated approximately $89.00, I asked, that for an assessment? By the time the call ended I was to receive 2 discounts and pay $39.00 for the initial assessment visit. When the tech came the first thing he informed me was it would be $279.00 if I wanted my system repaired. I didn’t want to pay him for telling me I needed Freon and watch him leave, or, I could sign up for their 12 month membership paying a monthly fee. Without the 12 month membership it would be approximately $400.00 to repair my system which needed Freon. On top of that the $39.00 initial visit was up to $109.00 combined with the $400.00 would have put me at $509.00 with the two discounts approx. $459.00. At this point I became upset and the tech made a call and gave me a break down to $319.00 for putting Freon in my system and still did not find my leak. This was the reason for increasing the price, to do a leak check. They have a 5 level system and continue to increase the price level by level when they can’t repair the system. If you make it to level 5 you could pay over $1300.00 just to fix your system. To all Retirees beware! Military Retirees watch your 6, They have some fast talkers to set you up then polite, professional and knowledgeable techs the get in your bank account. Wow $300.00 For Freon, now watch the twist. While we were unhappy to get the review we understand that feedback is the only way to improve our business. We are sorry we were unable to connect with you after our technician left your home. Our goal is to reach every one of our customers with a “Happy Check” after each and every visit. This way if there is a concern we can alleviate it immediately. Thank you for allowing us back into your home after we received your review. We look forward to our continued relationship and, as we discussed, being able to take care of your home comfort project after your other projects are finished.

The whole experience was wonderful!
Description of Work: We asked 'ONE HOUR' to come out for an estimate to replace our heat pump system on a Saturday afternoon. The rep was professional, on time, and very knowledgeable. He told us about several choices-good/better/best systems. We went with the mid price range. He told us about all the options and insurance plans we cold also buy. There was no pressure/hard selling done. He even offered us a finance plan. When we made all our choices and everything was decided, we asked how soon we'd be able to have the work done. He said they could be there Monday morning-and the whole job would be completed that day. And it was! The techs were polite, friendly & fast. We're very happy with this company and have recommended them to all our friends.

I got a "heads up" call at 2:30 and arrived home just a few minutes before the technician (Jay). After showing him where the system components were, he went to work. About an hour later, Jay brought me the report on my system. He explained the system was in good shape, although a capacitor on a fan was marginal and would fail soon. He also advised that my system did not have a "ceiling saver" switch, which while not required when my condo was built, is now required in new builds. He suggested installing one since although my system has a drain pan, there is always the chance the pan could overflow should a problem occur. Jay then installed my thermostat, giving me a few minutes to decide how I wanted to proceed. I had him replace the capacitor & install the switch. He completed the job within 2 hours, left me with all my paperwork, took my old thermostat so the mercury it contained could be properly disposed of. I was very happy with the entire process. Everyone was pleasant, respectful, efficient and knowledgable. I will be using them in the future and reccomending them to others.
Description of Work: I called on 4/24/12 to request an appointment for a technician to install a programmable thermostat and give my system a check up, since it hadn't been done since I moved in. They had an appointment open for the next afternoon. I requested a 45 minute "heads up" so I could me the tech.

Outstanding from first contact for service to completion. Met scheduled time exactly as promised. Technician was truly exceptional in technical knowledge, analysis, trouble shooting and performance of the work. Kept me informed throughout. There were no surprises! This company obviously hires only skilled, experienced, highly trained and knowledgable technicians. Servicing technician was obviously proud of his employment with One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning and his work reflected this. Cost of service was reflected by the high cost of R-22. Company truly understands the term 'customer service'.

Courtesy, knowledge, responsiveness and thoroughness were all A+++. Classic is probably a very good company that does very good work, but in our minds not enough so to warrant the high quote.
Description of Work: No services performed; we only got an estimate, and later signed with another company. Professionalism, punctuality and responsiveness were extremely impressive, but price was not. We called Classic for an estimate on a complete residential system (no prior central air or heat, so we needed EVERYTHING done from scratch). They made an appointment for that evening. The estimator arrived exactly on schedule and could not have been more impressive. When he left, we were convinced that he, the company, the product and the service were the very best in the business, but the price was considerably higher than we expected. In spite of our sticker shock, we tentatively decided that we were willing to pay their price if necessary but still needed to get another estimate. While we were waiting for the second estimate Classic's estimator called and said they could drop their initial quote by roughly 20%, which we were more comfortable with. Then, to our surprise, the competitor's proposal was about as impressive but the price was ANOTHER 20% lower, so we went with them.

Shortly after ordering the Nest thermostats, Ryan emailed me to set up a service appointment. His correspondence was prompt with a very friendly tone. The 4-hr appointment window was acceptable. On appointment day, Ryan called at 0745 that the technician would be arriving soon...0900. It was an 0830-1230 window, so 0900 wasn't late, but maybe him calling so early threw off the expectation. (Initially, I rated Punctuality a B, but the technician wasn't late.) Otherwise, Mike the technician was very personable and professional. He was also considerate in wearing shoe covers each time upon entering the house. He even asked if he could help me install my kitchen faucet! It was nice to know that although the Nest units are fairly new to the market, Mike already some experience with them, both installing and troubleshooting. The installs went well. The 1st floor unit's GUI didn't sense my fan even though it was wired correctly. He did a couple of tests to see if the problem lay with the wiring or with the thermostat. He determined the wiring was fine, and even though the GUI didn't sense the fan, the thermostat operated it correctly. I received a phone call from One Hour about an hour after completion of the service asking for feedback. All in all, a great experience! (Cost of installation was a standard rate paid directly to Nest.)
Description of Work: Replaced basic Honeywell thermostats with Nest thermostats (They were the only local Nest-certified company at the time of this review.)

