Doris is a true professional, she arrived at my home ready to take down the details of what I wanted to have done. She took notes, a few days laters she provided a detailed sketch of the rooms and plans for the drapery and bedding I planned to have made. With the sketching she also provided the detailed line items of the cost for materials, start-up cost and estimates for completion. On the day of installation Doris and her crew came prepared and the installation was seamless as you will see in the pictures the drapes and bedding turned out beautifully. Thank you Doris for providing a phenomenal service, I will definitely be using you and your team for future services.

It was a pleasure dealing with Doris. All along the process, Doris was courteous, professional and prompt. She came in for the initial estimate on-time and provided us with a nice design that we liked. She then followed up with her estimate - which is what we ended up paying. No extras or overages. Met us at the local Calico shop to select the fabrics - and as others have mentioned earlier, passed on her discount to us. Her crew came in on the installation day and installed the drapes and blinds as promised. She was there with us all through the process. We enjoyed working with Doris on this project. Just delayed in writing this review... Doris is a rare find in this field. We would not hesitate using their services again for our other projects.

The overall experience was excellent. I was kept informed throughout the day via e-mail of when they would arrive, and Doris was very apologetic about the delay. Doris and her assistant are clearly very knowledgeable about draperies and installation and did a fantastic, professional job. They advised me how best to take care of the drapes. I would not hesitate to recommend them and am considering using her services in the future to make drapes and a duvet cover for my bedroom.

Fantastic! It all went very well, I love all my drapes however Doris does it all drapes, pillows, seat cushions. I am now in my second home and getting curtains done in my new house as well.

Doris's website said she would make window treatments from customer's own fabrics, which is what I was looking for. I had fabrics purchased to go with my bedroom intending to make the shades myself but decided to have someone else do the work. Doris came to my house, arriving promptly as scheduled. She is a delightful and friendly person. On the spot I decided to also have her create a roman shade for my kitchen french-style door and to have her and her team furnish/install other window treatments such as blinds and shades to replace the 30-year old aluminum blinds and the ancient window shades in other rooms in my house. She promptly sent me estimates for these treatments, which I accepted. She represents Hunter/Douglas, which is pretty much top of the line, they work like a dream and I think they're definitely worth the $$. Doris kept in touch with me throughout the ordering and manufacturing process, and arrived as scheduled for the installation appointment. She said it would take only 2 l/2 hours to install everything. She came with her install team and supervised everything, but her team is also neat, friendly, competent and hard-working. They moved what needed to be moved, and put everything back and cleaned up. They got everything up and in perfect working order within that 2 l/2 hours. I don't anticipate needing any new window treatments for awhile but I have no hesitation recommending Doris Custom Designs. She and her team also make custom fabric cushions, pillows, duvet covers, etc. (but not bedspread/quilting), FYI.

The drapes and hardware are absolutely stunning and clearly professionally made and installed. The fabric Doris helped us choose drapes well and has a lovely sheen and texture. The fabric is wonderfully tailored while still having a soft look. Doris was very professional and pleasant at every step of the way. Custom-made drapes are an expensive project, and she helped us out with this by getting us to a 25% off sale at Calico Corners. She provided excellent advice on fabric, materials, and a drapery style that is attuned with our taste. The project was done in a very reasonable amount of time.

Doris Custom Design is a very patient group. I was not exactly sure of what kind of draperies I wanted on my bare windows, and Doris was willing to hold my hand through the entire process. After guiding me through the decision process, I was impressed by the high level of workmanship on the finished product. Doris' team came on time to install quickly and professionally. It doesn't matter where you go, custom drapes are never cheap, however the quality and service that Doris Custom Design provides is worth every penny I paid.

She came out and measured and quickly turned around the job for me. I plan to work with her for some window coverings in my kitchen.

In November 2013 Doris came to our house to create a design for two single width living room windows, one double width dinning room window, one double width sunroom window and a sunroom sliding patio door. The cost for Doris's initial visit which included window treatment designs with drawings, sometimes with alternate treatments, is $75. We provided pannels for the two living room windows. We liked and accepted the design for all the windowsand with the exception of the double window in the sunroom, had Doris do all the work. We met Doris at Calico Corners where we picked out curtain fabrics for the dining room and sunroom curtains. Doris and the sales people at Calico Corners were a delight to work with and did an excellent job in helping us select suitable fabrics. On 9 January 2014, a workman and a workwoman came to our house to install the drapes and this work was supervised by Doris. No price evaluation was done in this review. The reason for this is buying drapes is complicated and time consuming and for that reason the contract was awarded on a single bid. I'm sure had we done the drapes by ourself, the work could have been done for a lower price but I am also sure the work would not have been done as well.

She done such a great job for living room/dinning room/master bedroom. Based on my frunitures style and color that her excellent experience and professional interior designing made my room so elegant and bright. Thank you, Doris. Good communication and always listened customer needs, great job for effective installation. 100% get Doris back if I need other window treatments later on.

Doris was wonderful and such a delight to work with. She is very professional, yet very personable. She listened to my needs and wishes, and made the design to suit my house style and my personal preference. She was careful with my budget and worked hard to design and pick the materials to fit my budget. She helped me pick the right fabric from Calico fabric store. I also ordered some fabric from an online store, and she gave me suggestions. The window coverings brought a lot beauty to our new house, and all our friends and visitors admired the beautiful window treatment! I had two other window treatment designers come to give me an estimate, and I found Doris the best one in terms of design and price! Doris is simply amazing and a very delightful person! I can't say enough about how happy I was with her work and the products. I already recommended her to a few of my friends and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a window treatment designer!

