The yard looks great and all the insects that were eating up our landscape are gone! They also helped us get control of scab on our trees. The workers are very polite - if you go outside while they are mowing or edging, they stop to allow you to move around without having to worry about flying debris. We asked that they do not bring the heavy mowers onto the lawn to avoid putting in the ground - they willfully did as we ask without any complaints. The crew is lightening fast but the quality of their work as perfect! We are so delighted to have found HEMAX!!!

When Henry from HEMAX (Henry and Max are the owners) came out to give us an estimate, he gave us a very precise explanation of why our concrete front stoop was sinking and how it could be fixed. He also noticed that the ground at the foundation of the house had eroded and offered to regrade and remulch it as part of the package. The price estimate for the project was very reasonable, lower than other estimates we received. I like that they handled all the arrangements for the railing subcontract work, which the other companies I contacted would not do. Their office managers Marlin and Tatiana are also very professional and easy to deal with. The work had to be done in three stages and scheduled according to the weather, and it was all done promptly and with expert skill. The crew boss had 20 years experience dealing with concrete. Now we have beautiful new front steps with black wrought iron railings, and have gotten many comments on how lovely it is. Would contract with HEMAX again any time!

After seeing how thorough a job they did, how much work was involved, and how well everything works and looks as a finished product.... I think the price was extremely reasonable. We got other quotes from what I call "hucklebuck" outfits for much less, but I'm sure they had no way of doing a first class job like Hemax did. We are very happy with the results and found Henry very easy to work with. I would add photos, but that's not an option.
Description of Work: We had lots of drainage issues and an ugly backyard. Mud and dirt was a problem. Hemax regraded, installed a 38' long wall to level the area, with a gravel base and a beautiful flagstone walkway on the side of our house. Also installed LOTS, about 62 linear feet, of very large Pennsylvania field stepping stones around the house and out to our shed with Delaware river jack stone between the field stepping stones and in a 4' wide swale adjacent to the stepping stones. So basically they made a beautiful and functional walkway where the water flowed very hard when it rained. They also extended the drainage downspouts in the back yard by installing approx. 70' of 4" pvc pipe, buried 12'-14' deep. These pipes lead to a 5' x 5' x 5' deep drainage infiltration box that they also built. They also installed a 200 square feet flagstone patio adjacent to an existing deck. They also installed a 4' x 4' x 4" deep concrete pad for the AC unit.

The project went well. Some small detail had to be reviewed through the time they were here but they always responded, they ALL are extremely polite and caring. The stone work was beautiful! I will just recommend other costumers to be very clear about what they want since a change order can be really pricy. This is not the first company with whom this has happened. But overall I will highly recommend them.

You've got to be kidding me. I had some fairly significant drainage and erosion concerns at my house. I had just recently moved in in May and as I was getting settled, I noticed the final grade around the house had never been done. Downspouts drained against the house and the grading of the yard caused rain runoff to drain back against the house as well. Henry came out to evaluate and provide an estimate. As we walked around the house he immediately began telling me what he thought we should do without first listening to my concerns. He then began to throw out numbers on how much it would cost to fix these issues. "Oh about $15-20K to fix this" We continued to walk the property and he suggested a few more items, each solution was another several thousand dollars... I lost count how much we were up to at this point. Last, I asked him how much to grind a few (5) stumps. (mostly just to see how absurd this was going to get) "About $1,000". Yeah, I was done at that point. I called him on it and said, 'it seems like you're just throwing ballpark figures around and aren't very detailed with your estimates'. His response was that he 'does about 20 of these estimates a week and if he gets only a 7 or 8 call backs, then he's doing pretty good'. At that point, he said, is when he will come back and do a more detailed estimate. Didn't sound like a very good business model to me, so Henry and I parted ways and I bid him a good afternoon. By the way, the contractor I went with did the whole job and a lot more for just over 8,000 and I am completely satisfied with the work. Plus, the two other estimates I received were no where near to Henry's quote. Last, I had a separate contractor grind the five stumps for $250.

We appreciate the time you took to leave a great feedback of your thoughts about your meeting. We always encourage all of our clients to compare our formal proposal with other contractors’ proposal, as apples to apples. Nevertheless, HEMAX was not given the opportunity to create a formal estimate. During a meeting, our sales representative will provide a ballpark price for each service. However, once all of the notes and accurate calculations are determined a formal proposal is to be provided, which at that moment the ballpark price will be more or less than expressed at the initial meeting. Having said that, a formal proposal was actually not provided to you for the work you requested since you said that you would contact the office when you were ready for a proposal. In regards to the stump removal, we do not blame you for going with the contractor you selected. The price of $250 for five (5) large stumps is the best we have heard of for a licensed contractor. Thank you once again for your thoughts.

