We were having an issue with water collecting in one area on the concrete deck surrounding our pool. The drain was clogged with dirt, but even had it been clear the water didn't have anywhere to go. We had another issue of dirt spilling over onto part of the deck whenever it rained. We spoke with another landscaping company that suggested putting in a french drain, but we weren't really satisfied with that approach. Meridian came out, quickly assessed the situation, and came up with a workable and aesthetically pleasing solution. I was so impressed with them that I ended up hiring them for additional work as part of the same job. After I signed the contract and paid the deposit, I didn't hear anything from them and had to call the to find out if they had received my deposit and whether we had been added to the schedule. The Friday before they were scheduled to arrive on Monday, I reached out again to verify that they were still coming, as planned, given that my husband had taken off work to be here, only to find out that they were behind schedule and weren't planning to come out until the next day. After explaining that my husband couldn't change his schedule at this point, they did arrange to come out on Monday, as agreed. At this point I wondered if I had made the right decision by hiring them. That said, once they arrived and began the work, I found out that my initial impression had been correct. They were professional, hard working, and obviously cared about the quality of their work. Since completion, any questions I have had had been answered quickly. They even stopped by to take a look at the work in order to respond to one of my inquiries. While additional work wasn't required, I have no doubt that they would have resolved any issue to our satisfaction, if needed. Meridian did an excellent job, and we wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for future work.
Description of Work: Meridian performed several different jobs for us. The first, and most important, related to a drain in our concrete deck by the pool. They removed the old drain, cut the concrete to widen it, and installed a new drain with grate. They also buried a pipe from one end of the drain to another part of the yard to ensure the water had someplace to go. Second, they built a small rock wall along one edge of the deck where we'd been having issues with dirt spilling over onto the deck when it rained. Third, they installed large stepping stones from each of the gates back to the pool. Fourth, they installed a French drain in another area with erosion issues. Finally, they removed my attempt at a path around the pool equipment and added a solid, more permanent path using various shaped medium sized stepping stones and small pebbles.
The men worked hard and efficiently all day long. The estimator, John, showed up to check on progress a couple of times during the day. The finished product was very pleasing to me!
Description of Work: Meridian installed a very attractive flagstone walk of irregular stone shapes connecting the sidewalk in front of our townhouse (end unit) with an existing patio at the side of the house. They also, weeded around all three sides of the house and conditioned the soil with the addition of several cubic yards of compost. They had several workers assigned to the job, more coming later in the day to ensure completion in one day. They cleaned up and carted away all the refuse. No landscape specimens were damaged.

I need a more concrete bid for the services and work to be done.
Description of Work: We wanted an estimate for a paver patio and Trex stairs leading down to it. Meridian must be a very busy office because I had to call twice to get an appointment. Nancy from the office apologized for the great delay and said they were updating their phones. The owner came out to look over my yard and we discussed my request and budget. He asked me why I wanted pavers instead of flagstone since in his opinion, pavers look cheap. He assured me that he could do flagstone for the same price as pavers. However, he did not have time until the next week to come out and measure the yard or talk specifics for an estimate. This is where my red flag went up. I wanted a more concrete estimate of the cost, not just that he could work within my budget. He was a good guy and seemed to have a real passion for his business. Their website had lots of beautiful projects. However, after having previously gotten bids for flagstone, which were way over my budget to now be told that Meridian could do it, left me a little skeptical. Then when he didn't have time to complete a bid or even check dimensions to prepare a bid, I just didn't feel comfortable. I needed a more structured business relationship. Perhaps if we had requested an estimate during a less busy time of the year, a more responsive and complete estimate would be done in an acceptable time frame. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Excellent job. Very diligent and skilled workers. They left out no details, including re-seeding the lawn where they damaged the lawn with so many wheel-barrow trips. Rain was in the forecast the day they finished and they put a tarp over the new soil/compost /seed so it wouldn't all wash down the hill. They removed the tarp early the following morning after the rain had ended. I knew in my mind sort of what I wanted the patio to look like, but I didn't know how to get there. Matt provided excellent ideas and design solutions and he and his team gave me a beautiful patio. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. On top of that, they cleaned up everything, including my lawn. That wasn't even in the contract. It was a very pleasant surprise.
Description of Work: Installed new stone patio in stonedust. Removed old concrete patio and excavated entire area. Patio laid on mechanically compacted, aggregate sub-base and stones set in stonedust. After finishing the patio, they re-seeded damaged lawn with compro and peat moss. Prepared lawn area around the patio in case I want landscaping or more grass. Cleaned up after themselves completely. Cleaned even beyond their own mess.

The entire project went smoothly. There were no suprises. The landscape designer, Susan, is creative, knowledgable and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Matt Kucik, owner, and his team did a great job of constructing a new slate walkway, natural stone retaining wall and new landscaping for the front yard. I would recommend them for any of these services. Matt is very professional and the references I called all gave glowing reports.

