Description of Work: We had our master bath completely redone, from floor joists on up. A previous contractor (previous owner) had cut through two joists and over-notched 4 more. D&G had to install sister joists before they could even upgrade our bathroom. We also had some minor work done to the 2nd bath. They did first class tile work and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Description of Work: I purchased a $99 Angie's deal to obtain a landscape plan. He probably consulted with me for about 10 minutes and within those 10 minutes he knew exactly what I was looking for. He drew up a plan and he captured exactly what I was looking for. However I just have not followed through with the plans but I really liked the plan. He was very much on time, very professional.

Description of Work: I was finishing my basement, but needed help with the drywall and plumbing. I talked with Norm Gardner who said that he really didn't think I needed his services since I was doing most of the work myself (would just cost me more). He gave me the names and phone numbers of his certified plumber and drywall experts. I contacted both of them and they did a great job for me (Lorenzo's Plumbing and http://munguiasdrywall.com). I really appreciated Mr Gardner's help and honesty.

Didn't go anywhere!
Description of Work: Since I had to choose a letter grade, I chose F. The reason is simple. I called and left a message about the service I wanted performed (drywall) in a house I just purchased, giving my contact information of course. They never called back and for me that is a deal breaker. It is the end of any consideration about using them as a contractor.

Hi [member name removed], I remember your call because I was on vacation with my family in Wisconsin. I did call back and left you a message stating that I was on vacation and that we did not specialize in drywall. I left you a contact for a drywall contractor that I work with that could help you, Munguia drywall. I am not sure what else I could have done and sorry that you feel we did not respond.

Not responsive.
Description of Work: I requested plumbing, exterior painting and electrical light fixtures' work. I had to call Brandon and ask him about schedullling my work. The electrician is the only only who has shown any responsiveness. The company is simply too busy to take-on any more work, in my opinion. To date, no other work has been done because it's now too late to perform exterior painting. I do not recommend this business. I will, however, use the electrician again.

The work was never started.
Description of Work: I met with Norm Gardner on February 21. He seemed very nice. He suggested we get in touch with his designer. On March 1st my husband and I met with his designer, Charles, whom we liked very much. He sent us a proposal for charges for his services. We decided not to use him since we already were working with a designer. I sent an email to Norm along with the plan for our kitchen. But he did not wish to work with another designer. I think he thought I was just trying to save money by eliminating the designer! This was not true and I did explain to him. In any case, i have not heard from him ever since. It's a shame. I did like him and would have liked to give him a chance to offer me a bid.

Response from Denny & Gardner
Member, At the time you met with Charles, I was unaware that you were already working with a designer. The only reason I was hesitant to work with your designer's plans is that it said on the plans that they were not for distribution. Also, as I told you what you wanted to do with the kitchen regarding the island and hood would need some more work from the designer before I could accurately give you a price. I apologize if this was unclear but this was not a situation that was comfortable with.

Description of Work: Replaced bathroom outlet with GFPI, fixed outlet in basement, replaced exhaust fan in bath with one I bought at Home Depot. Communicated very well (suggested putting outlet flush with backsplash so that no further repair of wall would be needed). Excellent work and price. I hired Denny and Gardner to do a couple electrical things around the house: Install a security system, fix a light fixture that had detached from the ceiling, anchor an electrical cord. I also asked them to replace my thermostat, but they recommend I get an HVAC guy to do that instead because they could not verify the settings at my furnace. I'm glad they referred me to an HVAC expert rather than trying to handle something they are not experts in and maybe messing something up. The rest of the stuff was done quickly and well and for a great price. I am going to have them do a few more things.

