Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List deal - $100.00 for $200.00 worth of blinds - from Blinds For Less. Ellen Goodman contacted me the following day to set up an appointment. I selected the one-inch vinyl mini-blinds. Ellen then measured all my windows (four in the living room and five in the kitchen) and used her color wheel to match the blinds to the color of my window trim. I paid half the total down that day with the remaining due the day of installation. Four weeks later they were professionally installed by Gary Harman in about an hour and a half. They replaced old, worn-out black-out shades original to the house. I'm thrilled with the new, brighter atmosphere of both rooms! I would definitely hire Blinds For Less again.

It took 3 calls before I got a call back and an app't set. I was told the blinds would be delivered within 3 weeks, instead I never got call indicating a problem with delivery. I called and left a message May 15th, I received a return call on Sunday May 19th at 9:09 P.M. to schedule the next day. I could not do the Monday as there was a conflict with my schedule so the blinds were installed Tuesday, May 21st. I like the blinds, however, if I wish to purchase anymore in the future, I'll go elsewhere.

First I am glad that [member name removed] is satisfied with the product I suggested to cover his windows. They do exactly what he wanted and the price was acceptble. As far as taking 3 phone calls to make an appointment I believe we called eachother a few times and left messages before we connected to make an appointment. I met with [member name removed] April 15. I told [member name removed] that my installer was leaving for two weeks starting April 30 returning May 16 and I did not know if the blinds would be delivered in time for my installer do the installation before he left. I told [member name removed] my installer would be returning May 16 and the installation would take place as soon as he retunred. He said he understood. They even said that "he deserved a vacation and that was fine". I did get a call from [member name removed] asking about the installation and i did speak to my installer regarding their job and he followed up with [member name removed] as soon as was possible. As [member name removed] stated in his comment my installer did call him the Sunday afer he returned. That Mon. was not convenient for [member name removed]. As a result the installation took place the next day, Tuesday. As you see I receieved high grades for quality, punctuality, professionalism and price. All of which are very important for maintaining a successful business. I have been in business for over 27 years and if there is a glitch at times I feel badly about it. The entire process went quite smoothly. The blinds were not cheap, but good quality. She did sent me the paper work for a Hunter Douglas rebate that I qualified for.
Description of Work: I needed new shades for my very large bedroom window. I wasn't sure what I wanted, nor how to measure for three adjacent windows. I called Ellen and we set a date for a few days later. She arrived on time with her Hunter Douglas sample books. We selected one that I liked very much. She also said she could provide retractable shades for the sky lights in my bedroom (who every thought skylights in a bedroom were a good idea!) They have worked out very well. She has a trusted installer that she has used for years.

Ellen squeezed me in for an estimate since I explained how badly I needed window coverings for two large inconveniently placed windows. She gave me an estimate based on the outside of the window which was easier to reach but said she needed to get a precise measure to actually place the order. There was a lull between these two events which delayed the order an extra week. Once on order, Ellen volunteered that there was a rebate on these shades and she sent me the necessary paper work to receive this rebate. After the customary waiting time my shades arrived, were installed by Gary and look great and since they are motorized they are a cinch to operate.
Description of Work: Ultimately very satisfied with this company..the owner did everything she could to make the job go smoothly...long delay between the initial ordering and measuring for the shades..this was due to the high location of the windows. I was anxious to receive them since we were in the middle of our hottest summer and they have made a huge difference.I would definitely use this company again Also, the owner gave me the solution for repairing a shade that was still serviceable but needed a new cord. It cost me less than half of a new shade for this repair. I am quite pleased with the result.

Generally, it went very well. Ellen did make a mistake in the measurement for the sliding glass door treatment, but the installer took corrective measures, and 3 weeks later, we had our new treatment installed. There was never any argument. I might also add he was prompt, very clean, and knew exactly what he was doing. Although we were a small job, they were very quick on the installation. I would recommend Ellen in a heartbeat to everyone.

Based on the Angie's List rating and the proximity to where I live i called up Blinds for Less. I found Ms. Goodman to be highly informative, articulate, and knowledgeable. The price for the Hunter Douglas Duette honeycomb shades was excellent. Her installer was pleasant, punctual, and had my 5 shades installed in less than 45 minutes. I would highly recommend Blinds for Less.

I had a positive experience with Ms Goodman. She runs a small business so it is a rather more informal experience than buying from a "regular" store. I believe she only works with Hunter Douglas products. After I reached out to her, Ms Goodman came to my home, and discussed my situation/requirements for window blinds with me. She took measurements and gave me some feedback about why she recommended doing things slightly differently than I had planned (faux wood vs real wood, how to handle double windows). I took her advice on those matters and I think that was the right choice, After measuring, she walked me through her estimate, which was quite a bit less than another provider which has a brick and mortar store. I then had a significant delay of several months (on my end - I had to pay for roof repairs and this project went on the back burner). When I contacted Ms Goodman she was able to pull up my records easily and place my order for blinds. Her installer came out about 4 weeks later to do the installation. He was professional and quick. The only challenges we experienced with this contractor was an appointment scheduling mix up and a problem with my faux wood blinds not being delivered correctly. Apparently Hunter Douglas messed up the order and the 2 bathroom blinds were not delivered correctly. Ms Goodman was able to contact the company and get replacements ordered and out to my home within 1.5 weeks. My blinds look great and the installation was very smooth excepting the ordering problem. Though this was an inconvenience it was resolved quickly. I do think it was a pretty rare occurrence and could happen with a big store as well - and for me the cost savings made it worth it!

