About us

PLEASE GO TO MY WEBSITE * http://www.mikefuscobuilder.com * Custom Modular Homes, Custom Site Built Homes, Custom Remodeling. 39 years construction Experience. 35 years construction management 28 years as a licensed GC. I generally work within a hour drive or less of Strasburg Virginia. Some estimates I charge for or require a deposit. This is if I must draw plans or many hours of work are required. Most estimates I do not charge for. When I need to draw plans I need to charge for that time and will apply this cost toward the project if I am hired. The experience thus far in Virginia has been a really good one. I have a cad design program and a 3D home design program. My service area for projects would be NOVA as far out to Manassas and up to Leesburg and the Northern Shenandoah Valley. I go as far south as New Market, Broadway, and Timberville, on 81 roughly. I am looking to expand into West Virginia up the I-81 corridor and to Harpers Ferry and over to Hardy County, I need to take the exams for the West Virginia Builders License. I am a Class A Licensed Virginia Builder. The picture on the Angie's List website is of a remodeling project I completed. For now please go to my website to see pictures of projects. I am a General Contractor mainly a new home builder, I build additions, and remodel also. I work on larger projects and I also work on smaller projects. I do not work on emergency projects and insurance projects. My business is not designed for emergency work. I am a quality custom contractor. You can have a quality custom smaller home too. I am swamped at this time, please call I am still interested in your project and I will let you know when I am available. Things are extremely busy right now. I am looking to schedule the construction of new homes and remodeling projects. Only contact the phone number or email on my website. Excellent! We were so apprehensive to build a custom home when we couldn't be there every day to oversee the project( we were 5 states away). Mike kept us up to date with photo's and progress reports. He met up with us to select finishes and was so helpful giving us tips and recommendations. Top quality workmanship. Truly and very happy with our forever home.

Working with Mike was a wonderful experience. We communicated weekly for months during the construction of my home. At the time, I was living in another state and had full confidence that my home would be a superior project under Mike's guidance and direction. Eleven years later my home is still standing. Individuals who visit my residence marvel at the construction, details and features that mark Mike's gifted abilities. Most importantly, Mike is an honest man and a person of integrity. In an industry where many builders produce a inferior product or "cut corners", Mike did not subscribe to those devious business practices. Mike was entrusted with the biggest financial investment I had ever made while I lived in another state. Some individuals thought I foolish to place so much trust in this contractor. I however was not disappointed at the results. In fact he exceeded my expectations. Eleven years later a relationship that began as a business arrangement evolved into a family friend.
Description of Work: Mike Fusco Builder was the contractor selected to build my home eleven years ago. It was an exciting and intimidating experience. It helped that Mike Fusco was patient with me throughout that daunting process. It was a great benefit having an experienced builder with expertise in finance, construction and general contracting. I had full confidence in his ability to construct a sturdy, durable and attractive home. And I was not disappointed. Mike constructed a beautiful home that met my physical needs and budgetary constraints. He also added features to enhance the quality and beauty of my home. I was quite fortunate to have selected this company to build my home.

Mike Fusco is an excellent builder and contractor. He built a house for me and a house for my daughter immediately afterwards. Mike was the ultimate professional. He was thorough and conscientious and demanded good work from his workers. Additional, he did his best to make sure that the job was done within budget without cutting corners. I would recommend Mike to anyone who needed a good builder.

Mike's attention to detail in even the initial small handyman projects was what had me bring him back for the additional work. Mike, unfortunately, suffered with some serious health issues while working for me (they've now been resolved, thankfully!), and yet he still ensured that everything he did in my home was done to as close to perfection as possible (hard to do with my home being so unlevel...). Mike took every opportunity in every step of the process to inform me of what needed to be done, and the best and most cost effective way to do it. When coming across unexpected snags (i.e. after pulling the old laundry area down and finding cracked support beams), he was always up front about what things were going to cost, how it needed to be fixed, and how long it would take. Mike is one of those rare workers who is not only honest to a fault, but is not happy until he has completed his projects to the complete satisfaction of his customer AND himself. He offered me many opportunities along the way, many of which I politely declined, to learn how to do some of the smaller tasks in order to save me money. Mike is ALWAYS either available to reach via phone, or will get back with you very quickly. I will definitely have Mike back for future projects - when you find someone who is trustworthy, tries to save you money, and has the 100% pride in his work that Mike does, why would I hire anyone else?
Description of Work: I started off calling Mike for handyman services such as fixing a staircase handrail, installing a wall-mounted TV mount, etc. I then had him come back and do a larger remodel project that included ripping down a previous very poorly done (by someone else) laundry/storage area and rebuilding it, installing storage cabinets along one wall in my dining room so that they look like built-ins, repairing areas of sheetrock throughout my home, replacing all the interior doors/doorknobs, repurposing a previous pantry space into a "mudroom" type storage area, opening up my availability to storage under the staircase, a complete remodel of my half bath, repairs in the other 2 baths, and more that I probably can't remember.

