Mottern Masonry Design

We are very satisfied with the work done by Jeff Mottern and his team. Jeff offered terrific advice and helped us design the stoop and patio. He was very knowledgeable about what ideas of ours would work, and which ones were not feasible - then he worked with us to come up with a design. The installation went very well - Jeff's crew was very experienced and was willing to make adjustments we asked for as the work progressed. I would definitely use them again. The finished product is beautiful!

Mottern Masonry came out to perform the work, but after closer inspection of the concrete, they determined that the concrete was within specs and was not the source of my problem. Many contractors would have gone ahead and done the work, but Jeff and his crew were honest and I did not have to pay for work I did not need.

Mottern Masonry did a great job from beginning to end! Starting from the initial visit and estimate. Jeff was very helpful with suggestions and options to help us stay within our budget, but at the same time made sure what was important to us could be met. Jeff, Guy and the project manager, George were always available to explain the work and answer any questions. They were very professional. They are a team with lots of experience and it was easy to see they take pride in providing quality work. We were very happy with their job and will definitely use them again for our future projects!

Had an old brick patio under townhouse deck that needed replaced. Jeff came out, listened to our thoughts on what we wanted done, and gave suggestions. He was professional, thoughtful, and not pushy at all. He made sure we understood the nature of the project, the steps involved, and how the weather would impact the schedule. Had several conversations with Jeff and Guy before the start of the project. They were prompt on their responses and always happy to talk. Their installation team arrived and got right to work without issue. Timing-wise we ended up getting a number of quotes to replace our mid-level deck boards the day the Mottern team was going to pour to concrete. Several of the deck people tried to convince us our whole deck needed replaced and that we should stop the concrete pour immediately. The team lead, Guy, and Jeff were all very helpful when we panic called them with this information. Jeff and his team lead looked at the deck and agreed it was fine and only needed the boards replaced. So we got a couple more quotes for the deck and they all agreed the boards only needed replaced. Thanks to Jeff and his team's quick response, we were able to avoid any delay to the concrete pour. The patio looks great! We are very happy with everyone we dealt with at Mottern Masonry.

Wonderfully, the steps look fabulous. Mottern explained the process, options available, and price ranges for each. They also explained the life expectancy of each solution. The work was performed in time and I was kept informed as to what to expect for each step.

Jeff and his Team were amazing! Not only did they provide an incredible stamped concrete patio, but they also fixed our brick at our front entry, and extended a drainage pipe (all without additional charges). We could not be happier with the quality of work they performed! Jim N.

Jeff Mottern's team did a terrific job. They completed the work exactly according to the schedule they promised, even though there was some bad weather. I am very satisfied with the new brick walkway and all of the tuck pointing repairs they accomplished, and I would certainly call them in the future for any more masonry work. Great job Jeff!

Following an extensive internet search and study of reviews, on June 7, 2019 I requested proposals for replacing the walkway only and replacement of both the flagstones and the concrete foundation, depending upon the condition of the foundation when the old flagstones were removed. Both Jeff Mottern, the owner, and Gus Ross responded promptly to our inquiry. Jeff visited us on June 12 to look at the project. He provided the requested, written proposals on the spot and I hired him before he left our home. They began work on June 18 and were complete on June 21. The foundation was good, which produced a significant saving. The final product is great!

The project was completed as planned. We are very pleased with the result.

I highly recommend Mottern Masonry Design. We had an addition put on our house last fall and needed a backyard patio space and also a small pad poured on the side of our house for trash receptacles. Jeff came out and gave us some excellent recommendations on the size and type of patio that would meet our budget. We scheduled the work to be done two weeks later and his crew was right on time and finished the job on schedule. They poured a 14 X 21 stamped concrete patio pad with two bluestone slate steps leading up to our sliding glass patio doors. They also installed on the side of our house a 6 x 6 concrete pad for our trash receptacles and resolved a drainage issue. The work looks beautiful and we have really enjoyed the new patio.

The team came out after another contractor failed to show and demo'ed our existing driveway and walkway. We wanted it to be wider. They did a fantastic job. The price was higher than the other contractors we had provide estimates, but we would have saved a *lot* of hassle if we just would have gone with them at the beginning. Very smooth and profession. Would be happy to use again.

Excellent! The doorway between the kitchen and garage (built in 1957) was not square. The cinderblock and brick on the hinge side were narrower at the top than the bottom. Consequently, I could not install a new door because there was no room for a jamb once the door frame was square. So, Jeff's team removed the blocks and bricks and reinstalled them, ensuring the door opening was square and wide enough to accomodate the jamb + new door frame. I am happy to report that the installation of the new door was pretty simple once this was corrected. The work was completed on time, on budget and as agreed to. Communication, courtesy and professionalism were all great. I am completely satisfied with the exceptional work and would hire again. Highly recommend!