Sales side went smoothly - Ms. Goodman came to my home, measured my windows, and made great recommendations, though I already had a strong sense of what I wanted. Everything after the sale went downhill. The turnaround was supposed to take two to three weeks, but ended up taking nearly two months. I had to call Ms. Goodman twice (after three weeks, and then again in the fourth week) to inquire about the status of my blinds before hearing from the installer. The installer arrived promptly once the appointment was made, but struck me as careless and incomplete. For instance, though Ms. Goodman assured me that the installer would remove all former window treatment hardware (from the prior homeowner), I had to repeatedly request that the installer do so. He also mounted wooden blinds on two adjacent windows unevenly, and, upon adjusting a honeycomb blind, he broke a major adjustment piece on pull cord. He was only able to replace the broken piece by borrowing from a shade that was incorrectly ordered - I received a blackout when I had requested a semi-opaque. Rectifying this situation took an additional two and a half weeks, most of which was characterized by my calling Ms. Goodman and only sometimes receiving a return phone call. Upon requesting an itemized bill - which was not prepared initially - I had to ask about the difference in cost between the semi-opaque shade, which I had ordered, and the blackout shade, which I initially received. Only after asking about this differential in price was my final bill reduced. Would not use again.
Description of Work: Measured 11 windows to install blinds for a recently purchased home. Receiving the correct blinds took two months instead of two weeks (as promised), and installer broke one shade and installed two others unevenly.

I had an appointmwnt with the member om Fri. 10/15. The member had done her homework and knew what she wanted. I priced out her job and she was thrilled with the price I gave her. As a result she added on 2 blinds that she did not intend to order due to my excellent pricing. I always ask the customer if they would like an itemized bill and she said no, "just list 11 blinds" which I did. I told her the installation would be in about 3 weeks. As it happened my installer was out of own at one point and the installation took place the fourth week. Yes, one shade had to be replaced. I spoke to the member and told her I was taking care of it and she "appreciated my getting back to her so quickly". I received the replacement shade and called to arrange to come out and replace the shade. She was going out of town that weekend and I was leaving Nov. 22nd for the week. I returned the 27th. She called Mon. the 29th. I returned her call and I replaced the shade this past Sat. 12/4 as another date during the week was not possible. She also requested an itemized bill at this time which I gave her. She then paid me the balance due, plus I also gave her the block-out shade. As for the broken piece on a shade that was installed, things happen. Perhaps the piece was defective I do not know. Yes, she asked the difference between the cost of the opaque shade and the semi-opaque shade before I told her the difference. She paid me the balance due for the job, which also included the full price for the two additional shades which she ordered after she wrote the check for the deposit. I told her "no prtoblem, you can just put the additional two shades on the balance due". I thought that would be easier for her as she did not have to write an addtional check. My installer removed all the existing hardware from the previous shades that were in the house and the member requested him to remove ALL hradware that was around the windows that had nothing to do with this order. ie,. curtain hardware. He charged me as it is his time and not his repsonsibilty to remove everything. I dd not charge the member for this additional service. I am sorry to learn that the member was not satisfied with my service. I have been in this business for 24 years and I have a very good reputation. I I would not be as successful as I am if I did not fulfill my professional obligations and expectations. People who subscribe to Angie's List can read the excellent reports from others and go from there. She is fine. She brought all the samples with her so I could choose from home and see the way colors match. They were very prompt with the installation. Their installer was wonderful. I've used them six different times. I've spent $2,500 between May 2006 and September 2009. They don't take charge cards. She was terrific. They are a little more expensive than other franchises but they are worth it because they bring everything to the house.

We live in a penthouse condo with very large windows looking out on our balcony. The largest is 145"" by 109"". When we moved in, there were no window coverings at all. We found Blinds for Less on Angie's List and sent an e-mail asking for an assessment. Ellen Goodman responded to our message within one day, and she came to visit us shortly thereafter. We had been considering wooden blinds, but she pointed out that the weight of the blinds wasn't practical for our large windows. She steered us toward honeycomb shades for the living room and dining room, and pinpoint, sheer shades for the bedrooms. During the selection process, Ellen held samples up to our walls so that we could evaluate the colors. She helped us as needed but let us make our own decisions without influence. In fact, after we chose a couple of samples, she pointed out that we had picked the less expensive option. She also did not charge us for the assessment visit. The installer (Gary) came within the next few weeks and was equally efficient and professional. In fact, after the installation we discovered that one end of a shade cassette had come loose because of the difficulty in finding anchor points in our ceiling. We called Gary, and he returned and fixed the problem promptly. We have had no problems since. We couldn't be more pleased with our shades and with the professional advice and service of Blinds for Less.

Ellen came over and took thorough measurements of all the windows in my house. I liked that she doesn't use subcontractors for installation, but her prices were still $1000 more than Next Day Blinds. She was not able to give me an estimate for about three days after the visit to my home.

She was efficient and she gave a timely response. She showed us appropriate samples and gave us ideas that we liked. We gave her a deposit and three weeks later the job was completed. The price was well below Sears and Home Depot even though they carried the same material.

I was very pleased with the service. It was great having the samples so they could be looked at in the room where the shades would be. Ellen was knowledgeable, professional, and prompt in responding to my calls and setting up an appointment. The price was less than retail, but a bit higher than ordering online; however, given the excellent customer service in selecting the shades and having them installed, it was well worth the additional cost.