Hi [Member Name Removed], Thank you for the review. I enjoyed working for you on your home. Health wise I am doing very good now. The doctors did a excellent job and the procedure was successful. I am looking forward to working for you again. I think probably one of the most dangerous things I found was when I was pulling down the drop ceiling and I found the hot wire. That was a 220 wire and it was hot laying next to a metal duct. That wire was there since the house was built. Luckily it never hurt anyone. The house is more functional with better use of the living space. I really enjoyed working with you! Looking forward to returning to work on your home. Have a good day and wish you the best!

Please enter what you would like the response to look like:Good Day Mr [Member Name Removed], I discussed all of this with you on the phone. 1.) I had congestive heart failure due to persistent AFIB (almost for 5 months until surgery) try it sometime and see how you feel). I was basically dying. I just had heart surgery. I am recovering and will not be able to do any physical work until the end of July or after. Depends on how fast my body heals. 2.) Being considerate, I contacted you as soon as possible, so you could move to the next contractor. This is due to you needing someone next week. I knew I could not meet your schedule demands. 3.) I have other people ahead of you when I do start working. I have to complete one current remodeling project and then start other projects. This will be once I am physically able to do so. Many people are in front of you. If I could do physical work right now; I still could not work on your project due to other projects. Your schedule is not something I can work with. When contacting me please give it a month or more for me to get to your project. Sometimes I can be booked out 6 months to a year. 5.) Sterling is out of my service area. I do not go to Sterling. It is too far away. I go as far in as Manassas and Ashburn. Any farther towards DC is just too far away for me. 6.) Next Angies list I think has me in the flooring and tile service categories. I sub contract that work out. I am a general contractor (carpenter and builder)not a tile and flooring contractor. 7.) Trying to be considerate of others, I contacted people as soon as possible. Everyone else I told that I am recovering from heart surgery fully understood. 8.) I am interested in any work where I can make a proper profit, That is not too far away. 9.)The only thing I would personally work on, on your to do list is the drywall and the shower head replacement. I am not a licensed plumber. 10.) I do not like to turn down profitable work with people I think I can work with. I hate turning down work, but sometimes this is how it works out.

I'll be honest, I think this guy is crazy. I'm not trying to be defamatory - that's my honest opinion. If he isn't on some kind of medication, I think he needs to be. If he would have confined himself to simply saying that he didn't think he could help us, or that he didn't think a pre-manufactured house was a good idea, that would have been ok. We'd heard that from other general contractors we'd approached before, and that's what I was expecting. Instead, I was subjected to high pressure sales pitches, with him trashing our house so badly - that I had worked over a year on just to get - that I was almost in tears. He constantly bragged about how smart he was, and all of his so-called qualifications, and kept talking and talking - so much that I could not get a word in edgewise. He came across as the worst combination of a stereotypical used car salesman and a bully, honestly. I don't know how he ever made it on Angie's list, but I think he should be removed promptly! Maybe he used to be good at one point, but if that was ever true, something has definitely changed for the worse.

