I had purchased a back up home Generator from Michael & Sons a few years ago. The battery charger in this generator went bad in the fall of 2010. (See my compliant against Michael & Sons on Angie's List.) I was surprised anything would go wrong on a new piece of equipment in such a short time given the unit only turns on once a week to check the system. I know stuff just happens so I paid to have it fixed. But the response time by Michael & Sos was 6 weeks and full of hassles - again see report. I did not want to deal with Michael & Sons ever again. I actually found NOVA Power Systems via Service Magic as there were no other listings on Angie's List for this type of work. After I submitted my request for help I got a call from Chris in 5 minutes. He was out the next day! He explained his initial service call fee for one hour, but told me if he could not fix it there would be no charge. He sorted through the electrical diagrams and found the battery charger was dead or dying. He tried to order the part but the company only sold parts through Michael & Sons or CDS. He referred me to CDS and not charge me one cent. But to get to this point in time he had spent I am not sure how many hours sorting out the problem. He could not do the work only because he could not get the part. I insisted on paying him any way and he picked up the ball again and made the appointment with CDS for me. He even made sure he was there when they took care of the problem. But even better, he found out that this battery charger was in fact covered by warranty. Michael & Sons told me it was not and charged me. While I am stuck with having to pay for a new battery, I also now know that I have the correct battery installed. Michael & Sons installed a cheap battery in the first place to save money. This is why the battery charger died - twice. If the system had been installed correctly I would have never had this problem. Because they followed though on the work we agreed I would pay them. They only billed me for the original $150 service call but I sent them a check for $250. Their response time was so fast, their effort over a number of days to truly sort out the problem was so complete, their going the extra mile to find CDS (that could do the job) and being there to be sure all went well with the final fix, shows an incredible amount of professionalism. Chris was prepared to walk away with nothing to keep to his word. He even found out why I was having the problem and how I had been ripped off by Michael & Sons. I too have a service business and try to go the extra mile when I know clients have been hassled and ripped off. But I can tell you his level of integrity and honesty is rare. And it needs to be reported more often. In the end, what most of us really want is simply honesty and integrity in those we do business with. And I do not mean the sale job that often comes up front, but the follow through to the end of the job. Chris is a great guy. Very friendly and easy to work with. And he did not say anything bad about Michael & Sons ever. In fact, Michael and Sons talked to him when he tried to order the part thru them but they would not sell it to him unless he gave up my name. He refused to do that given the fact that he knew tI had had he problems with them. He did not need to do that but it shows he is a stand up guy.I will keep his card in our file of best people to go to for any future electrical work I may need. I really can not say enough about this company. If every service company behaved Chris and his company he would never need an Angie's List!
