Services we offer
We desighn, build and remodle old or new houses, restoration is our specialty, additions, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, decks, pole barns, garages, sunrooms & waterproofing.
PJ was the only contractor we contacted that was willing to come to our home and take a look before providing an estimate. Everyone else used photos but also made the incorrect assumption about how our front porch was originally constructed and what the issue behind the crumbling was. The process itself was stretched out over two weeks roughly, but that was mainly because of the weather. PJ made a point to keep us constantly updated about when things would stop or resume. We also greatly appreciate that they lengthened the original rails to match the slightly larger stoop. We'll probably reach out once we're ready to do work on our basement!
Description of Work: Our front and back stoop were starting to crumble (for lack of a better word). The front stoop was also jutting away from the house as well so that needed to be corrected. As he and I talked about the initial work estimates I asked if he could replace the back door with something more weatherproof but still have the same large window.

Excellent job. We received a detailed contract and work was done exactly to the specs of this contract. PJ and his crew came when they said they would and were pleasant and easy to work with. The job site (our dining room) was broom cleaned each evening and care was taken to minimize mess in the house. The result is beautiful and so appropriate to the rest of the house.
It may sound like a simple job, but it wasn't. I wanted to replace the floor without removing the columns and the attached railings that support the roof above. P J methodically moved from column to column, raising each and replacing the floor beneath as they progressed the length of the porch. All of the old flooring was removed, including all of the nails and packaging materials. And....it was done on time, the way he always works! There's a reason I keep going back to P J. He knows his business. He's a delight to work with. And, above all, his work is the best. Go elsewhere at your own peril.
Description of Work: P J removed the old floor of my porch (20x30) and replaced it with new Azek T&G flooring. This is an exposed, outside porch. The floor has been replaced several times in 35 years, always with a wood product. I was in a hurry, weather was closing in and I needed someone who I trusted to do the work quickly and completely. My house is a 1793 Shenandoah Valley of Virginia stone house that has been lovingly restored. P J has done several jobs for me over the years. He is competent, through and a delight to work with. His crew is talented, well trained and goes about their work in a thoughtful manner.

PJ is a nice guy and genuinely wanted us to be happy with his work. That said, it would have been helpful if he had actually drawn up plans and gone over them with us, working out details, before beginning the job. We also would recommend that demolition not begin until all necessary materials to complete the job have been purchased and all important materials are actually in his possession. Our estimated five week job ended up taking more than two and a half months - all that time without a usable bathroom! In fairness, much of the delay was not PJ's fault - but by the time we got to the last stages of the job, he was feeling rushed to complete it and we were just ready to have it done. As a result, we compromised on several issues and the end result was a bathroom that looked good, but was not what we had really wanted. I would also recommend that PJ either better train or monitor the young men he had doing the demolition work. Although they were friendly and polite, they managed to poke a hole in the wallboard of the adjacent room while tearing down the bathroom walls. They also were careless in dumping debris out the window - some of it landing on one of our shrubs, essentially destroying it. PJ repaired the damaged wall and we didn't even tell him about the shrub, but it left us feeling like we had let some people into our home who were careless with our home. On the other hand, Ernest, the man PJ had do the tile work for us, did a beautiful job and was consistently responsive, polite and professional.

I am without words on how to respond to this . First of all thank you for the B Grade ! I want everyone out to realize If you wait till the materials are secured before you start demolishing the project you will end up with a much bigger problem on your hands . This is the only way you can confirm measurements in the field !! Framing is involved , Plumbing and electrical , in this case we had to install heated floors . Mrs Derickson at no time during the project gave us no indication of being un satisfied with the progress or quality in job . Let me please touch on things that mrs Derickson spoke of .. drywall Damage , THIS HAPPENS IN CONSTRUCTION! The hole was about the size of a golf ball and was made when we were ripping out studs from the other side of wall . It was repaired immediately. The BUSH ? Mrs Derickson had never mentioned this until the review? If we would have been told about here concern for the bush I would have addressed it ! The Delay in project I take full responsibility for however please let me explain why this accrued. As a business owner I provide a service that involves a countless number of other people to do there job and follow through in order for the project to come in on time . I gave Mrs Derickson a few options in venders to choose from selecting a counter top vanity sink and mirror ensemble. Unfortunately the one she picked was on back order . I was not told this until it was time for delivery. I will never use this vender again because of this . I will say that the bathroom came out amazing and I'm really not sure why mrs Derickson would say that she didn't get what she wanted ? She always expressed to me she was very pleased. Please see photo in gallery of the grey custom shower we did I think it speaks for it self . Finally I want to say this to anyone who is trying to select a contractor to do there work . Please keep an open mind when reviewing reviews. We are constantly scrutinized by the public and are subject to anyone's opinion . I personally strive to make everyone I work for completely satisfied and go to every effort to please . We all know that you cannot please everyone. Please focus on our good reviews and understand that we will always have your best interest in mind . Lastly I want to say again thank you for the B Grade However were I'm from if your a failure for anything less than an A we would all be a failure !!

