We were impressed with the timely manner they responded to our call and how quickly it was taken care of.
Description of Work: We had a basement flood. Disaster Response cleaned it up quickly and pulled back our new carpet to keep it from getting damaged. They were able to get there fast enough and no major damage was done. They went the extra mile and treated for mold so we wouldn't have any other issues arise. The team installed drying fans and a dehumidifier to ensure the room was dry before reinstalling the new padding and our carpet. His employees were very courteous and knowledgeable about exactly what to do and answered every question I had. Everything they said they were going to do, they did. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will definitely use there services again if I need them.

We had a water pipe burst and our basement flooded. There was damage to the walls, floor, sub-flooring, and mold set in. We called a number of companies that say they do water damage remediation and none were as responsive as Disaster Response. We had to wait a few hours, but it was worth it because the technician was professional, answered all of our questions, and handled our problem in the most efficient and non-intrusive way possible. They took care of everything and when the job was done, you would never know there had ever been a problem. They were fast, worked with our insurance and we were very happy with the whole process. We recommend Disaster Response completely and we will definitely call them again and tell our friends, should the need ever arise.

The project manager was on site within a few hours of my initial contact and took the time to explain the process to me and get all the information to create a job estimate. I had the estimate a few hours later and the crew arrived first thing the next morning to perform the work: remove carpet padding on second floor, remove damaged ceiling drywall on first floor, dry out the house. The crew was very professional and treated of all my belongings as I would. Everything was tarped with plastic sheeting or moved out of the way. They cleaned as they worked and again when they were done. The job took exactly as long as was predicted and by its completion there was no evidence they had been there, other than the missing ceiling. The employees of Disaster Response were very professional and friendly and although I hope I never have to, I would hire this company again no questions asked. Currently evaluating contractors for reconstruction work, will update the review if I choose Disaster Response for that phase of the work.

What a great team, we arrived at our new home with boxes in the car and was greeted with water flowing out of the garage down the driveway from the mudroom. The water had traveled to the kitchen, dining room and basement. My husband and I cleaned up the best we could for that evening. The following day we called Disaster Response and Pedro was with us within a couple of hours. Within another hour our house was full of industrial dehumidifiers and fans (it would of been quieter sat on a aircraft runway) What a great helpful team, Pedro was our lead and he was professional, competent and comforting. He managed the job thoroughly and provided us with advice for a way forward. I hope not to have to use Disaster response again, but in the event of a accident within the home I would definitely call Disaster Response.

I called them the morning after a heavy storm which left our carpeted basement very wet. They arrived within hours to vacuum the water and install dryer fans. They came back several times over the following two weeks to check on the dryness and brought in more equipment. It is now done and our basement is good as new.

While we really appreciated the timeliness and service, we felt the pricing was higher than expected; in addition, though we asked for an itemized receipt many times we never recieved it. Both our insurance agent and an independent contractor questioned the cost for the clean-up based on the many cases they has handled over the years; namely, our agent concurred that the daily cost of the equipment should be around $400, but not $1000 as originally estimated; he based the $400/day rental approximating $50 per fan per day, $50 per humidifier per day, and $75 per air purifier per day. He did not concur with the $2800 for the initial clean-up and estimated it to be more around $1200-$1400; he based that lower estimate on the following: that emergency fees are usually $200; that no hoses were used; there was no carpet, dry-wall, or sheet rock that was damaged and exposed; there was no extraction; that anti-corrosive costs are usually $0.10 per sq. ft.; that the sump pump we separately purchased for $900 did the vast bulk of the flood remediation as opposed to the initial pump with the nylon hose that flowed to our toilet and the small pump that was later used with our garden hose; hours spent at our home, approximately 3 hrs on 4/30, 3 hrs on 5/1, ½ hr on 5/2, and 1 hr on 5/5; as well as the cost of removal of the soiled goods, approximately 10-15 trash bags, but no bulky furniture or anything that required two men (the mattress still remains as well as some other smaller goods in the basement). I also contacted another contractor who specializes in flood remediation and he also thought the initial clean-up bill was very high, and also estimated it between $1200-$1400.

