Ever since Wittman installed our Carrier heat pump 14 months ago, it has been a problem. The heat pump did not work for more than a month in the winter because Wittman wired the system incorrectly on installation, according to the Wittman repairman who finally identified the problem. This took several visits to identify and resolve, all the while on expensive emergency electric heat during the winter. When we tried to turn on the AC in the summer, the AC did not work because the circuit board was blown. The part took a while to come in and Wittman failed to show up for the original service appointment. When the repair man finally came to replace the circuit board, he theorized that the circuit board was damaged when Wittman was trying to rewire the unit a few months prior. Not even one week later and the AC is now over-cooling the house. It is set at 76, cooling the house to 68. The unit is wet on the inside and completely soaks the air filter in less than a day...so this new system is AGAIN malfunctioning. Every time Wittman has been here to fix something, another problem appears shortly thereafter. I’m no expert, but so far, the fault seems to lie with the installation and repair rather than the heat pump itself. $10,000 is a lot of money to spend on a new HVAC system when we heated our house with electric heat and a wood fireplace and cooled it with window fans for more than a quarter of this year. Hopefully, Wittman will make this right and ensure our new HVAC system actually runs.

technician said a part was needed & would have to be ordered. We waited 3 weeks and called main office who said part was available and they would come fix it when they did the regular maintenance. They postponed that service because the technician had a personal emergency. When technician arrived for the rescheduled maintenance, he didn't have the part. It was on another truck Wittman fails on coordination & followup.

Service technician recommended replacement of the inverter. Did not have this service performed at this time due to cost, but we are also considering a replacement furnace, so did not want to pay for the repair then another furnace down the road. We have had a number of issues with this furnace over the 16 years we have owned it. Parts and labor over the period have run to the approximate cost of the unit itself when first installed (approx $3800). We have had enough difficulties with it that we are considering a full replacement. Apparently, 16 years (or less as we have had major parts replaced in the past) is about the service life of these units (Carrier Weathermaker 9200).They don't make that unit any more, but I would NEVER recommend it as we have had far too many repairs needed and had we known that, we would never have had that unit installed. I must admit to being skeptical of the recommended replacements, both Carrier units - Infinity 96% and the Performance 95% and doing some research prior to potentially having our unit replaced. I'd be interested in other's experience with these units. I have used Wittman Mechanical exclusively since moving into this house almost 19 years ago and when it came time to replace the air conditioner a few years ago, I also asked Wittman to do the work. I find their work to be high quality for the most part. It does depend on the experience level of the technician. When we have had an experienced person dispatched the work is prompt and correct. There wasone occasion a few years ago when a less experienced man was dispatched and that session did not go well. He did not seem to be able to nail down the problem and was less than certain of the required repair. We asked for Wittman to provide another technician for our work and they complied promptly. The issue was then resolved.

When we built the house, they were one of the few authorized dealers of the systems that we wanted to put into the house and the people that come out are the factory certified guys, which is a big deal. We have a geothermal heat pump system and those are not garden variety do-dads, so the fact that they send the factory trained tech to work on the systems is a big deal.

I've signed an annual contract. They are excellent. I would recommend them.

That was the company that installed the original heating and air conditioning when the house was built in 2003. I've always used them for my annual service, maintenance checks. Last summer I had them install a new heat pump and they did an excellent job, I was very satisfied. So, when the service man came out about a week ago to do the spring service. He said the air conditioning unit was on it's last legs, it may last through the summer, it may not. After some thought, I didn't want it to go out when it's 90 degrees and you can't get ahold of anybody. I wanted the best air conditioner and it had to work in conjunction with the furnace which is why I had them install both. I stay with them because of the service they provide and I've never had any problem with them. They said they would be here today. They showed up at 8 am and left about 3:30. They put the little booties on when they came in. I had an outside entrance downstairs and they would take their shoes off and if they needed something out in the truck they would put their shoes back on, go get it and and then take their shoes off again.

We have used Wittman Mechanical Contractors for over 6 years. We have had some good and bad experiences. When we have had bad we have told the company and they have told us they no longer work for the company. It is a big organization. They have always come back and made it right. They have been good. Their prices are reasonable.

