I had called several plumbing services on Angie's List, but American Mechanical was the one that agreed to take the job. I've lived in this house since '02, and it was built in 1928. I've never had a problem with the lines insidie the house-until now. The Service Tech who came out was Ike, and he came out earlier than expected-which I appreciated. He listened to my description of the problem, and then went out to take a look in the crawl space. After seeing how the plumbing lines were laid out, and where the main sewer line was, he brought in a good sized plumbing snake. The shower drain wasn't large enough, so he had to pull the toilet and used that pipe to snake the line. The problem turned out to be roots in the main line-under my house. He snaked the line about 4 times, and flushed the system (kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower and toilet) to make sure the clog was free and water was not going to back up. Ike was very personable, very professional and very thorough. I would definitely use American Mechanical again-they did a great job. The one small detractor to this story-is the scheduler. I'm sure she's a nice lady, and I'm sure she has a busy job handling a lot of calls. But I had called the morning of the service to remind them to call me at work when the tech was en route, so I could be at the house when he got there. I discovered that they had scheduled me for the afternoon, and I asked if there was any way to bump to a morning appointment. I was transferred to Liz, explained the situation and asked if she could move me up in the schedule. She responded with "I'll see what I can do to move you up...", and then hung up. When someone says something like that to me-I expect that they're going to look at the schedule, and they're going to come right back and tell me whether they can accomodate my request or not. I do not expect to be brushed off by the scheduler. I called back and asked to speak with her, but she was on another line; I was told they would ask her to call me back. She didnt', but the tech came out about an hour later--earlier than I had been expecting at that point. I'll use them again, but the next time I talk to Liz I'll be very specific about what I'm looking for before I let her hang up. UPDATE: As it turns out--while Ike did pull up a small chunk of roots--he didn't get the entire chunk. I'm not sure he snaked out to the city line-Ike got a small chunk of roots (loose roots about the size of a baseball) at about the 32' mark in the line. The day after American Mechanical was out--my crawlspace flooded--again. I had to call another company, and they found about an 18" lenght of roots that literally blocked the line-about 42' into the pipe. In all fairness-Ike and the company recommended that I have the line scoped--I declined because there was an additional charge associated with using the scope. I thought if they snaked the line all the way to the city line it would clear the problem. Somehow the chunk of roots was missed, and my flooding problem was not resolved.

It went very well! They were prompt, professional, and reliable.

Work crew showed up on time. Installation took 2 days. Steve and the crew were very professional. There were two problems which were promptly corrected. The gas company inspector rejected the installation because an additional union had been omitted. Lou promptly addressed this issue. In addition, there was a misunderstanding concerning the backfill of the trench and landscaping. After discussing this concern with Lou, it was immediately corrected. Steve provided clear and precise owner directions. All's well that ends well! Everything considered, I would do business with them again.

Each time I contacted the company, they were always polite. Once I figure out what I am going to do, I would consider using them in the future.

They were punctual and handled the situation quickly.

We had 2 problems with this provider. A thermostat was broken at one of our shop. We asked for them to come out and give us a quote and change if necessary. They did come out, same day, but I got busy and when I came back he was replacing the unit with no quote. It was much more than I thought. Second incident - The provider was under contract to change the filters and check the unit for a commercial service. After discontinuing the service we began to change the filters ourselves. What we found were the filters that were easy to get to were changed, the second unit that was difficult to get to, were not. They had to have known about the second set because they worked on something nearby. This contributed to our shop being much colder than necessary due to the filters never being changed as the unit was very clogged. A spray to clean the coils was left there as well as 2 unused filters. We changed the filters and saved them to show the company. I called them and explained what I had found and asked them for a partial refund since it had not been done properly and was told, no. They believed their tech who had taken notes. I asked them the brand of filter they used, which they didn't know, and asked them the size used. The size they gave me was not the size of the filters for the second unit which confirmed that they did not do the job properly. I asked again for a resolution and was told, no.

I replaced the parts myself.

They performed an inspection of an area inside my condo & could not find the leak. They referred me to a specialist company who found the leak on the exterior of the condo. I then had American Mechanical back out to perform the repair. They came out in the morning and finished the service by that afternoon. I had also gotten other quotes on the service and theirs was by far the best.

What I wanted them to do was a bigger job than what they could accomplish in the allotted time but the guy who came out was extremely courteous and he answered all my questions. I was very very pleased with him. He was very prompt. The lady in his office contacted me and I got that one set up because of that.

They were punctual and very courteous. They even checked a couple other outlets for me while they were at my house. I will definitely use them for my electrical needs in the future.

