I only asked for a preliminary estimate, described in detail my project in an Angie's list message, and indicated in it when the county design with the details would be available to get a final detailed quote. I must say that fortunately things did not go beyond the estimate stage. Despite taking the time to write a detailed message explaining my project, when the company staffer returned my call it became immediately obvious she did not even take a minute to read it. In addition, she did not seem to know what she was talking about. We do not do business with companies that behave like this as it is only a harbinger of what will happen when you are locked in with the project. She started lecturing me about need to call the county before pumping out my tank which was complete nonsense since I had to pump out the septic tank since it was 5 years since my last one. She somehow was arguing that leaving the stuff in the tank would have allowed an assessment of whether there was a problem with the tank. We were not expecting any problem with the tank, which had not given any symptoms of trouble. It happens to be the case that ,thanks to the pump out, the crumbling wall became obviously visible. Also it makes little sense to try to do costly repairs on something you will need to replace soon in any case since septic tanks last 50 years in the best of cases and ours is already 45 years old. Once things like this start to happen, you most likely will need to do one expensive repair after another which is probably convenient for the company but not the homeowner. Finally, she indicated should could not give estimates without the size of the tank which I had included in the message she did not read which was finally did it for me. The call was absurd beyond anything I experienced recently and completely unprofessional. Ironically, after completely wasting my time and showing no interest/respect whatsoever in listening to the customer, she even got upset because I asked her if she was really interested in giving me an estimate since I did not need to go through all this with several other professional companies interested in the project doing what is reasonable. They gave a price range given the information available and indicated a final estimate would be available once the county provides the design. The bottom line: do not waste your time with this company. Who would trust a significant investment, like that involved in replacing a septic tank, with someone who behaves like this person?

This company was supposed to inspect a property prior to purchase to ensure the well and the septic were good. They were informed by the health department during the inspection that the septic was not up to code because of an addition the previous owners put on the house. They failed to tell us this information and told us they needed to replace the distrobution box. That was in February 2009. We bought the house not knowing about the health department and still have not gotten the work from Five Start that they were contracted to do. Erin the owner came to the home and smelled of beer and stated that he would take care of the issues. He contacted several other septic companies in the area and never returned to my property to complete the work. I have found another septic company that is going to do the work. They know Erin and his company. They stated that he is young and still learning. Well I don't take that as a good reason to not complete a job or to hide information from the owner.
