This one review will cover a couple repairs and the cost is the total coast of all, not including Comfort Club membership. January 8 2014->My heating stopped working on a cold snow day. I called One Hour and they were able to get out quickly. John Nottingham was the tech. He determined that the drain pipe had frozen backing the condensation water into the drain pan with causing the sensor to shut down the furnace before the drain pan overflowed. He cleared the drain pipe and it worked fine. He did a great job and I was happy with his service. The cost for this was $203 which I would rate a C. John gets an A+. I did some research on why the drain pipe freezes and called several companies for solutions. One Hour seemed to have the best solution so I called them back out. January 23 2014->Jeremy Fox came out to install heat tape on my drain line. I had mentioned that I needed to leave the house by a certain time. He arrived within their guaranteed time frame but I was going to have to leave before he finished. He said that was not a problem since all the work was outside. When I got back I saw the job was finished and to my satisfaction. I felt he did a great job. The cost was $109 which I would rated an A and I would give Jeremy an A+. June 19 2014->I had the A/C on for awhile when I noticed water dripping from the ceiling. I turned off the A/C and called One Hour late the evening of the 18th. She was able to get a tech out the following day. My tech was Mike Green. He determined a plug was not installed properly at installation (installed by Seven Services). I guess on humid days there is condensation outside the drain pan that dripped on onto the attic floor and then ended up dripping into the house. He needed to go pick up the proper plug and come back. He also fixed and air leak. The cost for the repair was $168 which I would rate an A- and I would give Mike an A+. June 19 2014->As soon and Mike left I noticed cold air was not coming out. The combination of repairs this year made me think the previous repair may have had an issue so I called them back. She was able to get John Nottingham out. Ends up the problem was the box Virginia Power installed shut off my A/C due to the hot weather. The timing was perfect I guess. John checked everything out and determined the work Mike had done before was good. The cost was $49, no rating see July 1 2014 contact, and I would give John an A+. I received a survey from One Hour and I objected to the last $49 charge. My reasoning was due to the timing circumstances, me being a Comfort Club member, and because I had just paid $168 that they should charge me the diagnostic charge. July 1 2014->I returned a call from Eric. He wanted to know why I objected to the $49 charge and explained why the charge was there. I understand his reasoning and if he hadn't been out before I would have had no objection. It sounds as if this Dominion Power box causes lots of service calls. It seems to me if they would maybe put a mention for the customer to check for a box on there recording prior to talking to a scheduler that could save the customer some money and One Hour some time for service calls like that. One mention to me and I would have realized that was probably the issue. Anyway Eric said he would refund my $49. But he didn't seem too happy about it. I continue to be a Comfort Club member and plan on continuing to use them.

Don't bother calling this company for repairs if you are not part of their "comfort club." We had been comfort club members for several years and just ended our membership on June 30. Of course, 4 days later our A/C unit went down. We called One Hour, who we have been customers of for 4+ years, and they told us that they are only servicing comfort club members right now and we would have to wait a week to have someone take a look at our broken unit. My business is now going elsewhere and I would recommend that you look elsewhere as well. I understand that its a holiday weekend, but a competitor is going to be here in less than an hour.

They provided my house with heat. They guy who came out to talk to me was professional and the guys who came to install the furnace were professional too and the guy who came to inspect it after was professional. I was overall happy and impressed by the level of professionalism. They were the only people i got a quote from and therefore i cannot compare price. I would use them again.

Doug the technician came out and checked the system and as I already new it needed Freon and probably has a leak. At this point he goes to his truck and comes back with a pamphlet and proceeds to explain how One Hour does business. First everything is a flat fee depending on what needs to be done. The catch is that they have members prices and non members prices. So for my repair is was going to be a $69 service fee, $169 Leak Test, $410 for Freon for a non member price of $648.00. If I was a member the total cost would have been $493.90. So erragradless of how much Freon my system would required it was a flat fee of $410.00 so if it only needed one pound that is pretty expensive considering you can go to Craigs list and get a 30lbs bottle for less than $260.00. I paid my $69 service fee and sent them on there way. If I would have known how they do business I would have never called this company. I waisted my time and money.

Nothing to report to date. Hopefully my first impression of their customer service (or lack thereof) turns out to be wrong...