The repair was in rental property so Chuck called and said he would meet us there - he was exactly on time. The toilet in the master bathroom was acting strange, sometimes it would flush correctly, sometimes hardly at all. Chuck worked on it for a few minutes and told us there was calcium buidlup -- for a 35+ year old toilet that was understandable. He suggested that we could save money by buying a toilet ourselves and he would install. The next day we met him at the house with the new toilet and he installed it in about an hour! Everything worked great, he cleaned up everything and when he left the only way you could tell he had been there was that there was a new, working toilet in the master bath. Chuck did an excellent job, price was right and we will certainly use American Mechanical in the future.

We wanted a company that could provide servicing for our HVAC system as well as our new home generator and American Mechanical fit the bill. Chris came out and thoroughly inspected everything, took his time and didn't rush. He also didn't try to sell me on something I didn't need, which is unusual these days. Chris was professional, respectful, knowledgeable and a heck of a nice guy. I will definitely continue using them for our yearly maintenance and any repairs we may need down the line.

Very good work, showed up as promised, ready to go to work and took care of our problems. He had a recommendation for the outdoor system that he could not address and I followed it and was very satisfied.

I bought the Angie's List special. I needed a dishwasher installed and I figured that is a job that should only take an hour to install so I called them for that. I was surprised that the Angie's List special was only for a diagnosis. I thought it was for actual service. They called me and gave me a price to install the dishwasher. What they do is take the Angie's List Coupon off the cost of their normal service so no real savings there. Quality of work was good. Over a month later, no leaks, no problems. I liked the work, it's just not what I was expecting as far as the Big Deal goes.

Figuring out what was causing the problem took over two hours. The electrician was courteous, professional and thorough. He fixed all of the plugs that had not been working. I also had him check the circuit box for the hot tub. He determined that it should work properly, however, the hot tub was no longer working so he could not do a complete check.

Chris arrived on time and was very professional. While maintenance contracts in Hampton Roads tend to be expensive, American Mechanical provided fair discounts for bundling two A/C units and a home generator. The maintenance took slightly longer than planned since Chris found the upstairs A/C unit had never been serviced and was leaking. His knowledge of the systems and what was needed to keep them operating efficiently appeared better than several other venders I have used in the past. Overall this was an excellent experience.

American Mechanical arrived on time, drained the old heater, removed it from our 2nd floor attic, and replaced it with a new water heater in less than three hours. The diagnostic fee was subtracted from the total cost, and Chuck assisted me in finding the current discount coupon.

It went well, though longer than expected as it took some time to locate the entry point. The gentlemen did a great job in locating though as it was not easy at all and he wanted to do so without digging everything up. Very professional, very knowledgable, friendly and informative. Very willing to answer my questions. Professional team.

I received a deal for 49.00 on Angies List. They called promptly and scheduled a day to come out. He checked a few outlets for me and replaced a couple of them and looked at other work I wanted done. The estimate for the other work was just more than I could manage for now, but they were very customer friendly and I would use them again.

I purchased a special through Angie's List for 30 min of labor. My tenant had received an excessively high water bill and we were trying to find the cause. The technician came out within the time window provided, and the office called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way and what his name was. He checked the meter, checked all plumbing, and only found a small drip at outdoor faucet. He told me it was probably just a washer that needed changing and said he could fix it, but would have to charge extra. It would be easy to do myself. He had a chance to really gouge me with a huge repair. Extremely honest and helpful! I would absolutely use them again. Scheduled an HVAC guy to come out that same day. Wish I had gone with American Mechanical instead!

Fixed the problem (leak in hose) but excessive charge. Two days after service, the kitchen faucet will not spray. They did return but said it was not their fault and to contact Grohe.

We think that they were a really good company. They do a lot of different things; we used them for electrical and plumbing. We have used them a number of times and we had a couple of things that needed to be looked at before the house went on the market. They are really good about explaining what they are doing and why they are doing it. They are very prompt and they are just a good company to work with. Their prices are very good. I will definitely use them again.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and they were good. They came out right according to our schedule. They are excellent.

After purchasing the Angie's Big Deal I was contacted by the scheduler for American Mechanical on Sept 17. She promptly and courteously scheduled the date for the laundry drain cleaning. On 19 Sept the American Mechanical technician (Joel) arrived in a timely and presentable fashion and immediately set about the task at hand. Subsequent to this effort we discussed the non-compliant laundry discharge tube size and discussed options for repair/replacement, and the replacement of two adjacent water valves. the drain repair/replacement and water valve replacement were scheduled for 24 Sept at an over and above cost of $375, considered by me to be a fair and reasonable cost. The American Mechanical technician (Joel) arrived at the agreed upon time and corrected the drain/laundry discharge tube and replaced the two water valves. Bottom line: I was well pleased with American Mechanical and their technician Joel.
