The plumber (Tommy M.) did an outstanding job in replacing our 30-year old toilets. We were originally interested only in replacing some of the old parts and keeping our old toilets. But with Tommy's thorough explanation of what was wrong with out toilets and the advantages of new ones, we decided to replace all 3 of them. He then quickly and skillfully installed the new ones and cleaned up so well when he finished that I think our bathrooms were actually cleaner when he left than when he arrived. We are extremely pleased with our new toilets and the work provided. My husband and I both though Tommy was the best service provider we have ever had working in our house. We will definitely use John Nugent & Sons for any future services covered by their company.

My wife's friend is a HVAC expert in the NC area, and he advised that installation was what was important since all companies use the same components and to choose your installer by how long they stand behind their install (i.e. labor warranty), and two companies set themselves apart one of which was Nugent. One of the keys to my decision was RJ, the salesperson. He worked with me through all the steps and allowed me options to handle my concerns and even after the installation. I never felt like they needed to upsell (they even recommended that I did not need annual service for years as long as I change the filter regularly myself) and so I went with the most basic system since that is all my townhome needed. They were even willing to come back later to install the thermostat that I wanted from Amazon, which was not available at my install date, and take back the one they installed. In the end, I stuck with their recommended thermostat since it would have their warranty on it. So while I spend a couple hundred more than the lowest quote that I got, I think the peace of mind that Nugent provides is well worth the extra couple hundred of dollars. I rarely feel good about spending more but Nugent was well worth it and RJ was a stand up guy, As for the actual installation, the install team took the time to do it right. While everyone said they could do it in 1 day, Nugent did not rush the installation and took the extra time on the next day to ensure it was done right while making sure that I had heat while they finished things up the next day. As a professional company, they cleaned up, provided a good explanation, always asked when they needed to do something in the house, wore booties when entering the house, and did the job right. Their technicians are a class act all around. Also RJ, showed up on the install date to make sure all was good (no other company even indicated that they would do that). Liked that full class service for an economy fare. What not to like.

Each trade has a dispatcher that only attends to their trade. I call this stove piped. They do not talk to each other. My work started with a simple HVAC checkup. After the checkup I signed up for a years’ worth of routine maintenance for all three trades. I also signed up for a new water heater that plumbing would do with the service call to be part of the routine maintenance. Nobody called me to schedule this. When I called them the dispatcher set a date. When the plumber called me, he told me that there would be a fee for him to come out. I told him it was supposed to be free. That got me to another supervisory dispatcher who found my paperwork and called out another plumber on the same day. All ended up good. I had also, through the HVAC technician, requested that he install a humidifier. I was told that I should have an electrician come out and plan for a 220v feed. I had to, again, call dispatchers for the electrician to do the estimate. About a day later the HVAC dispatcher asked me for a date for the humidifier install. I told her that we needed her electrician to install the 220V feed first. The electrical dispatcher has never called me. Now think about this, I'm willing to pay for expensive work, happy with the technicians, and the company dispatchers are sitting on work for a customer for over three months. This frustrates me, and the company is interrupting revenue during a slow winter session. Costs: Humidifier $1795 + $900 install Water Heater $3551 Electrical $1873. Absolutely FANTASTIC!! We've had troublesome systems and one we knew needed replacing. Not only did they do a great job replacing that system at a great price, they diagnosed the other troublesome systems and we finally have a direction in which to move with those. We have air exchangers, UV sterilizing systems and humidifiers and these folk understand it all! Highly trustworthy, lovely to work with and extremely capable. They've earned a lifetime customer!

First trip out, technician couldn't find a problem. I had turned the furnace off since it wasn't heating and when the technician turned it on, it worked (wouldn't you know). We discussed what exactly was going on from my point of view and all that I had done to try to get it to work. Technician charged me for diagnostic visit ($95) but didn't want to charge me for further work since he could not diagnose the problem. Told me to call them back if I had further problems; they would not charge me for another diagnostic visit. The furnace worked the rest of the day and through the night, but stopped the next morning. The same technician came back and took the thermostat apart, found some loose screws/wires, and tightened them (didn't charge me), and furnace worked again. The technician told me at the time he couldn't guarantee that was the problem but that he'd rather try it before he charged me for a heat pack. Eleven days later, the furnace wouldn't turn off, even if I turned the system off at the thermostat, and the house got very hot. The technician came again and decided that I needed a new heat pack. He ordered one and installed it the next day. The cost of the heat pack and installation was $519 - $61 discount offered on Angie's List = $458.00. Technician asked for half ($229) before ordering the heat pack and the balance ($229) after installation.

