Mottern Masonry Design

The curb appeal that we wanted. Our crumbling walkway needed to be replaced. We had ideas, but Jeff Mottern helped shape those ideas into a plan. Guy Ross kept us informed of the process and the schedule, and checked in with us when the work was about to start. The crew always was timely and told us what to expect each day. They worked through some very hot days, and kept the project on track. We are thrilled with the results!

We had a front brick planter, several bricks around windows, a large crack on the 2nd floor and several smaller spots around the outside of our home that needed repair. I was very happy with how responsive Mottern Masonry was to my initial inquiry. I sent a few photos to give them an idea of the job, and Jeff came out to provide an estimate. He was prompt and courteous. They were able to schedule repairs quickly, and came promptly to do that work. I am very happy with the quality of their work, the mortar is a close match to my 1961 home's original, and everything looks in tip top shape. I would not hesitate to call on Mottern again in future.

Mottern Masonry did really good quality work for me and they kept to their schedule. They also adapted their schedule to accommodate additional tasks that arose as the project progressed. I recommend them highly and would hire them again.

Mottern Masonry did an excellent job installing our stamped concrete patio. We have a backyard with very little usable space. Jeff modern worked with us to ensure we could use all of it. He also helped us keep the job within budget. The Mottern Mason team was punctual and courteous throughout the entire process. Now we have a wonderful backyard space that we can use all year round!

We needed our front walkway replaced, drainage line buried in addition to a new pad for our sidewalk, Jeff came out and provided us with a couple suggestions for the project in the estimate, along with the information and drawing I needed to provide to the HOA for approval. The crew Jose’ and his son-in-law were professional and hard workers. They discovered the ground had eroded beneath the steps, they poured additional concrete to correct the issue. The drainage works great, my wife and I are very pleased with the flagstone walkway that was installed. We have also received many compliments from our neighbors. We recommend Mottern Masonry Design and will use them again for future projects.

Mottern Masonry installed a tinted, stamped concrete driveway, ahead of time and on budget. It included some creative engineering to get drainage correct (which the competitor bids left out, or got wrong). I was impressed by the value, speed, quality, and how clean the work site was when they were done. Kudos to your crew, Jeff!

Mottern replaced the dilapidated concrete slab and repaired masonry foundation walls for our old garage building. I was initially thinking about just doing a basic concrete floor but Jeff Mottern came up with the idea to do a stamped cobblestone pattern which turned out fantastic and is the highlight of the project. The team was great and workmanship top notch. The same guys did our stamped concrete patio years ago and it also looks great. I have recommended Mottern to friends already and am looking forward to the next home project to get them back out.

This brick porch repair was the fifth Mottern Masonry project for us. As with all the previous projects, the team's work was of the highest quality. The team was thoroughly professional, efficient, and courteous. We recommend Mottern Masonry without reservation for any similar project.

We contacted 8 different contractors before deciding to go with Mottern. This seems to be a busy time for this type of work, in spite of the current pandemic. After looking at the work to be done, three contractors told me they were too busy and so declined to submit an estimate. Another said the job was too big for them. Mottern and one other contractor were the lowest bidders, and both had very high ratings on Angie's list. We went with Mottern because of they displayed a lot of familiarity with the type of work to be done, the sources for the desired materials, and a good sense for the architectural elements of the job. They were very professional. About 7 workers showed up 5-6 days each week for about one month. It was obvious that the workers were highly experienced pros. They made all the right decisions about fit up - drainage slopes, stair design, matching with existing masonry, etc. All concrete had rebar installed on 2' centers - something that only one other bidder offered (most wanted to use wire mesh). When they finished, they acid washed everything, cleaned up the job site, and even brought in a little fill dirt, grass seed, and straw to restore the lawn areas that were torn up during construction. I give these guys highest marks for a job well done.

The stoop was replaced on the delivered on the schedule they indicated at the time the offer was made and the price was in the range we were anticipating for the work. The final product in the attached picture speaks for itself. The rails were provided by Reliable Rails.