Response from Classic Air's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning
Let me first start off by offering a sincere apology. It is bad when you spend your money and don’t get the appropriate communication in return. It is even worse when it is your first dealing with a company. Your concerns that you voiced on Angie’s List are all fair and would be the way most people felt in your shoes. I would like to offer a slight explanation which will hopefully explain everything and will open the doors to us being able to prove to you that we are THE premier service provider in Hampton Roads. We did receive your online sign-up at 5:26 pm on May 1. We attempted to contact you via the phone number you listed but were only able to reach a business line and were unable to locate your name in the directory. At 9:51 am on May 2, we sent you an email thanking you for your business and asking you to contact us so we may set up your initial service visits. The only problem with the last line above is the fact that we left off a letter/number in the email address which we just now discovered thanks to your Angie’s List comments. We take full responsibility for the oversight and we offer our sincere apologies. If you would be kind enough to give us a second chance and would like to continue with the Comfort Club, please call our office at 757-490-2785 (or 1-888-333-8888) or you may email ryan.kletz@onehourair.com and we will arrange everything for you. It would be understandable if you did not want to give us a second chance as we understand that first impressions are so important. If you chose to go that route, please contact us for a full refund, no questions asked. Thank you again for the valuable feedback and I hope this short note explains our mistake and at least allows us an opportunity to begin to earn a little trust.

I just want to make this clear, the representative came to my house and was very respectful in order to gain my business. The price quote was much higher than I wanted but I decided to go forward with the contract. I had 2 other estimates the day before and one was roughly the same price and I was still waiting to hear back from the other. I received a Phone call from the other company Monday morning and met with the rep, the price was significantly lower than one hour had originally quoted me. I called the rep for One Hour and discussed the matter about canceling the contract to take the other estimate. The representative proceeded to talk trash about the other company saying that "they will not provide quality work" and "they will not back up the work that they do". There were many other things their rep said that I considered inappropriate and highly unprofessional. It felt like he would say anything to keep my business but in the process lost my business. I will never call these guys again for service or anything for that matter. I saved 4500 dollars by taking the other estimate and I am very impressed at the workmanship performed. I completely replaced every component in my AC/Heating system from the unit to the vents in the house.

First a note on the ratings. The service tech gets all A's, but the person I communicated with via e-mail gets D's and F's. Also the question as to whether I would us them again, I am really undecided. When you don't get the advertised price it makes you not want to go there again. I gave One Hour a call in the morning after my heat went out the night before. They gave me an appointment that afternoon. They called me when they were on there way and was actually early and waited for me to get home. The service tech was friendly and quick. Discovered the problem and gave me his recommendation. Then was able to fix the problem quickly. At that point I would have rated them 5 stars but... Their website list the diagnostic fee of $49 and they charged me $69. I questioned this via e-mail (the service tech knew nothing about this). Basically he knew what was on the website and I was wrong. I even sent him a link and cut and paste of that webpage. And his comment was the website has been unchanged for two years and he knows everything that is on the website. No explanation was given as to why the website says $49 and I was charged $69. One other note. The problem was a frozen drain pipe. I had a question the service tech didn't know the answer to so he tried calling the office and couldn't get through. It seems like it would be a good idea to have a separate telephone line for the service techs to call. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: After the above review was posted Eric from One Hour called. He apologized and refunded me my $20. We had a good conversation. After my drain line froze again I had them come out and extend the pipe and put heat tape on it. The tech (sorry can't remember his name) was prompt, very nice, and did a good job. The first cold night/day afterwards the furnace had no issues. Then the snowstorm hit. The heat tape was plugged to an an outdoor outlet. I guess the snow caused the ground falt to trip. Then the drain pipe froze again. And again no heat. I called One Hour. Probably should have talked to Eric, but did not. I explained the situation to the lady I talked to, their previous visits etc. She told me they would call me back. They never did. I realize they were busy that day, but I expected at least a call back. But I really thought considering I was a Comfort Club member and since they had been out twice before that I would have been moved up on the list. After a cold night my drain pipe thawed and I have heat again.

I called on a Saturday and was pleased to find there was no additional charge for a weekend visit. Within two hours, Mike arrived at my house (earlier than I expected) and was extremely courteous. He diagnosed my air conditioner with low coolant very quickly and also gave me plenty of information about my admittedly ancient system that we know we need to replace soon. I was quite impressed with his attitude and would recommend him (specifically) for any repair work.

I met with a company rep on Friday afternoon about possibly needing to replace my old unit, which was on its last legs. It was struggling to send cool air throughout the house. As a result, the bedrooms were uncomfortably warm and the whole house was fairly humid. After his survey of the house and the old unit and much discussion, I opted to go ahead with purchasing a new one. We left the installation date up in the air because I needed to see when I could get off work. Within an hour, someone else called and told me they could install the unit the next day (Saturday), avoiding the whole time-off hassle. The service reps showed up the next morning as promised and got right to work. I have pets and they were very careful to make sure none of them escaped while they were going in and out and, more importantly, none of the cats found their way into the exposed ductwork. They also installed a programmable thermostat and showed me how to use it. As promised, they cleaned up and removed all the debris. They were friendly, courteous and professional. I'd recommend them to anyone in need of heating/A/C service.