It looks even better than I imagined because the contractor suggested the shutters . . . and they are lovely.
Description of Work: A very ugly cover on our outdoor basement entry was removed and replaced by extending the house roofline. An equally ugly outdoor shower enclosure was replaced by using antique shutters as the walls . . . it looks great . . . sorry it's on the back of the house!
A can do attitude, despite the hardships during the job. PJ is a great person to work with. I would hire him again.
Description of Work: Build a garage in a wilderness area, with a myriad of hardships just reaching the jobsite. PJ's professional and work ethics provided a superb conclusion, with others amazed at the beautiful garage.

It went great. He was slowed down by all the rain in April and May, but he kept coming back every sunny day to get as much done as possible. He was very conscientious and did an outstanding job.
Description of Work: I have a patio consisting of a cement slab and then an edge area, about 7 feet wide, made up of pavers. The paver part of the patio had settled badly. The surface of the paver area was uneven, sloping down hill, and made up of pavers at different heights. He removed all the pavers, gravel, and sand below the pavers.. He then installed French drains in the soil, backfilled the gravel, and poured a huge slab below the paver depth. This new slab was attached to the existing concrete patio with steel rods. He then put all the pavers back on top of the poured slab and filled in the cracks with sand. He then power washed the existing cement patio, adjacent to the paver section, filled in a low spot in the concrete slab, and epoxied the cement part of the patio.

THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST NIGHTMARE OF OUR LIVES!!!! We had multiple communication issues with this contractor. Mr. Stanley installed the moldy kitchen floorboards that were removed by ServiceMaster as a false beam to hide the transition between the old and new ceilings and will not remove it after multiple requests. The main bathroom cannot be fully used because the tile floors were not sealed and the window was left un-replaced with the trim off, exposing the room to outside elements. The windows in the kitchen and dining room also are in need of trim and we are unable to hang curtains to block off the outside world from looking in. The lazy susan in the corner cabinet has recently fallen apart as well. Mr. Stanley pulled his men at the first mention of any impairments in their work and walked off the job in November. He has since demanded final payment and filed a mechanics lien on our home!! At the advice of our attorneys, we brought in other contractors to give us estimate on how much it would cost to complete the work. It was then that we found that the work was not done to code. We now have to spend additional monies to bring the work up to code. We are living in the back room of our home and cannot move our furniture back into the house until all construction has been completed - which should have been not later than the end of November!!

