Job was completed exactly as described and the patio turned out perfectly!

The crew broke up and removed the old concrete floor that was cracked and sinking on one side. Installed rebar and poured a new floor and finished. Top notch work and the crew was very efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend and will use them in the future.

Mottern's bid to do the work was the 2nd highest of 3 bids. They arrived on-site every day at the appointed time, and completed the job on time (including removal of existing shrubbery and decorative stonework on all vertical surfaces). Workers were respectful of our home, never tracking dirt, and cleaning residual concrete and framing lumber at the end of each day. Mottern originally estimated 1-1/2 weeks to complete the work, but didn't take that long, in spite of the fact that they had to work in below-freezing weather some of the time. (They protected exposed concrete/mortar from the cold using plastic blanketting.) In summary, their workers were obviously skilled in producing detailed masonry work. We would not hesitate to use Mottern again for all masonry and related work.

Jeff and his crew did a great job. The whole process from beginning to end went smooth even dealing with the winter weather. His foreman Jose was very knowledgeable and really paid attention to the small details. I would highly recommend Mottern to friends and family.

Mottern Masonry's team recently completed a 14' x 24' stamped concrete pad adjacent to our existing driveway for use as a base for our RV "Carport". Everything about the the process was professional, high quality, timely and reasonably priced. It turned out great and was just what we had hoped for. Highly recommended.

I would like to post our delight over the quality of our stamped concrete porch and walkway. Modern Masonry Design was professional and their concrete staff extremely knowledgeable. I have worked in construction design for over 40 years and they really know their craft. My finished porch 9'x5' and my walkway leading to my porch stamped with a flagstone pattern, gray coloring and non skid surface is lovely. I am getting complements from all of my neighbors. The job was done in days, they dug up my bushes allowing me to replant them. They even spread the dirt from the hole for the porch and seeded w/ grass. Great job! We couldn't be happier and would hire them again.

Mottern Masonry Design recently replace the front stoop and entrance walkway to our house. It has a slate finish on top with a reinforced concert base. Their design and workmanship was excellent. The new entrance walkway greatly improves the appearance of our home. The crew that did the work was very professional, communicated with us throughout the project, showed respect to our property during construction, and left the site clean when finished. Mottern’s estimate was lower than others we had received, and it included total replacement of my 42 yr. old stoop. The other estimates did not include replacement of the old stoop. We are extremely pleased with the finished project and strongly recommend Mottern Masonry Design for any patio or walkway work you may need.

I highly recommend this company. Jeff Mottern and his team did a fantastic job on my project. I live in Eastern Loudoun/Broadlands and did my research to find a contractor with solid masonry experience. Angie's List was one of the resources I used for my research. Jeff's company gets very good reviews on Angie's List...but the key for me was picking a company that made me feel confident about my choice. The estimate process was straight forward...Jeff walked the site with me, I shared my vision...Jeff made recommendations, and provided a detailed overview of the work to be completed. The quote for the job was completed at the same time and was reviewed with me before leaving. I was confident that Jeff's team would be able to complete my project. After hiring Mottern Masonry and scheduling the project, a dedicated team was assigned to support my project with a Foreman. The same team supported my project from start to finish. Working with stone is an artisan trade and it shows in the work they do and the product they use. Each stone was hand placed and cut to fit at our job site. The job included pouring a concrete slab and installation of retaining walls as well as extending a downspout drain. The overall project size is close to 500 Sq Ft. I really wanted the materials to complement the existing deck...and I am very happy with the recommended choices that Jeff made. Even though I was not under a deadline for the project...Jeff's team estimated 2 weeks and stuck by that schedule. Very competent and very professional. Overall....the end to end process with Jeff's company was straightforward. The payments made for the project matched the quotes and there were no surprises. Once again, I highly recommend Mottern Masonry and would hire Jeff's company again.

