We purchased our washer from this company. We called them on a Thursday AM and they could not come out to look at the washer until the Tuesday of the next week, so we did not use them.

I found Sterling Appliance while researching microwaves and range hoods. After lots of comparison shopping, Sterling Appliance was cheapest hands down. For appliances, I was nervous about purchasing directly online, so I decided to go into the Sterling location. It is a relatively small store, but I already knew (or so I thought), exactly what I wanted. Two gentlemen were there when I went in on a Saturday morning. I told one of them what I was interested in purchasing. For the inline blower, he explained the pluses and minuses of purchasing a 1100 CFM blower in a very professional and easy to understand manner. After discussing the issues, I decided to purchase a 800 CFM blower - still larger than what he was recommending, but smaller than what I had intended to purchase. Both of them were super nice and clearly knowledgeable about appliances. If you are looking for appliances that they sell, I would highly recommend at least checking them out, especially considering their prices were cheaper than the big online appliance websites.

Overall experience was excellent. Price was competitive to others and lower than most. Installers arrived when they said they would and were very professional. As part of the installation of the new cook top, they even redid the downdraft venting, making it much more efficient and compact from what the house builders had originally done. There were a couple of bumps along the way but quickly fixed. The biggest issue was my measuring the space for the microwave incorrectly. They were able to work with me and get the install done after I had made arrangement to adjust the cabinets. What was by far the most impressive part of the experience however was our sales person - Deanna. She was on top of everything from the day we requested a quote over email. She was very responsive then and throughout the process. When I went in to do the paperwork, she had everything already done - including having the GE rebate forms printed and filled out! She was there every step of the way, guiding and helping make the experience great. When we ran into the cabinet issue she researched options to help come up with a solution, including sending materials to help us figure out what to do. In the past 20 years, she ranks as one of the most positive, responsive and competent sales persons that we have worked with.

We purchased the floor model of a GE French door. It has worked fine for the past year. Delivery/installation professionals were very courteous and efficient. The selection in their showroom was a bit limited but it's a small store; what they did have was a good mix of top of the line and budget-friendly makes, models. The staff at the store were very nice, helpful. I went to the store to make my selection, and it was delivered on schedule with no mess. Good vendor.

- Emails, phone calls, and bid all timely and businesslike from Chris, the owner; good communications. - Owner helped me select model: 3 models available and only $10 difference in each. - They were flexible for install date. - Very nice install team: They said and quot;30and quot; minutesand quot; to install and despite it being a very tight space for maneuvering, they got the new washing machine and its new hoses installed AND got the old machine out in 30 minutes. - Realize you are paying for good service and good products here and you are buying from a locally owned business, not a big box.

I purchased a washer and dryer from Sterling Appliance 2.5 years ago and purchased an extended service contract. The dryer has not worked correctly and has been serviced twice and is about to be serviced again. What I did know when I was purchasing the service contract was that another company fields the repair call then subs the service call to another company. I contacted Sterling Appliance to notify them about the issues I was having. All I was told was that new products have many circuit boards that break easily and that is why they recommend service contracts. The manager did not ask what product I had or what the problem was - only that I have a service contract and quot;I can take advantage of'and quot; Not a response form a company that wants your future business. This product may qualify under lemon law which I now need to investigate.

In my rental property, my oven had stopped working (the bake function didn't work anymore). Sterling Appliance came out on the specific day that I requested (it was a rental property so it had to be a specific day) with the part and had it fixed within 45 minutes. The technician was very friendly and helpful and even gave me some advice on buying future appliances.

The service was good and the price was in line with what I was expecting. They were very efficient and on time. I especially like that they are an independent company. They were worried at first that my units might not fight in my space, but they made it work. They cleaned up well and did not damage anything. Overall, I was pleased.

All went very well. Very professional and focused on the job at hand. Sterling Appliances is close to me and they did me a favor 10 years ago and I said at that point when my appliances were ready to be replaced, I would come back to them. And I did. They gave me a deal on all GE appliances I could not refuse. My other appliances were the original 20 year old GEs that were sold with the new condo. My experience from beginning to end was excellent. I would recommend this company without hesitation.

