My Guys Moving & Storage

With reference from the Ashby Ponds - Erickson Living Community in Ashburn, VA, I interviewed three moving vendors. Selected "My Guys Moving and Storage for my purposes. They came as scheduled to provide the quotes, details as to the interim storage in Sterling, VA for two months and final move to Ashby Ponds apartment. They were competitive, reasonable, punctual, professional, accommodating, and friendly. I will recommend them to anyone interested.

They were amazing. They got to the apartment a little bit early which was fine. They were very professional and they made sure that they took care of our belongings. They were impressive in how efficient they were. It took 6 hours total. We have used them before and we will definitely use them again.

Our realtor recommended MGM. They came out, gave an estimate, and while much more than we expected for what they were moving (6 rooms of emptied out furniture, some gym equipment, and about 15 boxes of books--I moved all the rest in the 6 weeks leading up to their visit) it was worth it in the end. They were early (I've been dealing with contractors lately and this is a FIRST, most are half a day or more late). Kudos! We weren't ready for them yet, but they were patient: they covered the walls and floors, and began moving stuff out of the rooms we weren't occupying. Within 2 hours they had everything loaded up and 3 hours later everything was in the house (in its place) and furniture all reassembled by them. It was one of the easiest ways to move and without any damage. I've moved before by myself and friends (college, grad school days). I've hired movers to load and unload a UHaul that I drove. And I've had full service moving, both local and cross-country. Our last move the movers took 3 days to pack and load, and in the end, they damaged the house and the furniture and took 8 weeks getting our stuff to us in our new location. While MGM moved us locally, it was the best moving experience I've had. I highly recommend them! I'm giving them a B for price because the hourly rate is high--albeit, competitive in this market. But I've made a cross country move myself for what this local move cost me with MGM. But now my time is worth more to me than their estimate and my hassle, so I'd hire them again in a heart beat!

Went excellent. Our stuff was in storage for 1 month after a previous move out (also by My Guys). They showed up on time, did an excellent job of quickly unloading and taking away of boxes which were now empty. I lost my wedding ring unpacking boxes, and when I called the emergency number as it was a weekend, I got a quick call back, and the person went to the warehouse, and went through all the packing materials and boxes and found then personally delivered my ring. Everyone was very professional.

Overall outstanding job. They showed up on time with two trucks and five men. They wanted to be sure to get our goods on the trucks and into the condo within the scheduled time window to use the elevator. They were very careful with furniture and shrink-wrapped each piece. They also took great care in reassembling furniture. However, they did not do as well in protecting artwork - maybe because we were only moving a few miles to the condo. Even so, the result was no damage! The first time in thirteen moves that we can say that. Their estimate was very fair and the final bill was for even less. We highly recommend them and will certainly call them if the need arrises in the future.

My Guys performed a local move for us and did an excellent job. The crew was courteous and hard working. We were concerned that the crew might not be motivated to get done quickly (since the job is 'by the hour') BUT the crew they sent out worked from start to finish; they hustled all day long. We were very pleased with the service they provided. I would definitely recommend them.

They were excellent. No scratches, and they set everything up in the new apartment. They were on time and two men completed the job quickly. We really appreciated them moving the old furniture out of the apartment up to the curb for trash pickup.

The moving went well. The guys arrived earlier for the job, after we talked to their supervisor, they waited outside till the agreed upon starting time. The movers were very professional, they helped us packed a few stuff, dissembled our beds and a few pieces of furniture. We don't have many furniture to start with anyway. They finished the moving and reassembled the furniture in about 4 hours, faster than I expected. will use them again

(To be fair, the sales rep Terry Williams, did go out of his way to resolve the situation outlined below and do recommend him highly. Unfortunately, he works for My Guys Moving.) We used My Guys Moving two years ago and had a great experience. We so liked the service, that we did not get another quote when moving into our new house in April. BIG MISTAKE. We thought the quote to be on the high side, but given the great job they did the first time, we didn't mind. The move seemed to be going all right, until we started surveying things during and after the move. We were advised by the salesman, Terry Williams, to label all the boxes clearly, so the workers would know where to place the boxes. Great in theory, but since so few of the workers spoke English, the boxes ended up all over the house. We caught what was going on during the move and had a lot of the boxes moved to their proper location, but this added at least an hour to the move. I don't mind paying for things once, I do mind paying for them twice! We are still finding misplaced boxes. This is not what I thought I was paying for. This was not a cheap $500 move, but a house to house move that took two trucks, and six movers. The workers ended up moving things that shouldn?t have been moved (despite them expressly being told not to move items) and didn?t move items that should have been moved, such as my wife?s computer monitor. The workers also took a 40 minute lunch that we were billed for, despite there being no provision for us to pay for this. We spoke to the ?Customer Service Rep? - Dee, who promised a quick resolution, but in the end, said ?there was nothing he could do?. He said he spoke to CEO Pat Burkes who concurred. It?s not the waste of money that has me so perturbed about this company, it is the fact that they treat repeat customers so poorly. I will never do business with this company again and will never refer them. What a shame, they have no idea how much business they lost. Martin

Great! They were done in 5 hours. 4 great guys who were careful with our belongings and they did everything we asked of them. They even had to make 2 trips.