We are extremely happy with the work that Mottern Masonry Design performed for us. They did an amazing job adding a patio to our new home. Their knowledge and understanding about design and material that would best suit our need and budget was outstanding. Their artisanship and professionalism surpassed our expectations. Job well done! Our more than 30 years’ old front stoop was re-surfaced with rocks and stones, it looks grand and Beautiful.

Mottern Masonry did a fantastic replacing an older asphalt driveway with red brick. The result is absolutely stunning. It is very clear that it is a result of lots of experience and artisan workmanship.

Highly recommend working with this company. We had several others come out to give us estimates on the job and Mottern was the best price and personality! Jeff and Guy were both professional, knowledgeable, and communicated well with us. The crew that came to work on our project was lead by Jose. They were all respectful, friendly, and took pride in their work. We are very pleased by the final product, have recommended them to friends/family, and would use them again. We've had other contractors come through our property to complete other jobs and they've all complimented the job that Mottern did. If other contractors are impressed, you know that you got a good product! The one thing that I would add is that we didn't understand that we would be responsible for painting our foundation once the job was done. Not a big deal at all, but as this was our first concrete project we didn't know what to expect. For as informative as Jeff and Guy were during the planning piece, it was kind of surprising that we weren't walked through the what to expect afterwards part. Also, our yard was a hot mess after they were done. Totally *NOT* their fault. Big machinery + Soaking rains = Deep ruts. Can't be avoided. It just didn't look like the pretty "after" pictures that are posted. Now that the yard has had time to recover, the project looks great! Just a heads up that, if you're like me and expect it to be 100% done when the crew leaves, that's not the case. Mentally prepare yourself for some finishing touches and give the yard time to heal and you'll be so happy.

Jeff Mottern and his crew did an amazing job building a new brick patio for us. We wanted real brick, not concrete pavers, set in sand, not mortared. And we wanted something that felt old and timeless and that would also blend well with the brick around our house. We had three companies provide quotes, but Jeff Mottern had the best sense of what we were looking for--and he had a very reasonable price. Not only that, but he was the only one of the three to provide a quote on the same day he came out (one company took two weeks to send me a quote!). He suggested two different bricks we could consider, but particularly recommended Calvert 237, a hand-made brick that fits exactly what we had in mind. This was a big job, a full week's work, to rip out the old patio, build a new concrete pad reinforced with rebar, mortar a border, and then sand-set the brick for the patio in a herringbone pattern (lots of brick cutting involved). The guys that came every day were careful of our house and property, they answered all my questions, and they did a thorough clean up when they were finished. We are exceptionally pleased with the results. Just sitting out on our patio now is a real pleasure--just looking at the bricks, the pattern in them, and feeling happy about everything. For any future brickwork I need done I'll use Mottern Masonry again for sure.

I am extremely happy with the bluestone patio that Mottern Masonry designed and installed to replace my old paver patio. The crew made sure to choose a variety of colors of stone as I asked and laid them in a beautiful pattern. I smile every time I look out my window! I now look forward to enjoying summers without weeds in my new backyard!

Second project we've had Jeff and his team do, and the result was excellent both times. Jeff helped guide us during the planning phase and made suggestions that we had not considered previously, but are ultimately very happy with. Then his team showed up and produced a great result, giving us a beautiful and functional patio and replacing our crumbling retaining wall.

This is our second time in the past two years hiring Mottern Masonry for a job and we already plan to bring them back for more work in the next few years. They offer fair prices and produce a great finished product. They responded to all emails and calls quickly and knocked out the project on schedule.

Jeff's team did a wonderful job. It was the second time we have worked with him. He gave us good advice on how to proceed and how it would look. The job took a couple days, mostly to let the concrete foundation set. The new brickwork/mortar closely matches the design/type of our walkway and enhanced the entryway to our home. The quality of the work and craftsmanship are evident in both the repairs made and the new brickwork.

Mottern Masonry Design has completed two separate projects at our home during the past year. He started with an 80 year old home and restored areas that make it look like new. The work performed is exacting and exquisite and done at a fair price. A unique feature of working with Jeff is that he made invaluable recommendations as to other craftsmen in the carpentry and iron works trades that allowed us to confidently complete our dreams for the house. All the work performed was done outside and never required entry to the home. Mottern Masonry Design is our “go to” masonry contractor in the future.