I originally bought a new microwave at Home Depot. When the installers arrived at my house, they found that the space I had for the installation was 1 inch too short for the microwave I had purchased, so they said could not install the oven. I returned it (and as of today, am still waiting for my payment to be refunded, a week later). The problem is that the area behind my stove is tiled so the OTR microwave had to fit exactly into the space I have. When I explained that to the salesperson at Home Depot when I returned there to buy a replacement oven, he said he had never heard of tile being installed behind a range before. Huh? After exhaustive internet research and consultation with friends to figure out how to get the right sized microwave, I knew I’d have to go to real professionals. I found Sterling Appliance here on Angie’s List, and they’re right down the road from where I live. When I walked into the store and told the salesman that I had to fit the oven into a very precise space, his first comment was “Oh, you must have tile behind your range.” Bingo, I knew I was in the right place. Not only was I able to buy a high quality GE microwave that was a and frac12; inch too big for my space (instead of the low quality Sharp oven which was the only make/model available in the exact size I needed), but Sterling also said they would do a custom-install, at no additional cost, using a shim to fit the oven into the space I had available for it. Double bingo. The installation crew showed up exactly on time. The oven they brought with them was damaged; the door was broken. Back to the warehouse for a new one, and a couple of hours later, I had the new microwave installed above my range. And for reference, what I found is that there is little variation from store to store on the price of the ovens themselves (yes, there’ some, but I found it to be a non-factor in deciding). What really varies from place to place are the installation costs. So for the benefit of other Angie's List aficionados, here’s what I found: Home Depot: $80 installation fee Lowes: $130 installation fee Sears: $180 installation fee And Sterling Appliance? $120 installation fee. Great deal, highly recommend this place!

To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I cannot believe how they continue to make ME feel as if I am somehow inconveniencing them, even though they have completely disrupted our lives, and have turned our home inside out. Our wood floors are ruined. Our downstairs basement is flooded. The carpet is damaged, the padding destroyed, the insulation in my walls has to be replaced, my basement ceiling needs to be replaced, and I pretty much need to move all of the contents in my home into a POD to get the floors refinished. And to add insult to injury the dishwasher does not work correctly. And nobody cares, except me. The best part is that they are charging me an additional $250 to replace my dishwasher with another model. I cannot believe it. I have never seen customer service so bad. I have called them repeatedly. Nobody has called to apologize. I have to keep calling. Other folks who have written reviews see Sterling Appliance as I do--they do not understand customer service, and I would not recommend anyone use them, else risk running into the nightmare that now defines my life at this point in time. I hope to report better news. But I cannot at this time. Deanna is a nice salesperson, but carries no weight to rectify nor provide me the level of service that you would think a small business who needs to compete with bigger stores would actual provide. I get the contractor price for the dishwasher. Awesome. Some deal. I have to spend weeks fixing my home, but Sterling Appliance gets to bill me for over $3,000 for their services. They also dented my kitchen island as they installed the range. But in wake of the bigger nightmare, that little chip is nothing to worry about. Look, nobody is perfect. Installers make mistakes. People are busy and are rushed to make their next install--I understand things can happen. But you cannot run your business with the attitude that you do not care about your customers. And that is the point here. I do business with companies on Angie's List because I believe that the company will stand by their product and workmanship, but this company could not care about me, my situation, nor the hassle that they created, and have still not rectified. Do yourself a favor, and stay away. You can find pricing that is just as competitive, and I can guarantee you that you can find a better customer service oriented business to buy your appliances. This is why Angie's List is so important and beneficial. Consider yourself warned.
Description of Work: If you are wondering why it cost $23k for a simple dishwasher and range, its because these folks failed to install the dishwasher properly and I now have a huge insurance claim/battle to renovate my home. Upon installation they neglected to tighten the hot-water hose to the dishwasher, and also left Styrofoam packing inside even though they said it was safe to run, which has now rendered the dishwasher as worthless, since it will not wash dishes properly. Our range emits a strange smell and we are fearful that its installation is wrong too.

I called Sterling Appliance because we had an awful, annoying buzz from our oven when in use. The tech Alan, came promptly, but ran into a complication when he couldn't remove the frame from around the microwave oven combo. After trying for some time, he tried to get the model number from inside the microwave, only to find most of the label had been removed. After making a few calls, he put in an order for what he thought would be the right part, and told me he would have to return with more help to remove the entire microwave/oven unit to get at the problem. I asked him about the dish in my Microwave, as it was the wrong type, and he just happened to have the proper one in his truck (left over from another job) which he switched out at no charge. He returned a couple of weeks later, and while the part he brought was not the right part, he figured out how to get the frame panel off and determined the ugly sound was caused by a gunned up screen over the fan. He removed the screen, and the problem was solved. Now we can use the oven and not have to put up with the annoying buzz, and the repair wasn't expensive as we feared it would be.

