+ -1 moreFisal was able to identify their origin, tell us how much they were worth, and explain how they needed to be restored and what we could expect from the restoration process he recommended for each rug. He also told us which repairs of the largest rug were not worth attempting, because they would be too obvious. He also sold us pads to go under the rugs and explained how to care for them after cleaning. When the cleaning and repairs were complete, we were delighted by the results. The process took several months, but we thought getting it done properly was more important than getting it done fast. My sister, brother-in-law and I all enjoyed meeting Faisal and learned a lot by talking with him. He was generous with his time, and showed us other rugs in his extensive collection, telling us where they were from and explaining the differences between them. I would recommend him to anyone living in Northern Virginia or nearby for both his extensive knowledge and the services he offers.
Description of Work: My father bought four Oriental rugs -- two Turkmen and two Kashans -- in Cyprus in the mid-1950s. They were treasured and well cared-for, but after 60 years, they all needed cleaning and some repairs.

+ -1 moreThe service I received at Oriental Rug Weavers was outstanding. I originally took in several carpets for appraisals prior to including them in a shipment when relocating. Two of the carpets had not been cleaned in several decades and had some condition issues. These two carpets were sent out for cleaning, but due to unforeseeable circumstances, were not ready in time to be included with the rest of my shipment. How Faisal handled the situation has made me a customer for life. Faisal called as soon as he knew there was a problem, told me how he was going to address it, and then went above and beyond expectations I had. Faisal not only shipped my beautifully cleaned carpets to me at his expense, but also provided complimentary service to address the carpets condition issues, reweaving the fringe on one carpet and repairing cat damage on the other. The work was executed with great skill! With expert skills, clear communication, and excellent customer service, I highly recommend Oriental Rug Weavers.

+ -1 moreI purchased a mid-century Heriz rug at an online auction for a very good price without seeing it in person. When I received the rug, I understand why the price was so good; it was quite foul smelling. I began to search for a rug cleaner. I called Oriental Rug Weavers and I spoke to Faisal, who was extremely knowledgeable about oriental rugs and their repair and cleaning. However, hoping to save some money, I chose a business that had good ratings on consumer review sites, but lower prices and a quicker turnaround time. That was a mistake. The rug was returned about a week following pick-up. It appeared to be cleaner, but after a few hours, the pungent smell returned, and dust kept coming out of the rug even after multiple vacuuming sessions. I called Faisal back. He kindly advised me – free of charge – on how I could try to deal with the dust and the odor myself, should I wish to do so. He described a lengthy, labor-intensive process that I could try at home, but he cautioned that it may be difficult. After a few days of trying, I lost patience and brought the rug to Faisal. Faisal examined our rug carefully to determine what was causing the smell, and he discovered some damage that my husband and I had not noticed. He also provided interesting technical information about the rug and its history. Faisal was upfront with us that cleaning the rug would not be an easy job, but he was confident that he and his team could do it. We also decided to have repairs done. Our rug is now beautiful, dirt-free, and no longer smelly. In addition, the rug’s vibrant colors did not run as a result of the cleaning process, and we have complete peace of mind that the cleaning was expertly and thoroughly performed. We look forward to many years with our “new” rug. Thank you Faisal!

In addition to the quality technical work, always enjoy discussing with Faisal aspects of oriental rug making--Most recently on the piece work way weavers were traditionally paid by individual customers for the amount of work done in a given period.
Description of Work: Over a period of several years I have taken a number of collectible, mainly Persian and Turkish, antique and semi-antique rugs to Faisal and Oriental Rug Weavers in Vienna for cleaning, hanging, restoration/repair, provision of rug mats, etc. Most recently prevailed on Faisal to apply an alternative hanging method (Velcro strip rather than the usual straps) for a 19th century Shirvan prayer rug. As always the stitching work was superb and resulted in a good clean hang and is gentle on the rug.

