Blessing’s Plumbing was first started in 1955 as “B & Z Plumbing” by my father, Allen Blessing. He managed his plumbing business for 23 years, until his untimely death in 1978. Our family originated from Germany in the early 1800′s, settling in Oklahoma and eventually moving west to Idaho.
After graduating in 1972, I joined the Navy and was stationed in Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia, where I served for four years. Upon leaving the Navy I settled in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I decided to venture into the trade I knew and grew up in.
I served my plumbing apprenticeship with a well-established plumbing company in Norfolk Virginia until 1980. I worked for the government for 12 years until starting my own plumbing business in 1992.
I started “Blessing’s Plumbing” in 1992, in the Tidewater area of Virginia, with one truck. Since that time we have grown — In 2005 we began construction of our new office located on Jensen Drive in Virginia Beach. The new building was completed on September 11, 2006.
Green Technology
Our building is equipped with geothermal heating and air-conditioning, natural gas tankless water heater, energy-saving thermopane windows, and water-saving fixtures, applying our “green” plumbing knowledge to reduce operating costs and maintain a clean environment.
Work Culture
We have managed to give our employees a work culture and an environment to call their own. We could have not done this without the help of all our loyal customers, hard work, and dedicated employees.
The Future
We look forward to the future in serving our community plumbing needs in “The Greater Hampton Roads” and with hopes to being a “Blessing” to our present customers and future ones to come on board. We plan on carrying on “A Tradition in Plumbing” passed down by my father Allen Blessing.

Mr. [Member Name Removed]. Thank you for the kind review you left us. It’s so refreshing to hear how you educated you are about the cost of doing business. As far as I remember we responded to you in a above average manner. We gave you great service and were very polite to you in a professional manner. Instead of calling us to explain your concerns, which I’m very certain we could have worked out something with you. Instead you took it upon yourself to just rape us with your negative response. Wow! Impressive! May you and your family have a blessed Christmas!

Horrible business that has no integrity and does NOT stand behind their work. I hired them in August 2018 and called every Monday to follow up with no results. No return calls, just took the money and kicked me to the curb. I hand delivered a letter of my intent personally to Craig Blessings, the owner stating I want a refund for the lack of repairs and for the $114 I paid extra a year to be a PRIORITY MEMBER, which gives me 10% off parts and labor. Mr. Blessings said he could not refund anything to me, especially the $114.00 BECAUSE then he would have to send me another bill for the 10% discounts. Here is a quote from his email response to my letter, "If this had happened to me, I would be very upset too. I am a consumer too". And yet he hides from me and never answers my call to update me. His update was that he took the money, cannot repair my bidet and won't admit to it. STAY AWAY FROM BLESSINGS PLUMBING. He is a nightmare, not a blessing. Please warn everyone you know to stay away. NEVER CALL THEM for anything. Otherwise, you'll be seeing him in court too.