Doris drew up sketches during the appointment and provided various options and suggestions as to materials and styles. I relied mostly on her suggestions based on her many years of experience and the reviews posted on Angies List. On the day of installation, the crew performed the installation in about two hours - Doris was here during the entire time to oversee the installation process and make sure everything was perfect. What she did transformed my home from average to outstanding. Doris' professionalism and love for her work is obvious. Couldn't be more pleased.

Good design advice and speedy completion of project

Doris is a true artist; she can hand draw beautiful illustrations of your window design in minutes. She is energetic, meticulous and completely organized. Plus, her installation team is talented and personable. I highly recommend this provider.

I cannot say enough about what a wonderful job and pleasant experience working with Doris was. She has so much energy and enthusiasm for what she does and it shows. Unfortunately, my experience has been that many of the top-rated service providers on Angie's List have grown overconfident and the customer service seems to have suffered. But not Doris. She approaches each job with excitement, and she makes you feel like you are her most important customer with every interaction. As for the final product, we could not be happier. She spent a considerable amount of time with me picking fabrics and I never felt rushed. She made sure I got all of the discounts possible from the store and delivered a product that was exquisite. She is very considerate of cost and helped steer me to more cost effective options whenever possible. For example, she was very creative in using material from previous draperies I owned to save us money. She was professional in her interactions, issuing me detailed invoices and establishing a clear payment schedule. Doris has a great eye for design and she recommended fabrics that I wouldn't have necessarily thought of on my own, and the results are stunning. Our friends and neighbors have all commented on what beautiful window treatments we have, and I feel as though our rooms could be featured in a magazine layout! Custom window treatments are not cheap, but the attention to detail and design really shows. We have a brand new home (new construction) and there is no way I could have chosen the right window treatments without Doris to help. If you are thinking about custom window treatments, I would not hesitate to recommend that you work with Doris. If you are considering buying draperies from a catalog, thinking that they will look good enough, I would also urge you to reconsider - go custom and work with Doris. The difference is clear. Plus, you will enjoy the experience, maybe even learn a thing or two about design. And no mail order catalog can give you that.

I was very pleased with the end result!

From our initial contact until project completion Doris was extremely responsive, professional and knowledgable. Doris obviously has many years of experience and understands design, and is conscientious about about cost. We felt lucky to have found her and will use her again in the future. We have many projects in mind, which will benefit from her high quality work. We highly recommend her services! Additionally, she was able to have the panels made and installed in 6 weeks which was unbelievable.

Doris was a delight to work with and listened to what I wanted. She then helped with her design skills to make it work - and it worked beautifully. She has changed the appearance of my home wonderfully and I will hire her again to do the upstairs as soon as possible. I would recommend her to everyone who wants to dress up their home.

Excellent experience. Doris came to my home to pick up the materials and discuss the specs. While she was here she gave me some ideas for drapes for my livingroom and later provided me with a detailed quote for that room. Very prompt, returned calls and stayed true to original schedule (actually finished a week early.)

When I purchased my home, I luckily inherited some great custom window treatments from the seller. However, it was obvious that the drapes in my bedroom had been custom-made for another set of windows most likely in another home. They were much too long (and not in an intentional kinda way), and the pleating at the top was done in such a way that the curtains didn't span the width of the window frame. Rather than get rid of the this beautiful fabric (which also had a lining and interlining sewn in), I decided to check out Angie's list to find someone who could alter them. I found Doris and explained what I wanted. I sent her photographs and measurements, and within one day she sent me a quote and a sketch of her plan. I confirmed all the measurements and agreed to let her work her magic. When I dropped off the curtains at her office (which is in the front of her beautiful home), she showed me around the main level to view some examples of drapery pleats so that I would know what to expect. I picked them up just about 2 weeks later. They were perfect! Doris had made some recommendations for curtain hardware that she could order, but I decided to purchase similar items on my own. She was not at all pushy when I told her...she only insisted that I choose hardware appropriate for the luxe feel/style of the drapes. I would definitely recommend her!

Everything went as smooth as it could. Doris is extremely responsive and kept me on schedule. She works very hard and was always very easy to reach. She is easy to work with and was able to understand my needs and make recommendations accordingly. The installation was done very well and I am extremely happy with how everything looks!

My husband and I wanted to change our living room drapes which we have had up for 25 years. I phoned several companies and had representatives come to my home to give me ideas and estimates. Doris was so enthusiastic and honest, admitting to us that there was nothing wrong with what we had up. She told us they were still in style and still in good condition. But she suggested several different designs for us to consider since we said we wanted a change, and left the decision up to us. We liked the design for a cornice board and two panels. She made lots of excellent suggestions and made sure she did not cover up a lot of the huge picture window which shows our beautiful wooded lot. She asked if I had any other rooms that needed drapes because it would be cheaper to do more than one room. I told her I did not have any others. She asked to see my kitchen and said she loved the plantation blinds I had up and my granite and wallpaper. She offered a suggestion on how to make the room look bigger by hanging decorative plates up near the ceiling and moving the clock. We did it immediately and it is amazing how it improved the look. She also met me at Calico Corners to pick out the fabric we used to make the drapes. She did not charge extra for this service. I would never have chosen the fabric she picked out, but it is such a beautiful change and compliments the furniture and adjoining rooms. Doris took photographs of these when she gave me the initial estimate and designs. She also made me two beautiful pillows for my couch that match the drapes, pulling the room together. She suggested buying a colorful throw for one of the wing chairs near the window which I did. Doris and her installment crew were punctual, professional, and not at all pushy, which I liked. She was bubbly and full of personality which made the experience all the more pleasant. I recommend her unconditionall