Response from Mike Fusco Builder
1.) First you had no business slandering me. I am not licensed to build a manufactured home. I am a licensed builder. You ran into a situation with your contractor from XXXXHomes which sells what in the industry we call hudular products and manufactured homes(mobile Homes). You contacted me, the company you hired handled the financing of your project. They were not getting the job done in a timely fashion. Your permit was pulled February 15 2018 by xxxxx homes dealership. You contacted me July 20, 2018. A permit expires in 6 months if work does not commence. First big problem your original contractor did not get started at that time. Your permit was expiring. Nothing I can do about that. 2.) You stated you had a modular house. Legally that is a system engineered modular house built to state building code off frame. That is what I build. Icon legacy homes and Excel Homes, otherwise I stick build. I looked at the plans taking my time to look at them and upon examining the plans I noticed the on frame build and that this was a manufactured home. For those that do not know manufactured homes are built to recreational vehicle code. The other type has a slang term called a hudular in the industry(on frame mod.). It is a on frame manufactured home upgraded to state building code. I construct neither of these types of projects. I am not licensed to erect or build manufactured homes. I am a house builder state building code. 3.) I should have closed the door and said no I can't help you at all. I am not licensed to build your home. That would have made you happy? Instead since you were in such duress, stress and upset at the time; I decided to see what I could do. So I suggested going to a modular house. Well that was out of your budget range. You also had a contract with the other company and a deposit on the home. I suggested going to a smaller home for a modular house like I build because what I build costs more per sq ft. I also stated you would have to get a conventional bank loan with a construction loan. Standard industry procedure. I do not finance projects, neither am I a financial institution. XXXXX homes has in house financing for their product. So this was a high pressure sales pitch? Ok I was comparing the differences and you took offense. You took offense about many things you had no business taking any offense to. This is just business. I just told you some differences in my product and how I construct. If that offended you well, what can I say? I was just offering a different solution. There was zero pressure. I really don't care if a land a project or not. I am not a pressure person so that was your perception. 4.) I only have so much time to spend on each person to see if they are going to purchase product. Yes I do control the conversation. Potential clients that call me are rarely experts in my field. Yes I control the conversation. Especially due to excessive internet contact. I have to screen people as rapidly as possible and move to the paying customers, that will pay my price. Just the way it is. I have to verify if it is in my interest to look at the project. I don't have time to waste, one person can only do so much in a week Maybe I need four of me LOL. Yes I will control the conversation many times and yes I will have small talk in this to see who you are as a person and ascertain what your needs are. After over three and a half decades in this business I know what I have to ask. 5.) What I build costs more. I also am a quality oriented contractor and that comes at a cost. I am not a volume contractor like xxxxx builders you purchased from. I am quality custom, this is the market nitch I work in. This is a business choice. I am a small custom contractor and want it that way. 6.) You were in a jamb and I offered you what I build. I actually had empathy for you. No high pressure sales I went above and beyond. I would say the pressure/stress/mental anguish was on you because of your situation. So you think that the next person with a problem I should just shut down; rather than see if there is a option I can offer them? There was no good reason for what you said. It was wrong, just plain wrong. Quite frankly you had no business writing what you wrote. You know what they say about opinions? What you did I will say again is inaccurate in many ways. Slander to be accurate. It was a inaccurate defamation of character. There was no good reason for what you wrote, I am a good person and you do not know me at all. So if you don't like me, I am good with that. I just move on to those that want my services. I am very good at what I do for the right price. 7.) So conclusion, there is nothing I can do for you. I had to go through the options and at least try. I also am currently working on a remodeling project. Started as a alteration and I am remodeling the entire home now. They like me. Just differences in people and circumstances. Some people like each other and some people do not. At this point in my life If I get the job I do, if I don't I don't, on to the next one. I am a straight forward person and honest. Wish you the best and I hope you are living in your home now.

The quality of the work was good, however more tasks should have been completed in the allotted 4 hour timeframe. Upon arrival, Mike's drill was not charged and ready for use, which is unacceptable and delayed starting the work. He also didn't prioritize the tasks in order to compensate for the equipment not being ready for use. Additionally, he moves very slowly which henders getting tasks done in a timely manner. All of our tasks were relatively simple handyman tasks that we expected a professional contractor to move through rather quickly and simply didn't meet our expectations. Mike does quality work, but he moves to slow for our liking and we should've received more work for the money. We have to finish a portion of the work he started but didn't complete which we aren't pleased with. We question his ability to take on minor or major projects and complete them in a timely fashion and therefore wouldn't hire him again. We would recommend Mike, but he just isn't for us because we expect good quality, good price and timeliness.

