AFFORDABLE LAWN SPRINKLERS & LIGHTING

They arrived at 7 am as scheduled and they reviewed the plans and any particular watering needs we had. They worked quickly. They did dig up a flower bed because that was where they had to tie into the water,main. They did replant the flowers they dug up to reach the water line. The yard is chewed up where they dug the main lines but that was to be expected since the temperatures had been over 100 with no rain for weeks and the ground was like concrete. They did replace grass plugs they had dug up but they did not survive- again not unexpected for a late July install. They showed us how to use the system that day but also arranged for a follow up walk-through to review the sprinkler head placement, spray direction, etc. We did that a week later to allow time to assess where the sprays needed adjusting. He adjusted them and in one area where there was not enough coverage, even added two more heads at no additional cost. They were very responsive and several thousand dollars cheaper than other estimates we had.We are very pleased.

I contacted Affordable Lawn Sprinkler to have them come check out why the Rainbird controller box that they installed had stopped working. They scheduled me right away and sent Esteban out to perform the work. He was prompt, extremely courteous, knowledgeable and helpful (A+ all around). He had to replace the control box. Then after checking all our watering zones, he showed me (again) how to program the controller and sat patiently with me as we went through this. He then asked me when we had had fence work done. I asked why? He told me that where the new section of fencing was, that the fence people had cut one of the underground irrigation lines. Since we water the lawn before either of us are up in the morning, we would not have known this until all the surrounding grass had died. I told him that they had just put in the new section of fence approx 2 weeks earlier and asked him how much the repair would be. He said that he would simply take care of it for me while there and it would be NO CHARGE. The underground lines are not covered by warranty if someone damages them. How great is that?! And it took him a good 30 minutes of his time to dig out the damaged line and install a new one and then test the system again. Since the original installation in June of 2009, through the repairs, spring turn on and fall shut off, Affordable has been a terrific company with whom to deal. They stand 100% behind their product and service and I reccomend them anyone looking to get underground sprinkler system. They are just the best!

Since submitting a previous complaint about the lack of responsiveness, this company has gone above and beyond to remediate all outstanding issues. How a company deals with customer satisfaction issues says a lot about the company. They admitted fault and have applogized sincerely both verbally and in the steps they took to address my concerns. I would recommend this company and intend to use them in the future. I will reserve my overall rating of an "A" pending the follow-on work that we do next year :) -------------------------- They tore up the lawn pretty bad. I was expecting them to run the lines along the mulched bed as they said they would move the mulch out of the way and then rake it back in place. Instead, they ran all of the lines in the grass. where the lines were laid looks like a trencher when through it. Also, one of the sprinkler heads doesn't go back down on it's own, probably is a defect that needs to be replaced - not a big deal. I gave them a B for punctuality because they at least started the job when they said they would but they never scheduled the follow up visit to go over the system as promised. They never stopped back by as promised to explain how the system works. I have left them two very polite messages to give me a call back but they have not responded yet and it's been over two weeks. The the salesman (Ryan) was very polite and proffessional during the sales cycle but has dropped off the face of the planet and has not returned my calls yet. What's even stranger is that we had planned on adding more zones after the pool went in so there's more business in store for them. I'm not sure if they expect to get paid for the other 50% that I owe them... i suppose someone is going to have call me back eventually. Very disappointing. Would not recommend.

On my initial call, I was told by the person answering the phone that there was a 3-week backlog as this was a busy point of the season. I asked if I could speak with someone who performed the work who might be able to provide me some trouble-shooting suggestions. The person (Claire) replied she was the service manager and she could answer some questions. After I explained my situation, she diagnosed it as something I might be able to do (flush the stuck valve) and provided a link off their website for video demonstration on how to do it ( http://www.affordablelawnsprinklers.com/resources.cfm). That is awesome customer service no matter how you look at it.

