About us
PestNow brand was founded in Virginia in 1995 as Superior Pest Management when four high school friends came together to form their own company. Today, we have multiple locations in three states, and serve thousands of happy customers. We offer pest control; termite treatments and warranties; mosquito, flea & tick control; WDIs (real estate inspections); lawn fertilization & weed control; TAP insulation; and wildlife solutions for homeowners and businesses in the mid-Atlantic.
We called Superior because we found some dead bug carcasses in our bedroom and strange spots on our mattress. We had just moved into a brand-new house, so we were curious and wanted to have it checked out by a professional, even though we didn't have any bed bug bites or see any other evidence of bed bugs (checked the rest of the mattress and box springs). Superior sent out an inspector who looked at the dead bugs and spots on the mattress and stated that they were indeed dead bed bugs and the spots on the mattress were caused by bed bugs. He proceeded to inspect the bedroom for five more minutes and another bedroom where he didn't find anything. After being in our house for a total of 10-15 minutes, he recommended Superior's $585 bed bug treatment program, which was a series of three sprayings in the affected area which, in this case, he stated would only be the master bedroom. He said that we should bag up all of our belongings in the master bedroom and closet, and they would come back in spray. He then stated that we would need to stay out of the bedroom after the spraying for a few hours until the product was dry. My girlfriend and I panicked and immediately went out and bought $200 worth of giant zip-lock bags to bag everything up. The next morning, the sprayers came to the house and asked us to leave the house so they could spray it. The inspector had incorrectly informed us about the procedure - they spray the entire house and we needed to have bagged up all cloth items everywhere in the house, which we hadn't done since we were given the wrong information. Having both a dog and a cat, this was not a welcome surprise that we had to pack up and suddenly leave. When I mentioned what the inspector had told me about only spraying the one room to the sprayer, he said that it wasn't the first time that had happened. I showed the sprayer the affected areas and he stated that it didn't look like we had a problem, but he would spray anyway. My girlfriend and I were very upset at the situation, and still unsure as to whether or not we actually had a problem, given we still never had a bug bite. I decided to call the company, who, in turn, asked me to write an email to one of the higher-ups, Rusty. I explained the entire situation over email and asked for his help to determine whether or not we actually have a problem, as I did not really trust the expertise of the inspector that came out. Rusty sent out his bedbug expert to inspect my residence. The expert inspected and determined that he did not see any signs of an infestation. Rusty's response to the situation (admitting no wrongdoing), was to refund me $300 of the $585 charge, cancel the followup sprayings, and maintain the 90-day warranty on the service in case bugs really did exist and further treatment was necessary. In the end, I got them to refund $345, but I still feel as though the first inspector didn't have adequate experience to identify bedbugs or an infestation and, as a result, the company is to blame for inadequately training its inspectors and I should have received a full refund. If the first inspector was adequately trained, I believe we wouldn't have had the spraying and wouldn't have had to live through this nightmare. I would never do business with this company again and would not recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We used Superior for an initial inspection of our bedroom to see if we had bed bugs, we used their bed bug spraying service, and eventually we had their bed bug "expert" back to our home to give us a second opinion. The second opinion, after having already paid Superior $585 and spent over $200 on plastic bags to bag all of our possessions, was to tell us that there was no evidence of a bed bug infestation at our property. The services, from the initial inspection, until the "expert" inspection, occurred over a week period. My girlfriend and I consider this to be one of the most traumatic weeks of our lives.

I do not believe that the Rep from Superior was an expert in pest control, especially mice and squirrels. It seems that he is just a maintenance contract salesman going through the motions until he could get to the sale. I will say, though, that he checked everywhere that I asked, even going back up into the very hot attic a second time when requested. We ended up going with a different company.
Description of Work: Called Superior Pest & Lawn Management because we had been hearing what sounded like a mouse or squirrel in our walls. Rep arrived within the designated time window and went straight to the attic. He was quite young, so I asked if he'd recognize evidence of what had been in there. He said, "I hope so, that's my job." He found only evidence of mice having been there, but no live animals. He also found an old nest in a corner, but wasn't sure what it was and didn't want to touch it with bear hands. (I don't know why someone inspecting for critters wouldn't wear gloves!) When I asked questions about the habits of mice, he answered in a way that sounded like he was making it up, and saying what he thought I wanted/needed to hear. For example, I asked if mice would be active at 7pm as well as 5am. He replied something like, "Sure, they come and go any time of the night, just like people sometimes stay out partying really late." Aside from the attic, he only checked places where I pointed out that a previous Rep from another company had found something. At the end, we got to where it felt like he was aiming the whole time: The Service Contract. His "prescribed treatment" included a one-time residential pest control visit for $225, and a quarterly pest control contract for $85 a quarter. I was unclear as to whether there would be a second $225 charge for an initial treatment. No mention of squirrels. Subsequently another contractor determined that we had had mice in our attic, but not at the moment. But also that a squirrel was coming and going through the attic fan screen - which needed to be replaced with an impenetrable screen. We decided to use that guy.

