+ 0 moreAutumn Electric was one of several electricians we met with to help us determine the best way to clean up existing wiring issues and help us with improvements as part of a larger home renovation project. Dave was prompt in responding, very thorough and professional in his walk-through, and detailed in his proposal/estimate. For all of these reasons, we decided to move forward with them for our work, which was comprised of a two-part project. We were fortunate enough to be assigned Phil as the Master Electrician on both projects. He was INCREDIBLE!! Not only was he friendly and professional, but he also had the experience and attention to detail that helped us make the best decisions for our home. He crawled into tight spaces, spent hours in our freezing cold attic, and thoroughly cleaned up a LOT of work that had been previously (and very poorly) done. He and his apprentice/assistant went above and beyond to ensure that the everything was triple checked, properly labeled, and impeccably cleaned up at the end of each day. Phil's attention to detail (even in something as mundane as picking out new outlet covers for us) never wavered. He was thoughtful in all of his advice and work, and we would readily recommend him and Autumn Electric to others.

+ 0 moreElectrician arrived on time and assessed the problem of tripped circuit breaker. Seams old cables and boxes were being contaminated by rain water. Also light in the Gazebo did not work. Removed lamp and gave it to me to refurbish. My choice. Proceeded to upgrade all the cables, receptacles, light switch and box covers. Job was difficult because the electric circuits are under my deck. Not much head room. Finished job looks great and should last a long time. Now it is up to me to refurbish the lamp and hang it back up.

+ -1 moreMy renters informed me that the dryer (new) was not working. After the warranty company came out and said it wasn't the dryer, it was the plug, I contacted Autumn via Angie's List. They responded the next day and quoted me about $160.00. I called them that day to schedule. Originally they told me they could not come out for almost a week. I told them I wanted to get this fixed for my renters sooner than that and I would look for another company. The gentleman that answered the phone then offered an appointment 2 days later. He said that someone else wanted that time, but they hadn't confirmed yet and if I could confirm, I could get the spot. I confirmed. I understand from my renters that they were timely and got it fixed. I got the invoice quickly. Very satisfied.

+ 1 moreGood experience - scheduler on the phone was pleasant and helpful, and Chris, the technician, was punctual, competent, efficient, and recommended a cheaper way to do the bathroom exhaust fans - I had purchased 3 exhaust fans ahead of time, but he said it would be cheaper for him to replace the guts of the existing fans rather than install completely new ones, because even though the fan itself would would cost more, the savings in terms of his billed time would be significant. Also, there was a slight problem with one of the fans (noisy and slow running, like something was caught in it). He happily came back out and found the problem and fixed it in a couple minutes. The price was fine - not the lowest, but also not the highest, but given the amount of work and the quality of that work, it was completely worth it. Strong recommendation.

Description of Work: They installed three new bathroom vent fans and they added timer switches to each. They also installed a new GFI outlet in my bathroom. One of the fans required an additional switch to be added. They also moved an electric light in my bathroom up a couple of inches. They put new ducts from the fans to the exterior of the house. One of my fans wasn't properly vented so they added a vent through the roof.

+ -1 moreI discovered the problem after business hours, and so contacted Autumn first thing the next morning. Although they were fully booked for the day, they promised to try to send someone out if they could. They got back to me that morning with an electrician who could come out. He arrived within the scheduled time frame, and was very courteous and professional. He was methodical in diagnosing the problem (touching wires in one of the outlets that was causing the circuit breaker to short) and quick to fix it. He was even very conscientious of our little kids and pets in the house! The labor price seemed reasonable. I didn't have any other estimates, but another company wanted to charge "emergency rates" for coming out on the same day, so Autumn was much more affordable. I would definitely have them back again.

I received a call back asking if they could come right out since they had a cancellation. Within 4 hours of my original call I had my pendant lights installed and a weather box put on an outside outlet. Chris the electrician was professional, worked efficiently, and made sure I was satisfied with his work. He gave me an estimate and was spot on. I have some other projects and will be asking for Chris in the future.

He looked over the fan and the remote and explained how everything would be hooked up before starting, He answered any questions that I had. He was very neat and cleaned up when he was done. He was there for about 3 hours. Pat had to improvise a little because the remote I bought for it (and which the guy at Lowe's told me would work for all fans) didn't fit properly with this one. The fan works great. I would definitely use this company again.