They are very professional. They came on time. They worked efficiently. We got to the storage unit and they knew what to do better than we did (gates opening and such). When they moved our son to our home from his apartment in Maryland, again they were on time, professional and there were absolutely no problems. All items arrived and were moved safely. Great company. I would use them again.

They were amazing!. Timely, fast, professional, and helpful.When it looked like we might have to rent another storage unit, they moved the stuff around so well we actually had ample space left. Talk about going above and beyond! We're using then again for our final move in to our new home.

They had a little more price than I thought would turn out to be, but other than that they were on time and they did a fine job. They're prompt.

Upfront, the customer service was great. Very responsive and they were able to accommodate a Sunday move. The quote I received was much too low compared to what we ended up paying and a coupon we were given for referring them to another customer was not valid because we were moving interstate even though it showed as a credit on my quote. When a piece of my furniture was broken, I had to call them FOUR times over the next 6 weeks to locate it. They repaired my chair and returned it to me. It looked like a five year old glued it together. They were very difficult to get a hold of and it took three phone calls to get a receipt. I will not use this service again when we move to our permanent home in the fall.

I called My Guys moving to ask for a quote and the customer service representative was so rude, gave me the run around and then gave me that I couldn't fathom hiring them for their service. Perhaps I should have asked for a manager to get that employee reprimanded, but I was so upset from the call I just wanted to get off the line. Will never work with them again.

It seems from all the positive reviews that it depends on what crew you get. We got a three-man crew that wasn't stellar. One guy in particular seemed to be just hanging around rather than moving things. The place we moved out of was quite small, so not too many things, and it looked like these guys were being just a little bit slower than necessary to get all the stuff out. It seemed like there was no way they would load the truck in an efficient manner and leave, because that would mean fewer hours. Then they couldn't get one piece from upstairs and had to take it apart. That took forever, and for some reason all three of them were focusing on that rather than having someone actually move things out. In my opinion, the whole move took an hour longer than it could have. At another point they were all inside of the truck eating lunch. I understand that they need to eat, etc, but all that costs the client money, so they could perhaps be a more efficient way for them to do this? The most annoying thing was that the crew manager tried to bill me for an extra 15 minutes at the end of the shift. The clock said exactly 2pm when they finished and he sent me downstairs "to check the truck". When I came back and he showed me the bill, it had an extra 15 minutes attached to the bill, which, fortunately, I noticed. But seems like one can't be too careful!

They had told us up front in the beginning, that there would be boxes to lend to us & we could keep as long as we want. I called every few days for 2 weeks (including the day before) up until our move; but there never were any. They explained, "this is the slow season." So we never had loaner boxes. We had to scramble about 4 days ahead of time and buy a lot of boxes. I suggest using Freecycle or Craig's List if you know you're moving & get boxes. I should have done that but didn't think about it soon enough ahead of time, then couldn't use those resources. They packed up our whole kitchen, and 90% of our basement including our utility room. Crazy! The guys were professional. A few are friendly. They are hard working. I have rarely seen people work that hard. WOW. I was very impressed with their work ethic. They only took a (too short if you ask me) 30 minute lunch then were back to work. It was a LONG day for them and they did it! Unfortunately, they piled boxes on our new closet rod / shelf, and hung clothes from below it. The rod / shelf wasn't installed correctly in the first place (my husband figured this out later), (it wasn't anyone's fault who was there), and the entire thing collapsed. Because no one expected this to happen, they have indefinitely loaned us wardrobe boxes until we can get it fixed. (It's going to be a while.) Now that we are unpacking and it's nearly a week later, I have found lots and lots of boxes in the wrong rooms. But I am still very happy and grateful they did this hard work and did it cheerfully and professionally. I would absolutely hire this company again without hesitation.

"The Guys", as they call themselves, arrived about 30 minutes earlier than anticipated on the day of the move, having already called and confirmed that that was OK. They took all the boxes we had already packed, checked them and re-taped quite a few for safety, and packed them on their 26-foot truck. They disassembled two beds and a dining room table, and wrapped all our furniture in pads and in some cases plastic (e.g., couches), and loaded them all on the truck. At the new house, they unloaded everything and carried it up a 130 foot walkway from the driveway, and carried most of it up one steep staircase. They re-assembled the beds and tables, and positioned everything just as we wanted it. Everything was handled exactly as we wanted, and they finished the job right on the predicted time. The only hiccup was that the driver missed an important turn on the way to the new house, and showed up about 30 minutes late. And they took that time out of the bill, without our needing to ask.

They did a great job. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I have moved many times in the past and they are by far the best we have used.

The workers arrived promptly during the time period I was told. They were curteous and professional. The move took just the amount of time estimated.Throughout the day the gentlemen worked steadily and seemed to enjoy themselves, talking and laughing as they worked. There did not appear to be any lag time (taking breaks, etc). Although there was a minor hiccup at the new location we were able to work around it and they willingly did so. I would definitely use their services again.

I was pleased. I used them several years ago when they were under a different name. They did it quickly and efficiently. I had one minor problem which was resolved quickly after a phone call. I would use them again.
