Our HOA needed to replace a failed 60-foot long drainage pipe that ran across one our private roads leading into a cul de sac and also had to address a number of erosion issues that the HOA had been dealing with at the pipe entrance and exit for many years. The HOA solicited potential solutions and 4 bids for the job from local contractors. Full-time access for residents during the project and ensuring that all necessary materials were available in a timely manner was a huge consideration for the HOA - especially with winter approaching. HEMAX was selected because they provided a solid plan, assured material availability, a guaranteed project start date and submitted the most competitive quote. The project involved asphalt cutting, excavation and replacement of a 24-inch corrugated metal drainage pipe with a high density polyethylene pipe, installation and compaction of fill over the new pipe to specifications and the application of hot-patch asphalt to repair the road surface. The project also included: the creation of new culverts and catch basins, the establishment of a head wall at the new pipe entrance, repair of existing culverts, and providing additional fill and re-grading of both sides of the private road for safety and also to help ease future maintenance of the area. Afterward, all work was seeded, covered with erosion control matting and lined with rip rap. Throughout the whole project, the HEMAX team kept the HOA Board informed and did an outstanding job. The project started and completed on-time and was efficiently executed so that residents had full-time access to the area and were minimally affected. Each night, the work area was well cleaned and all equipment safely stowed. The HOA Board highly recommends HEMAX based on their cost and performance on this project and will definitely consider them for future work within the HOA.

It did not go well. They gave me 2 estimates and I decided to go with estimate B which was more expensive. Chip, the salesman, swore that he would be on site and make sure everything always went well which was a big reason I hired them. Well Chip told the workers to do estimate A instead. So it started off badly. Then every single thing Chip told me would get done did not get done and he took days to a week to show up to check. The project should have taken 4 days but it took more than a month. The disconnect between the workers and the sales team is horrible. I would not hire them again ever.

The project could not have gone any better. From the initial estimate to the final walkthrough, our experience with HEMAX was a VERY welcome change of pace compared to previous landscaping projects with other local vendors. Our project coordinator (Chris) was very responsive and was at the worksite often (sometimes several times a day). His estimates were detailed, accurate, and fair. The work crew was exceptional - quick, efficient, courteous, and respectful of our property. In lieu of COVID-19 distancing precautions, HEMAX even had a port-a-potty delivered to our project site. HEMAX has earned my referral - and I would encourage anyone in the Northern VA area looking for landscaping/drainage solutions to give them a call.

Hemax is a wonderful company. Henry designed the project and monitored the work from start to finish. Every day the crew was on time and cleaned up after the work. I was amazed at the detail they took laying the flagstone and building the wall. Henry’s estimate of the cost and time to completion was accurate. I have already planned another project with them!! The project went smoothly from start to finish. The design and solutions for the drainage are working beautifully and are well designed and executed for hard rains, which were causing problems on our property and now, for the first time in years, are not! The landscape designer provided thoughtful and creative planting solutions that really enhance our existing gardens and filled some spaces with particular growing conditions that I had found tricky before. The team delivered even more in terms of executing the plan, service, and customer care than we had anticipated - and we expected a lot, based on previous experience with HEMAX and the high standards they set for themselves.. This is our third experience with HEMAX and we will continue to call them first for any project. We highly recommend HEMAX.

I was very happy with all parts of the process. The estimator was on time for the appointment. He was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. The estimate was clear and complete. The payment process clear and easy. The actual installation began on time, was well done, and looks very good. The follow up for quality checks and payment was quick and efficient. I was very happy.

Hemax performed a drainage improvement project in conjunction with a complete driveway replacement. The project turned out excellent. On time, professional and knowledgeable crews. Henry Cruz is an excellent project manager. He provides extra value to the job with his insightful ideas. Price was fair and there was no pressure to increase it; only truly valuable recommendations. I poured about 50 gallons of water down the driveway and was very pleased with the improved grading of the driveway and the functionality of the catch basin. The drainage improvement and driveway both look great and I look forward to many years of enjoying the added functionality they provide. Money well spent on a job well done.

Hemax exceeded our expectations by delivering top quality products and services. We are thrilled with our screened porch and our backyard has truly been transformed. We used to have a serious drainage issue that left us with standing water after a heavy rain. Now the water flows right out of our yard. The tree work, fence and new patio complement the screened porch and are beautiful. We are now able to enjoy our backyard! Everyone from Hemax was very hard-working and professional. It was a pleasure to have them work this project for us and I would highly recommend them!

It was good. On time and knowledgeable

After a recent, horrendous experience with a general contractor who created surface water drainage problems resulting in repeated incidents of rain water in my basement and crawl space, then refused to fix the problems and imposed a mechanics lien when I refused to make final payment (subject of another review), I was desperate to find a reputable and competent contractor to fix the mess created by the first contractor. I found HEMAX, and I'm glad I did. I had on-site interviews with four companies before choosing HEMAX. In addition to fixing grading and surface water drainage problems, HEMAX installed a 50' x 3' curved retaining wall and a 400sqft paver patio, as well as 500sqft of sod and mulch. From the hands-on company co-owner and sales/project manager to the crew of guys who did the work, everyone I dealt with was professional and responsive. The same guys showed up every day, put in a full-day's work every day, leaving time at the end of each day to clean up the work site. Not only would I highly recommend HEMAX, I have already recommended HEMAX several times.