Denny and Gardner came into a project in progress and turned what was about to become a debacle into a terrific remodeling experience. We had purchased new kitchen cabinets and countertops from one of the ?big box? home improvement stores, and had intended to use their installer, since we had a good experience with the company on a previous kitchen job about 15 years ago. However, it soon became obvious that their policies had changed drastically in the intervening period, from straightforward pricing to a complicated line-by-line quoting process with huge surcharges for the use of any material they did not supply and an increase in the overall price pretty much every time we blinked. After about a month, we finally gave up and began looking for another contractor. We interviewed 4 from Angie?s List, and while all were decent, Norm Gardner and Jason Denny stood out for both the quality and professionalism of their approach and their interest in working with the homeowner as a partner in the project. Their initial bid was about $1600 below the one offered by the big box store?s contractor, but was actually much more competitive than that, because they included a lot of supplies and finishing items (such as replacing our baseboards) that the big box contractor had informed us would be extra. Because of the reasonableness of the bid and the fact that they were so easy to work with, we added a number of upgrades to the project. The bottom line is that, for about $1500 more that the big box contractor would have charged us for a straight remove-and-replace job, we have fixed basically every problem we had with our kitchen, from the beautiful new tile floor (laid the way WE wanted it, from wall to wall under the cabinets), to replacement of tacky metal pantry doors with beautiful sold hardwood ones, recessed lighting, bulkheads above the cabinets, outside venting of the microwave, a beautiful tile backsplash with inlaid glass tile accents, and other finishing details to numerous to mention. All of the crew were punctual, highly skilled, terrific at attention to detail, and as easy to work with as Norm and Jason. I would (and will) use Denny and Gardner for any home improvement project I need in the future.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen and powder room remodel. Demo'd exisiting kitche and powder room, installed new porcelain tile floor, installed new cabinets, provided and installed recessed lighting in kitchen, installed new ceiling fan with wall control in kitchen, added bulkhead above kitchen cabinets and rerouted microwave vent to outside, installed tile backsplash in kitchen, installed new sinks, toilet, and kitchen applicances. Finishing items included all drywall and ceiling repair, new baseboards, and final painting. Cost noted above represents all labor and construction supplies; I supplied cabinets, tile, appliances and lighting fixtures other than recessed lighting; counterop was handled by a separate contractor.

Having built 3 houses /cabins in Western Maryland as well as major build-outs (basement & master bath) in Alexandria, I can without any hesitation, state that Denny+Gardner has by far exceeded all of my expectations and performed far above all other contractors. They are a detailed, customer-satisfaction focused organization. What they promise up front is what they deliver on-time and on-budget. They provide excellent management of their subcontractors and are ever-present on the job to ensure the work is done correctly. The entire project was completed over a 3-month period with only a 3-day delay due to heavy rain in the beginning when working on the foundation & footers. The PM, Jason, developed & presented a 3-month calendar highlighing work to be completed each week and ensured that they remained on-schedule. During the construction life-cycle, he was always present on the job and made real-time recommendations to improve the final product. Denny+Gardner on-site workers are excellent craftsmen. They arrived on-time, performed scheduled work, and ensured a spotless clean-up on departure. Departure from the site was based upon schedule / task completion versus time on the clock. We are extremely pleased with the results. Denny+Gardner far exceeded are expectations and we are really enjoying our "new house."
Description of Work: Added 14x17 addition to house; relocated / expanded & remodeled kitchen with all new cabinetry, and granite counter tops. Work included installing (& matching) existing wood floors. Installed new windows to include matching existing brick work of this 60 year old house as well as relocation of existing HVAC and plumbing. Additionally, added covered porch and stone patio to back of addition. Denny+Gardner, as the general contractor, suppplied and managed several excellent subcontractors (floors, HVAC, plumbing and landscaping-hardscaping) in performing this work. Their dedicated and tenured employee staff performed all other work.

This is our first experience with kitchen remodeling and we nearly made the mistake of accepting a cabinet refacing offer from a questionable company that will remain unmentioned. Fortunately, I also got a quote from Norm Gardner of Denny + Gardner and have no regrets. For about the same price as refacing, we got excellent quality maple cabinets, quickly installed by skilled professionals (Carlos and associates) and laminate countertops treated with the same attention to detail. I found Norm Gardner to be responsive, patient, honest, and a pleasure to deal with. I would not hesitate to work with this company again on future projects. Highly recommended.