Response from Mike Fusco Builder
Your review is inaccurate and is totally your opinion. You have complaints about 4 contractors you have hired to date. You have not been happy with any of them. Oh maybe one? You know what they say about opinions. Yours is not a professional contractors opinion. Yes your husband manages for the military but that is not what I construct. Your unrealistic expectations and demanding attitude makes you the type of client I do not want to work with. You want things fast and cheap. (See my website link to Mike Holmes). You have four hours when the time goes over that you pay $75.00 a hour. This is not a contract to complete what you think in your mind should be done in that time. This is called time and material. I Installed a wire shelf (Oh, levels itself and cuts itself, the tools and the drop cloth just transport themselves upstairs) and it was in a tight space. Additionally I added a support to a shelf that was falling down. You did not have the proper hardware I needed to anchor the shelf to the stud. Good thing I remembered to bring my own hardware for shelf installation in case you did not have something. Oh I was unprepared?????? I installed two large curtain rods (properly attached the rods to the wall, properly anchored to a stud, which was not on your original list. I caulked up crown molding in the laundry room (which was very difficult to maneuver in and I did not want to scratch you washer and dryer or damage your counter top). I never said I would get the crown molding painted in four hours. I told you it would take longer than that for the crown molding. I drilled multiple holes in two cabinets for electronic equipment, (if I get in a hurry I would splinter out and screw up the holes in the particle board. I would be responsible). Had to get equipment off of the truck and put it away. Plus I looked at other things you were talking about. What do you want for four hours? You actually had 12 plus hours of work you wanted done in four hours. It is that simple. I can't put an experienced carpenter in the field for $50.00 a hour and make a profit. $75.00 is closer to what it costs today. Do you realize that your four hours takes me eight hours of my time? Not much money is it. You needed a contract price then you would have never hired me. 1.) You misrepresented facts on me not being ready with a charged drill. That is why I have a dewalt drill that plugs into a electrical outlet so you lost no time. This is your first inaccurate statement. I do not have to have the drill charged because I have a drill that plugs into a outlet while the drill charges. 2.) You made the list and told me what you wanted me to do. Quite frankly you also wanted 12 hours of work done in 4 hours. You prioritized the tasks. You were not going to pay for anything over the deal blast price at the four hours. Sounds like you want more than you should get for that money. I run into that with half of the people who buy deal blasts. Most do not know, they are not in the business to know, so I do not find fault with that. 3.) Next I do quality work but you do not know what it costs or what it takes to perform such work. How many construction projects have you bid on using an excel spread sheet? How many custom residential construction projects have you managed? I mean from the ground up, start to finish. 4.) I have built many homes and larger projects and will construct more in the future. I have subcontractors and I can hire people. I have been a licensed contractor for the most part since 1988. 5.) You cannot have your American dream by ruining mine. I know my costs and what it takes in this business. I've only been in this line of work for 37 years. So you know more than I do?????? 6.) I think it is closer to I did not meet your HGTV expectations. Well I can tell you about HGTV. 7.) I am a licensed general contractor and yes you probably do not like my pricing because I doubt you could afford me or be willing to pay for my years of knowledge and expertise. You are not entitled to my services or work. I also need to make a good living for what I do so your "thinking" that you know what a project should cost is not my concern; profitability and quality is my concern and sizing up a potential client to see if I even want to work with them is another concern. This is a two way street. I would not want to work for you or the type of person you are I would have no peace. I have been in this business a long time. 8.) I regularly work with an electrical subcontractor on my projects who has 40 years experience and a good size company I might add, and he said "Mike, your jobs always run very smooth." He should know. 9.) To I can't handle larger projects is absolutely a slanderous and a lie. I have constructed many projects and will in the future. You hold a class A builders license? How many decades have you been building? Tell me about all the major construction projects that you are the contractor on and had to turn a profit? Not you are the one that has to turn the profit ethically and legally. Two criteria. 10.) You should not have received more work for the money and what money? Deal blasts are loss leaders. You should have paid more. 11.) I am also cautious when working in people's homes because I do not want to damage or break anything. You want a bull in a china shop? Well things will get screwed up and broken. I know how to approach this. I am responsible for anything that gets broken. Now do you understand???? 12.) Honestly your opinion is absolutely unrealistic. I am very pleased that I will not have to work with you ever again. You are not my type of client. I am not being emotional just stating facts. 13.) I was the third or fourth contractor you complained about working on your home? 14.) We out here in the civilian world I am not in the military. 15.) I am a excellent contractor that constructs quality projects beyond code and I take pride in my work. This is my history and this will be my future as well. 16.) As you said I do quality work and that takes time. You had a wish list and that is what it was a unrealistic wish list. 17.) There are actually thousands of people that have hired me over the decades and are very happy with my work and they know I am good at what I do. Houses built 30 years ago still zero structural issues. 18.) Within 4 hours you ascertained my abilities in construction? Yeah right? You never saw my resume. You know everything about me???? You just passed over a excellent, ethical, quality oriented contractor, with a great deal of knowledge. What do you know about structures, soils, all the sciences involved in building? You do not know a thing about me and what my knowledge and skill sets are. Honestly I can not and will not work with people with your attitude. Not worth my time. Just because you do not want to pay to do the job right and take the time to do the job right is not my problem. I will do the job right and there is a time to speed up and a time to slow down in this business. Of course you would know that if you had been managing construction projects for three decades or so. I am not talking about military management I am discussing custom construction. The construction management triangle has three sides, funding, speed, quality. Do you know what this is? You will drop out on the funding. I will charge what I need to charge to keep the quality up and make a proper living for 2017. I am not going to work for 30 year ago prices. I will not move too fast in someones home where I have to pay for things if I screw them up or break them. This is my responsibility and my integrity, so I only move so fast. We are not framing houses here or roofing. I will be too expensive for what you are willing to pay. I am a quality contractor and yes I build larger projects. You just do not want to pay what it costs. I hope you find that contractor of your dreams, so far you are unhappy with many of them you have hired to date. The right amount of money and cash flow for a project will staff a project with the people I need. Yes and I do need to make a profit I am happy with. We can not work together and do not agree. There is a long list of people that would disagree with you, people that I have constructed projects for over the decades. As I said I have a long list of people that are very happy with my work. I am quality oriented and good at what I do. I have the sub contractors and the people to put in the field for any project I decide to tackle. That is why I hire these people, I hire employees when I need to staff up. You deserved this response to set things straight. I will not apologize to you in any way shape or form. You are not owed one. We could never work together and you are not the type of client I am looking for nor want. I hope you find that contractor you are looking for! I wish you well, you'll find someone, but it will never be me, the feeling is mutual. Good luck and wish you well; glad we are free to make choices. I am a good person heart and soul.