I had a couple of plumbing issues, a leak under the house and a slow toilet and shower drain. I called Blessing's Plumbing on Thursday, Nov. 15th and explained in detail exactly what was going on and why I called. I asked to speak to someone who could answer a couple of questions before they came out. I was told by the woman who answered the phone that there was no one available who could answer my questions, but that when a technician returned, she would give them the message and make sure that they gave me a call. She suggested that I schedule an appointment in the meantime. No one called me back and when the day for my appointment came, on Tuesday, Nov. 20th, the technician was late. I happened to be outside and saw a Blessings Plumbing truck drive by a few times. I finally flagged him down and was told that he was given the wrong name, the wrong number, and the wrong name for the neighborhood I lived in. When I spoke to him about my reason for the appointment, he informed me that he had not been told that he would be going underneath my home, had not been given the proper information regarding my appointment and proceeded to tell me that it would cost me another $150.00 just to check out the problem in addition to the $89.00 diagnostic fee. He stated that it was probably Martha who took my call and that she was probably too busy thinking about the upcoming holiday and wasn't paying attention. I had to remind this "professional" to put booties on over his muddy shoes and he seemed more concerned with what I was going to pay than providing any kind of decent customer service or quality work. He put a dirty rug on my brand new upholstered bench, he took everything out of my bathroom, including the toilet plunger and put it in my daughter's bedroom on her carpet, without asking me. He complained about his boss and the business throughout his time in my home. Every time I had a question or concern, he had to walk outside and go to the truck in order to talk to his "boss." In the end, he wasted more than 2 hours of my time, left a mess in my bathroom, spent less than 10 minutes under my house and then told me there was no leak when I could clearly see water puddled under my house and had witnessed water dripping when the shower was running. He couldn't figure out was causing the slow toilet and shower drain, didn't even attempt to snake the shower drain, didn't solve the problem, permanently scratched and ruined my toilet when snaking it, cracked my marble threshold when dragging heavy equipment over it, tried to sell me on a "discount program" that cost $125.00, then tried to tell me that the problem was due to my "piece of crap" toilet (his words) and tried to sell me a new toilet even though I told him that the toilet had been working perfectly well until the previous week. Then he tried to charge me more than $500.00 for the privilege of his and the company's ineptness. When I refused, he went outside to talk to his "boss" again and came back with the lower price of $239.00. He told me that if I didn't pay anything that he would get fired and told me that he would come back at no charge and use a camera to find out what the problem was, I just needed to pay the $239.00 first. I agreed under protest and paid by check. Then he informed me that he did not have a camera on him and I would need to reschedule with the office, but he would let them know that he would be coming back. I called the office right after he left and lo and behold, they were closed for the holidays. This was 2pm on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I was very upset and left a message with the answering service. I was told that someone from administration would give me a call. No one called back. I called again on Wednesday, no one called back. I called again on Friday and again got the answering service, no one called back. I called on Monday and spoke to the office and told the woman who answered the phone why I was calling in detail. She told me that she would speak to the owner and he would get back to me. He never called. I called again two days later and again, I was told that I would need to speak to the owner, but that he was not available, when I pursued the issue, she hung up on me. As of today, 12/11/2018, no one has rescheduled the plumber or responded to my concerns.

I called Friday after our big snow with problems of our tankless water heater not heating water. They were able to dispatch someone that day for an evening service. I agreed to an $89.95 service charge for no repairs or repair charges deal. The technician charged me an $185 service call charge plus $100 labor for de-thawing a drain line that had frozen. I called their office a few days later to get an explanation for these charges. She told me that the technician can charge me what he wants and that the bill can't be changed. I don't like surprises and won't call Blessings again.

Scheduling the repair work with Blessings Plumbing was easy and convenient. Scott arrived promptly on time the day the work was scheduled. The floor was covered prior to the repair work. Hot and cold water enter the house through the concrete slab foundation and are routed from there throughout the single story house. The repair work was extensive and very precise due to tight space around the original supply lines. Scott tested the new lines for integrity when he finished and completely cleaned the work area. The new PEX piping looks nice and sturdy, and the all the stressed junctions that existed with the original quest piping are all gone. Scott also cleaned up the water supply to the toilet in our guest bedroom (adjacent to the dining room wall) and that line looks so much better and way more secure. We will use Blessings Plumbing for all future plumbing needs.

Best to divide the review into two parts between the first plumber and the 2nd plumber that saved the day (and this review). Called to replace leaking faucet in bathroom sink and stop dripping outside faucet by replacing old washer. First plumber shows up and quotes $150 an hour. He departs to get a new faucet, returns, removes the sink, discovers rusted out sink trap and two hours later tells me "you have a problem". I guess if I'm paying you $150 an hour it is "we have a problem" but he says the new fixture will not fit through the hole of the sink basin. He then tells me he has to call his boss but he has another job he is scheduled for, so I'm looking at a ripped out sink before the long weekend. Throughout this whole ordeal I don't think he realized that before choosing the new fixture and ripping out the sink basin he should have measured the hole circumference...... Anyway, I call up Mr. Blessing and his responsiveness saved the day and allows this review to go from F to B and rates of A's in the other areas. I was told another plumber would be out as soon as possible. In the meantime I ask the original plumber to at least attend the easy outside faucet task by replacing the old washer. He cuts the water off, does the job and then goes out to wait for the new plumber without restoring the water. About 45 minutes later, I have to go out and ask him if he's done then he restores water. I look, no more drip, but it is not until a couple of days later when I try to attach a hose and notice a steady leak. Long story short the threads of the faucet had a cut through it, ruining the whole faucet. Basically, everything the guy touched was a disaster. New plumber shows up, reviews the job, and does the job right, going out of his way to ensure the right materials, etc. First plumber deserves all F's but have to give Blessing Plumbing good grades overall for taking care of the job and handling it the right way. Called again after discovering the cut in the threading of the outside faucet and Blessing Plumbing was responsive to that issue also.
Description of Work: Remove then install new faucet, new sink trap, and ruin outside faucet.