Kudos to Henry at Hemax who drew up a comprehensive plan from basic guidance. Although not a large-scale project, it only took them two days to complete which was well beyond expectations. Overall, great thorough work--we couldn't be happier!

Superb workmanship by a thorough and professional crew. Unlike many crews who are lacking oversight by a boss, Max who provided the estimate, and was the boss of the team, was constantly on site. The team was so meticulous preserving our existing grass and beds when digging the ditches for the new pipes, that not a clod of dirt remained! Using landscape material they captured all the soil they dug out and carefully refilled the ditch after laying top grade PVC pipe. They also filled in all the eroded beds and areas and carefully replaced the sod so the entire slope looks as if it hasn't been touched a week later. They even fixed my wall witch had multiple large blocks out of alinement at no extra charge. I'll choose them for my future works, they are that great.

The work was done on time, on budget, with high quality and attention to detail. We had viewed the project as mostly a construction job, but were surprised and immensely pleased with the careful landscaping work that went with it., In excavating for underground drainage, the workers tunneled under tree roots to avoid damaging plants. Our ornamental plantings that were in the way of retaining walls were dug up and replanted (something that was not in the contract but was very much appreciated.) The HEMAX crew regraded land and installed and watered sod, even in an area where heavy stones had been unloaded from the delivery truck and had caused a small depression in the grass. (The work team dug up the top layer of grass as sod, added soil below it and put the sod back! We hadn't expected that.) They had to remove part of an existing stacked stone wall in order to put a drainage pipe underground, and replaced the stones perfectly when the work was done. The new stone walls they built are a work of art. Despite the July heat, the crew finished the work in three days, which was faster than we expected. They were very neat and cleaned up the work area every day before leaving. Henry Cruz helped us in planning the project, and his ideas helped us end up with a project that was better than the one we had first envisioned. When answering our many questions, Henry was very professional and at the same time felt like a member of our family. Of the four people who came out to bid on this project, Henry was by far the easiest to work with.

From the minute we met John McGee, we knew we'd picked the right firm to make our backyard farmette beautiful and mud-free. He explained every detail and assured us that he'd put a great team on the job -- and boy, did he ever! Throughout the project, we were kept informed -- John stopped by regularly to make sure everything was proceeding correctly and according to schedule. As the project concluded, we realized that we needed to make a modification -- the the guys added the additional edging perfectly. We'd never done anything like this, so we had no idea what the cost would be or should be. John took the time to explain our options and exactly how much each part of the project would run. There were no money surprises. Included in the price was reconstruction of the yard areas that were torn up (as expected) during construction. The finished result is worth every penny. Best of all, we feel as if we made a friend in Hemax and in John McGee. We're planing another project next summer and you can bet Hemax will get the job!!!
Description of Work: Hemax removed an old rock walkway and: 1) installed a mortared flagstone landing and walkway from the walkout basement to the yard fence; 2) Installed a gravel-based flagstone walkway from the gate to the chicken yard; 3) Built a gravel yard with aluminum edging all around the chicken coop and mini-barn; 4) Insured proper drainage beneath the landing and walkway 5) Cleaned up the construction area

Estimator cancelled appointment late in the day after I had taken a day off work, which, because I am a contractor cost me hundreds of dollars. He did immediately reschedule for the following Saturday and showed up on time. His demeanor was very professional and courteous. Gave me a price quote, said he would follow up with a formal contract. That was the 6th and 7th of June 2014. A month later I have heard nothing from the company, despite having called them twice. Guess business is so good they don't need several thousand dollars worth of new business, and I will find a competitor who is more responsive.

Dear [Member name removed], I am very sorry I was unable to get back to you in time with your bid. This indeed has been the busiest year of my life which, in general, is a good thing, but it has also unfortunately prevented me from getting back to everyone with whom we’d like to work. It was a great pleasure meeting you and as I said, I am sincerely sorry I didn’t get back to you with your bid.