Dear member, I'm sorry that you feel the prices we charge for our service are high but we did give you a price up front based on a specific scope of work. The guesses made by the insurance representative are wildly inaccurate and represent only a fraction of what we did for your family. We use a pricing platform approved by virtually every insurance company in town specifically so that we can avoid confusion and unneeded stress for our customers. We are sorry your claim was denied by your insurance provider. That does not change the substantial effort of man and equipment required to protect your home from complications resulting from your flood in which more than 4,000 gallons of water was removed from your home. As you can see by the other excellent reviews, we are a quality service organization and pride ourselves on offering the best service for a fair price. This review is not consistent with our general customer feedback and reflects a misunderstanding driven by a third party who was not privy to all the details and complexities of your job. Sincerely, Thomas Mitchell President Disaster Response Inc

We had an EXCELLENT experience with John Polinsky at Disaster Response. He provided the BEST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. I called on a Saturday expecting a return call on Monday. My basement had flooded a few days before and I already had a service call scheduled with Serv Pro for this day but I figured it would be good to have 2 quotes. Well, John called me back immediately and said he was in the area and wanted to stop by. He tested the walls for water saturation (they were saturated) and told us what needed to be done. Meanwhile, ServPro never called and never showed up for their appointment. Disaster Response came the next day (Sunday) and pulled up the baseboards of the affected walls, set up industrial sized fans and a dehumidifier to dry the area out. The entire work was completed in a few days.. John was very responsive and patient with us and we connected him multiple times. He went over the bill for us when we had specific questions. I would definitely recommend this company.

Very impressed with the work that this company did. After our basement flooded for the 2nd time, we wanted to use ServiClean, Inc. because we were very happy with their work the first time our basement flooded. However, ServiClean could not make it to the house until a week later. With water sitting in the basement, it was not feasible to wait that long. So, I got on Angie's List and found Disaster Response. They had really good reviews so I took a chance. I called on Thursday and Danielle promptly responded with a promise to make it out there and assess the damage. They were inundated with flooded homes but found time to squeeze me in. John came out first and quickly assessed what work needed to be done, including knocking down the wooden bar to remove the flooring underneath (which the previous company did not suggest). His team came out late Friday night and got the job done. Chris was awesome. His professionalism, friendly disposition, and communication with us was outstanding. He made a very difficult and stressful situation for us much more bearable and felt confident that out basement was in very good hands. He and his partner were thorough, quick, and neat. With a baby in the house, we were nervous about the noise but they were as quiet as they possibly could be and just got the job done. Hopefully, we don't ever need to use this type of service again, but if we do, Disaster Response and more specifically, Chris, is who we would call to our rescue immediately!

Pedro was our service person and he was FABULOUS. He called throughout his journey through traffic to our home to update us on his arrival time. He was courteous, professional, competent and comforting. He managed the job thoroughly on his own and was able to give us an appropriate estimate, helping us save where we could. He has since been back to remove the equipment and each subsequent visit he was equally as courteous and responsible. We wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

I found Disaster Response on Angies List and was excited to find a company that was certified by ACAC for mold remediation. It was clear from the reviews that the headquarters are located in Sterling, VA. but there is a listing for the Maryland division. I called the 800 number that was listed under the Baltimore office. Even though I called after 5 p.m. I was promplty connected with a pleasant representative. She informed me that the Baltimore division is no longer in business and that the VA company does not service my area of Maryland. She did offer two references, but needless to say, I'm disappointed that my research time and interest in this company was of no use. The two references were not certified in mold remediation. An important note to other reviewers is this: The license number they list is for VA and is not the MHIC number. In addition, I learned from my many hours of research to look for a remediation company that displays the IICRC certification logo as an indication of the proper training of their individuals. This is very important for mold remediation.