I called this company about 2-3 weeks ago and spoke to a woman who answered the phone to address my call. I explained to her that I need my house re-piped and drywalled and wanted to know if they could do an "all-in-one" service for me. She said yes and that she would have someone return my call. She didn't sound all that enthusiastic about her job or helping me, but I digressed. I waited for a week and never received such a call. So I called them again a second time. The same lady answered the phone and I explained to her that I hadn't received a call from anyone since I last called. She just took my information all over again as if it was the very first and only time that I had ever called and said that someone will give me a call. Well someone did finally call me the next day on March 2nd and asked when they could schedule a visit. I told the man that I am normally available after 3pm during the week, but I would be available on Wednesday, March 4th at anytime. He said that he would CALL me Wednesday morning at 8am to SCHEDULE a visit! WHHHAAAATTTT????!!!! I thought that was so stupid, a wasted of time, pointless, and made absolutely no sense to me that he just wanted to CALL me to SCHEDULE a visit. We were already on the phone and I thought that was the point of the current phone call. So I went along with it and agreed to wait on his call TWO days later just to schedule a future visit. Wednesday morning came and so did 8am, but no phone call....EVER!!! I don't believe in begging a company for THEIR business, so I won't! This is a clear indication and warning for me to just stay clear!

Used Blessings Plumbing to reset the pressure switch in my jetted tub. The switch was covered up with tile and not assessable. Robert, the very friendly technician plumber, was determined to cut out only the tiles needed to get to the switch. After removing the tiles, he noticed he needed to replace a vacuum hose. He was knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Although I highly recommend Blessings Plumbing and would definitely use them again for their prompt service and knowledge of all plumbing services I thought the price was a bit high.

They were outstanding. They were right on time. I called them on Monday and they came yesterday, so it was a really short turnaround time. By mistake, I happened to call the owner’s cell phone rather than the office and he called me back to make sure that I didn’t need anything and told me to feel free to call his cell anytime. I thought that was outstanding. The owner called me right back and asked me to call him anytime if there is anything I need. The guy who came out was very professional and answered all my questions. He presented me with two different options, one of which would have been cheaper but I decided to just replace everything just to have it done. But he did offer me more than one option as to try to save me some money, which was nice. They were great, and I will use them for anything that I need plumbing-wise.

When I opened up the wall, it looked like a previous owner had decided to save some money and plumbed the winterizing valves for the outdoor shower himself, but left the drain valves inside the wall. I could see the water stains. And I needed to add a washer and dryer to the space, but there was already a drain for the upper floors and a sink in the way. I was going to have to put a lot of plumbing in a small space, and realized the job was a lot more complicated than I initially thought. Also, in this project, I needed to add a sink and wall mounted faucet. I took three bids; Craig Blessing was the most knowledgeable of the three plumbers who came. When the job was done, they had accomplished everything I needed, and a few things I hadn't thought of, such as moving all the plumbing away from the exterior wall to prevent freezing and insulating all the pipes. I would definitely hire them again.