From start to finish an absolutely wonderful experience. Very timely first meetings, work started within 3 weeks of meeting which was perfect timing, they worked with me as I was having all new sod laid at the same time. Back out for our final walk through within two weeks of installation, thorough and helpful. They made sure all the beds were also getting the water needed as well as the all the grass areas. I will use them again for lighting. Helpful, responsive and polite throughout. You won't go wrong if you choose to work with this company.

Good- only one snag after I reached the wrong person on the phone who wrote down our address incorrectly. Fortunately the mistake was caught and the technician arrived at the right time and place.

Canceled service. I signed up for the sprinkler tune-up on 7 Mar 11. Six weeks later they still have not come to service sprinkler system. I called them today and they told me they would be here on thursday, but would not give a time. I told them I do not want to take a whole day off from work waiting for a sprinkler tune-up, could they narrow the time down? I was told no, did I want to reschedule? I said yes but was told the earliest would be 11 May. Again no way to narrow the time down to morning or afternoon. Taking all day off waiting for a 60 dollar tune-up doesn't work for me.

We contacted Affordable in late 2010. We got a proposal and agreed to follow up in March 2011. Affordable called in March as they promised and that was a good sign. They were one of three bids we got. They were not the lowest cost but pretty close. We ran into a snag in the followup One of the owners stepped in and made everything fine. We couldn't be more pleased with the service. I can't comment on quality of the system because this is the first day we've been able to use it. But I can say these peop[le care about their company and their reputation. I highly recommend them.

They worked off of an old 2008 proposal and I was very surprised that the prices did not increase that much. The owner Ryan personally met with us and explained everything, provided a diagram of the job and his installation followed up via email promptly to schedule everything. They arrived on time, they worked efficiently, they restored my lawn where they had to dig, they did everything they promised. I was impressed with their punctuality both for the plumber that came a few days before and the installation team. The only thing left is training on the system, but it is pre-programmed and operating now. Very pleased with the results and looking forward to a green lawn this summer. They installed a system down the street several years ago and I kept them in mind as I watched the yard down the street look great all summer long.

I responded to an Angie's list special that was emailed to me - in-ground sprinkler system inspection and service for $60. Per instructions I called the company to set up a time for the service and discovered that they do not service Montgomery County, only Northern Virginia. They apologized for the special which indicated that they serviced the entire metro area and gave me information on how to get a refund from Angie's list.

They gave us a good price on the system and have been very helpful. The guy that runs it is very nice and helpful when he comes out. I would completely recommend to use them.