+ -1 moreI brought in the rug, but the owner was not in. The gentleman there got the owner on the phone. They were very knowledgeable about the rug and its origins. The lights in the shop showed up 25 years worth of soil that had gone unnoticed. The owner described how they would hand wash and dry the rug several times, but could not guarantee that the urine stain would come out or that the dyes would not run. He could only promise that they would exercise as much care as possible and do as best they can. We accepted the disclaimer. He said it could take 3-4 weeks, which was not a problem. It took a little over 4 weeks and when we examined the rug it was perfectly clean of all stains and spots.
Description of Work: We had a flat weave Afghan tribal rug that needed cleaning.

They are perfect, they can't be seen from the front and the carpet still lies flat if we were to lay it on the floor. I'd definitely hire them again for their very careful, delicate and intricate artisanship.
Description of Work: Faisal and his team professionally cleaned our hand-knotted Afghan/Iranian silk carpet and sewed in loops along the back so we could hang it on the wall.

My rug needed repair along some of the edges due to moth damage When Faisal realized that the repair weaver had used a color thread that was slightly off, he insisted on having it totally redone - at no cost to me- so that the new color matched perfectly the original rug color. Faisal will not let a rug leave his store unless both he and the customer are totally satisfied with it. This is the second time he has done work for us. His cost is reasonable and he is a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: I brought in a large old Persian rug which desperately needed cleaning and repair from moth damage.

Our rugs are now properly cleaned and repaired to the best state possible given the permanent damage created by Hadeed. I cannot recommend Oriental Rugs Weavers and Mr. Khan more highly. He deserves his "A plus" rating.
Description of Work: We made the tragic mistake of using Hadeed Oriental Carpet cleaners. We paid Hadeed two thousand dollars for low-quality cleaning and negligent and improper repair work resulting in permanent damage on 8 valuable oriental rugs. Fringe came off on 2 rugs in under 30 days, on another rug Hadeed glued the fringe on the rug which had to be painstaking removed to prevent further damage, Hadeed "repaired" frayed edging that should have been repaired with hand binding but instead Hadeed sewed a "repair" strip over the edge and onto the rug itself leaving permanent marking from the machine stitches on the rug itself. Hadeed has a "F" Better Business Rating in Alexandria, VA which is well deserved. In despair we researched and miraculously discovered the "A" plus rated Oriental Rug Weavers. The owner, Faisal Khan is outstanding. There is no one more knowledgeable on oriental rugs. He showed us proof positive that the rugs had not been cleaned and that the "repairs" were improperly made and the permanent damage to the rugs. He told us what could be done, how he would do it, the length of time and cost to repair the damage. We entrusted our rugs to him. He removed the machine sewed strip Hadeed put on and hand wove the binded edging on the side of the carpet exactly as it was originally and matching the color of the opposite (non damaged) edging . The damage Hadeed did to our rug is almost invisible in the area where Hadeed sewed the strip onto the rug itself. The fringe has been repaired on the other rugs and they are properly cleaned and the colors are now vibrant and wool is soft to the touch. Mr. Khan is a very talented, experienced and honest - a true professional. We went to his show room and saw incredible restorations involving painstaking re-weaving making old antique rugs usable and beautiful again. The showroom has some of the most unusual and breathtaking rugs we have ever seen. Our rugs are now properly cleaned and repaired to the best state possible given the damage created by Hadeed. I cannot recommend Oriental Rugs Weavers and Mr. Khan more highly. He deserves his "A plus" rating.

I would recommend their services for anyone needing quality repairs. I'm sure the rugs will be around for the next generation to enjoy. I will also add that repairs were completed on time and exactly as discussed.
Description of Work: I had an extremely large antique hand woven Irish rug in very poor condition. It had a hole in it, edges torn and hadn't been properly cleaned in years. Ready for the bin but it was a family piece. After consulting Oriental Rug Weavers we decided to have the fragile rug cleaned. This was a difficult task due to the size (12'x9'). After cleaning It was suggested that we would be better served by making two smaller rugs out of it and have the hole repaired.