Jason Yim with John Nugent and Sons is superb! Outstanding service! This company and the employees are professional, knowledgeable, friendly as well as virtuous. Not only was Jason on time, but he was very friendly and was focused on the job. Jason is polite, patient and incredibly educated in the area of HVAC. I am so happy that I found a company that does it all, and an HVAC technician that I can trust and who makes me feel comfortable. He involved me with what was going on with my AC unit and furnace. All of my questions were answered and he did not try to sell me on anything that was not needed, or hassle me into buying the most expensive unit. If you want great service and a company who trains and hires individuals that know what they are doing, then I highly recommend John Nugent & Sons, and if you need service on HVAC – Jason Yim is your guy!

One of our 10-year old Sanyo ductless heat pumps has recently failed, and the second one was no longer providing sufficient heat. After reviewing several ductless systems, we decided to get the highly-regarded Mitsubishi system. The Mitsubishi website provides a listing of their best dealers (Diamond Contractors). This helped us select John Nugent & Sons, which also had superior ratings in Consumers Checkbook. Our experience with John Nugent & Sons was totally positive, starting with the initial call to Jennifer, to set-up an appointment for an evaluation. RJ Parker (Comfort Consultant) who evaluated our living areas, answered all our questions, and provided detailed recommendations. We selected the Mitsubishi Hyper heat pumps with matching wall-mounted air handlers. Not only do these units provide full heat even when outside temperatures drop to 13 degrees, the manufacturer offers a 12-year warranty, with the dealer providing a two-year warranty on labor. Heba, the project scheduler, arranged for Chad (Installation Manager) to do the installation walk-through. A few days later, the installation crew, headed by Joel began work (in bitterly cold temperatures). The larger unit was installed on the first day, and the smaller unit on the second. Both systems were installed beautifully and work perfectly. John Nugent & Sons has exceeded our expectations.

Both the guy that did the assessment and gave me the estimate and the crew that replaced the furnace we very polite and professional. My wife and I were very pleased and will definitely use them for future work.

We called the emergency service line of John Nugent & Sons early Sunday morning to help restore heat to our home. The State of Virginia was under a state of emergency due to a snowstorm that brought over a foot of snow in the region. We received a call back within the hour, and within 2 hours the owner of the company was at our doorstep ready to help! We have had a service contract with John Nugent & Sons for our heating and AC for a year and have been very pleased with their services, but we were completely blown away by their commitment to providing such excellent customer service during this snowstorm. None of his technicians could make it out of their respective neighborhoods to reach us, so the owner drove to us from over an hour away in his personal 4wd vehicle to assist in the middle of the storm! He was friendly, courteous, and resolved our issue within 30 minutes. The issue turned out to be due to a safety shut off due to a downdraft (aka user error!). He could not have been nicer, explained how the safety feature works, how to restart the system if this happens again, and what to be on the look out for. We were already happy customers of John Nugent & Sons, but this recent experience really sealed the deal for us to stay with them for all of our heating, AC, electric needs in the future. They are a family-owned operation for 40+ years, and they clearly value their customers and employees like family.

Scheduling was easy and flexible. Communication on arrival of plumber was very good. Once here, diagnosis was also quick and flat price repair cost was quoted. The work was done within an hour, with an explanation of what was found, and what he did. Prices aren't cheap, but I'm more concerned that quality work was done.

Diagnosed problem and replaced photocell

Called Nugent and Sons, woman on phone very friendly and helpful. Had someone out very quickly, and the work done soon after that. Very happy with service.