The folks at Disaster Response, Inc. are awesome! You always hope you never need their services but if you do, you?ll be glad they?re there. The day we woke up to a flooded basement (due to a neighbor?s broken water pipe), we called Disaster Response, Inc. Vicky answered and was very nice and professional. She explained there were a lot of broken pipes due to the freezing weather so they weren?t going to be able to get a mitigation team out until the next day. But she told me this up front and offered the option to call someone else if I needed immediate response. Since we had gotten the neighbor?s water cut off, it was just a cleanup/mitigation issue so we could wait. Danelle Livingston was able to come out that day to size up the job. She showed up when scheduled. She walked us through what would happen and promised to get a team out the next day. She also offered to work directly with our insurance if we wished. She had a positive attitude and put our mind at rest that they would handle everything as fast and efficiently as possible. This was the first good thing that happened to us that day. The mitigation team arrived the next day as promised led by Bill. They looked at the damage, explained what they would be doing, and what to expect. They removed the water, the baseboards, the damaged drywall, and applied a biodegradable anti-microbial agent. Of course to get to all of this they had to move lots of furniture and boxes. Bill and his team member were very courteous and professional. They placed several fans and a large dehumidifier. Bill came out a few days later to check on the progress and determined most equipment could be removed but found a couple of spots still needing fans and the dehumidifier. Though he knew we?d prefer to get the fans out, he wanted to ensure the job was done right. During these few days I periodically called the office and spoke with Sara. No matter how many times I called or what questions I had, she was always friendly, professional, and never made me feel like I was bothering her. I cannot imagine any company that could have done a better job. The fact that everyone I dealt with was courteous and professional is a plus. And when I got the bill, the price was much better than I anticipated. This was great news as we chose to pay for it ourselves rather than file with our insurance. I really hope I never need their services again. But if I do, Disaster Response, Inc is the only team I will call.

A neighbor's water heater/plumbing leaked and caused water to leak into my bedroom on a Saturday night. I called numerous companies in the area, and Disaster Response was the only one to call me back . The next day (Sunday) Pedro arrived promptly and removed the wet carpet pad and a moldy tack strip. He set up dryers to dry out my wet carpet. Pedro came back the next day to check on the drying status (Monday, also a holiday). Once of the machines wasn't functioning properly, and another member of his team came within an hour to replace it. The only minus was the picking up of the drying machines - I probably only needed 3 days of drying. There was a snow storm in the middle of the week, so there was some understandable delays. Pedro scheduled to have someone pick up the drying machines on Friday. When they were late, I called Pedro to check on the status and discovered they were called off to another emergency without notifying me. Pedro did guarantee that someone (if not himself) come on Saturday to pick up the drying machines and they did. Very happy with Pedro! I haven't yet seen the bill for the services they performed, as it was submitted directly to my insurance.

Sara answered my call politely, Tom Mitchell and his senior project manager, Jose Mejia arrived within a few hours to assess. Our problem turned out to be very minor, one that could easily be fixed with no major cosmetic damage to our kitchen, the base cabinet was repaired , the drywall and slightly damaged wood replaced, the wall repair is being completed now and once the painting is finished we will be good as new. Thank you Jose and Juan for all your hard work!

Description of Work: Nothing, flooding occurred on a Saturday. Insurance directed me to call flood damage company. They were in the top of the ratings so I called them. The woman who answered took my information and brief description of the water damage. There was then a short pause and she asked me "what is this call in reference to?" Repeated the same information provided seconds earlier and was told someone would be in contact with me shortly. 48 hours later, nothing. I will call someone else.