+ -1 moreWe balked at the quoted price initially, but authorized Faisal to proceed with one rug. When we saw the quality of his repairs to that rug, we agreed to go forward with the remaining rug. I feel that this investment has given us something back that we will be proud to leave to our children sometime in the future. Faisal's enthusiasm for his work, and his obvious passion about making the best of these rugs, was inspiring. The work was performed before the original promised date and Faisal made himself available via phone and email to discuss the project and provide updates. He was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Faisal and his craftsmen repaired two valuable rugs that are over 100 years old, rebuilding the edging, re-creating fringe, fixing holes, and removing creases and worn spots to restore them to something close to their original beauty. The workmanship is phenomenal; the extensive repairs are invisible.

+ 1 moreOriental Rug Weavers is by far the very best choice ? the only choice in our opinion ? for anything related to oriental rugs, whether you?re purchasing, cleaning or repairing a rug ? particularly the latter in our case. The owner, Faisal, has unequaled knowledge and integrity and takes tremendous pride in his work which is why he gets such great ratings. He?s an absolute master and true artisan! We had a very large handmade, family heirloom oriental rug that was far too big for the living room in our new home. We did not want to sell it because of its sentimental value and the thought of cutting it down to fit the room made us cringe ? but it was the only option since we wanted to keep it. We spoke with a couple of other well-known oriental rug dealers and cleaners in the northern Virginia area and none of them were comfortable reducing the size of the rug since it was handmade. Then we found Oriental Rug Weavers and Faisal. Faisal said it would be a very difficult task and explained in meticulous detail how the rug would have to be cut and restitched. Because the rug was handmade, the stiches were not perfectly aligned going across the rug, so it was not simply a matter of cutting the rug and sewing it back together. It sounded impossible and we were very doubtful that the rug would ever look okay after it was cut, but we proceeded anyway because of our trust in Faisal. When Faisal called and told us the rug was ready we purposefully did not pick it up for a week because we were afraid of how bad it was going to look and needed to muster up the courage to go. OMG were we wrong!!! The job Faisal and team did was unbelievable! We couldn?t even tell where the rug was cut until he pointed it out. How they were able to cut and reattach the rug with a virtually invisible seam is still a marvel to us! The rug is now the statement piece in our home and nobody is the wiser that it was resized. Choosing Oriental Rug Weavers and Faisal is choosing the best!

+ 0 moreThis was our third time using Oriental Rug Weavers and we have been pleased each time. I had been referred by my sister who had a rug repaired there a few years ago. Our first time, they very thoroughly cleaned and added hand-knotted beautiful fringes to a small rug we purchased at an antique shop. This last time we had 5 oriental carpets cleaned and my mother also had one cleaned and had the fringes repaired. The hand work on the fringes is amazing. Our rugs, which had been in transit from overseas for months, are now beautifully cleaned and restored and all odors are gone. We will definitely continue to rely on Faisal Khan to help us maintain the beauty and value of our oriental rugs.

+ -1 moreTheir work is meticulous, and we highly recommend them. Mr. Khan is a pleasure to work with, very knowledgeable about his craft, and takes great pride in his work. The repair work they did several years ago was beautiful - they carefully matched the colors in the carpet, rewove the worn areas, and when they were finished you could not tell where the repairs had been made. After the cleaning, all the carpets looked and felt brand new. Mr. Khan is also a man of his word - the carpets were picked up and delivered without a fuss (including moving the furniture), and he went out of his way to meet our schedules. We will definitely continue to use them!
Description of Work: Oriental Rug Weavers cleaned two large Tibetan carpets for us this year and provided a new pad for one. In 2010 they also cleaned, repaired and provided a new pad for a 17 year old beloved Larsen/Stark carpet that had numerous wear spots. ($3,228)

+ -1 moreFaisal and his wonderful staff have cleaned a repaired a Turkish and a Persian sumac for us. Oriental Rug Weavers uses only water for cleaning, protecting the colors of the rug as well as being gentle on the environment. The repairs were excellent--the fringe was re-stitched and trimmed on one. We needed the rug back in time for a social event at our house, and Faisal made sure that the work was completed on time and completely satisfactory. Besides the great work, Faisal was more than happy to talk about the where the rugs were from, how they were made, and how to take best care of them. We will be bringing in other carpets we have for cleaning in the near future, and recommend Oriental Rug Weavers for carpet needs.