Hi [Member Name Removed], Thank you for the review. That project had its challenges and nothing I could not handle. Yes the punctuality thing has been tough. I was moving during your project. That is equipment, personal items, etc, and injured my back in the process. Yes I was burned out after living in hotel rooms and everything else for months attempting to get reestablished in my home state of Virginia. A 300 mile move is rough when combined with normal life. I still completed your project with all of it! It was great working with you [Member Name Removed]! Thanks for the review now that the 300 miles plus move is mostly over things will go more smoothly. I will be very happy when I have a construction crew again and I am constructing projects over $100,000.00 I do excel more at the larger projects. I have put together a great team of subcontractors at this point also. I like the smaller projects too! So no job too small for people that have smaller projects. i am very happy to be moved back to Virginia. I like the valley but I am close enough to Northern Virginia to work there. Looking forward to working in places like NOVA, Ashburn, Leesburg, Manassas, Gainsville, the Shenandoah Valley and all points in between. I have had a very good experience over all working with clients from The Valley and Northern Virginia region. It is good to be home! That will be done this weekend. Looking forward to working in Northern Virginia and the valley. I will construct larger projects throughout the state. I wrote a long reply because I want people to know I am here to stay and ready to take on all the work I can handle. I will construct larger projects all over the state. I also offer modular homes which I feel are a great price to value ratio of site built homes. I stick build homes also. Thank your for the review and have a good day!

Prettty good. Mike completed all the items on my list and a few extra tasks too. My only issue is that he changed our appointment time at the last minute. He did arrive on time on the new time.

Hi [Member Name Removed], Yes I appreciate your patience. I was living in a motel room and my tools were in storage a 30 minute drive away. Yes that is over. That was not like living at home and having my tools with me. A 300 mile move is a lot of work especially when one is moving a business too. I am moved in and almost totally settled in. I wanted to come back to my home Virginia. I am settled in now at a house and I have my office set up. I am ready to take on all the work I can. I also have a list of good subcontractors to work with me on larger projects. I hope your dogs enjoy all of the dog baths. Thank you for your patience, your review, and have a good day!

Mike overcame several obstacles due to the house being 41 years old. It appears things were done differently when the house was built. He persevered and the job done perfectly. Mike was very knowledgeable. He actually is an expert on high end remodels. I looked at some of projects and determined that he would be the go-to guy when I re-do my kitchen. Good experience.

Hi [Member Name Removed], Thank you for the review. High end remodels and custom home construction are my main areas of expertise. I build modular homes and site built homes. Looks like I have a couple of houses dropping into the pipeline. Been a long time NC has been very slow for 8 years when it comes to custom homes; however, Virginia seems to be rather healthy. It is good to be back home in Virginia. I am a Virginian. Thank you very much [Member Name Removed] it was good to meet you and I enjoyed our conversation very much! Hope to work with you again one day.

Writing review for Angie list Mike did a great job! I am very happy with his work. We worked together. I was helping with the work and this saved me on the project. We stained and applied polyurethane to the shoe molding I wanted to install. The trim joints were so tight I there was no need for putty. Maybe one place and it was less than 1/16 of a inch gap maybe if that. With stained trim I appreciated his tight tolerances on the molding. Looks like the trim grew there. Mike is detail oriented and also taught me how to install the trim myself. Mike was willing to teach me and give me pointers to help me save money for DIY. His work is very neat and he is a easy going person to work with. The finish he applied to the trim is smooth and looks great! The tight fitting cuts looked good. He is a master carpenter as I can see. He will be working on my home more in the future. He is a conscientious carpenter. Mike also helped with a few smaller issues on my flooring. I am very happy with the services performed and would recommend him.

