Description of Work: A crew of four packers arrived on time with packing materials to pack out a 2100 sq ft house. They worked quickly and professionally and completed the pack out by about 2:00 pm. The next day the crew loaded a 40' truck, drove about 32 miles to the new address and unloaded the truck. Not all of the load fit on the truck so the following morning the crew finished the job by about noon. A large picture was left on the wall but that was the only issue with the move.

Each crew member introduced themselves by name when they arrived, which I appreciated, Since we were on a tight schedule, they had 7 (yes seven!) crew members on the second day to get the trucks loaded and finish the remaining packing. They delivered the same afternoon (85 miles away), in the rain. The upholstered furniture had been "shrink wrapped" so it stayed dry. There was no damage to anything. I highly recommend Absolute Moving and would not hesitate to use them again.

+ -1 moreI sent the following Angie's List email inquiry on 4 May 2012: "Hello - I'm getting estimates for moving my disabled daughter and her family from a 3 BR apt in Norfolk to a 2BR+loft townhouse in the Ocean Lakes area of VB. Desire separate estimate for packing, which will be a fairly small amount of kitchen (no appliances), three beds (king, queen, twin); some LR/DR furniture; toddler/infant gear/toys (incl crib), and clothing in dressers and closets (i.e., lots is conducive to using your wardrobes just for transport). Move needed before Memorial Day weekend. Thanks for your feedback -" I have not heard anything back as of 5 days later and must find other potential providers. Lack of the courtesy of a response troubling.

+ -1 moreI have nothing but good thing to say about Absolute Moving. We've had one really hellish experience with a moving company--Brinks in Florida (surely they've changed their name at least three times by now)--and we know how that sort of thing goes down: they change the moving date at the last moment; they arrive late (12 hours late in the case of Brinks); then, once they get all your things on the truck, they jack up the price; also (esp. if it's an interstate move) they don't deliver your stuff until the statutory 27 days have passed. Absolute was the opposite of that experience. Two friendly guys did the estimate, and assured me they wouldn't change the date or change the price a penny, and they didn't. Oh, another thing about bad moving companies: they show up with only a couple of guys, who then take a really, really long time to load and unload everything, and generally damage both furniture and walls because they're understaffed to handle the heavy stuff. Absolute Moving showed up with FIVE guys, every one of them professional and polite, and accomplished the whole move (from Norfolk to Portsmouth) in about six hours. When I'd make special requests--e.g., ask them to move a heavy piece of furniture to different parts of the room before I made a final decision as to placement--they gladly obliged. They asked me again and again where (what room) I preferred certain boxes to be taken, and every step of the way proceeded with my best interests in mind. A big move is an incredibly stressful ordeal under the best of circumstances, but Absolute relieved a lot of the stress for us. Highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Absolute Moving provided an estimate, stuck to it, showed up exactly on time, and moved the contents of our house from Norfolk to Portsmouth.

I could not be more pleased with their work. They ended up going a little over in the time allotted, but they did cut me a deal on the price. I would use them again in the future.

Description of Work: This company loaded my prepacked boxes and furniture for a move from Virginia Beach to Chantilly VA. I had a number of problems with their service. First, they scheduled the move wrong. I specifically told them a time and day and received an ok from one of their mangers. I called a few days prior to the move to confirm that everything was on target and found that they had the wrong date scheduled. They eventually fixed the schedule, but if I hadn't called, they would have come on the wrong day. They knew that I was scheduled to leave Virginia Beach after lunch and at the time I made the appointment, they said that everything would be packed and ready to travel before my departure time. They did not keep any of their promises. They were late the morning of the move and brought a single truck that was too small. By the time lunch arrived, the first truck was packed and we were waiting on a second truck. And we waited, and we waited. By late afternoon it had not arrived. The lead mover first suggested that I leave them with my personal property with them, they would finish the packing when the second truck arrived and lock up my house. I said that I would not leave till all my property was packed on the truck. After waiting a few hours, the lead mover asked if they could lock up what was left of my unpacked items in my garage, leave the back door open, and come back for it later. I said NO! Eventually it got so late that a friend of mine offered to watch my items till they were packed so that I could get on the road. They arrived on time to unload my property in Chantilly and had 3 men instead of just two. But, one of the men had a stomach bug and spent the entire time either laying in the truck or using my restroom. Evidently this wasn't the first time the sick mover had been sick from the comments his co-workers made. They moved my furniture in fine but a peice of exercise equipment was broken and due to the co-pay on their insurance coverage, it wouldn't be covered. Also, they broke one of the spokes on the stairway railing. They didn't tell me about it, I found the spoke broken after they left. I knew it hadn't been broken before they came because I had to inspect my new home before moving in. I would not recommend them. They do not do quality work.

