Snell Heating & Air Conditioning

Our Air Conditioner went out in July 2014. We called Snell because they had good ratings on Angies List (Deservedly so). Lloyd (The A/C service man) was very quick to pick up on what was going wrong. He had the part necessary to fix the problem in his van. He tested the A/C, the inflow and outflow. He checked out the blower, and checked incoming and outgoing air temperature with a thermometer. You can tell when someone is good at their job. Lloyd just happens to be excellent. He knew everything about my A/C system inside and out, and even gave me tips on how I could extend the life of my system. I will be calling Snell for all of my HVAC needs in the future.

Our upstairs ac and heating unit died on a summer weekend. When it couldn't be repaired, we got an estimate from another company and then called Snell for a second estimate. David Snell came out exactly at the appointment time, looked at everything, and provided us an estimate with a clear explanation of our options. The Snell technicians, Louis and Rafael, arrived right on time, were very polite and professional, and worked diligently all day on the replacement. They were clearly experienced and knew what they were doing. I was impressed that they covered their shoes with booties in the house and covered our stairs with a cloth to keep the carpet from getting dirty. They also put in a new thermostat and gave us one year of free maintenance checks. We are very pleased with the job they did and our house is very cool now.

I wasn't at home when they did the work, but they dealt with my son who was at home. They determined that my unit needed to be replaced, and they clearly explained to my son why it was necessary. In addition, my son stated that the technician was very nice and professional during their interactions. Ultimately, I had the unit replaced but with another company.

Technician came and did a yearly HVAC check on a system installed one year ago by Snell. Technician was very professional and did a wonderful job and was prompt.

The service went very well. They also did some additional work including adding free-on for an additional fee. I thought the additional fee was reasonable and the technician was very knowledgeable. Scheduling was not an issue. I am actually having them come back to replace the unit.

I don't have much good to say about this company, because they are not my company, and I wouldn't sign with them, because their prices were too high. I didn't know the company was selling, but because I was under contract and there were a few months remaining, I used them. I didn't sign with Snell because their prices were out of sight.

I originally called Snell to get a price estimate on their heat pumps. I had already had someone to the house that had provided some estimates on a Carrier brand heat pump and was shopping around for other estimates. They wouldn't provide an estimate by phone, but the woman was nice and scheduled me an appointment for the following evening. The salesman called to give me a heads up that he was on his way and arrived timely. It was evident from the start that he only was a salesman and that I was in for a long pitch. I sat through several long sales pitches from window salesman earlier this year and that was not how I wanted to spend my evening. The Snell representative was the third person who had stepped foot in my house to give me an estimate on the system and the first wanting to talk prior to actually seeing the system I had installed and its location. I went with it for awhile. He started off asking my my priorities in what I wanted in a heating and cooling system. I felt like I was being quizzed. It's really not rocket science. Some may want the cheapest system to get them by a year or so until they sell the house, but I thinkmost people would agree that they want a system that provides heat/cool air depending on the season, one that lasts and requires minimal repair, and one at a price they can afford. So we talked about that for awhile and then he went on to say how great the company was and how the most important factor in getting an hvac system is the installation. All of this may have been fine and true, but still we were 20 minutes in and he hadn't asked to see our unit set up. Instead of selling me on the company he was accomplishing the opposite as it was evident he was only a salesman. He didn't need to look at my unit because he was just there to sell me on the company's brand. I asked that all the fluff sales talk be skipped as I wanted to spend time with my children that evening and he didn't seem to appreciative of that. He pulled out a page from his binder with prices and basically said if all you want is price, here it is. I am not looking for just the cheapest offer, but I do want a fair price on a good system and this is why I had called a handful of companies. He priced a Lennox and a Trane product, but told me very little about the units. I think he could sense I wasn't too interested. I actually was very interested in learning more about Trane and Lennox, but the prices were much higher than the Carrier units so there didn't seem to be much point in wasting more time. He respected my wishes for him to leave and I appreciate that. Overall he seemed nice enough, but there really was no comparison between having someone come to your house that understands the units and having someone come out to give a sales pitch. This wasn't the right company for me.

We are very pleased with them. They always call to remind us, and they call us to schedule. We have been using them for 15 years. We have gone with other people just because they have had specials, but we always go back to Snell.

The technician arrived on time and was very professional. He quickly realized what was wrong with my heating system and made the necessary corrections. He also discovered a hidden closed damper that had been causing system failure warnings. The damper was behind the HVAC and was very hard to access. After opening the damper, I have not had a problem with the warnings or heating adn AC in a section of my house. Money well spent.

Replaced 22 year old condenser, evaporator coil, and line set. If allowed, will probably update in a year or two to see how it lasts.

Very professional, identified problem quickly. Will definitely call again for future needs.

when I was unable to schedule a Friday appointment with my normal HVAC service company (the one that installed the unit), I contacted a few places, and Snell was able to get someone out the next day (Friday). the service technician arrived on time and determined that the air handling unit inside the home was frozen and he was not able to work further on the issue that day. since I was going to be away the following Monday-Thursday and didn't want the AC unavailable for that time, I asked whether they could come back out over the weekend. they said that they were booked up but would try to fit me in if there were a cancellation. the technician was able to come back out on Sunday and inspect the system. he found that refrigerant was low and also that a service valve was partially open (which may have caused the leak). he closed the valve and added refrigerant. the technician was very professional, courteous, and prompt. overall, I had a very positive experience with Snell and will now consider using them for all of my future needs.