We intentionally waited a few months to write this review because we wanted to be certain that the work performed as good as it looked. Foundation water remediation was our primary objective. Since the work has been completed, we have had 3 periods of intense rain of four inches or more dropped in less than 24 hours to over approximately 2 days. We experienced none of the flooding issues that would have occurred prior to the work being done. Hemax solved our foundation water problems. The results are both attractive and functional . For job 1, Hemax provided water remediation services including removal of the old concrete front walk and steps replacing them with new concrete steps and concrete decking in the front of the house. Hemax replaced the galvanized steel basement window well retainer, removed old gravel and added new, and added a plexiglass fitted cover for the window well. They also removed and replaced the concrete deck that supports the air conditioner near the back patio. The deck had settled and rain water flowed toward the house. Hemax removed plants close to the house, re-contoured and packed the land near the foundation to slope away from the home. They re-contoured the swale across the back yard to flow water around the house and covered it with new sod. In the process, they found erosion under the top platform leading down the rear steps to the rear stairwell which was collecting water and causing flooding in the stairwell. Hemax packed the eroded area so water couldn't collect. During the course of the work, we requested minor design changes which Hemax responded to in less than 24 hours. Everyone from the office staff to the on-site workers were very professional and courteous. The cost for this work was $8,240 and was completed in about 3 days. We were so impressed with Hemax's work on Job 1 that we immediately ordered Job 2, replacement of collapsing fence gates and fence. Hemax recommended 6" by 6" fence posts to support the gates. The previous 4" by 4" posts caused the old gates to start sagging within one year which is happening now to my neighbor's gates installed by another company. Hemax removed the old gates and fence then custom built 2 new gates, installed in 2 X 5-foot steps and about 30 feet of board-on-board fence. Hemax also installed about 18 feet of 4" PVC pipe underground along the fence line in anticipation of draining for new gutters we were planning to install. The cost for this work was $2,990 and was completed in less than 2 days. During the follow-up walk through, Hemax agreed to finish some contouring work near the side of the house which was completed a few days later at no additional cost. We definitely recommend Hexmax for the quality, price and integrity of their work.

My existing walkway and deck were in very poor shape. I had gotten several estimates last fall to replace them, but was hesitant mainly because of design ideas. What would be the best option? Henry took one look and just seemed to know exactly what I needed. He was prompt, courteous, and professional in every way. Together, we choose the color and design of pavers at EP Henry, submitted plans to my HOA, and he and his team made my dreams come true. I really appreciated the way he kept things simple (no pressure) but was open to and suggestive of ideas like adding a special medallion design to the walkway and extending the stoop for my flowerpots. Henry, Max, and their crew were as thoughtful as could be. I really didn't even need to be around while they completed the work, everything went smoothly, and they were finished on time. Some of the guys stayed late and worked on Saturday to finish. I had ordered a new mailbox and post to complete the look, but how to pick them up and install them? No worry. Hemax took care of that as well! I have only good things to say about this company and do not hesitate to recommend them with flying colors. Come fall, I plan to have them back to do more landscaping. Thank you, Henry, Max, and your entire group!

Project was done very well. The patio is beautiful, and the workers were professional and cleaned up well. Managers stopped by during the day to make sure things were being done as expected. They came back and power washed both the patio and the deck and cleaned up again a few days after completion. The cost was very fair and the quality of work exceeded expectations. Few contractors meet those standards.

I found HEMAX on Angie?s List after reading one review. I was so impressed with the comments made by the reviewer about HEMAX that I decided to call to schedule an estimate. I spoke with Tatiana, the assistant property manager. I asked Tatiana if I could request that Henry Cruz one of the owners could come out to give the estimate. Tatiana said it wouldn?t be a problem and she scheduled my appointment to happen in a few days. Henry was very professional and knowledgeable. He listened to my vision for the backyard and provided suggestions. In a few days I received a drawing of my new patio and the cost estimate. I had to get approval from my HOA for the work. HEMAX provided a detailed design, scope of work to be done and the necessary photos of materials to be used which resulted in the HOA approving my application. The entire HEMAX site work crew, led by Max (the other owner) and Ray were professional, pleasant and hardworking. The cleaned up all debris at the end of each work day. Max and Ray were available to answer any questions that I had. The HEMAX office staff, Tatiana and Riccy were awesome and accommodating as well! If I had a question I could call and get a quick response from them. Upon completion of the work, Henry came and did the final walk through inspection. There were a few minor fixes and they were done in a few days. I am extremely happy with the work done by HEMAX. A few days after the work was completed it rained for 4 days consecutively! Because of the EXCELLENT job that HEMAX did to fix the grading and drainage problem, I have a dry basement and a beautiful backyard! My neighbors have commented how beautiful my backyard looks. I highly recommend HEMAX and would use their services in the future. They care about their customers and provide excellent service.