We chose this company base on Anglist's good reviews, but have experienced a series of very poor communication, promises not kept, no call back from their scheduling people. In MHO, it doesn't matter if they WERE the best in the business if they don't get to perform the work order. Bottom line, they need to make sure their front line people keep their appointments of work orders straight in order to stay in business. First call in the first week of November, I got the owner, he was pleasant, quoted us a good price to do our winterizing sprinkler maintenance. Because we want to have a few heads' adjustments, he promised to send a senior tech out so the guy can also estimate the add'l cost for the adjustments. He then passed me to the scheduler to schedule a time. The scheduler couldn't schedule for that week, so she said she will call me back to let me know later in the day if she can find opening. No call by 5:30pm, so I called back and left a message for them to call me back about a scheduled date. No call back, so I called back after 2 days, they don't work on weekend and were mostly booked thru Nov, the only date they can do Lorton area we can't be home, so we settle for appoinment far in advance Friday Dec 3rd. I called back a few days later to reschedule from Fri 12/3 to Wed 12/15, mind you, it's still many weeks in advance. I was absolutely cleared about the date, being that's the date we can be sure to be home. I asked for estimate arrival time window, the scheduler told me she can't tell until 1 or 2 days before and that someone will call me back on the Monday/Tuesday before to tell me. No call Monday 12/13, so I called Tuesday 12/14 to find out the time. The scheduler told me that they have us scheduled for Thursday 12/15 because that day they have other appointments in our area of Lorton and insisted on my date is wrong. Either they moved our appointment date to fit their work schedule without notifying us, or their scheduling book is absolutely screwed up. Considering the first call was in Nov, it's been a long stretch out frustrating experience just to schedule. The owner was apologic and explained that they had to layoff people in recent time. A day after we posted the report on Angies, the owner called back and sincerely tried to right the wrongs. This to us mean he cares about customers satisfactions; in turn strive for repeat customers, also means I can count on a company's staying in business and their long term support and not worry about a fly-by-night company. At first they couldn't schedule a date, the owner talked to my husband to locate and dig up the box in the ground to shut off the water for the winter. They ended up scheduled for the work the next day even though we couldn't be home to let them in the control box, but they couldn't do the work anyway because of bad weather. They left a voice message for us to call back to reschedule, but before we did, they came back the next day. From what my husband described, the water valve to the sprinkler broke, water broke out everywhere on the lawn and into street, the guy struggled to shut it off . Lucky for him my husband was home that day and lent him the third hand he needed. With the bad weather, they temporary capped off the water, did the winterization water blow out, and would need to come back in the Spring to rebuild the valve, so we'd definitely need water valve recconnected in the Spring to get our sprinkler system working again. We had hope that my husband can turn on the system himself and we will only need to pay to get the sprinklers head readjusted, but guess we'll need to more work done. The owner mentioned Angies's coupon but gave us a discount for the scheduling problem, bringing the cost of winterization to $60, which is very good, they sure spent a good amount of time on the broken valve. The office manager estimated cost for the Spring work will be about $300-$350 for 2 hours of labor. My math tells me > $150 per hour for plumbing work is a bit too steep. Overall, the company deserves a second chance, and got out of the F grade I gave them earlier. For now, I can't give them an A base on the overal experience, but a B seems a fair assessment. Will see how things turn out in the Spring.

They did an excellent job. I felt it was a fair price and they kept in touch throughout the whole process. They were backed up and were always responsive whenever I needed questions answered. The sprinkler system works particularly well and they showed us how to use the sprinkler system through the electrical box to set up automatic scheduling. They were careful with their installation and the damage to the lawn was minimal at first and it healed very fast.

The technicial arrives, I show them where the water is connect to the house and they proceed to check the 8 zone system. I was going to use the sprinkler system three times a week and the technician suggested that two would be frequently enough. I decided to go with two and my lawn was fine. This fall a new technician arrived and after turning the water off, I did not see him again. I had pre-paid so it was not a problem. f

From the beginning Reed and his team have been first class. Our project was a part of a larger renovation/addition to a house. "Affordable" has been the lone stand out in an otherwise miserable process. Reed listened to what I told him we needed and then offered advice as to how to achieve the goals. His thoughtful, straightforward advice helped me save thousands in what would have been wasted spending. Beyond Reed, their team was very efficient and well trained. From start to finish it was a great experience. They delivered for me.

Let me just say upfront: I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND THESE GUYS. Put them on your short list and talk to them. These guys are for real and know what they are doing! Went very well. They were very knowledgable and took the time to help me understand all of the parts included and also what options were available. They matched the price given to a neighbor several years ago. They arrived on time with a highly skilled and professional crew that was supervised by an experienced manager. I was able to review and oversee the work with the supervisor and he was very willing to listen and provided good advice. They removed all of the rocks that got pulled out of the ground and even let my wife pick them over to use for landscaping. I have a tough travel schedule and they accomodated several reschedules by me without even blinking. A really good company that I look forward to working with for years to come.

I had an eleven zone lawn irrigation system and a house, trees and shrub lighting system installed. They came when they said they would and finished on time. Their price was comparable to other estimates I had received. The thing that sold me on the company was when they (Ryan) came over to give me an estimate he took the time to explain everything and diagrammed out the complete installation so I could see exactly what I was getting. The other companies wouldn't take the time to do that for me. This company was a pleasure to work with and I would hire them again.

