It was a satisfactory experience. We had been to another store, which gave us slightly different prices, but in the end, the total price was the same. Installation was done on time, as promised.
Description of Work: We purchased an electric range, and an over the range microwave, with a five year warranty. In addition, we paid for in-home installation. The salesman was very patient and answered all our questions.

Dryer stopped. Called sterling. They came when they said they would, called ahead, gave a reasonable suggestion about how to fix the dryer, fixed it, charged minimal, left politely, on time.
Description of Work: Needed advice about repair/replace a dryer and they repaired it with simple solutions, advising us to keep it for a while. It is still ticking.

they arrived by 9 am of the 9-1 window and were very quicjpk and efficient repairing the oven and fridge. They returned on 6/23/11 for dishwasher problem and arrived at 8:45. We discovered damage to the dishwasher drain pipe caused by a pest and dishwasher replacement was recommended. We will go through the same company for purchase and installation due to their professionalism.

They are excellent. I know when we bought them we were impressed with how knowledgeable the staff was about what they had in stock and what were looking at. They could talk about the features very well. It was a good experience and the price was good. Another reason we bought was that they provide local service. I will use them again in the future.

This was my first experience on Angie's List and it went extremely well. I called Sterling Appliance and they arranged for an appointment the next morning. They even rearranged the call order to accommodate my tight schedule. The technician. Allen. was terrific. He was on time and walked in the door with the part needed without having even seen the refrigerator. Amazing! After defrosting all the ice from the unit, he gave some helpful tips to detect the issue sooner if it ever happened again. I would definitely recommend Sterling Appliance to anyone who needs a repair done quickly and effectively at a fair price.

They were very good. They were prompt. He didn't charge me too much and I think he charged me less than normal. I didn't price too many others and I think their prices are comparable.

I called them shortly after 8:30 on a Monday morning and explained the problem. They were booked for that day and said they would be out the next morning but that they would also look for an opportunity to fit us in during the day. They called back a while later and said they were on the way. The technition knew the trouble, had the part, and got right to work. The refrigerator is doing its job again and not running continuously while the temperature rises, so I am happy.
Description of Work: Refrigerator was not cooling. They replaced the heating unit so frost wouldn't buildup to keep the coils from cooling.

They came out the same day I called. He was friendly, explained everything to me, and gave me some tips for future repairs. He had the needed part in his truck, repaired it quickly, and I think it was a good price, although I don't have much to compare it to. No complaints.

The technician from Sterling Appliance arrived promptly and diagnosed the problem(s). The valve/solenoid in the water line feeding the ice maker was not opening properly, and the water collecting on the bottom shelf was due to a drain from the freezer that had become blocked. The 2 problems were unrelated. The technician told us he sees many instances of both problems and promptly repaired them both. He had a new solenoid in his truck and repaired both problems in 45 minutes to an hour. He answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable and professional. I felt the service charge was very reasonable, especially when I had fears of having to replace the refrigerator. I would use Sterling Appliance again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: We were experiencing a problem with the ice maker in our refrigerator (not the kind that delivers ice through the door). The ice that was made was just the shell of the cube - not solid. We also had water pooling on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator. We assumed the ice maker was leaking and draining onto the lowest shelf.

I like that they didn't try to upsell us. I thought it was good service for a good price. When they came out for installation they were very meticulous and made sure that it was level. They also provided us with good insight when it came to selecting a model of dishwasher.

Had the parts with him and was able to diagnose and perform the repair quickly. Overall great performance!
Description of Work: Washing machine agitator stopped working. Repairman checked drive motor and agitator dogs. Found broken teeth on drive and needed to replace the dogs. Did both with parts he had with him. Did an excellent job.

He did good work, but was not the most pleasant when it came to pulling the oven out and putting it back in. When we called the company, my husband described the part to them, she said they no longer had the part, and that we would need to find it and then call them back to have them install it.

This has so far been a poor experience, based on my previous experience over the years with Sterling Appliance. I purchased a midrange GE dishwasher over the phone on a Friday to replace an old one, and I checked the model online after the salesperson identified what he recommended. Installation was scheduled for Tuesday, and a gracious man came to do that. The problem is that the dishwasher is missing its door springs, and the installation person left without apparently knowing that. He started the dishwasher, I observed, but when we went to load it the first time, WHAM went the door as it dropped. No springs. Now I have to wait for GE to come here and give me springs for the dishwasher. A small pet peeve - installers who arrive without what they need and want my old towels to protect the wood floor (although I told the store in advance they would be installing over a wood floor) and need my flashlight because theirs doesn't work. The installer was otherwise very professional and easy to work with. I told Sterling Appliance I thought they should be able to leave the house knowing that all parts for the dishwasher are there, but they did not seem very responsive. Their position is that it is a GE problem, and they didn't seem to acknowledge that they should check for all parts before they left -- I asked them to pass my request along, that it was basic to expect them to check for all parts, but the salesperson seemed noncommital although pleasant. (The installer was very professional, very gracious, but it's puzzling that this didn't get his attention.) Also, I got no receipt for the purchase. I had to call and ask that it be mailed. This is generally taking way too much of my time with too little responsibility shown by the store. I think I might look elsewhere for my appliances next time.