They started in July and they are still working. Well initially we had mold through a water leak inside our house. So we had mold in the basement and all of that. So they started out mitigating it which they did a superb job. They had air scrubbers in, they had the humidifiers, they took out all of the wall boards in our basement and some of the wood flooring in first floor because there was mold underneath. They were very neat, very clean. They portioned the house off so we could live and after they got the initial part done and air clear on the first floor we were able to move back in and up to there, they were wonderful and then it hit the fan. Because we were in such a turmoil, we had been kicked out of our house we signed a contract with them to reconstruct our home. The contracts were signed in September. terrific and perfect. After all this mold was out and the mitigation was done, they did an excellent job with that. They got all of the wall board downstairs, I mean superb. They cleaned up everything. Now the problem is they are rebuilding our house. They had to move all of our furniture out to put in new wood floors. Take out all of the wood floors and put in new ones. Their subcontractors are awful. I don,'t know if they are cutting corners, if they don't have as he said a tool kit to or a piece to pull from but the work so far especially the wood floors have been shotty and we are very upset. We have been on the phone with our insurance agents, the disaster response guy, the contract we signed was that all this would be done within six to eight weeks, they haven't touched the basement. They have not done anything and we have family coming over for Christmas and we haven't gotten our furniture back from storage and finally after last week we are living on the first floor. But the people who put in the floors left all of the dust and it was dirty and it was filthy, everything, and usually people that put in floors clean up after themselves. And then they missed the base floors, didn't cover that, didn't finish that and now there is spots all over the floors. We signed with them because they started out so good and promoting but now, we don't know who to call. They are the most promising people in the area, they promise you everything and they don't deliver. We put it in writing for them but we are not going to let them do the basement. They are obligated to do what was not completed at the time. We had two uncompleted rooms. We are going to finish them but we will pay for them ourselves. We were going to have them do all that. We were going to put in a bar downstairs , we were going to have them do that but no more. We are doing that because we are not obligated for them to do anymore than just reconstruct what was there before the problem. So them have lost some business there but we have some good contacts, we just said, you just better have quality people because this is ridiculous. We just kind of put them on notice. The mitigation was terrific, the clean up after that, our basement was spotless. I mean you could see all the way through it because the walls were put down, but the dust or whatever, perfect, it's just that they don't have good people to call for, for reconstruction. I see they had wonderful ratings on Angies List, that's how we chose them, maybe people didn't have them reconstruct. For the disaster mediation, A pluses, but it was the reconstruction that i would give them a D.

Generally clueless, people! I spoke with someone for 30 minutes around 5:30 in the evening on 10/09/2013 and had a confirmed appointment for 11:00 AM / 11:30 AM on 10/10/2013, the next day. I just spoke with a different lady at 2:30 on 10/10/2013 wondering why they have not shown up or called and she indicated because she did not have me scheduled. She eventually found the paper with my name on it but still could not give good answer of why no one showed up or called. After re-discussing my problem she indicated that they would have to cut drywall to look for dampness since I have no visible damage. She could not give me any estimate of how much that might cost --- no approximation. The lady on the first day gave me assurances that the crew would come with a thermal camera and look for dampness. The second lady seemed skeptical the thermal camera would work and what they really needed to do was "search and destroy." Anyway, the second lady was not very pleasant. Clearly I am annoyed since I have wasted all day waiting for them!

Dear Member, I am sorry we did not do a better job hitting our window, and more importantly keeping in touch with as the day progressed. Thermal cameras are great for ice damming leaks, detection with twenty foot high walls or ceilings, and epdm roofs. I prefer non penetrating moisture meters, much less interpretation, more accuracy. I had a small water problem in my basement that ended up affecting about a 3' x 9' wide patch of carpet and pad. My husband and I cut out and removed the wet padding and disposed of it in our trash can. When I called Disaster Response, Inc. they stated they could have someone there around 1:00PM. They called later to say that the crew would be delayed. I did not have a problem with that as they did come around 4:30PM. They checked my walls for moisture and they seemed to be within the right humidity range. They sprayed anti-fungal around the affected area and brought in 1 fan and 1 humidifier. I asked the person how much it would cost, but he didn't give me a formal quote and was unsure given that he didn't think the fan and humidifier needed to be there more than 2 days. He cut out a piece of the padding to take with him to find the right one to reinstall. He led me to believe that they would be back to fix the carpet when they picked up the equipment. They called me to let me know that they would be coming which was two days later. I stayed home from work so I could be there when they arrived. Two crew showed up, but they were only there to pick up the equipment. I asked about when they would fix the carpet, but they stated that I would have to call the office. I called and was told someone would get back to me. I was contacted the next week by a different person who asked if I would be home for him to come by. I assumed that he was the person who was coming to replace the padding and reattach and stretch the carpet. When he came, he stated that he was only there to get a check from me for the services they already provided, i.e. spraying, cleaning the small area, and for the equipment. I told him that I thought that that was kind of an irregular process. He was very nice and professional, but said that was the way they do it and that to replace the padding and fix the carpet, it would be an additional charge. I told him I was never given a formal quote or told that was the process and that the equipment wasn't even in place for a full two days. I asked him why they had not come back to finish the job and he stated he wasn't sure. He looked at the padding and said that it was one they don't typically carry. He cut out another piece of padding even though they already did that at the first visit. I told him I was very disappointed in the way they had handled the job. He said he would see what he could do to have the job completed without additional charge. He called later and left me a message stating that since they didn't typically carry the padding I have, they would have to charge me $175 to complete the job which was on top of the $452.13 I already paid them. I have unfortunately had water issues in the past of a much larger magnitude that required removing and replacing the padding and fixing the carpet and the price was not that much more than they charged. I have since decided to have a carpet service company finish the work. The quote I received was less than the $175. I used Disaster Response, Inc.based upon the Angie's list rating, so I am very disappointed in the service, but most disappointed in the way they handled the quote, two-price billing, and lack of concern for customer satisfaction.