I spoke to 3 different contractors about a plan to install a paver patio behind my house. Over the next few weeks, I began to have a picture of what I wanted, and I decided that Hemax Landscaping was the best choice to do the work. Mr. Henry Cruz is excellent to work with. He is interested in quality workmanship, and he worked with me on details of the design process. I asked as many questions as I could think of, and he made adjustments to the plan in response to my requests. Mr. Cruz?s estimate was very organized, each part clearly itemized and priced. I appreciated that the proposal outlined all general conditions such as that the contractor would arrange for Miss Utility to inspect the site before digging. The Hemax office staff members are equally helpful and responsive. Mr. Cruz?s crew were very professional, worked very smoothly and quickly. I wasn?t home very much after the first day, but they followed the specifications I had asked, and it was fun to see the progress each day. I will definitely hire Hemax again if I should decide to do further plans. I do not consider them cheap, but I felt the price was very reasonable for excellent quality. 9/16/2013, we had a signed contract, which I sent on to the Home Owner's Association for approval. 10/28/2013, I received approval from the HOA, and learned that the HOA had agreed to replace my neighbor's fence on my side in order that my contractor could rebuild the supporting wall. 11/11/2013, Hemax crew (about 5 guys) arrived to begin digging. HOA contractor came to remove the fence but did not want to remove the fence posts although they were clearly rotting at the base. Since the HOA contractor was not prepared to do this work, Mr. Cruz had new fence posts brought in, and arranged for his own crew to replace the fence posts that day so the work could continue without delay. He worked with the HOA to get them to agree to cover the cost of the fence posts as well as the rest of the fence. I was very relieved about this, and so was my neighbor. 11/12/2013, At the start of the second day, the Hemax crew had finished putting up the 3 new fence posts, and most of the cinder block wall was complete. The property level was graded and the drain pipe was buried. 11/13/2013, At the start of the third day, the cinder block wall was complete, the brick veneer under the sliding glass door was installed, and they had started prepping and leveling the surface for the concrete pavers. 11/14/2013, At the start of the fourth day, the pavers had been installed, the garden bed was installed, and river rocks had been installed around the HVAC unit and in the garden bed. I requested that the rocks be removed from the garden bed and only be kept around the HVAC. 11/15/2013, At the start of the fifth day, the rocks had been removed from the garden bed and replaced with mulch as I had asked. Grass sod had been placed at the far end of the patio where the ground had been disturbed to bury the drain pipe and level the property. Later in the morning, I met with Mr. Cruz to inspect the finished project.

Install 4" PVC pop-up drainage emitter at the end for drainage efficiency. Install 4" PVC clean out Wye with plug between gutter downspout and PVC drain pipe. -- Construct concrete cinder block wall along neighbor’s fence. This task involved initial uncertainty because of unknown condition of existing wall. It required removing fence and existing wall from that side of neighbor’s yard. The wall, measuring @ 15.5’ length x8” width x16” height, is constructed of 16”x8”x8” concrete cinder blocks, and reinforced with 5”x7” concrete footing and #4 rebar. Hemax also replaced the fence posts, but HOA covering cost of replacing fence and fence posts. -- Veneer visible side of house concrete foundation wall with brick -- Install river stone around HVAC units, enclosed with 6”x6” pressure treated wood border. HEMAX was great. Henry and his brother were fantastic to work with and their front office staff, specifically Tatiana were a pleasure work with. They understood a budget concerns and worked their price and payment to our needs. Completely professional, fast, prompt, and efficient. They would contact us in the evening hours, daytime hours, email, phone, you name it. They were in touch with us every step. Henry also would send pictures to us as we were out of town during the job. We originally planned to have the floor to the garage completely repaired because it had sunk. Little did we know that the structural wall and it's integrity were compromised. It was awful timing due to our budget constraints and a gov't shutdown. Henry and the staff worked with us to keep the project focused and in the end we now have a garage we can park a car in. They also went out and contracted with a driveway company to extend the driveway. Henry provided us with three quotes. So he basically did alot of the legwork for us. All three driveway groups are on Angieslist with good grades so we got a good company. They were done in a half a day. HEMAX then sent us an email on how to maintain the driveway for years to come. Good group of people.
Description of Work: Hemax assisted with the repair of the floor and structural wall of our garage and design of drain system away from the garage to coincide with a new driveway install.