When it was decided that we needed to replace our existing electric downdraft cooktop with a newer unit, I did my research over the Internet. I looked at various downdraft cook top systems from GE to Bosch to Jenn Aire and decided to stick with Jenn Aire. I also knew that I wanted to replace my electric cooktop with a gas unit given gas cooktop's general ability to allow the cook/chef greater control of the burner. Once it was decided that we were going to go with a gas burning Jenn Aire downdraft cooktop, I looked at the various options that Jenn Aire offers at their website and decided on the model that met our needs. I then called all of the Jenn Aire dealers in the Greater Washington area and found Sterling Appliance to have the best price and the sales man was willing to work with me over the phone. He was able to answer all of my questions and the entire transaction was done over the phone/internet. The salesman and I negotiated a date and time that was convienent for me and the burner install person showed up at the appointed time, no issues. Since mine was a simple remove and replace of a Jenn Aire electric cooktop with a gas based unit, the installer was done in about two hours. I have since been enjoying the joys of cooking only was gas this time. Given that my install job was a rather simple remove and replace, I don't know if my experience will parlay to others but in general I can say that (1) I think I got the best price from Sterling Appliance and (2) the entire process from ordering to install was very hassle free - at least for me.
Description of Work: We had Sterling Appliance sell and install a gas burning Jenn Aire downdraft cooktop. We had a Jenn Aire electric cooktop which had to be removed and replaced with the gas burning unit. The installation person should up exactly at 9:00AM and since the gas burning unit was only a 1/4 of an inch or so smaller than the electric version that he was replacing, he did it entire remove and install job in about two hours. The entire process from me ordering the unit to removal of the cooktop to install went very smoothly. It was really hassle free.

The sales staff was outstanding. The prices were typical. The delivery and installation were prompt and on time. The installation process was the only weak part. The installers were capable but not overly friendly. It took a little urging to correct a couple of minor adjustments.

We decided to visit Sterling on Saturday based on reading Anglie's List reports. We had previously visited a few big box stores. Salesman Mark was very helpful but not overbearing in helping us sort through The New World of washers and dryers -- there has been a lot of change in the last 18 years! We looked closely at an Energy Star rated GE front loading high efficiency washer and matching dryer, with pedestals. Sterling had the Consumer Reports page which gave the washer a Best Buy designation. We looked at other makes and models. Mark also advised us they could obtain many other equipment options if we didn't see exactly what we wanted. Due to space constraints, Sterling can only display so many appliances. Mark also confirmed their staff install the appliances (no sub-contracting) which we liked. We didn't buy at that moment, choosing to think about it. On returning home, and after doing further online research, we decided to go for it. We called Mark and placed the order. He was able to offer Monday delivery. That was a little quick for us, so he offered Thursday as an alternate. Today was the day. Mark gave us a heads-up call, saying delivery should take place in about an hour. In less than an hour, Sean and Darryl appeared. They were very pleasant, worked well together, and seemed to know their stuff. Our townhouse entryways are tight, but that did not slow them down. No dings or nicks on walls or doorways. In approximately one hour, our new washer and dryer were installed and going through test runs. Sean and Darryl gave us a quick overview and passed on the paperwork. The old appliances were removed and loaded up on the truck. So far, we are very, very happy campers.

We had been without an oven for quite some time while trying one last time to repair the Dacor. Mark scheduled our installation within a few days. Sterling Appliances uses their own installers and their charge for delivery, installation, and removal was much less than that of a large chain that farms out installation. Unfortunately, the GE oven would not fit in the existing space under the Dacor cooktop. Rather than modify the space, given our experience with Dacor, we went back to Mark for a new cooktop. The one we wanted was back ordered which suggested a longer wait to get the oven installed. However, Mark searched for and found the model we wanted, scheduled the installation quickly, and cut the cost of the second install. We will definitely go to Sterling Appliances for future appliance needs.
Description of Work: We used Angies List to find Sterling Appliances for a new wall oven after we experienced multiple problems with our Dacor oven purchased at a different store seven years ago. Mark Vaughan was very helpful in discussing the features of the GE oven we were considering based on a Consumer's Report rating. We ultimately bought both the wall oven and a new cooktop.

We went there the day after the old refrigerator stopped working and they were able to schedule the delivery for the day after that. They were here when they said they would be, they took the old refrigerator, and replaced it with the new one. Overall, they did a great job.