I want to share an experience I had last week with you that I will never forget. On Friday morning I went downstairs to open a 35-year-old (enormous) freezer to remove steaks for dinner. At a distance from the utility room I could see an ocean of what appeared to be blood from the crime scene of a mass murder. Instead it was drippings from 200 pounds of prime meat and chicken that had defrosted overnight when the seal on the freezer door gave out. The meat was still cold so I could cook it immediately but I would need a new freezer within a few hours unless the state of Delaware planned to come for dinner. I made a call to Sterling Appliance after a bit of research online. I have never made a purchase there so have no client history with the store. I explained my predicament to a very kind salesperson name Diana. She checked the warehouse and checked with her manager. Within five minutes I was offered exactly the freezer I needed at a very fair price. Best of all, her manager ,Chris Drews offered to go home, get his van, drive to the warehouse, pick up the freezer, bring it to my house, remove my old freezer and install the new one: by himself. This was not an easy job but everything was finished about two hours after I made the SOS call to Sterling Appliance. If anyone needs a new definition of personalized quality service, this is it. Sterling Appliance will have all of my business in the future.

I was the only customer at 11am on a weekday. I came to buy a dishwasher, had identified a couple of suitable models via internet research, and was prepared to spend at least $1,000. The person who appeared to be the owner, manager, or salesman, was engaged in a laid-back friendly conversation about the general state of the economy with a man who appeared to be a contractor or friend. I stood by the counter but was not recognized in any way for several minutes. I then moved to peruse the floor models in the rather uninspiring showroom, returned to the counter, and was still ignored. Finally, a person behind the counter who appeared to be clerical staff asked me if I was looking for sales. I stated quite plainly that I was there to buy a dishwasher and didn't really care if it was on sale or not. A minute later the salesman and his friend finished their conversation, and the salesman told me he had to take a phone call. Another few minutes passed. I gave up and went to another store where I successfully transacted my purchase in no time. I will soon be in the market for some additional large appliance, but I won't bother with Sterling Appliance.

Salesman gave great advice about dishwashers, actually sold a less expensive appliance than we budgeted for because he said the cheaper one was just as quiet. Dishwasher delivered and installed quickly, old one taken away with no fuss in spite of the tricky small space. Total cost about half what we expected, with excellent service. We'll go back again when we need them.

Sales person was ok, showed me the product, I came already decided and just needed to purchase so I was a very easy sale. I paid extra for professional installation in my newly renovated home because I did not want to take a risk causing any damage. The installer came on schedule, took out the old dishwasher, started to install the new one, I asked him to put protection under the DW to avoid damaging the new hardwood , he put a thin rag and started slding the DW scuffed the new hardwood with multiple indentation lines and then stopped, telling me that the manufacturer did not provide electric cable and he can't install it now, so I suggested that he takes the old cable from old washer and use them , then he tells me that the junction box is too large, won't fit behind the DW, so again I solved his problem suggested to put the box under the sink and run the cable through the side, after one more solution to fix his problems, left it crooked and has a loose gasket that fell off after couple of days. I called Sterling Appliance, complaining about that spoke to employees and every time had to explain the whole story over and over again, so they send me the same installer that made the damage, and guess what he creates more damage, puts two gouges and a scratch on my new dishwasher front panel, adjusted the DW using the door as a lever at that point he gave up and left saying some one will contact me about the damage, I called several times got the run around until the manager came back from vacation, supposedly they will order a replacement part that was weeks a go with no end in sight. I think this will end up a legal matter unless they resolve my problems.

I chose Sterling because it had a solid A rating and were a Super Service Award winner. Unfortunately, this was not my experience with this company. They arrived promptly for our appointment and were friendly and courteous. They diagnosed my 1-1/2 year old Whirlpool as having a bad motor and said I needed to either buy a new dishwasher or replace the motor. I was told they would call me the next day with an estimate for replacing the motor. The days passed and I called twice requesting the estimate. Each time, the man asked me the same questions, seemed to be writing everything down and told me they would get back to me. They never called. It's been two weeks and I've called for the third and final time. The man took all the information again (as if he had no recollection of this issue whatsoever) and seemed very annoyed. He said as soon as he hung up with me, he would get the estimate and call me right back. It's a good thing I didn't hold my breath. It has been my experience that appliance repair companies typically will credit the initial diagnostic charge when they perform the actual repair or replacement. Sterling said they would not. After waiting what I feel was an unacceptable amount of time for a call back, this had been the only reason I was waiting for them - so that I could apply my diagnostic fee to my repair. As a business owner myself, I would never make my customers feel that they are a bother to me and I always get back to them with an answer when I say I will. I would never use Sterling again nor would I recommend them to anyone.

The oven was out and I called the lady and talked on the phone and perfectly worked fine and I wasn't here, left the key and when I got to the house, it looks good and works fine. They were pretty good. When I called her to do the job, she wasn't there but called me back and we're good. They weren't the cheapest but they weren't out of line. The thing was that, they came and installed the oven without me being here.