First of all let me say this. The Night mare was all ours we still have not been paid! First of all let me comment . The owners wanted to Act as there own general contractor and refused to pull a building permit because of the horrible existing condition of there home . To some it up there house is falling down around there beautiful Kitchen That we gave them .The pictures that this client show of unfinished portions of work are completely explainable.#1 The photo of the sink that she shows with no faucet ? This was because Mrs [Member Name Removed] Wanted to provide all appliances. So this meant that the used dishwasher she was given for me to install was incomplete and had faulty wiring . I told Mrs [Member Name Removed] I Could not Hook Up The sink plumbing supply because it needed to be tied into the dishwasher also .Not mentioned, in a list of her complaints was a microwave that they were given also and it did not have and hardware mounting brackets and faulty threads to hang it . We did manage to work through this and installed it so that it would function along with venting system we installed . #2 The trim above the kitchen sink, This was left off due to the fact we could not install it until countertops were installed and that the backsplash needed to go in first. Whats this have to do with any thing you ask ? I cannot tell you the living h*** we went through over the counter tops !! Not only did they breach contract by purchasing counter tops through home depot without my approval, They selected a counter top that was discontinued! After i insisted she cancel the order we then met with my counter top supplier and proceeded to pick out a new counter top selection. During this process she decided that she wanted a laminate and she also wanted an applied OG Mould That My supplier and I tried to steer her away from. Since laminate counter tops are not a solid surface , any edging that is applied sometimes becomes problematic. We recommended an Og or a standard eased edge that would be integral . Mrs [Member Name Removed] And i QUOTE I Want what i want ! I Understand this and i don't blame her for wanting what she wants but the problem from the beginning, she never would take the advice of her contractor.#3The bathroom Window, This window in the contract Was specified as a vinyl double hung by simonton. days prior to putting it in she insisted on a jeld wen. THIS WAS NOT IN THE CONTRACT? I told mrs [Member Name Removed] i would price the jeld wen and let her know the difference. This was also a 3 week lead item so it would take longer to install.#4 Tile Sealer in bathroom . First of all let me say the bathroom is fully functional and working great we did put a coat of sealer between the grout joints so i do not understand this claim? Please understand that in these pictures You will notice red paint on the walls and unfinished cabinets that were never painted ? This is because Mrs [Member Name Removed] wanted to do all this herself . There were also drywall issues that were existing throughout the house that they wanted to handle and paint existing walls on there own . This became a complete hold up of my schedule due to the fact that it did not get done in a timely manner it caused delays on other parts of project . #5 This one takes the cake ? The Beam that i installed using molded boards? This Claim is again a false and fraudulent claim and another attempt to have a reason not to pay us what they owe . After installing this beam using old boards from the existing floors i had direct approval from the husband and comment on how much he liked it . I can assure there was no mold on the wood when we installed it . Mrs [Member Name Removed] first filed an insurance claim because she had a hot water heater leak. The leak damaged some sub flooring underneath and went directly into the crawlspace of the home seeping into the ground underneath. In all my years of being in business I have seen a lot of fraudulent activity when it comes to insurance claims. This drew a red flag with me in the beginning. I Live in the same neighborhood as these folks and i have known them for many years . They insisted i do the work because they know my reputation as a contractor. When I started this job i had bad feelings about it but i pressed on . We went over several times what the client wanted her kitchen and bathroom to look like and once we had started work we were told the the amount the insurance company was paying would not cover the cost of the project . Then they started telling me several ways they were going to try and come up with the $. I was given an initial payment up front and we had a signed contract so i felt we were going to be paid at least. . Things went down hill from there . Mrs [Member Name Removed] was completely satisfied with the work preformed and the level of workmanship until they realized they were having money problems . At This point thing became ugly I was told that i would have to give them things they were not going to pay for not to mention i still had no answers on the order items or faulty appliances ? I had other jobs to start and this job was going no where fast !! After realizing mrs [Member Name Removed] had know intention in paying me I hired an attorney to review the case . It was under his opinion that i did not step foot back on the property due to the irrational behavior of the client. My attorney had drafted a letter and we mailed a final invoice to mrs [Member Name Removed] with credits showing the claims of certain work that she states we did not preform . After several weeks it was clear that she was trying to get out of paying us anything. So It was then we filed a mech. lien . We have tried to resolve this matter professionally however i believe in my heart Mrs [Member Name Removed] Hired us to give her a beautiful kitchen she could not pay for . BTW after doing a title search during the lien process we had discovered that i am not the only one she has done this to. apparently there are other judgments on file ? TO THOSE READING THIS !! I take my work and my business seriously . I strive every day to give people respect and the courtesy they deserve . When i walk into someone's home and do a job i treat that home as if it were my own. Please keep an open mind when you see a bad review . There are some evil people in this world . I will shake this off and continue to provide great service to my clients . I will also post the judge's ruling after the court proceeding for those who are interested.!