The patio looks fantastic. I was at home while the work was being done and very quickly trusted the crew that was on site. Total time at my house - three full days. The main guy - Kelvin (not Calvin as in other posts) - he is meticulous in his work. The sub base is deep and was compacted for very long periods of time in multiple stages. Kelvin went to great lengths to ensure perfect flatness of the patio surface. He was flexible when there were tiny details that had to be figured out on the spot. Regarding design - I had done the patio design in advance of the work, gave it to them, and they followed it perfectly. Looks just like the design I gave them. There was a lot of email exchange between me and Matt and Jon and they were always responsive. Regarding the "B" for price, I might have been able to do better on the price but I don't think the quality of work would have been the same. I am very happy - no regrets. Tips: If you want to see what the patio materials look like when installed - I didn't trust catalogs (samples never matched the pictures - different richness of colors, etc). I went to "Stone Center" in Manassas which is where Meridian currently gets materials. This place has many variations of pavers laid down in 10'x10' areas so I was able to quickly select paver brand, style, color, and layout pattern. Also - expect "efflorescence" after the pavers are down. With concrete pavers, it is unavoidable and temporary. Supposedly in 3-6 months depending on rain, it will be done leaching its salts (or whatever it is) and I will seal the patio to keep the rich colors (which are now smeared with white chalky looking stuff).
Description of Work: Had a paver patio installed in the back yard. Crushed stone/ sand subbase (no concrete). Also had a "pad" outside my sliding door installed. Consisted of the pad and one step between the pad and the patio level. Top of pad was about 4'x8' with rounded bullnose steps. All materials were EP Henry. Patio paver style is Conventry I. Pattern was Random with Slivers.
Met with Matt and Kevin and discussed our plans and what the outcome should be. Plan development took about a week along with reviews of the drawing sand plants selected. Once the work was started it took roughly 4 days, including one rain day. The final walk through and punch list was conducted approximately 4 days after primary completion and the work was finalized within one week after the original work was completed. I can hardly recommend this firm to anyone considering any size project they may need. The cost was reasonable, the work was performed in a professional manner and once the work began it proceeded in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Regrading the back yard area, install new planting and replant old plants to new areas. Install new drainage systems from existing down spouts that feeds to the rear of the lot and new dry riverbed section.. Put in gravel and stone walkway on north side of house and new planting area to the rear fence gate. Put down new sod in reworked areas. The size of the original area was approximately 8000 SqFt. Roughly 120 plants were installed or replanted to the area.

From start to finish this company exceeded all of our expectations.
Description of Work: Meridian installed stone walkways around the house and re-graveled the drive/parking area. The quality of the workmanship and materials was outstanding. They even went one step further by reseeding the lawn in places where they did not work. Everyone of the crew was courteous, considerate and professional. We would recommend this company to anyone and would call them for all future landscaping work at our house.

I have to tell you that I don't typically like to write negative reviews -- but this company gave me no choice. I called them and spoke with a gentleman who seemed nice enough -- he told me someone else would call. They indeed did and setup an appointment. I took off to meet him and he didn't show. He called me to reschedule for a Sat. He showed up, seemed nice enough and I would have still done business with them. He told me I would have a proposal by Monday. A week later -- nothing. It's infuriating to have people waste my time. If you're counting on timely service -- this company is not the right one for you. Update -- April 2011. I heard from the owner after I had initially given them the bad grade here on Angie's List. He was very nice and came out and did finally give me a quote. I've been assured that they fixed the problem (but never told what that actually meant). I chose not to use them. I'm not sure I could recommend to anyone whether they should use them or not -- but my experience initially was just terrible. Based on hearing from the owner, I changed their responsiveness score to fair and professionalism to fair

Meridian Landscaping fixed the leak. We haven't had any problems since. The grass they planted didn't grow very well. I would not recommend them for small jobs because they have a minimum amount they charge. One thing that kind of irritated me was that they asked me for a level to make sure that the tubing was sloped so this problem wouldn't happen again. I just thought it a little weird that they didn't bring a level themselves. It was no big deal, just figured they would've brought one for a project like this.
Description of Work: Meridian Landscaping installed tubing to take the water from our gutters and then they piped it away from the house. They also planted some grass and soil to help with the leak.

Initially, I contacted Meridien about a job to repair a retaining wall. They contacted my neighbor and scheduled an appointment during the afternoon. I took vacation to also meet, but went back to work after waiting 90 minutes and my neighbor was available the rest of the day, but they never showed up or called. 10/16/2010 update: John from Meridian contacted my neighbor and me a few days later. He unfortunately could not make the appointment nor contact us due to an emergency. He scheduled a follow on appointment, examined the retaining wall, discussed options and told us he would follow up with a written estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable and very professional. That said, Meridian should probably look into its scheduling processes. 12/1/2010 update: Neighbor and I delaying project until Spring. Meridien reps seems knowledgeable, so disregard this review.