Mike Fusco provides exceptional service to his customers. He responded to my phone calls, emails and was available to address concerns I had regarding the development of my project. The service he provided especially with regard to garbage disposal, left me satisfied and content with his work. I have not used other contractors since being introduced to Mike Fusco about 8 years ago. Anyone who retains his service will be satisfied with the quality of his work.

I called Mike for a quote on a residential living room addition. He was quick to reply, professional and punctual on our agreed date of meeting. He was easy to talk to and had a great wealth of information on building and met all of my requirements. I appreciate his understanding with my limited amount of free time (full time working mom of two kids, one a 6 month old) and the ease of being able to get in contact with him at any time. He was able to give great recommendations for the construction job and a ball park estimate. We are waiting to decide on what direction to go with the build currently but if we are able to afford Mike's level of craftsmanship I know we will be happy with him as our contractor.

Hi [Member Name Removed], Thank you for contacting me. I would like to build your project. I can get a exact price once we have plans and I can bring sub contractors and others to give you a firm price on the remodel. I will do the best I can on the price. I gave you a rough idea it could be less but it should not go over the maximum I quoted, highly doubtful. I will do the best on the price I can and I appreciate you calling me. You were a pleasure to talk with. I think coming out the front of the house with the addition will be better than attempting to go out the back. Please contact me when your architect has the plans ready and I can give you a firm quote. I have some great ideas for the mancave part of the project. The living room too. I hope to talk with more people in [Member Information Removed] soon. Have a good day and thank you

The project started with the addition being constructed and then the new kitchen was built into the space, this included a custom 13 ft live edge maple bar – which was done my Mike. After completion of the new kitchen, the old kitchen was demolished and the new construction started. Mike was extremely helpful during the entire project – he had lots of great ideas and worked with us on getting the little details that we wanted. He helped us find the maple slab, that would later become one of the most beautiful live edge bars that I have seen, and he pointed us in the right direction for other items and contractors to get the finishing touches we were looking for (Flooring & Cabinets). Mike was the General Contractor and had a mostly great set of subs that worked for him, he also coordinated and worked with the other contractors that we hired – Stove Installation, Cabinets, and Flooring. This was an overall $250K project and yes, we will hire Mike again – we are already talking to him about finishing out our basement and another Addition (New Master Bath with steam room). It was pleasure working with Mike and I look forward to starting the new projects soon. As I said, Mike and his crews are not the fastest working folks - this project took almost a year to complete - some of this was due to weather and some was due to coordination of Mike's Sub-Contractors.
Description of Work: If you want the project done fast, don’t hire Mike. But, if you want the project done right, hire Mike. This project was a 2-part project: 1st, a circa 448 sf addition (14 ft X 32 ft) which was designed to be the new kitchen / dining area. This would also include a deck and enclosed pouch (another 12 X 32 foot space). 2nd, the old kitchen was turned into a laundry room, powder room, and a living room expansion. This project required that it be done in two parts, as I need to have a functioning kitchen during the entire project – my granddaughter likes to eat, LOL.

We contacted Mike regarding building our forever home. We have never built a home before, so we had many questions. The conversation started with an email, but turned into a great phone conversation. Clearly Mike has great experience as a builder/contractor. He explained how the process works, where some hidden costs are, and some ways we can reduce our expenses. I completely appreciated his honesty and being upfront on our expectations. I left the conversation very comfortable that we could work with Mike and vice versa. We will keep you posted as our home progresses!

Very busy but not too busy to write long argumentative messages. Here are our last few messages: Fusco: I am geared for custom work for private individuals only. I must Pre qualify those potential clients. Good luck in you search For highly skilled licensed building contractors. Your approach Will not attract seasoned building contractors like myself. Have a good day! Me: You have a terrible attitude. Fusco: My attitude is what it needs to be for business. I am booked out till June of next year and my clients are extremely pleased with my craftsmanship and professionalism. 1.) It states in my profile I will have a phone interview with you first, there is a reason for this. That is termed a meeting of the minds, to see if I want to work with you or if you want to work with me. 2.)You also stated you will not pay for estimates. Depending on the project you will pay me for a estimate because of the time involved. I need to make a living for my time. The money for the estimate will be applied towards the project if I receive the contract. This is business and I have been in this for decades I know exactly what I need to do. My clients like me and there is a process to this. I am in business to make a good profit. I am very busy and we obviously can not do business. I must pre screen all clients to see if we can work with each other and if they are realistic as to their expectations and cost of the project. We obviously can not work with each other. Sorry it worked out this way. I am booked out till next June anyway. As I said before good luck in your search for a competent contractor. Have a Good Day! Fusco: One more I am out 45 days just to look at a project. Sorry things worked out like this. Have a Good Day!