I contacted Affordable Sprinkler for an estimate on a newly built home and lawn for a sprinkler system. Ryan was punctual for our estimate meeting and designed a flexible system and went over all the details. The price was not the cheapest or the most expensive but had the best coverage for the lawn that I could tell. On installation day they showed up right on time (actually 10 minutes early) and flagged out the head locations. They reviewed the locations with me and asked questions about water connections, rain sensors, control panel locations etc all before digging a single hole. Once determined they started work right away and worked all day with only 1 lunch break in 90 degree heat. Ryan came back out during the install the make sure everything was going well and discuss a chance to the system on the fly due to an unforeseen issue involving a neighbors sprinkler system. He adjusted our estimate right there in person. They promptly called 2 days later to schedule the system walk-through and review everything. I highly recommend this company.

We have never been satisfied with an existing outdoor lighting system installed in 2003 by another lighting contractor. We reviewed Angie's List for local lighting contractors and contacted several for estimates. Affordable Lawn Sprinklers and Lighting were selected based upon price, the quality of their lighting product, warranty and overall professionalism of company and Joe (their technician/representative). During his first visit, Joe quickly understood the changes we wanted to make and the lighting effects we wanted to achieve. He prepared an overall plan with recommended lighting fixtures and transformer equipment and provided a price. His price was close to the others we received but the products that Affordable proposed appeared to be superior. A contract was signed and a general timeframe for installation was agreed. The installation was completed exactly as Joe indicated. Because some additional landscaping was still in progress in one area of the yard, the final light was not installed for several weeks after the main installation. Subsequent to the installation, we also added one light to improve the illumination of a large tree. The final lighting system is exceptional. We couldn't be most satisfied with the outcome. Ours is not a "show home" but several of our neighbors have commented that the lighting system makes it look like one. We are very pleased with the product, the professionalism and the results of this new system. I would highly recommend Affordable for outdoor lighting services. You can bet if we every plan to expand the system, Affordable will do the work.

Two other contractors had submitted estimates but one was rather expensive and the other had dubious references. I joined Angie's List, found Affordable as a highly rated service provider, and made an appointment for an estimate. Mr. Muniz arrived on time, made a very competitive estimate and was very clear about what they would do. I accepted the proposal on the spot and made a tentative appointment for installation. This appointment was postponed by the company with the explanation that unusually hot weather made it difficult for the installers to work as fast as usual. I considered the explanation reasonable. The second appointment was kept. The installation crew worked rapidly in very hot conditions and finished the installation by mid-afternoon. The foreman did not discuss details of the installation with me as they went along. Had he done so a few minor issues might have been avoided. Overall, the crew did a good job and cleaned up well leaving the lawn and landscaping little disturbed. The first follow up visit by a technician to explain the system and resolve any remaining issues came about two weeks later. The technician was unable to resolve a couple of issues (specifically, an incorrectly located rain sensor and an inadequate drip irrigator for the large container. A second visit by a different technician after another two weeks resolved the remaining issues. Overall, I considered it a very good experience and would definitely recommend this company.

I ended up going with a different company, but the estimate and quality of service appeared great! Both companies I met with had great ratings on Angies List. These guys just came after the first and I was already sold. However, I would recomend these gents to anyone and if I ever have an issue with the former company I will call Affordable in a heartbeat.

Was very pleased with the job! They were very professional and did an excellent job! You can not even tell they had diig up parts of our yard. I would hightly recommend this company.

UPDATE FROM MEMBER 7/18/10: At technician came from Affordable Lawn Sprinklers and was on time. He felt that my system presented a hazard of basement flooding and that if two valves failed, of backing up through my air conditioning drain line. Another company said that the PVC pipes in the basement did present a risk, but that the pipes looked to be in good condition. He said a company today would not install a system like it. He added that two (not one) valves would have to fail for water to flush back into my A/C from a shared drain line. I do not have the expertise to assess my system nor the risk it poses as is. Therefore, it was not likely fair for me to give Affordable "F" grades. Ultimately, they could have been right about the risk.

I was impress we the company and will use their services in the future.
