Great service from start to finish.

I had scheduled a cleaning for the earliest opening which was mid-April, however due to an opening in their schedule I had my cleaning over two weeks earlier than I planned, which was great. Elvis arrived right on time and did a great job of being friendly and personable yet professional at the same time. He did a great job cleaning out the fireplace and chimney and let me know of some problems with the firebox. I had been concerned about deteriorating brick/mortar and so he explained how the damage might have happened and what my options were to fix them. He let me know that I would probably need the firebox rebuilt completely at some point. He said he could do it himself, but it would take longer and cost more than hiring a mason and I appreciate that honesty. I had also wanted to install a chimney cap, which he happened to have in his truck so he installed one for me. Overall he was quick and professional. The price seemed a bit high compared to some other deals I have seen, but not unreasonably so.

They had a discount. The job went well. I didn't have too much experience with fireplaces and they were very patient with me. They helped me out and educated me. The guys were nice and very professional. They were on time.

I have never had a chimney sweep and have lived in my house 10 years. I called and only had to wait two weeks for an appointment. The crew of two arrived on time and completed the job with speed and cleanliness. They were informative in advising what I shoulld and should not put in the fire as kindling. Very patient with my questions and helped reduce my anxiety. The chimney cap is cracked and need repair. The head sweeper climbed up on the roof to take a picture "on my camera" (of the work needed) to show my husband. They are at the top my referral list.

It was easy to set up the appointment, they showed up on time, did a great job, was very careful in laying down plastic covering on the floor and not to get anything dirty.

My gas fireplace no longer would light since returning to my townhouse after 7 years of use as a rental property. The technician arrived on time, cleaned the fireplace, and, after much persistence, was able to get the unit working propertly again. Great experience!!

Guys arrived on time and were super friendly and helpful. Gave me some tips on chimney maintenance, etc. Cleaned up nicely and even hauled away a piece of useless/outdated equipment that I had in my fireplace.

Had one chimney cleaned. We had been using duralogs for 4 year and the technician commented that the chimney was very dirty because of this.

A few comments of feedback: 1. I would like to see them educate the costomer more about things we should not be burining in our fireplace. With our county working to be more Green it is surprising to here how many people are still burning trash, all the X--mas wrapping paper etc. in thier fireplaces. 2. If you call to get an appointment be prepared to wait about 2 weeks. They are busy for a reason! So worth the wait. They did call me back and "bump" me up so that was nice.

We needed an inspection and sweep for our chimney, just having moved into our new place and not knowing the chimney's history. Nicholas' man arrived early and got started immediately, removed his shoes without being asked and took great care not to get anything in the house dirty. He went out of his way to give me useful information about the fireplace and chimney that I wouldn't otherwise have had any way of knowing. I will definitely use Nicholas for my next sweep and am looking forward to a crackling fire tonight.

I am very disappointed with my experience with Nicholas Chimney and will not use their service again. There were several issues, from pricing confusion, to a sketchy diagnosis, to very poor customer service. I first called for an appointment back in October after being unable to get my gas fireplace started. The initial customer service experience was fine and I made an appointment about 4 weeks out. I thought it was a good sign that they were very busy plus I had read generally favorable reviews on Angie's List. Nick and his assistant showed up on time the day of the apartment and came across professionally. After inspecting my fireplace, Nick told me the pilot light kit needed to be replaced and that he would need to reach out to the manufacturer to get information on cost, availability, shipping time, etc. He told me he thought the part would cost around $80 and that labor was $225, so I was looking at about $305 PLUS the $145 just to come out, so $450 in total to get my fireplace working. The whole pricing thing was confusing because when I first called in I was told the basic fee to come out was $145 but for approximately $225 I could get the fireplace cleaned as well. And now Nick was telling me that he would need to charge an additional fee to clean in addition to the $145 service fee and $225 fee to come back out and install the pilot kit. After expressing my frustration with the pricing doublespeak, he agreed to clean the fireplace for no additional charge, so he deserves credit for this. But I suggest getting a pricing estimate in writing prior to having them come out to your house to avoid this confusion. A couple days later I sent an e-mail to get a status on the pilot kit assembly. After no response, I called in the next day and was patched through to Nick. He told me he was waiting to hear back from the manufacturer and would get back to me first thing the next business day, which was Monday morning. Monday came and went, no call. A couple days passed, then a week. Nothing. I never received a call back. I could have followed up again but was increasingly annoyed and chose to move in another direction. Here is the real kicker. I ended up talking to a friend about the issue and he told me the same thing had happened to him and he had fixed the problem by buying what is called a Universal Thermocouple at Lowe's, a part that only costs $8. He said there was a good chance I had the same issue, so I went to Lowe's, bought the part, and had my friend come over to assist me. Less than 30 minutes after he started on it the fireplace was working perfectly. I carefully observed and am confident I would be able to install this replacement part when/if I have this problem again. So for 8 bucks and 30 minutes of work I had my fireplace working. After 30 years in business, how did Nick not know that my problem could be so easily remedied? Why was he reaching back to the manufacturer to get an $80 part when a readily available $8 part at Lowe's was sufficient? So, in sum, from pricing confusion, to an apparent inability to diagnosis a common problem, to completely jilting me on the back end, my experience with Nicholas Chimney was lousy all the way around.