Mr. [Member Name Removed], You left out the first message you sent me and the reason for my response. You would not pay for estimates and no phone calls. Ok you read my business profile I take. It states I will have to pre qualify you on the phone and then I may have to charge for a estimate. You obviously do not understand general contracting. You need a handyman. If you are a general contractor I do not sub contract. You misrepresented the truth and I have choice words for a individual as yourself. You must have read Ms [Member Name Removed] response. I have removed myself from receiving anymore messaging from angieslist. This is now shut down. I found out other businesses have shut down their messaging center on angies list gee I wonder why? People like you. All this would have taken was a phone conversation but you deliberately provoked me. You probably would have been vetted in the phone call and we could not do business. For people that want a excellent ethical honest contractor like myself the only way is to contact me is on my phone. Yes people can call me on the phone! LOL! If you are subcontracting out projects small and large I hope you are a licensed general contractor and hold such license in Virginia and North Carolina. It is illegal to do so otherwise. For anyone else I have very happy clients and there is a process to the custom contracting process. Do not contact me and say you want to start in three weeks that tells me you don't understand the process on a larger custom project. Go to my website and click on the link Mike Holmes has on there about hiring a contractor. What you don't see is that with the internet too many people contact contractors. They must be screened because a literal 99% are nothing and a waste of time. Many have no idea what things cost, they can't afford what they want. Others are so cheap and selfish I will be the 7th or tenth contractor they talked to trying to screw over the contractor. Then you have internet shoppers surfing the net not going to do a thing and wasting my time. Others are scam artists scam artists will not talk with a contractor on the phone to get my information. Mr. [Member Name Removed] instead of being a selfish trouble making human Mr. [Member Name Removed] end your cranial rectumitice and understand in today's world there are decisions a prudent business person has to make. This is not 30 years ago and the dynamic and people have changed. Why don't you take the time to find out why there is a process. To me this looks more like harassment and you misrepresented facts by not posting the entire email. Being a small business I do not have time to go running all over the place for your pleasure; Thus, the need to pre-qualify potential clients. I must focus on paying clients I am not a free government service! Oh that is right that is not free the tax payers pay for it. This messaging me will be shut down now so people like you and MS [Member Name Removed] will no longer be able to contact me. This way I can focus on paying customers that are fair and willing to pay a fair price for the type of quality services I offer. They also know how to converse and have a meeting of the minds. Honestly I do not want clients like you or Ms. [Member Name Removed]. Learn to communicate properly. There is a process you went whining with your tonka trucks and went home. Grow up Mr. [Member Name Removed]! My attitude is proper for the type of people we have in America today. All you had to do is talk on the phone with me. Could have texted then talked. I have deaf people text me and I help them find contractors in their area if I can't get to the job. You slandered a good man. As I said realistic honest clients only, not internet cheap price surfers. It is a waste of my time as a seasoned contractor to talk with low bid mentality people, I will not work for them. I only care to attract the right type of clients. Sorry it worked out this way but people like you need a dose of reality. Good luck to you in your search for a competent contractor. I think that did it LOL! I am wore out with people like you. I do not need it in my life. Have a great day! Mike Mike Fusco Builder 21 hours ago Hi Heather, I was very busy when I typed the email earlier. I will need to talk with you before I proceed further. I also would like to know if you have plans and specifications drawn up? If not we will need plans and specifications. This is not a free service and is a lot of work. I need to see where your budget is at also. There are reasons for this. I do not work up bids for everyone that calls me. 98% of the people will waste my time. I do not have time for that. Hope you understand. I am interested but have to prescreen potential clients. Too many individuals waste my time. Have a great evening! Mike Fusco Heather Chapel 21 hours ago Thanks for your response. I completely understand about people wasting time. I have had 4 different people come and we go over everything with them and then we never hear back from them. We started this process back the first part of August. We want to begin renovation in the next 2-3 weeks. I doubt this will be possible since the lack of work ethic that the ones around here have. No we have no plans or drawings. We are just needing an estimate of what the cost might be. I would be happy to send you pics of what the house looks like and what we are wanting. I don't mean to sound ugly but I will not pay for an estimate. If had done so I would be out of a lot of money. We are going thru Wells Fargo with a renovation loan. If this isn't something that you are interested in I understand. Mike Fusco Builder 20 hours ago Hi Heather, I will need plans for my sub contractors and for myself to construct the project. Let's talk on the phone. Bidding projects properly is not that simple. You can talk with past and current clients. There is no way to start any project in 3 weeks. More like 3 months and winter will mess up pouring footers. This will require a phone conversation first. This way I can get you to grasp the process. A architect nis going to charge you $150.00 a hour to draw plans. I do not cost that much. There is a lot to cover. A phone conversation is a must first. I can give you a ball park number rather quickly that is why we need to talk email will not cover what needs to be discussed before a possible visit. I am very busy and it will be months before any construction begins. Call me at 919.901.2399 or send me your number Mike Fusco Builder 20 hours ago You also may not have realistic expectations on the costs to construct a project properly. It can take 2 to 3 weeks to get a building permit. Mike Fusco Builder 18 hours ago If you do not want to talk on the phone I do not have time I am very busy. Heather Chapel 1 hour ago I want to thank you for your time. I don't think you and I will work well together. I don't know if you are so busy that you don't take to the time to read your emails completely but you really need to start. There are several things that I have stated that you have obviously misconstrued. Im not a stupid women by any means. I am a nurse and as far as the construction business I have a aunt that builds 1-3 million dollar homes. She retired last year and has helped me know what my cost should be and the process involved. Im not expecting a job to start in 2-3 weeks. If you had taken the time to read the email you would have seen that I said I started this in Aug and was hoping to start it around Dec. As far as the "I don't have time!" "Im busy!" comment. You got it!! You don't have to worry about this job. You are very rude! I will be reporting you to Angie List and leaving feedback. Mike Fusco Builder 1 hour ago Ms. Chapel, I did read your emails. I do not appreciate your approach. I do not care about your aunt. I have been in this business 36 years. I am that busy and no we can not work together. I read your emails and the other contractors have not returned a bid. I do not have time right now. That is being honest. Wanting to start in 3 weeks is not realistic. Good luck in your search for a contractor I could not break ground on your project for at least 4 months. As far as the multi million dollar homes many times they are the worst people to work with. I will write a reply. I charge for bids and drawing plans. You are out of line. Have a Good Day! Mike Fusco Mike Fusco Builder 54 minutes ago I do not have time and am too busy for the time frames you want to meet with me. You are rude. My current clients waited for 8 months for me to start and I do not job hop. If your aunt knows so much then she should know you will need a set of plans and specifications to bid this properly. If you need a designer hire a architect if you will not pay me for my time. 2-3 weeks is harassment of me on your part. I am out over a month just to meet with you. On a addition you are looking at starting price of roughly $140.00 a sq ft and the price goes up from there. Decks I am at $35 a sq ft and up from there. You can put $200 a sq ft or more in a house or addition not hard to do. I can understand why the other contractors have not contacted you. The problem is you not everyone else. I offered to talk with you to explain things on the phone and you refused, obviously. Again I have a process to this for good reason. You are out of line. I am not your slave. Have a Good Day!