+ -1 moreIt went very well. I thought my breaker box needed replacing so Autumn Electric said they'd send a master electrician to evaluate the situation and make a proposal at no charge. They couldn't come the same afternoon, but made an appointment for first thing the next morning, 8:30-9:30 a.m. At 8:00 a.m. they called to ask if it would be OK if he came at 11:00 since he was needed at another site. I said that was fine. The owner of the company, Dave Barsotti, came promptly at 11:00 and it did not take long for him to remove the breaker box cover and test the connections and determine that the problem was actually with Dominion Power. The power company later fixed the underground cable where a connection had exploded. Autumn Electric properly diagnosed the problem and at no charge. A different company had come out previously, took an hour to look at the breaker box etc. and told me they'd get back to me with a proposal to replace it. They were obviously very wrong. So I'm grateful to Autumn Electric for their prompt and professional service. I will contact them for a quote for any future electrical work
Description of Work: The owner of the company, a master electrician, came to evaluate my failing power. I thought I needed a breaker box replaced, but he quickly ascertained that I wasn't getting 240 volts into the house and told me to call Dominion, who resolved the issue. It was an underground service fault.

He had knowledge of our old fixtures that if he didn't it could have been a huge mess. He made some adjustments to the porch ceiling to allow for a better fit for the porch light. I already had the new fixtures, so it took Rick about 3 hours to install everything. I am very happy with Autumn Electrical and would use them again. Rick did a great job!

+ 0 moreAutumn Electric provided an exceptional customer experience right from the very start, when I called and the friendly and courteous scheduler listened attentively to my short list of needs, explained the company's rate structure, and scheduled an appointment for a window between 9:00 and 11:00 AM a scant 2 days hence. At 9:00 AM on the appointed day, the electrician (Rick) arrived and began immediately to address each of the small but not entirely uncomplicated requirements I'd identified. Rick was highly efficient: an expert diagnostician who methodically resolved every challenge, he also provided me useful tips to help me avoid recurring problems. When Rick left, exactly 1 hour later, the only way one would have known he'd been in my home was that the fixes had been made: he was scrupulous about cleaning up following each job, provided and explained my bill, thanked me for my business, and was gone as quickly as he had arrived. I would (I will) not hesitate to call this company for assistance again, and it's a pleasure to commend them in this review.
Description of Work: Addressed all four minor but highly-annoying electrical challenges (i.e., bathroom lights overheating and "popping" when burning out, an inoperable porch light, kitchen track lighting anomalies, and the need for GFI adjustments in two rooms) within one hour.

+ 0 moreDave Matthews, owner, gave me a detailed estimate and thoroughly explained what would be required to add canister lighting in my kitchen and remove an existing ceiling light. Their estimate was very reasonable, and I had had positive recommendations from friends who had used Autumn, so I contracted with them. They arrived on time, covered all the surfaces before cutting into the ceiling, worked quietly and quickly and finished installing all 8 canisters that day. They cleaned up after and left me with wonderful new lighting. They were also careful to cut the "fishing" holes in the ceiling neatly and replaced the pieces of dry wall that had been cut out. They do not repair/patch the holes.

+ -1 moreAutumn Electric wasn't the lowest estimate that I received, but we decided to go with them because they were local, and they said that the charge was by the hour, so if there was additional time, they could address other electrical issues as well. Luckily, they were able to schedule the fix the same day that I called to schedule. In fact, they had just had a cancellation, and the technician arrived within the same hour of my call. The technician showed up on time, had a great attitude, was professional and knowledgeable, and was enjoyable to be around. He showed us where the problem was and told us how to avoid it in the future. Unfortunately, when we took the new fixture out of the box, the glass cover was broken, however, the tech advised us on the best way to handle the return back at the store. He was done in under an hour, and spent his remaining time with us checking out some other minor electrical issues in the kitchen. He cleaned up all the debris including the old fixture. I would definitely use Autumn Electric again.