Response from DR Restore
Dear Member, I am sorry you were frustrated, unfortunately the mitigation phase has many elements and is impacted greatly by job site conditions. How materials respond, one day or three days to dry? I don't know, I might get close but its just a guess until you introduce science and time. Restoration is the use of a variety of methods to reach a desired end result. How materials will respond, is to be determined, thats the nature of disaster mitigation work. Our pricing is from the same platform almost all insurance repair contractors use, in fact you were not charged what you should have been. It does sound like we did mitigate damage and saved your carpet. I am happy that you found an installer who could do the job for less than our cost. Sincerely, Thomas Mitchell President Disaster Response Inc.

We unfortunately had two sewage back-ups in our basement in the span of 6 weeks. We used Disaster Response for both, and can't be more satisfied. The second back-up was really difficult for us since we had just (on our own) refinished our basement after the first back-up. We spoke to Danielle both times this happened - I can't express how wonderful she was. She is calm, reassuring, answers all your questions, gets someone out to your house ASAP, and works with you on final cost, payment, etc. Danielle made sure someone came out to the house within about 3 hours of us calling. When they showed up, the team was professional, kind, and took care of all the mess and problem quickly but completely. They removed all the damaged carpet and then tested the walls to find areas with damage and removed the sheetrock in those areas. They then thoroughly cleaned not only the affected parts of my floor, but also cleaned some of the non-damaged areas (since this was sewage) to make sure nothing had been tracked into the rest of the house. They then set up fans and dehumidifiers that run for about 3 days. The company comes daily to check to make sure the area is drying as expected. Both times this has happened, Disaster Response has put us at ease and done an excellent job making sure everything is clean and taken care of. Though the entire team is wonderful, our main point of contact (Danielle) really made a huge difference to us. She was so kind and made a bad situation seem less terrible. At the end of the day, the bill they sent us was fair and very reasonable considering everything they did for us. We highly recommend this company. We will use them again in the future (since no plumber seems to be able to fix our problem), Disaster Response has found themselves a life-long customer.

Adam at Disaster Recovery was a life saver for us. With heavy rains on the night of February 1, 2013, our outdoor drain backed up and water made its way into our newly finished basement. Depth-wise it wasn't much water, but it was spread out throughout the basement and since it happened overnight, enough time had passed for the water to be wicked up into the insulation and drywall. Upon Adam's arrival, I had just received the call back from our home insurance providers, which informed us that we didn't have coverage for this scenario. Adam was patient since I didn't want them to start until I worked things out with the insurance company (which nothing was covered). Where I really felt the "value add" of his service was in describing what he was doing and why it was important. Not that you'd expect it from someone who deals with people on some of their "worst days", but he was actually quite empathetic to our plight and was calm and informative. Disaster Recovery didn't charge to come out, only for the services they provided.
