Our builder gave us one day advance notice to come for our pre-drywall inspection, so I had to scramble to find a home inspector at the last minute. Luckily, Ian from Excel Home Inspections was available immediately and agreed to meet me at the property the following day. He emailed me his insurance certificate within minutes of our conversation, which expedited matters with my builder. The next day, Ian arrived early to the job site (in fact, earlier than me) and had already started his walk around of the exterior when I got there. He introduced himself to me and walked me through the process before beginning his inspection. He was incredibly thorough and explained everything to me in great detail. Each time I had a question, he patiently explained and helped me understand whether I was looking at a major issue or a trivial one. Overall, the process took a little over 3 hours, and I felt like very few stones were left unturned. I was pretty amazed at some of smallest details that Ian caught that I would never have noticed. Ian is incredibly knowledgable about his trade, and it's obvious he truly enjoys his job. He was enthusiastic about explaining to me various construction and framing techniques and generally why things work the way they do. He was completely professional in his approach to the work and his client. He knew that I was in a tight spot with my builder and I needed to give them my punch list ASAP, so he worked late into the evening and emailed me a thorough inspection report that same night. I could not have been more impressed.