I was unhappy with the quality of work from John Nugent & Sons. I had an electrician out to investigate a heated floor thermostat which had a ground fault indicator light that would not go off. The electrician took it apart, made some measurements, and concluded that the thermostat was broken and should be replaced. I purchased a new thermostat but after installing it the GFI light on the new unit remained lit. I removed the thermostat and took some simple measurements and discovered a ground fault in one of the heating pads. The electrician did not check for a ground fault when diagnosing a ground fault indicator, which is absolutely elementary. When I called to complain someone took my message and said that a manager would call me back but no one ever did.

It went well. The plumber clearly explained the issue and made the repairs the same day.

Mark (master plumber) came to the house, quickly looked at the hot water heater and then asked about the exhaust pipes from the gas water heater and gas furnace. After showing him where they went, he told me they were not within code! This fact is extremely important because none of the other people who came to give quotes ever considered the location of the exhaust pipes. Also learned that only licensed professionals can obtain a work permit for your house (homeowners can obtain them as well). Project cost more but the updates passed county code with flying colors!! Mark was very professional, called before arriving, arrived and worked project until finished, put drop cloths down and cleaned up each day after they were done. Due to location of previous water heater, we had it moved to a better location with more room. Glad we did because 2 mos later we had to replace our furnace/AC unit.

BLUF: We hired John Nugent and Sons (JNS) for a major HVAC project in our house and we are very, very happy with the project in terms of execution, cost, and final outcome. Who: John Nugent and Sons in Northern Virginia. What: We met with four different HVAC companies and obtained ideas and estimates for how to replace an old HVAC system that barely worked and was installed in a location clearly not within county code. Of the four proposals, only two were worth examining further. Luckily, my out-of-town cousin used to work in HVAC and I asked him for his opinion. He reviewed them and said it was clear that JNS provided the best proposal - the most detailed, the most attention to the particulars of the house, and a great price for the amount of work involved. And there was a lot of work to do - they removed the old HVAC system, which was in the basement and behind walls; they removed all the ductwork in the crawlspace; they installed a new HVAC in the attic; they installed new ducts in the attic that connected to new ceiling vents in each room; and they installed all the necessary electrical and gas lines to the new HVAC, including concealing the lines nicely and cleanly along the outside of the house. They also installed a new water heater and a mini-ductless system in our basement. When: JNS completed the project in two weeks. Where: Our house, of course! Pros: Their overall project/sales manager consistently communicated with me about the project status and timeline. The workers were all polite and professional and accommodated our (many) questions and the (few) changes we had. They also went above and beyond by identifying a "stray" gas line behind a basement wall and ensuring the line was sealed/capped properly and marked for future awareness. They fully cleaned up their work every day. There was no pressure to make payments until the project was complete, passed inspection, and I was completely satisfied with everything. Cons: I asked JNS if they would be present during the day of inspection by the county. They said they would not but if I encountered any problems, they would be contacted by the county and remedy them. On inspection day, there were a some questions that would have been better handled by JNS than me, so that was not as smooth as it could have been if JNS were there. However, it did not affect the inspection and the project passed with no problem.

Extremely satisfied for the very quick response and quality of work regarding furnace repair. Technician (Jason Yim)was very polite, warm and friendly when he arrived in pouring rain with temperatures dipping into the low 40’s and we had no heat. Definitely customer oriented.

Michael was wonderful! Very professional and knowledgeable. He was very courteous and neat. I will definitely call Nugent & Sons for plumbing again. Although, their bid on electrical work was too pricey so didn't choose Nugent for my electrical needs. Still Nugent is a great company.

I am very happy with the work performed. The water main enters the house about 4 feet below grade and shrubs are growing on the area so accessing the problem required the right equipment, right parts and materials, and knowledge of how to fix the problem. I watched the team, Mike, Jason, and Carlos, work for a good part of the job and it was obvious they knew what they were doing and were careful about doing it. They also answered questions I had with thorough explanations and carefully replanted the shrubs. Super job!

Carlos was very engaging, knowledgable and professional. Found the GFCI and reset it. $142 for that was too high.

They installed a split unit and did an excellent job. The guys were punctual, hard working, and professional.

Everything went very smoothly - they showed up on time and installation was a breeze.
