He is clearly an expert in his field - he is knowledgeable, professional, pleasant, and above all else, honest. He could easily have taken the job, done the work (and I have no doubt it would have been flawlessly performed), and charged me for it - an amount he admitted would be more than I would pay from a painting crew. He said (and I agreed) that if I was planning to remain in the house, an expert repair might be called for if I wanted a historic-preservation level repair. I truly appreciated his candor, thoroughness and honesty. As a woman homeowner, I often feel at the mercy of contractors but I felt I was "in good hands" with Mr. Patterson. Although I ended up not using him/his services, I highly recommend him to anyone seeking an honest and thorough assessment of any plastering needs.

They were prompt and professional in setting up the visit, completing the initial estimate process, scheduling the work to be done, and executing the work. Every note I sent was answered by the next day, and they were ready to work the very next week after receiving the deposit. Overall much higher level of customer service than the other two contractors I contacted for estimates. All of the work was completed in just two days, as they had promised. The work moved swiftly and they never impacted anybody (we have little kids running around) else in the house. The area was left spotless after they were done after both days, with all materials neatly stacked and all furniture returned to original placements. At this point looking at the area, it is hard to imagine what the drywall looked like just a week ago. This company and its workers are great, and we will definitely contact them again for future work.

I called the company on 1/23/13 and spoke with Julie. I told her what I needed and she got Hugo out there the next day to look over the area that needed the drywall repaired and to provide me an estimate. Both Julie and Hugo were extremely polite and professional. Hugo even managed to squeeze me into his schedule. The whole experience was quite pleasant - there was promptness, courtesy, pleasantness, and good workmanship all the way around. I would highly recommend this company.

Very professional and pleasant to work with. After getting estimate and completing contract, work was scheduled to begin about 2-3 weeks later. Work started and finished on time and on budget. The contractors were very experienced and explained everything to me and offered helpful suggestions. They arrived each morning, went straight to work and then cleaned up before leaving each afternoon. I highly recommend them and will definitely use again in the future.

I had a water leak that ruined a part of my kitchen ceiling. Dave Patterson was terrific from start to finish. He showed up when he said he would and the finished repair job blends in perfectly. Besides fixing the leak, he spent time with me to explain the process he was using. I would not hesitate to use him again.

DS Patterson was great. Dave came out and provided a very fair estimate, and pointed out work I could do myself to cut down on his number of trips, which I appreciated. We were able to schedule the project quickly, and the work was done well, on time, and for a fair price. I was very pleased with the job.

David gave me an estimate on all of the repairs and then worked with me so I could fit as much into my budget amount. He broke the work into 2 jobs to work around Thanksgiving. He was always punctual and worked by himself each day. He cleaned up at the end of the job. Part of a wall needed to be replaced after we found mold when I removed some old wallpaper. As a result the job took an extra day (which he factors in when giving an estimate of the length of the job) and did not require any extra payment to cover the extra material needed. He did not require any deposit and said that he would take my payments only after the work was completed and I was 100% satisfied with his work. I was.

DS Patterson did a fantastic job from start to finish - 100% happy. John was very professional and completed the work quickly and made everything look great. We would definitely use them again.

Pat Neary always arrived when expected. He was professional in all aspects - he is very casual and unassuming in his approach to the work. Pat was able to provide alternatives and worked well with my informal descriptions of the work I wanted completed. I had absolutely no concerns leaving him to work while we were out of town. The quality of work, price, and service were excellent. I would certainly recommend D.S. Patterson, and in particular, Pat Neary, again.

I called for an estimate on my rental property where the tenant had allowed water damage to go on for years, totally destroying the plaster on a bedroom wall. Bob met me at time convient for me and I had an estimate repairing that wall and several other plaster issues through out the house. He came in and got all the work done in a single day. Later the next week, i had heating work done and the contractor discovered a leaking pipe, requiring he cut out a section of ceiling in the room below. Again, bob came when I called, provided an estimate and had the work done the next day. The repair job looks great and as I own several houses with plaster walls i'm sure i will be calling them again.

Hugo did a great job! Holes were cut into soffit and ceiling to diagnose/repair a plumbing issue. Hugo showed up on time and ready to work. He completed the demo to remove damaged/moldy drywall and discovered moldy drywall from a previous leak. When additional work was identified outside of the original estimated repair DS Patterson did not try to take advantage of the situation and gave me a fair deal to complete the job. Hugo worked efficiently and cleaned up at the end of each day. He completed the work in a timely manner despite it nearly doubling in scope. I would recommend DS Patterson and Hugo to family and friends without reservation.

All in all the work was done, but they did need to come back out to redo several spots.

He did a beautiful job, and it is still here after the earthquake we had.

Completed work over two days and came back a week later to repair a couple of cracks which developed after priming. 100% satisfied with the workmanship and professionalism. We will definitely be calling them back for all future drywall taping and mudding in the future without even trying to do it ourselves first.