The staff was very professional meaning the movers and if I remember the gentleman that worked with me on price etc was Gerard. They offer a military discount which helped and walked me through every step. They were punctual and polite. Would definitely recommend them to anyone and they deserve an "A"
Description of Work: Absolute helped me move from my apartment to a house I was moving to. They provided boxes, wrapping paper, tape etc to start and told up front how much it would cost if I used all of it or only part of it. They moved five rooms with ease.

+ -1 moreThe truck was too small for the job. They told me they would be bringing two trucks but when the second one didn't come to the job I asked why not. The truck was out of commission due to a fuel tank issue. I told them immediately their truck was too small but since we were on fixed pricing I had a bit more flexibility. It took three trips to get the move accomplished and the last trip went into the next day plus they called to say they couldn't do it when they initially said on the second day because they had a move scheduled earlier in the day. All that aside, the men were curtious, friendly and helped with setting up the furniture unlike other movers I've had in the past. They did break a piece of furniture and are slow to respond to getting it fixed or reaching a settlement.

+ -1 moreOur best moving experience ever. We've had several corporate moves with the big-name moving companies, but we were funding this one ourselves and took pains with our selection. We had 5 companies in to bid, including Absolute based on the Angie's List recommendations. Rick and his partner came to the house personally to do the estimate, and convinced us that they had a team that would take the kind of care for our things we were looking for. We had a budget to meet, and Rick encouraged us to do much of the packing to save $ and leave just the specialty items for them - this was a great move. He also recommended the best place to buy boxes, etc and gave other helpful hints. We had to shuffle the dates a couple of times to settle on a mutually acceptable schedule, but that too went smoothly. Mark headed up the team that did the move-out, and we could not have been more pleased with their work. They properly wrapped and padded all of our furniture, including dis-assembly where appropriate. They took extra care with our nice pieces and mirrors, etc. We had several bulky and very heavy items that they got out of the house through tight squeezes with no significant damage to the doorways and walls - very nice! Every one of the team members were courteous and spoke / joked with us during the move, which was a nice change from the surly attitudes we'd experienced on other moves. Mark and the move-in team arrived at our new home right on time two days later, and got all done and assembled on time and in good order. There was one nice table that had one end damaged during the move, and Mark promised to take it back with him and get it taken care of. We had little hope that it would ever be the same and wondered how Rick would work it out. I'm delighted to report that we just unpacked the repaired table that they delivered two weeks later, and it looks like new! In summary, Rick, Mark and team delivered the best moving experience we've had, including the way they dealt with the damage that can happen on a big move. I recommend them without hesitation to anyone needing the highest level of service at a fair price.

+ -1 moreRick came to our house promptly, looked over our belongings, gave us a price, told us how many boxes and what sizes we'd need, and set a date for our move. We bought the boxes, packed them, the movers showed up on time and went right to work hauling our stuff out of our former home to their trucks, broke for lunch, met us at our new home, and moved our stuff into the new home, placing it where we wanted it. Everything basically went OK except that a beveled-glass table top got broken by the movers, and an antique rocker got pretty scarred up. The mover who packed the glass table top told us it was his fault and that the company would replace the glass "within just a few days." We waited nearly a week and wound up calling the owner, Rick, who claimed no knowledge of the breakage. He tracked down the responsible employee and told us that he would see that the glass was replaced in a few days. It took more than a few days, and a few phone calls but the glass was replaced to our satisfaction. As for the rocker, I think I can make the necessary repair without too much of a problem. All in all, I think things went pretty well, except for having to press for the replacement of the glass.

They arrived on time, were courteous and professional and seemed concerned that I was happy with my move. I would definitely use them again.

He was sensitive to our antiques and quality furniture and promised to take good care of our possessions. The movers arrived promptly, padded and wrapped our best pieces, and were a pleasure to work with. We were pleased with the quality of the work. The men were a pleasure to have in our home. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Absolute Movers provided an accurate estimate, moved our precious things from Virginia Beach to North Carolina. It was a small shipment, but had to be delivered to three destinations in our new home town.

