Ashton Landscaping is a full service landscaping design company located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, specializing in all aspects of residential and commercial landscaping. Whether you’ve just bought a new home and need a complete design and installation or if you are simply ready to make a renovation to your existing yard, we can help to make your dream a reality.
This has been a very negative experience. From the start, I ensured Ashton could do as desired BEFORE signing contract. Despite in-person, and phone discussions emphasizing customer specification, lawn was not cut as discussed. After pointing this out, service was better one time, but then lapsed again. Weeds are not controlled whatsoever, despite pointing it out. Lawn is cut uneven with depressions from heavy machinery. The biggest negative item I really have is the communication and attitude toward the customer. Despite discussing, almost nothing changes. The owner/mgmt’s lack of response to an email and formal letter speaks volumes. The same sales rep writes “sorry, you are in a contract” assigning blame to the customer, not the fact that Ashton has not delivered services as outlined on paper, or flatly not as specified by me the customer. Would 100% never use them again, this has been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had with a business.
Description of Work: Lawn care service. Marketed and advertised to cut lawn to customer specification, trimming, lawn applications to include weed treatments, weed treatment enhancer, and fertilizer.

I would not recommend this company. I requested a quote on sod and some work on my beds. The quote was bloated (even after the budget was explained) and the rendering was unusable. Wasted $250. I made multiple calls to work this out but they were not very responsive to calls. The staff are pretty skilled at misdirection and delays. I like local and support them when I can but I would not recommend this one. They did not earn my business or my recommendation.

They did a good service most of the time and it was expensive. They require you to have a contract which I didn't like. They had a high cost of shrub trimming.

Description of Work: Removed all front-yard landscaping and installed sod, mulch, shrubs, flowers, drains and stone borders around the beds. Removed concrete walkway and installed a paver walkway from driveway to front door. They also installed new sprinkler system. | |I contacted them in March 2014 and the work was completed late June 2014. The actual project took 2 weeks to complete. The grass looks good and they did a beautiful job on the paver walkway. The shrubs and flowers are trying to flourish after the hard winter, but they are starting to fill in. As another reviewer mentioned, I also don't think they build in any rain days into their calendar. The job was originally supposed to be complete prior to June 1. I was leaving to go on vacation and needed the work completed before I left. The work ended up getting done while we were gone. We had to have a friend open our garage, answer questions, etc. I was not happy about that at all. | |Since I was pleased with the paver walkway, I contacted them again this April to get an estimate for a new paver patio in the backyard and to look at some plants that had died. The earliest appointment I could get was 6 weeks out and I was told over the phone I wouldn't be able to get on the schedule until August for the patio. I ended up using another landscaper to do the back patio(which was complete 2 weeks before Ashton could even stop by the house). He did replace the dead plants at no charge. | |I would use them again, but plan at least 6 months out if you would like something done in the April-August timeframe and be prepared for the hard sell of yard maintenance services after your project is complete.

So far so good. Very very professional and they have many options to include the care and feeding of my flower beds. So far I have no complaints of all that they have done. They are punctual and courteous. They also leave a note after every mowing to point out any concerns such as over watering or bluegrass issues. I have a couple of friends that use them and that is why I decided to go this route. They came highly recommended and I have no complaints!!
Description of Work: I signed a yearly agreement for reoccurring services for my lawn care. Mowing, edging, weeding, etc..

The inital consultation with Chip was great. He came up with a new landscaping design that was very professionally done and given to me as a large printout - much nicer than the other companies I had estimates from. There were delays in the estimated start date - but that is to be expected with a landscaping job - it is very dependent on the weather and other circumstances. I was actually out of town on the initial estimated job start date - so that was rescheduled because of myself. While they did reschedule a few times, I was usually notified by email or phone the Friday or evening before. They job did take longer than expected. There were days there were only 2 or 3 employees working and we had two days washed out by torrential rains, both leading to the delay in completion. But I mean - hey, who's going to rush something after it's started - definitely not me. The finished product is great. Chip is a pleasure to work with. He has replaced a few perrenials that didn't make it through the transplant. We do have a few bushes that don't look the best, it was hot when they were planted. He has come out and looked at those. We will see how they recover this fall and how they look next spring. There is a one-year guarantee on the plants. I would recommend Ashton landscaping and would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Landscaping design. Replaced exisasting beds in the front, and placed new beds throughout the front and back yards. In the process had to also relocate existing sprinklerheads. Bed prep included killing the grass, tilling, adding compost and edging. Mant plants and trees were installed. Also had some flagstone laid down in an area to place my grill. Beds included both mulch and chalet stone components, as well as a few boulders. Trees staked and plants fertilized.