Our original appointment for an initial service evaluation was scheduled for the following week but when I called to reschedule they sent over a repairman that very day. The repairman was punctual, professional, and clean. He spent almost the entire day completing the service and repairs but we were shocked when the final bill came to $859.90. We were charged $279 alone just for replacing a breaker switch. It cost us $399 to have the humidifier resealed and insulated. The cheapest service was cleaning the evaporator coil for $109. My wife was at home the entire time and she felt that the entire day was one big sales pitch towards getting us to replace the entire system and join their service club. Based on cost alone I do not plan to use One Hour Heating and Air again. UPDATE: One Hour Heating and A/C contacted us immediately after my original Angie's List post. They were genuinely concerned, listened to our input, and worked diligently to ensure we were completely satisfied. They even agreed to refund us a portion of the repair cost that we believed to be excessive. This follow up experience impressed us and we agreed to have a company representative come back out to the house and talk with us about replacing one of our older more inefficient units. The salesman was on-time, professional, knowledgeable about our current system, and worked with us to find an affordable replacement unit. One Hour even discounted our previous repair bill off the cost of the new unit, along with a military discount, and an additional discount for joining their service plan membership. The new unit was installed the very next day and has been working perfectly. To top it off One Hour called my wife less than 24 hours after installation to follow up once again and make sure we were completely happy.
Description of Work: Evaluation of old system, replacement of electrical breaker, cleaned evaporator coil, and installed sheet metal to seal and insulate the humidifier on 7/2. UPDATE: Came back on 7/15 to install a new compressor, coil, fan, and water lines.

A week ago, late Saturday afternoon, we noticed some condensation on our a/c unit in our garage. Upon further inspection, we also found ice forming on one of the lines inside and at the outside unit. Having been a member of their Comfort Program for 2 years, I called to report a problem and ask for help, thinking I'd have to wait until sometime on Sunday or even Monday. My phone call was returned within 30 minutes and by 7:30 the same evening a technician was out to assess the problem. Thorough testing was done and it was figured out where the small leak was coming from. Our system was charged again to get us through the weekend until we could get a service rep to come to the house, evaluate our aging system and recommend some kind of replacement. The service tech was very polite and professional and could answer every question we had that evening. He then put us in contact with his supervisor and we had an appointment for evaluation that Tuesday. Every detail was gone over with us regarding what was going wrong with our system and what they thought would be the best replacement. With everything agreed upon, we were scheduled for a system replacement for the very next day! It means a lot to me that it was this fast because from the middle thru the end of the upcoming weekend it was supposed to be in the upper 80's and humid and rainy. I am one who cannot tolerate high heat and humidity. Arrival time set for between 8 - 10 a.m. the next day, the workers came @ 9 a.m. and started removing the old while the other team members got the new system ready. Everyone was polite and professional, wearing booties in the house when needed, and picked up and took all the trash and old system with them when they left. The new thermostat was explained to our satisfaction (and it talks too!) Needless to say I was a very happy camper knowing I had a new system that would carry me through the hot summer months ahead. The price I feel was reasonable, although I can't think of anyone who wants to spend that kind of money just out of the blue. It is a necessary evil. I still remain a member of their Comfort Program and I know great service will be available to me if I need to call them.
Description of Work: Classic Air replaced my gas heating and air conditioning system for my home after determining my 13 year old unit was leaking small amounts of freon and freezing up the system. After being with the company on a monthly plan since 2011, this warranted home visit was extremely important to us and to get it resolved right away.

Several years ago, I had these people install a new heat pump and repeated the same fairly recently. I am particularly impressed with their service policy, for which I pay monthly. This way, the check-up and service is done regularly. Everyone -- and I mean EVERYONE -- with whom I have come in contact has been superior in every way. The workmen and friendly, knowledgable, and considerate. The workmen do not enter the house without putting plastic "foot-ies" over their shoes, the work efficiently and quietly. The area in which they have worked is left cleaner than it was when they arrived.

I called to get an estimate and they made an appt for a convenient time that fit my schedule. The technician was on time and seemed knowledgeable. He wrote an estimate and let me know that his company is very dependable and timely with upholding the warranty if I were to buy their unit. After we discussed the unit and he looked at my old one, he gave me the quote and left. He told me that because of the high quality, his estimate would not be the cheapest.
Description of Work: An estimate was given for a new central a/c unit combination with gas heater. The service tech was very professional, punctual, and courteous. The quote was $5900.00 and it was on the high end since other quotes were between $4500 and 5000 for the same sized unit. But the company seems to be very attentive and reliable so it may be worth the price because I am not familiar with the quality of each unit.

I've been robbed! I've had Classic Air "service" my HVAC units for more than a year. Previously the only problems I've had is one of our AC unit runs low on freon. Since Classic Air has worked on our systems we have had to have them out three times to repair one of our furnaces (always a different problem, of course.) All three times we lost heat completely in half of our house. They have never checked the freon levels in our AC units, they've checked the heating systems and the electrical side of AC units once. According to the company they only check the systems once to lessen the burden on the homeowners. They say if the freon is low the customer will call when the AC isn't cooling! We paid $20+ dollars per month and only got 10 % off service calls. Please save your money and find someone else!