+ 0 moreI have nothing but praise for this contractor. I required estimates from several contractors before committing to the work. He came out on schedule and discussed my needs. He not only understood completely what outcome I was expecting as a result of adding lighting to my garage but suggested several alternatives. I had done much research before to determine what lights would be appropriate and he was most knowledgeable about the alternatives. I had estimates from other contractors for the same work. Dave's estimate was higher but his experience and manner made it easy for me to decide to get him to do the job. On the day of installation, he arrived on time. He installed 4 fluorescent fixtures with electronic ballasts on my garage ceiling and a 5th one over my bench area, also in the garage. He exchanged an existing 2-gang outlet for a 4-gang and on/off switch for the 5th light. The 4 lights were controlled by a motion sensing switch. This switch was not the correct one when installed and he returned to replace it with one that worked better. I would certainly use him again.

+ 0 moreI would summarize my experience with Autumn Electric as exceptional; certainly much more positive than I was expecting. Clearly they appreciated my having cleared away work areas where possible, and they double-checked with me to make sure the placement of lights and outlets was correct. The lead electrician (Will or Bill - don't remember exactly at this time), was very experienced and directed work for the other electrician as needed. He took it upon himself to check my entire electrical panel, which is how he discovered the rusted breakers. The work in the garage, even though not a living space, was performed very neatly with a minimum number of cutouts to assist in threading the wires during installation. The cut-outs were replaced neatly with screws to keep them in place, dimpling the drywall enough to be ready for patching by me (the homeowner). The wood strips in the basement were both glued and nailed or screwed into the concrete to prevent them from moving or falling with the receptacle set at the correct height and depth to allow for future drywall finishing. All wiring was neatly accomplished and attached with a minimum number of bore-holes through the rafters. The work in the kitchen and den was incredible. Will/Bill's attention to detail and effort in carefully cutting out the holes for the recessed lights so as to not break the drywall was very much appreciated and in one case where the ceiling had been patched before and began to crumble, he was able to re-patch it so well, it was not visible to the naked eye. He succeeded in using only one extraneous square cutout in the kitchen to feed wiring - all the other cut-outs were cut in the garage-side wall facing the kitchen and den. While it took a bit longer to complete the task, the end result was much less damaging to the interior, and that attention to detail was extremely appreciated. He was able to use one of the ceiling circular cutouts for one of the recessed lights to patch the hole left by the fluorescent light fixture. I was able to use a minimum of patch compound to seal the edges and match the rest of the textured ceiling and prime it (yet to be painted). It is undetectable. I highly recommend Autumn Electric to anyone in the area.
Description of Work: Mr. Dave Barsotti performed the initial walk-through for the estimate of the work I wanted done. I explained to him that while I wanted all the work done, I might not be able to afford all of it immediately, so I he provided the estimate in individually priced tasks that allowed me to select which I could I afford to do now and which had to wait. He was patience as we went over the proposed work, indicating where improvements over my requests could be made and why, but never, ever pushy or attempting to over-sell anything. In the end, I could afford only about half of the work estimated this time, with hopes to call August Electric back next year to complete the remainder. The work was accomplished over 1 day + 3 afternoons, as my particular living situation could not allow morning work except for the work done in the basement. I am grateful to August Electric for being so flexible and was a portion of the reason I chose to to with them. Work accomplished: 1) Took down 2 old hanging fluorescent lamps in garage along with 9 extension cords used to light them, connect the garage door opener and another outlet strip. Installed 2 flush-mounted industrial grade fluorescent fixtures with smaller, more energy-efficient ballasts and tubes, wired directly to light switch. Removed old ceiling mounted outlet, and add a new one closer to the opener for its sole use. Added three double-receptacle outlets at locations I designated. 2) Unfinished Basement: Took down one hanging fluorescent fixture and four hanging incandescent bulb fixtures working off one light switch. Added 11 recessed "can" lights at designated points, managed in three sections by three switches, with one section controlled both at the top and bottom of the steps. Added wood strips to concrete wall and installed 3 quad-receptacles and 1 double-receptacle outlets at designated points. Replaced burnt out breaker to outside HVAC unit. Replaced several other breakers which had rusted due to water leaks from the kitchen faucet above. 3) Kitchen: Removed globe light from above sink area and fluorescent fixture from center of kitchen ceiling. Installed 6 recessed lights in appropriate areas for main portion of kitchen floor, 1 in front of pantry, and 1 above the sink, with the later independently controlled by a separate light switch (already there). 4) Den: No lights to remove. Added 4 recessed lights appropriately distributed for the room and in line with the those of the kitchen as the two rooms are seamless connected. Added 2 smaller recessed swiveling recessed lights to highlight fireplace mantle and/or artwork on nearby walls.