Completely satisfied with all work Ashton Landscaping has done for me.
Description of Work: I have been using Ashton now for a few years. They are very professional, responsible, and neat. They are also very knowledgeable about plants, trees, flowers, etc. I have been very pleased by every project they have done for me. Yes, there were at times some rain delays, but that comes with the nature of the business. The workers are thorough and responsive to me questions. While they are certainly not the cheapest game in town, I have learned over many years that when it comes to landscaping work, you get what you pay for. Their prices are not at all unreasonable. They also have gone the extra mile for me - on two occasions when I was out of town during hurricanes/nor'easters they went by my house after the storm and checked for damage and the need for clean up. The ability to email them is very helpful to me and when I have had a question or issue, I always got a prompt response. I highly recommend Ashton Landscaping.

I contracted Ashton Landscaping to re-sod my back yard. they came promptly for the quote and worked with me a bit to negotiate a little ($200) better price. Seemed like a good sign. The quote was $2300, which for me, was A LOT of money. It was kind of down hill from there. I signed the contract with Ashton on March 30. This was going to be a TWO DAY JOB. Today is May 18, and i'm still not 100% satisfied, but just sick of asking that things get re done. they came and sprayed the yard to kill weeds/grass and 10 days later, they had to come back for a 2nd round. I explained to them that I was leaving for vacation on 4/27 and wanted to have the job completed before then. They said that wouldn't be a problem. The appointment to come and pull up the old grass and spread the new soil was delayed for weather, but also because the good weather didn't mesh with other jobs they had scheduled. they finally spread the new soil on 4/25 and assured me that they would be finished the next day, ONE day before I was leaving for a week. Guess what. They ran out of sod on the 26th and couldn't finish until the next day, when I was gone. They were to check the sprinklers to make sure that everything was covered since I was not there to take care of it myself. Upon my return (May 5th) there were not only several BROWN areas where the sprinklers had not hit, there were big patches where no grass was laid, the sod had been laid in rows without staggering the seams, there were large gaps in the seams and the edging around patios, flower beds etc., was just plain sloppy. The communication was terrible. I called to complain, they sent someone out to adjust the sprinkler. He said the brown areas would "green up" 2 weeks later and they have not. The man to come and see what my issues were with the sod was scheduled at 11 am, i was told he would be a little late, never showed up, never called. after 2 days I called again. the same guy that did my estimate came out and agreed that it wasn't acceptable and would have someone scheduled to come out and 'fix' it. That was supposed to happen on May 11,but guess what? no show, no call again. by this time I sent an email stating my dissatisfaction. I finally got the boss' cell phone number (the girl in the office is very sweet, but don't think she has much influence other than passing messages). I told him that I expected him to be here for this grand "fixing" event, but guess what? just two guys. They did a 'fair' job with the edging, but as far as the patches? they used pieces that were cut from the edging to throw in the gaps!!! no compost underneath, no new sod to cut. In fact, I had sprayed where the edging needed to be done and could see the paint on the grass they used to patch up the holes. These 'patches' are already turning yellow, and I do not intend to pay my balance until i am satisfied with this work. What a disappointment. They had done a beautiful job on a house around the corner, but I feel that since I wasn't spending tens of thousands of dollars, that I just got whatever they happened to have left over.
Description of Work: DO have scheduled dates and rain dates written into your contract with $$ off for no shows.DO make sure you are there to inspect before they leave the job site.DO NOT pay in full until the job is done to your satisfaction.