It went very well. The workers are competent, courteous, and conscientious. They did an excellent job in all of the three rooms that were done. The work was done in a timely period with a minimum of household upset. The workers went out of their way to clean up every night and at the end of the job. The entire experience was excellent in all ways.

Overall I rate this as an F due to the fact we ended up in court. As such I would never use this contractor again. To be fair for the work he did complete; for the most part, was affordable and done to my satisfaction. Carpet work was good Had 3 Sliders replaced work was great. HOWEVER, he left one of the old sliders in my basement. (i.e. so he did not complete job in my opinion).
Description of Work: Carpet , vinyl flooring, and sliders. Was scheduled to have plumbing work done but he would not do it even though it was in the contract. We ended up in court in order for me to get my remaining money back... as he would not send me balance of funds remaining. Went to court judge found in my favor due to him not doing the work stated in the contract. Money was returned after court.

It seems that sometimes in life we run across individuals who expect something for nothing . Mr Madden and I did have a contract and yes we did end up in court . However, he ended up getting his way that day because my contract was worded wrong in the carpet section ."Typo Error" I had charged Mr.Madden for certain amount of sq' footage originally . However, after further review of previous invoices it had appeared we did not charge Mr Madden for 450.sq' of carpet. After sending him his final bill he disagreed on the total amount owed. We completed all carpet to his satisfaction . Mr Madden and i also had the understanding that prior to my commencement of the project he was to have the left over debris removed before carpet could be installed. It was a previous foreclosure he purchase and the past owner had all her things still there . WE arrived to install padding on the scheduled day and everything was still there . It was not in our contract to remove items from the house . It is unfair and typical of Mr Madden to claim delays on project or punctuality ? But fails to mention the Reasons behind This. There is not enough space provided in the comment response box to explain The nightmare we went through with this client . It seems that everyone assumes its the contractor that's out to screw the home owner but that's not always the case . Attn: Future inquiries, I am not going to give this individual the pleasure of ruining my Sunday afternoon at home responding to more of his slanderous claims .Please focus on our previous and past reviews to base your decision on using us as your contractor .

It went wonderfully. First of all, my wife and I decided to go with this company because they did not just blindly go with our design but also suggested changes that greatly improved the final product. PJ was very professional and he and his employees could always be trusted to do an excellent job. Additionally, they weren't afraid to come to us with questions along the way to make sure we got exactly the best kitchen that we could, and everybody was friendly. Now everything is done and it looks absolutely fantastic. We have beautiful new cabinets and a great granite countertop and everything. Also, they were able to do all that even though our house had unexpected plumbing, ducting, etc. behind the walls and other such surprises. There is no doubt that it would highly recommend their services and will surely go back to them if more such renovation is required in the future.
Description of Work: The provider completely renovated the kitchen, tearing it down to the subfloor and also did some work on the living room.

PJ was very enthusiastic about our project and provided us with much-needed design input. We were uncertain about knocking down the wall, but PJ agreed it was a great idea and we have all been amazed by how wonderfully it opens up our downstairs. He also fell in love (figuratively speaking!) with an old oak beam, and convinced us to leave it exposed. When we were disappointed to find the brick walls of our 1850's home covered with 1920's plaster--which meant we couldn't expose the brick for our backsplash--PJ found a manufacturer of real antique brick facade for our backsplash, and it turned out magnificent. We splurged on a Viking range and hood, and after unreasonable and inexplicable delays on the delivery of the hood, PJ went to bat and Got It Done. We are over-the-moon happy with the work PJ and his team did, and I can't recommend his services enough.
Description of Work: Kitchen makeover of our wildest dreams! Knocked a hole in a wall to create a new doorway; replaced cabinets, sink, refrigerator, dishwasher, range, range hood, and gorgeous new granite countertops, along with antique brick facade backsplash; installed new recessed can lighting and undercabinet lighting; and refinished old pine flooring.