Nicholas Chimney Sweep came to clean our chimney last week. They were on time, friendly, and low-key. They completed the work quickly and well. The employee who spoke with us was polite and professional. Even though they needed to have some equipment in the living room, they left the room clean and in order. All in all a good experience.

I am planning on installing gas fireplace logs in the near future and wanted to have my chimney swept in preparation. Also, there is a small crack in the back wall of the fireplace and I was concerned if it posed any safety risk. Within 24 hours of leaving a voice message (as well as sending an email) I received a call from the office. They happened to have a crew in the Woodbridge area that day and if I was available they would do the work immediately. They arrived within a couple of hours, spread drop cloths all around the hearth, inspected the crack (not to worry; it's a hairline crack) and proceeded to sweep the chimney. The men were polite, professional, efficient and didn't try to sell me on services I did not need -- repair of the fireplace, for example. To top it off, I received a $10 discount for locating them via the net. All in all, a very positive experience and I would recommend them with confidence.

Excellent experience. The two-man crew showed up on time, performed a thorough chimney and fireplace cleaning, and were done in about an hour. I had numerous questions for the technician regarding how to improve the draft in my fireplace, and he answered all of my questions thoroughly and knowledgeably. I would definitely hire this company again for chimney/fireplace cleaning or maintenance/repairs.

They were terrific. They spent a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem. They spent a few hours working on that. After the repair work was completed we had a question, they came back to check out the situation. We were very happy with their work and responsiveness.

Came out to inspect a clean a gas fireplace. Did very little because they thought there was a problem with the gas line. Took $150 for not much work. Called the gas company who simply flushed the line (which they said the worker could have done easily). Tried calling them back to get them to come out to finish the job (replace the parts and finish cleaning the fireplace). Called no less than 6 times. Never called us back. VERY unresponsive. Highly recommend looking elsewhere if you want quality and responsiveness.

It was very difficult to get them out. The service was good when they finally got there but getting them scheduled was very difficult. They kept putting the appointment off. I would take time off work and they would put it off for various reasons. The technician was very courteous and clean, however I did ask him for some information that he was going to get back to me with and he never did.

When I called for services they were completely booked through the New Year. When I expressed my disappointment the woman who schedules the calls did some digging and managed to find me a much earlier appointment. When I mentioned Angie's list -they automatically gave me a discount, I was thrilled. The man they sent out to do the job was professional, punctual, and thorough. Very impressed.

Called to get an estimate for the chimney work as they came highly recommended from my real estate agent. However, based on my phone conversation with the company they are primarily focused on chimney sweeping only this time of year. They wouldn't consider my job until January and I found the company rep unpleasant. I went with another highly rated Angie's List chimney service that had no problem coming out quickly to provide a free estimate and completed the work a few days after that.

We bought the house from the original owner and weren't sure the condition of the fireplace/chimney. Called Nicholas (based on Angies list recommendations/rating). At first, I was unhappy at how far out they ended up scheduling the appointment, but then realized it was because it was the busy season. They called me the day before to remind of the appointment. On the morning of the appointment Mike called to say he was running AHEAD of scheudule and that he would be out a little earlier, if that was okay with me. They were here within the estimated time and performed a great cleaning and service. Very polite and professional! He answered all my questions and addressed all of my concerns, they even removed the old glass doors/grate since we ordered a new set. All in all they did a GREAT JOB!!!!

They called to let us know they had a schedule cancellation and could move us up a couple of weeks. They were very nice and professional and did a very nice job. I thought my dampener was broken so I had asked them to repair it also. They were able to adjust it and get it to work at no extra charge. Will definitely use them again.

Didn't get a chance to find out. I am dying to use the woodstoves in my new (old) house. My husband is very against touching them until we have them inspected. Another week lost.

Based on Angie's List ratings, called them. The first person who answered the phones seemed exasperated and irritated. I told her that I would like to schedule an appt. She put me on hold without asking. After being on hold for a while, another woman picked up. I explained to her what we were looking for. We needed to have our gas fireplaces serviced and that we had recently moved in, so needed help lighting the pilots etc. She asked if we had the history of the fireplaces, which we do not. She said the first available appt was Dec 7th - 6 weeks away. No explanation or apology. So I said No thank you - we will look elsewhere for a more timley appt.