+ -1 moreWe called the owner a few weeks before the move and he came the same day to give us an estimate. He told us that he has a steady group of people who work for him and that he does not sub contract. We agreed on the price and the date. He also offered to move our playset for $200 dollars less than the playset company. As it turns out, the playset company stood us up and he was willing to work with us for the same price later. He also gave us a $100 dollar discount since the owner of the house we were moving to also used the same company (they also had good experiences with them) We have had bad experiences with movers: not enough men, surly an uncooperative behavior, refusal to put boxes in rooms in the new house, coming late, not having enough men, complaining about job/company, charging extra on the spot for extra men etc: so we were forthright and we found the owner reassuring and experienced. Some huge pluses: 1) Came on time with enough men (6). They had loaded up by lunchtime and unloaded by the end of the day. 2) brought in a second truck because it was needed 3) were courteous and pleasant the entire day 4) were willing to go the extra mile--moving and removing treadmill, trying to get a big sofa to fit a narrow doorway, taking away old applainces and being friendly 5) moved playset to smaller yard and were willing to move and replace heavy playset till we were satisfied. 6) repaired the very few nicks they made in the wall--did not claim that they were already there.
Description of Work: Moved us 10 miles from our rental 5 bedroom home to our new 5 bedroom home. Dismantled and put up our daughter's Outback Woodplay playset. Broke down and put together treadmill,hooked up washer dryer and auled old ones away. Hooked second fridge in garage.

+ -1 moreWe had an estimate for the moving job and thought it was fair. After the estimate I called to secure the moving date. Just because I always over plan everything I called the Friday before the Monday move to make sure all was set up. I never got a call back so I did worry that they would show up. They did show up and right on time! The estimate was for more furniture then they actually moved. I asked if they could adjust the price to reflect the difference and one of the crew said they would call. When I asked again they said they could not get hold of anyone. It was a difference of 4 large items and I really did not move that many pieces of furniture. I did agree on that price so that is what I payed. I would recommend them and feel they did a good job.

+ -1 moreI was very pleased with the people, they were very friendly but also very professional. We enjoyed talking with them while they were working. I had grabbed water bottles for them while they were doing all the heavy work in the summer. I was disappointed about a couple of things that seemed kind of small. The beds in the second bedroom weren't put together properly. The foot board of the bed was put on upside down, then we discovered later that the drawer units had been put in upside down so we had to fix those things. They were fairly small things. Overall, we were very happy with the service and profesionalism.
Description of Work: Absolute Moving moved furniture and boxes from a 4 bedroom house into our 2 bedroom apartment. They assembled furniture for us, too.

+ -1 moreFirst of all, I was very, very impressed that the principals of the company personally visited our home to introduce themselves and give us an estimate. Nice guys and very professional. Because of weather we elected to push the date one week and they agreed...no problem. On moving day, an "army" of men showed up with two trucks. Having many, many hands made light work and we were very impressed with how polite and considerate each of the workers and their supervisor were. A very good experience.

They were very flexible when I had to postpone the move by a week. Team showed up first thing in the morning and went right to work. Furniture was hadled vey carefully. They worked quickly and carefully. Took a short break for lunch and right back to it. All four employees were very professional, very polite, willing to do what ever to help the move go smoothly, even moving things from one room to another. Finished slightly earlier than their estimate of time. Very impressed with the care they took with our furniture. Very flexible in meeting a changing timeline to accomodate weather and house completion. Very careful to not track dirt and mud in the house. A very good experience. Highly Recommend.

I called and spoke to them, then gave the contact information to my client. She set the whole thing up, then became very ill during the move. Afterward, she said the movers were "absolutely delightful" and very professional, helpful and thorough!! They went above and beyond to make sure that things went well (my client had to go to the hospital). She asked me to put a report in Angie's list for her. The price above is approximate. I can't remember the exact amount, except that we both thought it was very reasonable.
Description of Work: Moved contents of a 3 bedroom townhouse from Virginia Beach to Raleigh, NC. Packed, loaded, drove to NC, unloaded and set up. It should be noted that this townhouse was impeccably organized and ready to go.