I would highly recommend Hemax! We hired Hemax in August 2018 to fix water leaking into our basement in a house we recently purchased. After receiving multiple quotes, Hemax was not necessarily the cheapest, but they were by far the most thorough and easiest to work with, which was well-worth the money and peace of mind. To address the water problems our house had, Hemax removed an old concrete patio that was sloping toward the house and causing water to pool against our foundation. They repaired the foundation wall (by digging 33' long by 7' deep) to expose the foundation and install metal lath/waterproof the foundation. They also installed an exterior drain and sump pump (with a battery back-up system) in our basement (we previously did not have a sump pump). Hemax also extended our down spouts to improve drainage and keep water away from our house, in addition to installing a french drain where water was pooling in our front yard. The crew was extremely professional and Henry was always available to answer our questions. Since they completed their work, we have not had any water issues at all, and we are looking forward to hiring them again for all of our future exterior home projects.

The Hemax crews were professional, neat, and organized just say a few things about them. They always showed up for work in uniform and prepared for the tasks at hand. I'm not sure when they met to discuss how and what they would work on but it was apparent they knew what they were going to do as soon as they hit the backyard. No hanging around waiting to be told what to do. They worked long hours and when they left they made sure the worksite was neat and tidy. Henry and Max were always available to answer any questions. If I had issues they were already noticing the issue or had the answer of what they planned to do as the project went on. This project had some delays due to the crazy rainy weather. If the guys couldn't be there we heard from the staff or they would come by on the off chance that the rain would let them work. This crew has my utmost appreciation and admiration on how they turned our mud-pit into a beautiful outdoor room. Without a doubt, we will have them back to improve another part of the house in the future.

We were extremely satisfied with the services from Hemax. The owners were always very responsive to my questions and were on site regularly to make sure everything was going as planned. The foreman and all workers were very professional and completed the project in a timely manner. Clean up after the project was also great, as they came back out one additional time to power wash our driveway and part of the road in front of the house.

We enjoyed working with HEMAX from the very first phone call to the final walkthrough. Henry, Max, and their team were a dream to work with. We first called Henry to get a quote and he came out on time and listened and provided input on what our backyard could handle. He sent us multiple designs that we tweaked a few times and then provided a final estimate that was about 25% lower than anyone else we met with. We'd decided on over 500sq ft of paver patio with a fairly complex stair design to keep our grill plus a lot of rounded cuts. The quote was still so reasonable. We also added on a 30' swale with some regrading of our backyard because it held water due to low spots. After choosing all the stone colors and finalizing the design we paid our deposit and anxiously waited to get started. This is a place where HEMAX really stands out- it was rainy the week we were supposed to start and they were proactive about contacting us and telling us they'd reschedule our start as soon as possible. I cannot tell you how many companies just wouldn't show and we'd be left guessing. I digress. Once the work started their men were here from basically 8am until 6pm every day working incredibly hard. Each day they cleaned up the site and even tried to put back a section of our fence so our dog wouldn't get out. They were meticulous in their work and the perfectionist in me appreciates that! They were even able to work in some changes we had mid project without missing a step. As they were finishing up they worked on the swale and French drain and were able to finish that up within a couple days. All in, the work took about 10 days- exactly within Henry's original estimate. We've been living with the finished product for a week now and we fall in love with it more and more each day. The attention to detail is unparalleled. Their communication is amazing- Henry would email back within hours of me contacting him, no matter how small my question. Hands down I would (and will!) hire HEMAX in the future.

Henry came out to give me a quote to remove a large section of unwanted vegetation that acted as a natural barrier from my neighbor's property to the left and unwanted English Ivy that had taken over on the right side. He recommended sod installed to replace both, and a mulch bed around 2 large trees that previously had the ivy creeping on them. They installed a beautiful fence with 3 gates, and a timber retaining wall to replace rocks that were no longer supportive. The project took about 4 days. They did such a great job! His crew was so professional, punctual and all worked so hard. I knew Hemax was good as I had used them for a much smaller project 5 years earlier but this proved they're true professionals that do quality work. They are very detail oriented. I couldn't believe how great the retaining wall came out. My yard looks so much bigger and more private. We're very happy with the results and will definitely be using them for future projects as finances permit.

This is the second year we have had HEMAX prepare our flower beds for the growing season. All plant beds were weeded and all debris was removed. Bed edges were cut to a 2” depth. Beds were de-mulched where necessary for proper mulch management. Corrective pruning, shaping, and dead wooding of plant material was performed, and apre-emergent weed control was applied where it was deemed appropriate. Double-shredded hardwood mulch was installed to maintain 2 inches mulch coverage of the beds. The crew arrived on time and cleaned up before they left leaving no evidence of their work other than beautifully prepared flower beds. We'll bring HEMAX back again next year.

Francisco did a great job in re-doing our existing flower bed. He removed the old timbers and replaced with new timbers. He did a great job and also cleaned up the whole area. We are very happy with the completed job.