Jeff, Guy, and the team that did the work were wonderful. My backyard has been transformed. I had used Mottern Masonry about four years ago to do a flagstone front porch stoop. They did a great job, so I got an estimate from them (and a few others) for giving me a new backyard with flagstone (townhouse). Their final estimate was comparable to others, but what set Mottern Masonry apart was that Jeff spent quite a bit of time with me talking about how to design it and provided thoughtful recommendations. They worked with me on the cost to get it to something I could accept because I think I underestimated the cost for my budget. They did the work within several weeks of signing the contract and it was complete in the six day timeframe they promised. I absolutely love it and would recommend them!

This review is 10 years overdue! Ten years ago I contracted Mottern Masonry to install my front walkway. The company was highly recommended by a friend who had previously used their services. Before signing the contract I spoke to and received estimates from 3 other companies. Prices varied, design ideas varied and materials varied. I chose to work with Jeff Mottern. Mottern was not the least expensive option but I had a sense of trust with them that I did not readily have with the other companies and Jeff had great design ideas. I'm a fairly middle of the road type person and believe you get what you pay for. After paying the deposit and scheduling the work I started to get feedback from friends about how I should not have agreed to use their services because the concrete under the stone would crack causing problems with the walkway. They were sure it would eventually crumble. Everyone who told me this estimated the walkway to last 4-5 years max! Looking back I am glad that feedback came after the deposit was paid and work scheduled. I wonder if I would have given pause to this and ultimately found another contractor. I am very glad I did not. Flash forward 10 (maybe 11 years) the walkway looks like the day they installed it. Exactly the same, and I still love it. The stone they used is gorgeous. The walkway is quite long, curves and has great visual interest. When I spoke to Jeff about what people were telling me he assured me that would not be my reality. Their process is different. They used (and I could be getting some of this wrong as I am not an expert in this field) thick cut PA flagstone on a 4 inch 3500 psi concrete slab) and as such, the results are different. In the end longevity is expected. I am certainly enjoying that in reality. So much so that when my husband and I decided to install a patio we called Jeff. Didn't hesitate. Imagine my surprise when the same crew showed up to install my patio! Same guys! For me it says a lot about how he must treat his employees for them to still be with him after all these years. I have now added that to the list of reasons why I am glad to have originally hired them and to have rehired them this year. The patio is now finished. It's gorgeous, the stone is stunning. We opted to keep it simple but go with a larger size. We installed a large patio (about 30'x27') with two curved 12 foot seating walls. This stone is the prettiest I have ever seen. The crew did an amazing job and are so professional. Artisans really. It is without hesitation that I recommend their services.

I selected Mottern Masonry to parge and seal my home's foundation. The work crew carefully dug out the area and ensured the work area was neat upon their departure. Jeff Mottern (owner) and his team were courteous, responsive, and professional throughout the entire project. I would not hesitate to use them in the future.

All of the Mottern Masonry personnel that work worked with were very polite and very professional. Work began and was completed as promised in the original estimate of work. While the work was ongoing, we had requested some minor changes to the layout or position of the concrete and the team handled our requests without problem. We will certainly work with Mottern Masonry again if needed.

We are so happy we had Mottern create our new walkway! Everyone there was super prompt, professional and helpful in deciding what to do with our old ugly front walkway. They dug up the old concrete walkway, then poured and perfected a new one for us. The results are even better than we hoped - the new stamped concrete looks like flagstone and is so beautiful!

Both jobs were extremely well done. The stamped concrete walkway looks terrific, is easy to maintain, and has held up tremendously in the 2 years since the job was done. No cracks, chips, or stains/fading. We recently had Mottern pour a concrete slab for a shed installation and they were just as quick to respond, very professional and timely, and had excellent follow up. We will definitely use Mottern for any future needs and highly recommend them for any concrete needs.

Excellent work. Removed a rotting, low level wood deck and installed a new stamped concrete patio. Pricing was easy to understand and the final project came in under the higher end of the estimate. Will use Mottern Masonry again in the future when we replace our offstreet parking spot and to repair and install new walkways.

They did a great job!. Jeff gave me a fair price and was even willing to separately price a few options to help me understand the prices of a few add-ons. Jeff was on time for the estimate and for the first day of work. The crew was very professional and worked quickly. I cannot say enough about their quality. They did an outstanding job with my stamped concrete patio. I asked for the flagstone look, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Always prompt & on-time. They replaced/enlarged a patio and also created a walkway from the front to the back yards (all in stamped concrete). They also repaired our hearth and re-grouted the front stoop. We're very happy with their work and will use them to replace our driveway when that job is needed.

We did three projects with Mottern Masonry - a patio, a front walkway, and retaining walls. The work was very high quality, and so was the stone they provided. They communicate promptly, are very responsive to questions/concerns, clean up after themselves. Prices are better in the cold months; they were the lowest bid when we were taking bids. Highly recommend!