I invited the top 4 Angie's List providers to give me estimates. Of the 3 that made apointments, Classic was one. They were not the cheapest but also were not the most expensive. My first impression of Classic Air was the office staff - those who answer the phones and set appointments. Wow - very professional. They fit the estimate time into my schedule (late after I get off work) and told me Mike would be the person visiting me, that he would be wearing a badge and would prove who he was. Mike showed on time, looked at the existing system and then measured the entire inside of the house and ran some calculations to see how big of a system I needed. He confirmed that the 3.5 ton unit I currently had was appropriate. I signed up for their yearly comfort program where they make sure the systems is working properly before summer and winter. Along with that came a 5 year labor warranty. Also, if something goes wrong, and they don't have it fixed in 24 hours, you get $500. The next day I was called back to see if he acted professionally and if he answered all my questions. He then laid out the three levels of units they had. I chose the top-of-the-line Premium unit which is a 16 SEER unit with a variable speed fan and de-humidifier. The cost was $800 more than the cheapest estimate which was a 14 SEER unit with dual speed fan. It was 3K less than the most expensive which was a 14 SEER with more whistles and bells. Since my time is valuable, I first asked "If I give you the go ahead, how long will it take before I can get it installed?" Mike's reponse was "The next day. We have enough installation crews that we won't wait. If they aren't installing they are helping with repair. If there are no repairs, the repair crews help install. One doesn't adversly affect the other". I told him what my schedule was like and he offered a Saturday installation which I accepted. They showed at 10 am and finished at 8 pm - only took a small break. The crew was very courteous and hard working. They wore booties over their shoes until floor protectors were put down and cleaned up after themselves. It has been in almost a month since I had it installed. Since then, the volume of air coming out is 5x what it was before. I find it blowing less and the air seems fresher. This winter isn't a great barometer because it has been mild. I am looking forward to seeing what happens with the AC unit. If I had to give any constructive criticism there would be two inputs. 1. While they informed me the high efficiency units use PVC instead of metal (by code) it wasn't made apparent that they had to cut a hole in my roof. I wasn't prepared and right now I am the only person in a HOA neighborhood with a white PVC "T" coming out of the roof. I called Mike back and they said they would work with me on it if something came up. Mostly I think the HOA needs to revise their rules since they were written before high E units. 2. I was never told before the unit was installed that the city would need to come in and inspect the work. It makes sense but I was caught off guard. I could have planned better with advanced notice of this. Overall I was very happy and my criticisms were minor. I don't have to worry about HVAC costs for the next 5 years (for everything) - that feels good.
Description of Work: I had my 19 year old, 3.5 ton, HVAC system replaced with a SEER 16 (95%) efficient system.

Great service. He was vey personable and knowledgable.
Description of Work: I signed up for their yearly heating and AC service. Its about $12/month. I can't remember if there was a sign-up fee but i dont remember it being significant. They normally come out once a year to service both the heating and AC to minimize the time you have to be home. I asked if they could do it separately .. one in the spring and one in the fall/winter. The tech explained what he was doing and didn't pressure me to buy a suggested upgrade part. He gave me lots of tips on how to keep everything running smoothly and to prolong the life of the unit.

I selected Classic for three reasons; the excellent reviews in Angie’s List, their final price, and an informative meeting with Ken their installation supervisor. The crew arrived on time and was very courteous throughout the process. Travis, their lead installer, was very knowledgeable and answered my numerous questions during the install. I was also allowed to help during the installation. This eased my anxieties about all the work that was being done to my house.
Description of Work: We needed a new heat pump for the house's dual fuel system. As the house is 25+ years old, we also wanted to replace all the supply and return ducting for the first floor. In the bidding process I decided to also replace the gas furnance and air handler.

Got 3 different quotes on replacing all of the ductwork in our crawl after flooding from this last big storm. Two other quotes were between $4000-4500. Their estimate was over $7000 for what appeared to be comparable work on the quotes! Even showed the quotes to a general contractor friend and he told me to rip it up. Made the mistake of telling them it was an insurance job and I think they saw dollar signs. Needless to say, we didn't use them.On a positive note, the guy I dealt with was very nice, professional, and quick to return my calls. That's great, but not worth $3k!
Description of Work: Didn't use them in the end.

Used another company and was very happy with price, performance and quality.
Description of Work: Left message for an estimate, never heard back. Called again and set up an estimate date, salesman came out, very friendly and talkative untill we didn't sign, after all it was an estimate. When we told him we would get back to him after we recieved all our estimates his demeanor changed. After a week passed he called back and offered us 1000.00 off the quoted price. Not a good move. When I work with a company I want the best price they can give me from the beginning. Needless to say we went with another company.

It was one of the hottest weekends of the summer. My air conditioning stopped working. My sister and brother-in-law were at my house in Virginia Beach. I was not there. They called to tell me the problem. My wife went to Angie's List and looked up three companies and gave them the numbers. They called Classic Air, that morning and someone was at the house around 1pm. As my family would only be in Virginia Beach until that Sunday, we were concerned about getting the pump repaired before they left. Classic Air was responsive, and punctual. My brother-in-law actually called them from the beach, where he and my sister were keeping cool. They returned home to meet the technician and did not have to wait long for him to arrive. They said that he was knowledgeable and quick. They did have to ask him to check the coolant level, which needed to be refilled. At first I thought that the charges were high. I learned that labor costs would have been lower if we'd had a contract with the company (we did not have one). Also, the cost of coolant is relatively high. Overall I am pleased with the company, and I would use them again.
Description of Work: Classic Air replaced the capacitor and refilled the coolant in my heat pump.