I originally hired them in 1997 after interviewing 25 HVAC companies, and obtaining bids from 6 of the best companies interviewed. I hired Wittman because: (1) they had extensive experience and knowledge about residential air filtration systems; and (2) I was impressed with their professionalism. Their prices were not the least expensive, but also not the most expensive.Their initial performance in 1997 was superb. Installing the home filtration system was complex, and required modification of the existing duct work, and solution of a couple of pre-existing problems with the HVAC system. John Wittman and his crew were very easy to work with, and did an excellent job of solving problems and successfully installing all the equipment to top quality standards.I continued to hire them for installation of other equipment, because I was so pleased with their professionalism and top quality standards on the first job. Over those years, I got to know John Wittman as we interacted to discuss my needs and challenges in designing the overall system as we added filtration and ERV systems to the HVAC. Based on my experience, I can say without hesitation that John Wittman is simply an exceptional professional dedicated to excellence. He's easy to work with. He's also a real rarity in today's world: a person whose word is their bond. If John said something would be done, I was able to rely on that, knowing it would be done and done correctly for the agreed-on cost.

Contractor replaced capacitor, added freon and performed overall health check. He was timely, reasonable and professional. I also purchased the maintenance contract for routine fall/spring visits. Highly recommend.

I feel like they not only did a good job but that their rates were reasonable as well. If you have something that you need them to look at right away, they will come.

Whittman Mechanical Contractors were on time and they did a great job. I can't think of any way that they could improve on their service. I have been using them for several years and will continue to use them.

This is a very well run company. I have service agreements for both of my properties. They charge per number of zones in the house and it is peace of mind for me. They are always ready to help when I call!! I have been with them since 1996.

We needed a new A/C unit and humidifier and received quotes from 3 local providers. Wittman was the most affordable price so we went with them. Penny, who works out of their office, was very responsive and provided great customer service. Everything was installed correctly and efficiently and the install tech also gave us tips for how to improve the efficiency of our A/C unit.

During that time I have gotten to know John Wittman, the owner, very well. He is an outstanding professional dedicated to excellence in customer service; he's also a person whose word is his bond--very honest, trustworthy, reliable--if he says he will do something, you can rest assured that it will be done exactly and for the price quoted. I first hired John in 1996 after getting estimates from multiple HVAC companies to install: (1) a whole house HEPA and chemical air filtration system; (2) a high efficiency heat pump system; and (3) a fresh air ventilation system. Wittman Mechanical's prices were not among the lowest bids, but they were competitive for those companies that had knowledge and experience in installing and maintaining residential indoor air filtration and ventilation systems. Due to unique conditions, the install required extensive special procedures and attention to detail. John and his crew showed up when promised, and did an outstanding job of installing the systems correctly and consistent with all the detailed special procedures. They also did a great job educating me on operation and maintenance of the system, and any time I had questions after install, they promptly responded. After 14 yrs of good service, my fresh air ventilator ended its life. So in 2010, I hired John Wittman to install a new one. Once again, he and his crew did a superb job: on time; problem-free and correct install; thorough cleanup of the work site; top notch professionalism while treating us as old friends. John also is a font of knowledge and expertise on residential geothermal heating/cooling systems--something I've consulted with him on because we hope to do one in the future.

Overall process was excellent, from initial diagnosis of old system failure, through providing multiple options for replacement, to installing a new heat pump/fan coil Carrier (Performance) system. Much improved discharge heat temperature, and comfort level compared to older Carrier system--expecting better cooling performance in warmer months. Installation and checkout went extremely well. They have, for about 9 years, also provided timely, annual maintenance on our two installed systems.

It went very well. They are reasonably priced. They did a nice, clean job. They were great, fast and recommended to me by my neighbor.

When we asked for a bid on a new heat and a/c ystesm in the the spring of 2011 they sent a technician without any presentation or any material about the products they would use. After many years of using this company they either took us for granted or do not have system for being competitive in the bidding process. We would not consider using them again and contracted with a diferent company to install and service new equipment.

They are knowledgeable, prompt, and easy to work with. They keep the systems running well.

I appreciated the fact that they suggested it would be cheaper and more logical to just replace the whole system. I don't know how they did it, but my new system doesn't make any noise, it is so quiet. I love it. The whole experience was beautiful. They didn't mess up one single thing. I also got a good deal and I got a rebate for $400.00 on the system.