We requested an estimate for a new front step and walkway. Our existing front step had a steep slope and high rise. We were pleased with the design provided by Meridian and their cost estimate (relative to two other companies). We selected Meridian and they were able to begin work soon afterwards. Meridian quickly and efficiently demolished and removed our existing cement porch and walkway. They then replaced it with a beautiful flagstone front step/porch and walkway. They finished on time and on budget. They were very polite and professional.

Working with Meridian was great. My deck and fence contractors took their sweet time finishing the project, so I had to push my landscaping project back weeks at a time. Luckily, Matt and Jon were totally flexible and were able to start as soon as I was ready. I was even able to meet Jon at the rock quarry to pick out the rocks I wanted for the path. The crew showed up on time, worked hard, and did a nice job with the hardscaping. My needs changed mid-project and Meridan were able to work with me and smoothly integrate the changes and updates. All in all, it went quite well.

What a bargain. The crew worked hard for two straight days. When they were done, all the landscaping was weeded and cleaned up, with fresh mulch and well defined edges. The two areas were graded properly, and underground drainage pipes were installed. It really was a total transformation. I would definitely use this company again!
Description of Work: We bought a foreclosed house and the 1/3 acre lot was a mess - there was great landscaping but it was overgrown and there were dead bushes/foliage/weeds everywhere. In addition, two of the landscaped areas around our house needed to be regraded so that water would flow away from the house, and two gutter drainage spouts had to be extended underground away from the house.

The crew was curteous and very neat. They covered the section of the driveway that is adjacent to the walkway thus protecting our new asphalt. They even finished raking leaves for me and hauled the leaves away! That was a very pleasant surprise! Weather made the start of the project a bit challenging but Meridian was super about keeping me informed of the schedule, either by email or phone. Our new walkway matches our old brick stoop and Meridian created a beautiful new pathway to our door!

The quality of the work, including the patio design, was outstanding. They started the project when they said they would and finished as scheduled. The workers, lead by a gentleman named Calvin, were terrific. They were the the most professional crew that we've had at our house and their skill level was top notch. Matt Kucik, the company owner, was there every step of the way with great ideas and a willingness to help with our thoughts and desires for the project. Kudos to Matt and his employees and his company.
Description of Work: Constructed a paver patio with a stone seating wall and stone retaining. The project required removal of about 250 square feet of dirt and insatllation of a sand base and paver surface and well as a stone retaing wall. Also, a stone seating wall was built, being about 15 feet long in an arc shape around a portion of a circular portion of the paver patio.

Matt was very responsive to my requests from the beginning. He gave me a quote within a few hours of visiting the house and worked with me on a start date. Rain delayed the start date a bit, but the when the work got started his crew were tremendously polite, even being careful to follow parking rules in our townhouse complex. The work took a little longer than expected, so it was finished while I was out of town. However, it was beautifully done and wonderful quality. Matt and his crew added a few artistic touches to both my front and back yard (such as a stepping stone to get off the patio area and two stones near the front walkway to help keep back yard erosion). I am very happy with the results!

We have an existing deck that I did not feel like putting vinyl lattice on myself. So I checked Angies List and found some good reviews for Meridian Landscaping and others. Meridian came in, price wise, around the middle of the quotes I received from all the companies I had out. The reviews in Angies List and Kevin's professionalism is why I picked them. The overall work on the lattice was pretty good. I did have to go out and ask them to 'add this' or 'fix this' a few times, but they crew fixed the issues as requested. I can honestly say, I could have probably done just as good of a job as Meridian did. After completion, I didn't find anything that made the work 'stand out'. But it sure looks a heck of a lot better than it did w/ my rotting/breaking wood lattice. Would I recommend them for lattice work? Probably not. They might do a better of job of actual landscaping.

Fantastic. I enjoy the beauty of my front walkway every day. I have received many compliments on it. It pays for itself in adding curb appeal to the house.
Description of Work: Meridian replaced a walkway and stairs going up the hill in my front yard. He used genuine stones on top and poured cement foundation. One of the owners, Matt, came over for several pre-install meetings, to check progress and completion. This was a two-man, four-day job. A dumpster of concrete had to be hauled away, which was labor, equipment, and dumping fee (he included it in quote, two other contractors had not!) His workers did not speak English but had received explicit directions from Matt. They were efficient and their work was PERFECT! They were artists in stone!

The employees were all very friendly. They were all very clean and tidy. They got it done in a very timely fashion. They actually got it done a day earlier than they expected. With the extra time they went ahead and fixed the slate that was laid before we lived in the house. They did that for free.
Description of Work: We had water underneath our wood floor that made the floor bow. We had a negative slope by the house that was causing water to flow downward. They came and flattened out the dirt.