Hi to all, closer to I could not get past Ms. [member name removed] attitude. As I let her know once I was tired of her attitude I need to talk on the phone first. Yes I am actually that busy right now. When I said a month to meet with her possibly that is the truth, I am that far out with meeting with people. I do not have time to waste. I will prescreen you as a potential client. This is a two way street. 1.) To see if you can afford the project you are wanting to construct. 2.) If I need to draw plans I charge for this service it is not free. 3.) If you do not want to pay me hire an architect. 4.) Be realistic when contacting a contractor. 5.) I do not have time to waste with frivolous people thus pre screening. 6.) I am a quality contractor and not here to build for everyone out here. 7.) Do not send me a email and say here are the times I have available. Better be ready to talk on the phone. 8.) I do not want everyone for a client some people are best to not work for. 9.) See we both agree we do not want to work together that is great! If you are cheap seeking low bidder or anything like that do not contact me. Sincere clients with the money that can afford my professionalism only. I am very good at what I do, but it will not be for a deal where I lose money. I will not be taken advantage of. Contact me and be prepared to talk on the phone, You will see if we can work together or not. I have had to become this way because too many people wasted my time. Do you work for free? Watch property brothers and get the reality house [member name removed]. That simple. I do not and will not work for people like you. Been in this business too long to put up with a client like you. Four contractors never came back with bids according to you. Take a hint. Good luck in your search for a contractor. 4 were not interested guess I am number 5. Be kind to whoever you hire [member name removed] might find out they are really good people heart and soul. You kicked a good person in the teeth here. You lost a chance to have a good honest contractor.
