Description of Work: chimney sweep told me i needed to have entire chimney rebuilt for 3,poo dollars. Mottern did it for $700, as well as a crack in the other chimney at no extra charge. great job.

Description of Work: Called their office for an estimate on getting some work down on my chimney as there were cracks in the brick and mortar. Called on Wednesday (8/17). Spoke to a nice gentleman who said that they could have somone there the following day. Indeed, Jeff Mottern (the owner) and one of his folks came by right on time the following day. Jeff examined the area in question, made some suggestions and then we proceeded to look at the front walkway (which is also brick). I showed Jeff some other ares of concern (cracks in the mortar). He informed me that he would get these bricks cut out and re-mortared as well. Also showed Jeff that the area where the scaffold would be placed (for the chimney work) would be right in a flower garden. He assured me that there would be minimal damage to it and that his crew would take every precaution to keep the flowers alive. Gave me an estimate for $1,390 if it could be done the following day as he had just gotten word of a cancelled job in my area (Reston) that was to be taking place the following day. If the job was going to be further down the line the cost would jump to $1,690. I was told that the job would take most of the day and that his crew would be there the following morning between 7:30 - 8:00 am. I was told that payment would not be due until completion of the job. The following day his crew was there at 7:45 and they started work immediately thereafter. Very polite and obviously knew what they were doing. They were done by mid-afternoon. Work was done in exactly the manner in which it was described. (No flowers were damaged!)They told me that they would be back the following Monday to do final clean-up. Indeed they were. Clean up was even better than what I expected. They power washed two stained areas on the chimney that had been an eyesore for some time, making it look like new. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty! Jeff called that afternoon to make sure that everything had gone as I expected. Indeed! Would I use them again? You bet!!! Honest, quality work at a fair price. One other point... I had received a quote from another contractor (NOT on Angie's list) for $3,800 for the same exact work. Talk about highway robbery.

Description of Work: Jeff built us two stone walls in our gardern. They look really good. The workmen cleaned up all their mess, and everything was done on schedule.

Description of Work: Just wanted to let you know I was very pleased with the work done by Mottern Masonry in Fairfax Station, VA. They redid my concrete walk, steps and stoop in brick and I love it. Jeff was prompt in coming out to give me an estimate and knowledgeable about the project. His crew, headed by Jose, was great. They were skillful with the brick laying and took pride in their work. They cleaned up nicely after each of the 3 days and the price was right too. I would highly recommend them.