I had to postpone the service and they accepted the Big Deal coupon even after it expired. Scheduling was easy and they arrived when they were supposed to.

Everyone I spoke with at Snell was very courteous and professional. The quote was provided on Friday and original install date was for that Wednesday, which was pretty good being summer time. Snell had to re-schedule my appointment because the air handler delivered would not fit my space. However, they resolved the situation by providing me with a temporary unit and scheduled a Saturday installation. Most companies will have problems, nobody is perfect, but I really appreciate a company that resolves problems. Snell did a great job in finding a solution.

They said a major part was bad. I had another company come and they said nothing was wrong with the part. They were out to sell me on something that wasn’t true to get more money. I’m glad I got a second opinion

Justin the service technician was exceptional. He was polite, professional, and very fair in giving an evaluation of our existing AC system and answered all my questions fully. The repairs were done quickly and our old AC unit seems to still have a couple of good years left in it thanks to Snell. We will look to them when it comes time to replace the AC system.

The technician was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. He did an outstanding job and we invited Snell back to quote when it was time to replace the HVAC system.

OK, did work as expected but I feel there was a lot of preassure to buy extra services.

Our 24+ year old a/c did not provide any cool air when I tested it in early May 2014. I called Snell and they squeezed me in for a Saturday service call. The Snell tech was up front that the a/c unit had failed due to age and replacing the major component was not cost effective even if they could track down parts for such an old system. I had previously done research and knew that the very old heating unit would also need to be replaced in order to gain the most efficiency for a new HVAC system. I discussed this with the Snell tech and showed him my info regarding various Trane units. He explained the benefits of the various options and combinations based on the size of our house and installation requirements for top of the line heating unit. Unfortunately, the layout of our laundry room/adjoining den made it difficult to run the added venting lines necessary to install a 90% AFUE heating unit. I then chose the best 80% AFUE unit but the tech explained that a less expensive 80% model was a better choice and would be an good match for the Trane a/c unit I had already settled on. The Snell tech then showed me the cost for various combinations including the one we had already discussed. I knew that Trane had an excellent reputation (Consumer Reports) but would carry a higher price. The Snell price covered everything: disconnecting/removal of the old a/c and heating system; installing the new Trane heating and a/c units as well as the Lennox filter unit; installing a new digital touch screen programmable thermostat; all necessary wiring, piping, sheet metal work, necessary work permits, 2 years of spring/fall tune up visits, etc. I put down a deposit and the Snell tech indicated that his company had an arrangement with Wells Fargo bank that would allow us to spread out the balance of the cost with no interest/fees if we paid it all within 12 months. This was VERY helpful. You just have to make sure you pay it off within 12 months or a very high interest rate will apply. We had to wait 2 weeks for the actual installation. Snell had to order the components and fit us into their schedule as we had hit the beginning of the annual a/c service and replacement season. The installation team arrived at 9 A.M. and did not leave (except for short lunch break) until everything was completed at approximately 8 P.M. They answered my many questions as the installation proceeded during the day. They cleaned up everything. From start to finish everyone from Snell was professional, courteous and helpful. This includes the first tech's visit, the install team and a follow up tech's visit as well as all the office staff I dealt with. All my calls were returned promptly and my numerous questions were answered about the cost, the payments through Wells Fargo, a rebate from Trane, the inspection by airfax City, etc. The Fairfax City inspector gave the final approval without any problem. I am very satisfied with the service provided from Snell.

They worked quickly and cleanly too -- great guys over all. They also worked through financing options and made sure we were completely satisfied with every step of the process. I felt completely comfortable with our choice and their work, especially after everything we've been through with our prior HVAC systems.

I was quoted a price of $398 for the freon and 99 for diagnostic call totatling 498 and I gave them $40 off a repair I found on their website and 10 percent off for being angie's list, I tried to get the invoice since June 4 and spoke with Kim, office assistant. On June 10, Dave Snelling sent me an invoice for $536, correctly inaccurate and did not honor my $40 repair and 10 percent discount and had jacked up the price, which is totally unprofessional. They need to honor the quote I was given and honor the above coupons and have not heard back from Kim still to resolve this issue though I called the office today June 11 spoke to Kim, she said she would resolve this and call me back, has not done so yet. They are excellent at their work but they always overcharge on their work, I had used them two times so far, one time $850 charge another time for $795 to just put a simple pipe. They are hard to communicate to let you know what is going on but this time it is flat our wrong what Dave Snelling the owner charging me $536 and not $498 and then subtracting out the $40 for repair and 10 percent discount that I emailed them. I won't use them again, they seem to care only about money though they are good at their work. I will cancel my credit card shortly if I dont hear back from them soon.

Performed checks on my air conditioner and furnace. Once they were not able to keep the appointment they had set but we were not having any problems so we were fine with rescheduling. We received a call ahead of time though so we were not left waiting for them. The staff are just as capable as our former provider at half the cost.

Snell was and always has been very accommodating and very professional. They sent someone out to determine the problem and it was fixed under warranty within a week once the part came in.

Provider did service but would not clean unit and didn't change filter. AC now doesn't function and I need to call for repair.

They had excellent reviews but I don't feel like we received that service. They continually came back because they had these delays and this non-finished work. It was kind of a hassle.