These folks are fabulous. I was moving back into an old condo unit where the old washing machine had just broken down. I purchased a new one from a local national household chain store and the guys who delivered it sadly did not know enough about plumbing to realize that the knob/fixture for the water pipe to the washing machine was partially broken. In the process of disconnecting my old washing machine, the knob/fixture fully came off and water spouted up and we had an ocean in my laundry room and kitchen before I could figure out where the water shut off was. I called Blessings Plumbing, spoke to an extremely pleasant lady who took my message and the issue I had and she said someone would be calling me back shortly. I received a call back from her within 30 mins, she told me Matt was coming over to take a look at everything, Matt came knocking on our door within 45 mins to an hour and had everything he needed in his truck to fix our pipe. He even helped my husband move the new washing machine into place and hooked it up for us... all at a more than reasonable price considering it was an emergency service call. Matt was professional and kind -- he saved the day!! Yayyyy Matt!! If I need ANY kind of plumbing in the future, Blessings Plumbing will be getting my business.
Description of Work: The gentleman (Matt) who came out fixed the broken water pipe that was the water line to my washing machine. He also helped move my new and just delivered washing machine into place and hooked it up for us.

They came out but didn't do the work right away as the plumber said he had to get the price from the office. They said the leak was in the sink in the bathroom and that the hot water heater needed replacing. My Cousin also had a insurance policy with Dominion Power which would replace the hot water heater. They came out and said it didn't need replacing and that the leak came from a pipe going to the unit. I think the bill is too high and they wanted to also charge me an additional $85 for coming back out. I just had some work done at our farm in NC and the cost for replacing 4 frozen pipes was under $200. Also, the bill wasn't broken down into time and materials.
Description of Work: The plumber from Blessing came back out and fixed the sink as well as the copper tubing to the hot water heater.

Response from Blessings Plumbing, Inc.
This letter is in response to the recent corespondence sent to Blessings Plumbing by you. We always welcome feedback whether it is good, bad or indifferent. First of all I want to thank you for calling us by referral from Angie's list. I am truly sorry that you have lost faith in Angie's list as you stated in a personal letter sent to our company. Did you know that we were voted again by our customers of being in the top 5% of the best plumbers in this area to do buisness with? So let's set the record straight! You called us out to look for a leak around the water heater on Jan. 14, 2014. You were told, at the time, about our dispatch fee of of $87.50. The fee includes the drive time out to look at the job and quote you a price prior to ANY work being done. Your response to the dispatch fee was: "That would be fine". You also told us NOT to do any work until a price was quoted to you first. One of our plumbers was dispatched to the job in Chesapeake and he was there from 12-1 PM. He examined everything that you asked him to and found a rusty and leaking pop-up assembly on a sink. He also noticed water on and around the water heater. As per your instruction, he tried calling you to give you a price on the work that needed to be done, but you never answered the phone nor did you return his call that day. He was instructed to proceed to other customers that were scheduled to have work done that day. When you did call us back the following day we quoted you a price on the pop-up assembly on the drain also which you agreed to. We could not give you a quote on the water heater leak because the leak was not visible when we Erie there on the 14th of January. My plumber (recommended) that because of the age of the water heater that maybe you should consider replacing it. You said to me, that because you have a contract with Dominion Power that they should send their people out to look at it. We scheduled with you on a Friday Jan. 17, 2014 to return to change out the pop up assembly. When our plumber did show up he did find a leak on the water line behind the water heater. He tried calling you to give you a quote, but once again you never answered your phone nor returned his call. He called the shop and asked what to do. I told him to go ahead and fix the leak because he was already there. If I knew that I was going to be accused by you of being "ripped off" then I would have just let it leak! And you forgot to mention in your write up to let Angie's List know that you held our money for over a month. We called you repeatedly, and when you finally did call us back you told our office manager that you you did not like the price, and let's not forget you agreed to the price before the work was done. We are a C.O.D not a bill out company. We expected to get payment when the job was completed, not a month later. And the reason we did get paid is because if we didn't waive the dispatch fee then you would have held our money longer. Just because you plumber in NC charged you $75.00 an hour as you indicated in your letter to us to fix your frozen pipes does not set the trend of what to charge and what is a fair price! We charge by the job NOT the hour, so there is no breakdown after the fact. I stand by our pricing because we have thousands of loyal customers who tell us so, who calls us back time and time again for more than 20 years. We were there for you when you called, we showed up on time as promised. Next time maybe you should call the plumber up from North Carolina to come here for you for $75.00 an hour. So get your story right next time and tell the truth! I will be forwarding on your letter you sent us to Angie's List for the record!
