Description of Work: Showed up 3 hrs late first day. Completely underestimated the time required to pack and load. The packers, though very thorough packed everything including cheap plastic measuring cups in 8 pieces of paper. The amount of paper used to protect things that didn't need protecting probably resulted in at least 10 extra boxes adding to the overall cost. The loading went very late resulting in our being unable to leave when we had originally planned. Only 2 or 3 small items broke but it was due to poor packing of those items that caused the damage. In these cases, very little paper was used. Go figure. We were pleased to have been able to obtain boxes that we used to pack books and such ahead of time to save some money. We did have to have some things corrected to show that the boxes we packed we got credit for. We only used these movers to pack, load and deliver to a warehouse at destination, but not to deliver and unload due to having to store things for a few months. The pricing was very confusing.

Description of Work: Packed and moved using this United Agent, Bayshore. The "contractors" that came out were friendly, but unexperienced. They did not shrink wrap any furniture, damaged and soiled furniture, and broke several items. Would not use. This was a corporate move, and they sent individuals who had less than 1 year of experience. Had to file 5 pages of claim damages and this is still ongoing. |

Description of Work: Moved from Alexandria, VA to Chicago, IL... packing and loading went great- they were on time and careful with everything. However, once the items were on the truck, it sat in Virginia for TWO WEEKS. We were quoted a delivery date of the week after loading, and the shipment didn't leave VA until two weeks later. The people I spoke to at Bayshore were helpful and honest with us, but they didn't have much control over the situation- North American Van Lines dropped the ball and there was nothing Bayshore could do. I was disappointed this experience wasn't better.

Actually, a B+ They were very attentive. They gave me used boxes so I could do a bunch of packing on my own to save cost. They were in touch and outlined everything from the beginning to the end. The guys had to deal with moving out of a 10th floor condo. Though they handled it fairly well, it made it hard for the driver to supervise the packing of the truck. He was supervising in the condo and the other guys were packing the truck. There was some damage, which the driver was very upset about but the insurance that I purchased with the move covered the damage and the company who did the repairs was excellent! The estimate was practically to the penny...slightly less even. I would use them again.

Allied Van Lines, at least as represented by Bayshore Transportation in Woodbridge, VA, and commanded by owner-driver Bob Greer, are true professionals?a jewel among movers. We moved a houseful of stuff from Washington, DC to Escondido, California. There could not have been a more perfect move. There was one mistake. The company?s advance man underestimated the total weight, but no problem. The biggest truck I have ever seen showed up on moving day, on time. Mr. Greer looked at the quantity of our things and reported the mistaken estimate to the company. I thought, ?Oh, no, here comes the old bait and switch.? Most pleasant surprise: Allied and Mr. Greer, stood behind the estimate. Mr. Greer and his helpers were a joy to watch. They wrapped and over-wrapped everything bigger than a flashlight battery. They disassembled some furniture and reassembled it in CA, no additional charge. Our goods took only about a third of the available space on the truck. They then drove to the NY area to pick up two more moves going to our area. This way of working allows them to give a low price. I have read that some people object to multiple moves on one truck. But with Mr. Greer at the helm we had every confidence, which turned out to be justified. Once in CA, the movers showed up when they said they would. They determined their huge truck could not make it up our small winding road, so they rented a smaller truck, off-loaded and reloaded. Every step of the way, all was easy, nothing broken or disappeared, and because the commander-driver exuded professional competence, we never worried for a moment. Call them, and try to get Mr. Greer if you can.

Ward North American moved us from Alexandria, VA, to Plano, TX. I chose them because the agent, Ward, originates out of Texas and has storage facilities near our destination - just in case. From the Dulles, VA, facility, Victor Favella, who provided the initial quote, was professional and responsive while we worked out the details. WNA was neither the lowest nor the highest bid - and we were able to lock in the move and storage rate at a discount before we accepted the quote. The Dulles office kept in touch with us the entire time - including the 2.5 months of storage. There was a slight problem with the packing crew - one packer didn't want to pack the kitchen, for which he was trained, and tried to get a younger packer to do it who refused because he wasn't kitchen trained. We ended up one man short on the packing crew, but the moving crew the next day made up for any time loss. A week later WNA called to apologize for the incident and explained that one employee was let go and the other disciplined. Everything came out of storage just fine. A futon and some patio cushions didn't make it on the truck coming out of the warehouse - within an hour of the driver calling, they were delivered in perfect shape. While they were waiting, they put the beds together and opened boxes for us - they were not going to leave until the delivery was complete. Aside from the one packer, the crews were all well trained and worked very hard. They are professional and want to do good work. And they all seem to be happy. Ward prides itself on its extensive training program - rightfully so, from the professionalism of the crews to their care in packing our possessions.
