Vienna Appliance is a local family owned business that was built on the recommendations and referrals from our customers to their family, friends and neighbors. Our services are never contracted out to other companies and
we use only manufacturer recommended parts. Since we specifically work in the Northern Virginia area, we can often schedule appointments for the the same day.
Al the technician came to our home promptly as promised, and examined the washer. He recommended that it be repaired versus replaced, and we agreed. Al ordered the part, it came in the following week, and he came back to install it. The washer is working great now! Within a few days, our dryer stopped working. Al came back to look at it, helped us compare prices to repair or replace, and recommended a good brand when we opted to replace.
Description of Work: Both our aging washer and dryer needed service help within a couple of weeks in October 2017. Vienna Appliance has been our go-to company for almost 20 years, and they excelled again.

The pros Our stove broke on Thanksgiving. We called the day after when many appliance repair people would not take a call. They agreed to come that afternoon. The guy arrived during the time promised and charged us $85 saying the problem was with the ignition and gave us an estimate of $460 to fix it. They said it would take some time to order the necessary part For at least 3 days, we called them. Each time, we got vague answers and absolutely no indication they intended to return and fix anything. After that, we gave up, called Bray and Scarff instead. They couldn't come out the same day but did find the problem, and it was not the ignition. Bray and Scarff ordered the part and fixed the stove soon after. I don't think Vienna Appliance had any idea what they were doing and wanted to collect $85 for a misdiagnosis but not be held responsible when they couldn't actually fix it.

I wanted to love them, I really did. First, it was annoying that they didn't do a call-ahead like most service companies these days so I was tied to the house for the four-hour window a-la-1985. I was willing to overlook that in support of a neighborhood business. When he arrived, Al was so helpful and friendly that I really wanted to love this company. He seemed and quot;greenand quot; and not super familiar with my machine and problem (a lot of online research that frankly I could have done), but again, I wanted to support him figuring we all have to start somewhere. After over a week my washer was finally repaired. I was annoyed by the additional $150 I was being charged to service my washer since I have my front-loading washer and dryer stacked--especially since instead of making him bring a second person to help him un-stack and re-stack I offered to do that role myself. But when your washer is broken and laundry is piling up, beggars can't be choosers. Al was so nice that when he wasn't 100% sure the washer was fixed, we agreed to keep the pieces hooked up and un-stacked so I could run a few loads overnight and then he'd come back the next day to re-stack the appliances. Imagine my surprise the next day when I had a voicemail message, and two visits to the house (I was not home at the time) in pursuit of payment--BEFORE my washer and dryer were re-stacked together! When I spoke to Al on the phone and explained that I would not be paying until after they were re-stacked, he got angry, stating that and quot;technically his job is done because my washer is fixed.and quot; But and quot;technicallyand quot; he was charging me $150 for the stacked components, which he had not re-stacked. Al promptly came over and re-stacked the components, hostily took my payment and made clear how unhappy he was that I expected him to do this. Given that he was going to leave the job un-finished when seeking payment, I would never use this company again. In the past, I have used Home Appliance Repair on Church St. in Vienna. For those of you in the neighborhood looking for a local company, they are more professional and get the job done as promised. http://homeappliancerepair.us PS--Al would not provide an itemized work order that listed the cost of the part, repair and stacking fee. He was angry when I asked to write these numbers down.
Description of Work: Repaired front-loading washer that was stacked with dryer above it. Washer gave error code F20, the entire main computer portion of the washer had to be replaced.

Alan came from Vienna Appliances when he said he would. He was very nice, clean, professional, and competent. Replaced the motor in our relatively new refrigerator, and reassured us that it was cheaper than buying a new refrigerator. Had to order the motor but it came the next day, and Alan returned the next day, again when he said he would. He was very efficient and the whole repair job didn't take long. Will definitely used them again. Also the lady who takes your calls was very nice and helpful. Can't say enough good things about this company, so very glad to discover them through Angie's List!

My twenty-nine-year-old electric wall oven was heating very slowly. I called Vienna Appliances and said I needed a new heating element. Repairman came on time. He was neat, clean, polite and well-spoken. He did not reek of cigarette smoke. At first, he said the problem was not the heating element, because they either work or they don't....like light bulbs, he said. I thought, and quot;Oh no, he's going to tell me I need a new oven.and quot; But he checked everything, and finally said and quot;Yes, it is the heating element.and quot; He had the part, and replaced it easily, checked that it was working OK, and cleaned up.