Superior Pest performed a termite inspection for a property for which we were under contract (DC row house, built around the turn of the century). The termite inspection was scheduled for the same day/time as the general inspection, so admitedly, things were somewhat hectic. The termite inspector arrived on time, and went about his business, going through most of the house on his own. He was done after 15 or 20 minutes, and said at that time, he'd send the report over to our RE agent. Upon receiving the report the next day, we learned that the inspector hadn't been in the attic or the detached garage, so the report of "all clear" was somwhat misleading. As this is an old property, we were quite concerned about the condition of the garage, so Superior Pest had to send someone out a second time to inspect the garage. Lo and behold, there were signs of termite damage!! Because of this, we were able to negotiate a considerable amount with the price of the house; something we wouldn't have been able to substantiate had we gone with the original report. My recommendation for home buyers: make sure the inspector goes EVERYWHERE. Not doing so could prove costly.

Superior Pest and Lawn Management came to our rescue soon after my inquiry call. The exterminator came on time and was very professional. He informed us that the ant problem would most likely get worse before it got better. He was right about the problem getting worse so we called for a follow-up treatment. The follow-up treatment has appeared to do the trick!

Superior was great in every detail. Easy to make/change an appointment, the inspector (John Connor) was prompt, friendly, and very informative. We thought some holes in a fence post was caused by termites, but John inspected it along with some other areas of the house and told us we did not have termites. Easy and simple (unlike some other large companies which I won't name). We will definitely use them for other services in the future.

I'm not sure if the price is cheap or expensive. It seem reasonable for us not having use similar service before. The cost was $85 if we sign up for quarterly service. The technician showed up during the time specified and completed his work, spraying the solution, quickly. He gave us a quick explanation of what he did and what we can expect as a result of the treatment. We appreciated that. After the treatment, ants were pretty much gone so it worked!

We signed up for a year contract and you can cancel it if you don't like it. The treatment didn't work and the ants were back in the house within two weeks. The second guy that came out arrived earlier that he was supposed to. We had been sick and didn't want him before a certain time, but it was more convenient for him. He sprayed the outside and then rang our doorbell 20-30 minutes before he was supposed to. He didn't do much and left. He was awful and it still didn't work. They didn't do a real thorough check either time. We cancelled the service and they did apologize.

I called several companies. I had a list of questions for the companies because I was trying to educate myself as to treatment of termites. The company took the time to answer all of my questions. It had been years since my last inspection and treatment and I thought that I might have termites. I have been living in my house for 30+ years. At one time, before I moved in, the house had termites. Superior let me know that I did not have termites and that I did not need to treat for something that was not there. I also learned that some of the sytems availabe to find termites are not always reliable. I was not charged for this service. I appreciate the integrity of this company. If I need pest extermination in the future, Superior is on my list.
Description of Work: I wanted a termite inspection. I worked through Mr. Jeff Huber. Superior gives free inspections. Because I had no termites, I did not need extermination.

I was totally unimpressed with Superior, not only did they want to do excessive work at a high cost, but he tried to sell me other services at the same time that I did not need. He was very pushy.
Description of Work: The representative that came out was not a service provider. I would have had to schedule the work at a later date. I asked him to check my attic for squirrels. He said he didn't need to check, that he could guarantee I had squirrels in the attic. He proposed that one way doors be installed over both access points. Then he wanted to put traps in my attic and said they would come back and check them everyday for two weeks--not very convenient. He quoted me $585, when I said that was high, he came down to $485. I got a second opinion, and a serviceman came, immediately checked my attic and said there were no squirrels in there, just some signs that they'd been there in the past. He fixed the problem at that time with a much simpler solution, for $225, with a one year guarantee.

We felt like we were going to get a fair price for the work that needed to be done. After a few months, they set up the snap traps and we ended up catching one. I think we still have one. They were pretty responsive and punctual.