D S Patterson Co Inc did excellent work all the way round. They did a good job of letting me know what it was going to cost and what they were going to do. They were clean and the work was done well.

I've been around the block myself many times and know most of the lingo, angles, tricks and traps of contracting work on a home. And, I've taken the community school contracting licensing classes and heard contractors discuss openly and candidly trade practices and tales both good and bad. I had removed completely the drywall on all the walls and ceiling of a 14' by 14' (general dimensions) kitchen, made a few minor wall configuration changes, and required replacement of all drywall surfaces, both walls and ceiling and accommodating electrical, plumbing, and HVAC services, to a paintable state. My first round bidders were all-encompassing home improvement type companies providing the full range of contracting services, or nearly so, selected from Angie's list but endorsed by word-of-mouth recommendations. This failed miserably as the bids were too high, in my opinion, for both the scale (small) and complexity (challenging by simple enough) of the work required. I returned to Angie's list and selected only contractors performing one primary skill: dry wall. Of the three, D. S. Patterson as represented by Patrick Neary, who was both preparing the bid and doing the work, immediately won my confidence. He listened to and verified my requirements, asked detailed questions, offered suggestions, and provided a verbal summary of both the work and the anticipated schedule. And, as evidence of a contracting pro, he would not commit to the work or discuss price until he had prepared and sent me the bid proposal. I received the proposal by email the next day and was most pleased with the price of $1,200, $900 less than the lowest bid from the first round of bidders. I accepted the proposal and the work commenced as scheduled from start to finish. Yes, the terms of the contract were met to my complete satisfaction having done exactly what I had requested. I will add that I did see a few things I decided to change or improve upon afterwards, but those minor changes were facilitated easily because of the quality work performed by Mr. Neary from the start. Anticipating that every remodel requires some changes along the way, Mr. Neary showed me how apply "mud" correctly and even left some of his special mix to do the job. This was a contracting experience worth repeating again and again.

The overall experience was fantastic. From the beginning all of the communication from Dave and Julie were timely and always so pleasant. We had intially thought we would do the work in 2010 but due to an addition to our family we pushed the work off for a year. We had the estimates on the work done twice with a few contractors come out to offer estimates and solutions. Dave came out a second time to refamiliarize himself with the work and both times he came out he was so professional and provided us with a very detailed explanation of how he would go about doing the work. The other contractors that we had come out just didn't make us feel as comfortable as Dave did. We could tell that the work that he would provide to us would be top of the line. And we were right!! Dave is meticulous and very detail oriented. He just finished up today (1 day ahead of schedule) and the ceiling looks absolutely beautiful! What he does is art, and you can tell he puts a lot of care and pride in to the work that he does. He is surprisingly neat and clean for the type of work that he does which I appreciate because it will make my life a lot easier on the back end! He also is very accomodating. Due to the location of the work that we had done a lot of our living space was involved. He asked if there were specific things that we would need access to throughout the job being done, he listened and made sure that we had access to those things at the end of each day. We have already asked Dave to provide us with an esimate to smooth out another textured ceiling in our home because we are so happy with his work. We would absolutely recommend him to anyone that is looking to have this type of project done in their home.

Absolutely outstanding. This was a very urgent project for us, and they showed up the same day for an estimate, and reshuffled their schedule to get the job -- a very big one -- completed within three days. Hugo was wonderful -- he not only did an excellent job for a very good price, he also cleaned up after himself each day -- sweeping, and setting aside the floor covering, then wet mopped when he was finished, leaving the floors spotless (this was a very messy, sandy job!).

Dave is simply the best contractor that we have dealt with throughout our entire renovation project. We called for an estimate and Dave was available to come out immediately. He was extremley knowledgable about plaster, and older/historic homes in general. Based on our interaction with him we were confident that he would fix our plaster correctly the first time, and that we wouldn't have to worry about cracks and bubbles showing up again anytime soon. He sent us a formal written estimate that afternoon via email, which included the cost and estimated start/completion dates. Fortunately for us, Dave had a cancelation and was able to fit us in the next week. Once Dave began working it became apparent that the damage to our plaster was more involved than originally anticipated. As a result, he was forced to drywall and then plaster over some areas. Consequently, the project ended up taking him longer, and costing him much more, than anticipated. However, Dave never complained, even though this required him to show up on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Moreover, we had some walls in our open kitchen that were also a little rough, and Dave smoothed those over for us, at no additional cost, without us even asking. Dave was meticulous in terms of his work, and in terms of cleaning up--I am pretty sure the house was left even cleaner than when he started. The walls look fantastic, and I am confident that they will continue to look so for years to come. Plaster is difficult to deal with. If fixed improperly, it will continue to give you issues for years to come. If you want your plaster fixed correctly the first time, call Dave.