Description of Work: My small 5 yr old Whirlpool fridge in the laundry room stopped cooling. Took the technician AL just a couple of minutes to tell me the compressor was 'shot.' Repair would be costly, like $400, and not worth the investment. I have been using Vienna Appliance Repair for many years, they are truly THE best. AL also gave me some great recommendations on what brands to buy and those not to buy. From my own experience, I won't buy another Whirlpool refrigerator considering the life expectancy of 5 years! Vienna Appliance is PROMPT-they call when they say they will call, and they give you a timeframe window of when they will show up. I've used them several times now, and everything has ALWAYS gone smoothly. Al is great, a really nice guy, and he knows his stuff and can fix the major appliances without too much trouble. I will continue to call on Vienna Appliance for my repairs, they may not be the least expensive in town, but they are RELIABLE and worth every penny.
Description of Work: My Whirlpool Duet washing machine was having some trouble getting through its washing cycles. I have used Vienna Appliance before, so I called for an appointment & Al came out for a look. He diagnosed the water pump problem within 10 minutes, and we discussed replacement costs so I could evaluate repair vs. replace, as the Duet is 10 years old. Replacing the water pump was cheaper, so Al ordered the part. He was back a few days later to replace the pump, and washer is working just fine now.

I have been very happy with the service provided by Al of Vienna Appliance for many years. He has always given me expert and honest advice about appliance repair: when to do it and sometimes when not to bother. His experience has been of great value in steering me toward certain replacement brands and models and away from others, generally keeping his visits to a minimum in an appliance laden home. I called yesterday because there were inches of water in my dishwasher that would not drain. Al was booked solid for two days but found a way to stop by and fix the dishwasher. He takes enormous pride in the work he does, with good reason. I can recommend Vienna Appliance for all kinds of repairs without hesitation based on more than 25 years of positive experiences. He diagnosed and repaired the dishwasher in one visit.

Our 14 year old Maytag top loading washing machine began to leak,. We called Vienna Appliances who sent an expert next day. He discovered that the main seal needed to be replaced. He described the options available i.e. a repair versus a new machine. He called to find out the availabilty of the replacement parts and its cost($400) which enabled us to make our decision on the spot. He explained that the washing machine was otherwise in excellent shape. We opted for the repair which was carried out 4 days later( Thanksgiving intervened) . It has since performed perfectly. A couple of weeks later the garbage disposal unit jammed. We called Vienna Appliances again and the same service guy came again either the same day or the next( I can't remember). He dismantled the unit and discovered a metal spoon jammed in the cutting blades. He freed the spoon and gave us the option of either reassembling the old unit or replacing it with a new one . Either way the labor costs were the same. We opted for a new one. He put a new one in on the spot and we were back in business. The whole experience was pretty painless if not without expense. The service man was cheerful and helpful throughout and left it to us to decide our options without any pressure from him. We wouldn't hesitate to call Vienna Appliances for any future problems with our appliances.

I am a long-time customer of Vienna Appliances and the first ones I call if something goes wrong. I called “after hours” on 7/5 and Al was at my house the next morning as promised. The heating element in my dryer had died and the leaking in my refrigerator was caused by a clogged “partand quot; on the back of the refrigerator. He unclogged it and told me to let them know if it still leaked. While there, he asked me how my washer was, as he had repaired it during the holidays, and I told him it had just started acting up again…not draining or spinning before ending the cycle. So, while he was ordering the heating element for my dryer, he ordered a new part for my washer at No Charge. Once the parts arrived (after the weekend), he immediately addressed the refrigerator which was still leaking, but to a lesser degree. He removed the back panel inside of the freezer, which was no small feat as the manufacturer hadn’t planned on having that opened, and found, as he had suspected, that the drip pan had rusted through and there was no way to repair it. However, if I had called when it first started leaking, I could’ve saved it; but I didn’t know better. However, the freezer/fridge works beautifully besides this and it’s easy enough to put a cloth under the vegetable bins to absorb until I get a new one. Within a few minutes, he had installed the new switch for my washer and the heating element for my dryer. There is no question in my mind as to the honesty and integrity of the people that make up this business and Vienna Appliance will remain my “go to” place when we need our appliances serviced.