Thanks for taking your time to share your concerns. It is always our goal to provide “On Time, Can’t Lose” service. One mechanism we have in place to insure this is at the conclusion of all service calls we do an outbound call to make certain that we have met your expectations. On two occasions all we did was leave a message requesting you to call if we missed the mark. However after several of the calls we did speak with someone and were told that the service went well, service was fine, and that we answered all your questions. We have also noted that after the Super Tune Up we were told that it took the Technician a long time and the service was great. It was not until we reached out to you on both January 29 and January 30, 2013 that we realized we had failed to deliver on our promise. It appears that your Two Zone Heating and Air Conditioning systems are 10+ years old and were installed by someone other than One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning. We were first called in May of 2011 because one of the Air Conditioning Systems was not cooling. Not being familiar with the service and/or maintenance history we completed a Complete System Evaluation and ultimately replaced a transformer. Subsequent to that call there have been four other service incidences that we have been notified of and responded to (two of which were a result of “no cooling”). The first required us to replace a switch on one system and in a separate instance we replaced a capacitor on the other condensor. The other two were “no heat” situations. One required us to replace a limit switch and a year later on the same furnace we replaced a fuse. None of the Air Conditioning calls have required us to address the refrigerant which is fortunate because refrigerant problems often are the cause of ongoing service failures. All of the repairs were a result of a part failure .These types of repair are typically easy to diagnose and it appears that in all instances no follow up calls were required to address the same problem in the same season. The fact that five repair calls were required over a 20 month period does not alarm me when we take into account the age of the multiple systems. On the initial call for service you opted to get involved in our Comfort Club. Several of the benefits of membership include front of the line service, up to a 30% discount on any repairs and annual Precision Tune Ups and Professional Cleaning. As you mentioned most of our clients prefer for us to do what we call a “Super” Tune Up once a year rather than inconveniencing them more frequently. However we do have clients that prefer “Seasonal” Tune Ups, Quarterly and in some special cases monthly. In most cases we honor these requests at no additional cost. My records indicate that when we called you on January 29, 2013 you expressed this concern and our Representative shared with you that we could provide you with seasonal inspections, at no additional cost, if that was more to your liking. In an attempt to express our desire to provide can’t lose service we have sent you a check for $71.70, which is your Comfort Club Dues since your last service incidence. In addition I have enclosed a $50.00 gift card and ask that you keep us in mind as your back up company in the future. Thanks again for taking your time to share your concerns.

Price was better than competitors on equal if not better system.Saleman was low key and professional. Installation was quick and we had A/C that day. They were very thorough and made sure everything met our expectations. When it got cold and we needed the heating tweaked a little bit, they came right out and replaced some ducting and made sure the system worked to our expectations again. It has performed flawlessly ever since. Both systems are quieter, and cost significantly less to operate than the older ones they replaced. They even set up the appointment for the City Inspector. When he showed up and saw their name on the equipment, he commented that: "I know these guys, they do good work!" No problems or complaints. I would reccomend them to friends, family or even complete strangers for any HVAC work.
Description of Work: Replaced original (1985) heating unit and 15 year old A/C unit.

Their timeliness was exceptional for the first visit--it was a Friday night at 9pm when the first technician came. He was unable to fix the unit with a replacement capacitor, but was willing to stay later for additional troubleshooting. The next step was to replace the motor, which I felt was not worth the expense, given how old my HVAC was. I was able to schedule an estimate for that Sunday. The new system was installed the following Tuesday and only took one day. During installation, one of the installers slipped off the plywood that was in the attic and damaged the ceiling in a bedroom. It's taken 3 individual visits from a repairman from the company to fix, and I'm still waiting on the final spackle and paint. Since my schedule changes daily and I often can't predict the next day's schedule, it's been a hassle to schedule these follow-up visits. The installers also left a few bumps and scratches on the walls in the stairwell on the way up the stairs. Additionally, they didn't clean up some of the mess they made in the attic (left the drywall piece up there, screws, some electrical wiring off the old unit). Outside, where a PVC pipe comes out of the house from the attic for condensation, they failed to route it best for gravity drainage. (The freon line that ran into the house was below it, causing the PVC pipe to have a section lower than the outlet of the pipe.) I plan on addressing this issue with a technician when they come for scheduled maintenance/tune-up. Overall I think i was able to get a good deal with the price. I replaced the entire unit for just shy of $5000 using deals they had going on and an Angie's List coupon. The company has been persistent with the follow-up, but I just don't have an ideal schedule for setting up those appointments.
Description of Work: Classic Air replaced my entire HVAC system after failed troubleshooting minor fixes on a 27(!!) year old system.
