Prior to purchasing our home during the inspection, we noticed that turning the dryer on in the home dimmed all of the lights in the house and created a transient loss of power. We requested that the home owner address the issue prior to closing. They used the home warranty and Relay Electric was sent out, who in turn provided a report saying there was nothing wrong with the house electrical systems. Fast forward two months and we moved in (Jan 2013). While at home we experience periodic losses in power, culminating in a total loss of electricity to the home. We discovered that the meter base was shorted out due to water getting in over the years and causing corrosion. Dominion Power came out and they were able to replace their portion and restore power. After a long talk about the situation with them they stated that the meter base needed to be replaced. The current one was no longer authorized and it was causing the problems. Using the same warranty company, they once again sent out Relay Electric to assess what needed to be done. The guy who came out briefly looked at the meter, never looked at anything else and was in a hurry to leave. He also stated at one point that he "got paid by the hour so it wasn't a big deal for him to come out to Norfolk." He also hit the small dogwood tree in our yard near the curb and broke off a major limb as he drove away, leaving it hanging in the street. I called later and the lady who answers the phone was unapologetic. The story goes on but anybody reading gets the idea. I am writing this as a warning to others that this company is not professional, knowledgeable or thorough.