This started out as a positive experience on the first visit to diagnose the problem. He spent a lot of time trying to find the model of my oven as it wasn't apparent anywhere in sight. I was pleased with how persistent he was in locating the model tag. He told me I needed a new oven computer and control pad. I don't know how he knew this since he didn't test anything electrically. When the parts came in and he returned to install them, he pulled out the computer processor and the keypad. He told me the keypad was the expensive item. I asked if we could test each piece one at a time. He immediately got defensive even though conversation beforehand was very pleasant. He started making excuses of how that would take too much time and it's not going to work anyway and he would have to charge me for the extra time. Finally after not coming up with a compelling argument why not to do it, he just said, 14 years of experience, that's why. A very dissatisfying statement. I persisted and he became very short with me for the rest of the visit. I felt like I was being sold hundreds of dollars worth of extra parts and couldn't do anything about it. I would recommend not using them.

We will NEVER use them again! Al came to look at our dryer and was nice at first, but as soon as we started asking questions, he got very defensive! My husband and I are educated people, so we always like to ask questions. It alerted us how defensive he got while we were just trying to understand the issue. Al told us it would be 4 days to get the part in, but during that 4-day period we decided to do the repair ourselves since the labor rate on Al's quote was upwards of $500 an hour!! (His quote was $260 + parts for a repair that took us only 45 minutes to do - so it would have taken him 30 minutes or less.) When we called to let him know we were going to do the work ourselves he started YELLING at me over the phone for several minutes. My family was in town visiting, and my dad could hear him yelling over the phone from across the room. We like to give our business to local companies but we will NEVER use Vienna Appliance again. They were probably the worst company we have ever done business with!!!

Response from Vienna Appliance
We would like to take this opportunity to share our side of this situation. A same day appointment was made for a Thursday afternoon. The representative we sent is a very well-trained technician having over 15 years experience with in-home appliance repair. He explained the problem, showed the customer where the problem was in the machine, and clearly explained our charges for that repair. Our estimates always include parts and labor combined. The customers were not happy because the part was not locally in stock for a quicker repair. Our technician went so far as to give the customer an address, in Maryland, where they could pick up the part if they wanted to get it sooner. The customers decided to have us finish the repair on Monday when we received the part. On Monday morning we called and were told that the customers would do the repair themselves. Since we do not sell parts, we recommended a local parts retailer to them. The customer was dissatisfied with this, but we, unfortunately, were no longer in a position to help her. Vienna Appliance has been servicing the Vienna area for over 20 years. We have hundreds of loyal, satisfied customers in this area. Most of our business comes from personal recommendations. We have proudly won customer nominated Super Service Awards from Angie's List for 5 years in a row. Our goal is to make the inconvenience of a broken appliance into a pleasant experience for both our clients and ourselves. Thank you for your time. Hannah Leake, Manager

Al is an outstanding, experienced technician and professional, and a pleasure to work with. He diagnosed both problems quickly and accurately. Since the dryer button had come back to life, Al advised us to stick with it for the time being because it could keep working and, if it quits, they can usually get the part the same day. As for the wall oven, it was an electronic control part (kind of like a motherboard, as Al described it) that had conked out after 9 years. Not an inexpensive part to replace, but less expensive than buying a new combination wall oven/microwave (about $2500). Al ordered the part and came back a few days later to install it, and ba-da-bing, the oven works again. The entire experience with Vienna Appliance was great, from the friendly and responsive service on the phone to the excellent service from Al. Promises made were always promises kept. You can't really ask for more. Great job!
Description of Work: The heating element in our GE wall oven suddenly quit. We also had an issue with the start button on our dryer, which stopped working, but then came back to life. Called Vienna Appliance based on the great reviews here and the next day they sent Al out to check these appliances.

He quickly diagnosed that it was a problem with the electronics, and after a phone call, gave us an estimate and an honest opinion on cost of repair vs. getting new washer. He was very courteous, professional, apologetic that it wasn't an "easy" fix. We opted given the cost for parts alone to just pay for the service call and not repair the washer. I have used Vienna before, and will continue to use them in the future.

I have used Vienna Appliance several times over the past few years. I have also reccomended them to my mom and she has used them for some of her own appliance issues. When my wash machine was leaking large amounts of water on Saturday afternoon I immediately knew to call them. I called on a Saturday afternoon and left a voice mail. On Monday morning I received a call back. By Monday afternoon the technician was at my house looking at the machine. This company has always been a pleasure to work with and provides great service at very reasonable rates.
Description of Work: The tech (Al) came out to look at my leaking wash machine. After looking at a few things he knew right away that the dryer was old and had rusted out. He could not fix the washer because of the age of the machine and the fact that it was rusted but he did make a great recommendation on a new wash machine.