I was happy with Mr. PJ Stanley (Renovation Concepts owner) from the first time we met to discuss the tear down and rebuild of our master bath. We wanted an architectural feature added to the new construction, yet I did not mention it to him, and on his initial inspection/estimate, he volunteered the exact detail we were thinking of, which to me, meant he was capable and thoughtful. we agreed on a price and work commenced as soon as he obtained the proper permits from the county. On work commencement day, he showed up with four guys, laid down plastic wrap on the carpet, and they tore the old bath apart. Part of the project was the tear down of an existing wall and the construction of a new one so that the new shower would be a 5' X 5' enclosure. This was done quickly and professionally. They were careful removing materials from the upstairs and on hand were electricians and plumbers to make sure all the work was done within code. Throughout the process, which took approximately one month, PJ stayed in contact with us giving updates, resolving problems and checking to make sure we approved of his independent moves. Of note: the tile man, Rick Brill, came downstairs one day as he was working on the river rock shower pan and asked if we had any special rocks we'd like to see in the shower...well, of course we did, so I pulled out a few rocks from our most recent glacier adventure in Alaska and gave them to him. Now, those small glacier rocks line the circular drain in the new shower!! That kind of inventiveness and attention to detail are indicative of how PJ and his crew at Renovation Concepts approached and executed the project. Now that it's complete, and in use, we are thoroughly pleased with the work, from concept to final product. I highly recommend Renovation Concepts and in fact, hope to utilize them for future projects.
Description of Work: New master bath; including new flooring, new vanity, new toilet and new, 5' X 5' tile shower.
PJ was very professional and a pleasure do deal with. He basically made our vacation home a brand new house that we love and show off almost every weekend to our friends and family. We will definitely recommend him and plan on using him for future projects at hour house.
Description of Work: We bought a house that was a bank owned property and had been unoccupied for over a year. PJ and his crew came in and knocked down some walls, fully remodeled our kitchen, re-painted everything and fixed some hard flooring for us. He also redid a porch roof and built new railings rap around porch/deck.

We called him. He met with us and discussed our wants and needs. He provided drawn plans for our approval. He got all permits from the county. He called on subcontractors as needed. The job was completed in a timely fashion and we love the results.
Description of Work: We added a carport. The job included designing the structure to match and compliment our current carport. Wooden and brick columns provided support for one end with the new roof pitched under our other carport. The builder matched roof, ceiling, columns, and light fixtures to the original carport. He offered suggestions before and during the process to make the structure even better than we had planned. One later idea we used and really appreciate was the motion lighting which "greets" us each time we arrive home!

This was the second time I have used Renovation Concepts. The first experience was a relatively small drywall job and the experience was so good, I called him back again for some insulation and more drywall. I'm married to an architect so I have both an elevated sense of what things should cost and an equally sensitive eye for craftsmanship and professionalism. His proposals were right on the money and the work superior. He takes great pride in his work and the finished product is spectacular. He keeps in touch and shows up when he says he will. I recommended him to a neighbor on the complete renovation of an old, much ignored home. I know that they were very pleased with his work and in turn, recommended him to yet another neighbor. I have since seen a number of his other projects and can fully understand why he is successful. I'd recommend him without qualification to anyone seeking superior craftsmanship and industry competitive prices.
PJ of Renovation Concepts is terrific and does excellent work. He has completed multiple jobs for me, and they always turn out exactly how I imagine them. PJ is very responsive and will work closely with you to make sure you get exactly what you ask for. Quality is excellent, and just as important, PJ's is someone you can trust to get the job done correctly and on time. His craftsmanship is of a very high quality: the built-in bookshelves, bathroom, and porch he did for me are amazing to see (they were very run down but PJ did an amazing transformation). He has helped get my 62 year old run down home looking back the way it should. He was always very patient with my multitude of questions and offered alternative solutions if he thought something might not work the way I imagined. He was also conscious of my budget and worked with me to stay within it. I will definitely want PJ to do the rest of my remodeling work.
Description of Work: Four separate jobs in all: Had all new windows (17 total) and a new front door and side lights installed. Bathroom was gutted and remodeled (new waterproof drywall, new plumbing and electrical, new sink, toilet, lights, mirror, towel bars, shelves, and medicine cabinet installed, and claw foot tub refinished. All new tile on walls and floors.). Brand new front porch added (brick railing with concrete stone caps, new stained and patterned concrete floor and walkway, new brick flower beds in front). Had built-in bookshelves added to bedroom/office.