Went very well. The squirrels were quite persistent. However, Superior was equally as persistent and finally resolved the problem. Superior staff were very responsive, which was greatly appreciated since I had to call them on several occasions until the problem was finally resolved. They came out promptly, usually the next day. After a period of time to ensure the squirrels are gone, they will return one more time to seal the openings. Their work is under warranty for a period of 1 year.
Description of Work: Had squirrels in area over bay window that is not accessible from the attic. Superior installed one-way "doors" to let them out, but keep them from getting back in. Had to come out several times, since the persistent squirrels found another entry, which they handled in the same way. Appears to have been successful.

We have been using them for over a year now. They do o.k. Most of the time I don't even see them, they just leave a message on the door that they checked the house. If we have any problems in between visits they will come over and take care of it. We also have a plan with them for bees. They come when they say they will. They know what they are doing.

Superior's program for eliminating bedbugs consists of three consecutive sprayings over roughly a month period. These treatments had no effect on the bedbugs in our house. In the day or two immediately following all three sprayings, we found live bedbugs in our beds or bed frames. Our primary complaint is that Superior did not bring any particular expertise to bear on the problem. The entire house was sprayed, but the individuals doing the spraying did not appear to make an attempt to try to figure out where the bedbugs are actually located. We?ve had to get rid of our boxspring, which was clearly a nesting place, and our mattress (we are now sleeping on an air mattress), but we still have bedbugs in our room and don?t know where to look for them or how to get rid of them In short, we are out $670 dollars, and no better off than before Superior came. Superior did not respond to a letter of complaint.

I called on Tuesday afternoon they arrived on time early Wednesday morning. A very clean and polite technician, TJ, came arrived and listened to everything I had say. He was extremely patient and answered all my questions. I've never experienced a problem of more than a stay mouse or two so my current situation has me completely freaked out, I'm sure he thought I was a nut. Since I'm the only person that works in the office I have the luxury of having my dog (aka mouse hunter) with me all day. TJ showed appropriate concern for his health. Couldn't ask for more!
Description of Work: Mice had a News Years Party in my office and decided to stay! (I think my office was Time Square of the mouse world.) Superior did a complete inspection of my office looking for entry points for the mice invaders. Made a few recommendations on areas to close up and set bait stations.

As person without pets, I was quite surprised to discover we had fleas. I chose this company based on the angies list reports. They were able to come out the next day and treat. The person on the phone was very nice but did not take the time to explain the procedure to me. He told me that the technician would do all that. He could not even tell me what chemicals they would use. I was a little diappointed by that but needed immediate service. The technician came 20 minutes after my 2 hour window but he did call and tell me he was running late. The technician explained what chemicals he was using but stressed that this is a long term treatment and that I could come back in the house and still have some fleas. Chemical one was spread on fabrics - rugs, sofas chairs etc. Checmical two was sprayed around the baseboards. The warranty is 90 days and they will come back to retreat. He told me we had to stay out of the house for two hours. Since we have a baby and we are paranoid we did not come back for a day. Two days later or so I heard bird noises coming from the bathroom vent. Again, I called the company and they were able to get a technician out the next day. By then, the bird had left but they were able to install vent covers. The technician did not have the covers/drill on his truck so he had to come back on a third day. All in all I thought they were professional and seemed to know what they were talking about. However not having the tools on the truck sort of ignored me. I think I will keep their number around for other emergencies but I might try another company of another type of problem arises.
Description of Work: On Day 1 they came out to treat for fleas. Five days later they came back to remove a bird from a bathroom vent as well as cover all the outside vents with mesh.

It did not feel very thorough. He just kind of ran around the house with the hose. For the amount, he could have been a bit more thorough. I am not sure that I will use this company again; I want to see what else is out there. I probably might use them just because of the warranty.
Description of Work: Before I moved in, the previous owner had treated for termites. We saw termites in the interior of the home so they put down more posts and it seems to have worked. Then we also asked they do a complete exterior for ants.

We'd just purchased a home that per the inspection report had termites on the exterior but none on the inside so we wanted the termites taken care of ASAP. Also, the home had been vacant so other bugs were inside (crickets, spiders). We completed the home purchase on a Thursday and on Saturday morning Superior arrived as scheduled and got right to work. They were friendly, flexible and explained everything. They worked quickly and did a great job. They pointed out possible pest entry points and advised on how to seal those areas off. Our new home is now very comfortable with no pest problems.

I had a good experience with them.
Description of Work: They ended up spraying and trying to keep some bugs from the outside, from seeping into the basement when it rained. They come out 3 or 4 times a year.