Project went well. We agreed to a scheduling plan and Mottern met the schedule, keeping me advised of the start date, number of days required for repair, and follow-up to acid wash the completed mortar repairs. The repair masons told me what they were going to do when they arrived, told me of an anomaly that they discovered that required a workaround, and cleaned up after the work was completed. I was very satisfied with the work they performed and the price was reasonable. The final price was the price we had originally agreed to. I had used Mottern Masonry previously, was satisfied and therefore had them back for this project.

From start to finish, Mottern Masonry was excellent. They showed up when they said they would and got the job done quickly. The patio looks great. We could not be happier with it.

Jeff Mottern was very engaged and on top of all the details of my job. His foreman Carlos and the two workmen were friendly and very skilled - real stone artisans. The coordinator/scheduler was not as responsive as I expected but it wasn’t a problem - just noticeable when compared to the on-site work.

We first discovered Mottern Masonry as a result of the earthquake of 2011, which damaged the brick walls of the garage that is attached to our house. The outer wall suffered the worst damage. The inside wall, though not so badly damaged, also needed repair. We have since had Mottern Masonry back to work on our cement back stairs, which are very tall. We have currently contracted with them to dig down and seal the water pipe that is allowing rain water to enter our basement, and to regrade that entire side of the house to promote proper rain water run-off. Mottern Masonry does excellent work. They know what they are doing. After going around with them to inspect our brick home and garage after the earthquake, we felt totally confident in their assessment of the damage. Our confidence in them increased when we saw the work that they did to repair that damage. We have continued to depend on Mottern Masonry for any masonry work we need. Mottern Masonry is very practical; they state exactly what is necessary to accomplish the work. There is no over-selling. If a particular thing is not necessary, they say so. We depend upon Mottern Masonry for their excellent work. They arrived on time and finish within the time that they project the task will take. They work diligently and well, and clean up after themselves when they are finished. Their prices are entirely reasonable.

Fantastic! 3rd time we have used Mottern Masonry. ALWAYS great on both new and repair work. I have recommended them to several people - all gave rave reviews. They charge a fair price - not the cheapest, but absolutely The Best. You get what you pay for - some of the work they did for us was repairs of prior contractors work. Professional, honest, and high quality work at a fair price = great contractor.

Jeff Mottern came out and gave me a fair estimate and took the time to explain the process and answer my questions. We were very pleased with the quality of the repairs done on our chimney. The price was very reasonable compared to other quotes we received. They were able to start the work ahead of their scheduled date which was nice and the crew were both punctual and courteous. We would not hesitate to use their services again.

Mottern just completed a beautiful flagstone entryway for us. Their price was fair compared to others and their workmanship was outstanding. They were not reluctant to accomplish our curved design and they were very attentive to drainage issues. I contacted Mottern Masonry through their website and was contacted shortly after. I spoke with Guy who took the time to discuss my ideas and thoroughly answer all of my questions. Several days later, the owner, Jeff, visited my home to see the space and provide me with an estimate. I quickly signed a contract because I had confidence that they were going to do quality work based on their years of experience and excellent customer service. The installation took about two weeks due to weather delays. It turned out more beautiful than I expected. They gave me the low maintenance backyard that I’ve been wanting for years. It was worth every penny.

I had an old flagstone patio with weeds growing up in it and I wanted it replaced with a stamped concrete patio. They removed the old patio and framed it in one day and the next day poured the concrete and stamped it. They returned on other days to powerwash and then to apply the sealer. They also filled in around my A/C units with river rock. I was pleased with the stamped concrete patio and have had several compliments on it. They were very professional, quick, and easy to work with. I live in a townhome and parking is not always available and sometimes they had to park in the street. I appreciated that they took care to protect other cars when they were unloading their truck and especially when the concrete truck came to pour concrete. They always cleaned up my yard and the curb and when necessary covered adjacent cars with plastic to avoid harm to them. It has been nice to be able to enjoy my patio once again without having to constantly pull weeds from the old, crumbling flagstone from before.