Everything was great. They were able to start work very quickly, complete the work quickly and without any problems. Any adjustments/modifications we wanted they took care of quickly and without complaint. The workers were very professional and courteous, the owners came by frequently to check on the work and talk with us. They took care of everything we needed at a reasonable price and it looks and works great.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled kitchen (flooring, cabinets, counters, paint) and four bathrooms (vanities, flooring, toilets/plumbing, paint, one full shower including concrete base, etc., and one ventilation fan) as well as the foyer, tore out old closet in basement and put in new lighting, built shelving into storage room and utility room, closed the gaps between the stairs, re-carpeted them, and put on drywall backing, and more.

We helped her complete a renovation when another contractor left in the middle of the job. Then a water pipe burst in the kitchen and we helped her deal with a lengthy and often times confusing insurance claim. It included new floors, kitchen (cabinets, appliances, etc.). It took some time but now the house is back in order.

After using our new kitchen for 5 weeks, we?re still delighted with it. The crew members were trustworthy (in fact we left town for a week while they replaced the floors), courteous, and knew what they were doing. They always closed doors to minimize the amount of dust filtering into the rest of the house, and they cleaned up after themselves before they left for the day. Before putting the ceramic tile on the kitchen floor, they leveled out the uneven spots. They kept the new hardwood in the family room covered until the work was complete so as not to scratch it. Their price included everything except the appliances and the ceiling fan, but it did include the installation. Although we purchased some other things, e.g. the wall and floor tile, that price was deducted from the final payment to Denny Contracting. The items they provided were high quality, e.g. Moen faucet and garbage disposer. We discussed several options for counter top and went with silestone, which they obtained based on the pattern and style edging we had found elsewhere. They did extensive re-wiring due to the fact that what they found was not up to code. That work did cost us $800 more than the originally agreed-upon price. They put in the exhaust vent from the stove, which faces an inside wall, to the outside. They placed high importance on pleasing the customer, e.g. they did some custom work on the shelves in the pantry and spice rack, they moved furniture out of/into the family room. All this was done in less than 4 weeks. We highly recommend them.

The house was original from the late sixties and had not had much done to it. The kitchen was original. There were a number of challenges including a very uneven floor, updating an electrical panel and installing a sub-panel, installing a pocket door, etc. It was great working with the members they were very thorough, organized and knew what they wanted so it made it easy when it came to ordering things. We plan on doing a master bath renovation in the fall.

It was such a good experience. No horror stories, just pleasant people and nearly daily visits until the job was done. The primary contractor learned construction Spanish and his men are mostly bi-lingual but at no time was I without an English speaker. The contractors worked professionally (and respectful of noise and mess. They never left without cleaning up, no radios. Peace). I was also impressed with how they walled off the rest of the house so I could go about my life without having to have people walking through it. From breaking through the floor to the final paint and clean, the whole job was painless to me and so very well done. It took about 3 months and I was almost sad to see the company leave. I had one small snafu with a floor and Denny Construction came back and made it right. I'd recommend them entirely and without reservation.
Description of Work: I worked with Yoko Barsky, a kitchen designer, who recommended Denny Construction. I had numerous concerns, like a wobbly floor covered by wall to wall carpet I wanted removed and the floor shored up to prevent wobbles. I wanted to remove some walls and soffits if possible, and I had a too-small closet, a blank and boring wall, and other concerns. Denny Construction worked with me, determining what was possible and the probable cost. They redid the entire great room/kitchen, new floor, new cupboards, redesigned closet, rewired the house to code, replaced some old windows, painted, and upgraded the washroom so it now functions both as a laundry and as a wet bar. Throughout the process, I was informed, the cost was as they said it would be, I received suggestions and we talked through options.

Met with Denny Contracting in late July to review design and order the cabinets. Project was finished on time and we love the new look and functionality. Their suggestion for heated floors was a good one, the entire family including our dog Baxter enjoy this! Denny Contracting conducted weekly project meetings and provided frequent updates on the project status ensuring we were informed every step of the way. We can not emphasize enough the enjoyment we now have cooking, eating and hanging out in our new kitchen and family room. A majority of our daily lives are spent in these two rooms and now it much more comfortable (e.g., insulation, heated floors, etc) and looks really nice. They work hard and do an excellent job ensuring all the fine details are covered and a very trustworthy.
Description of Work: We have a 40 year home that had original cabinets, older flooring, poor insulation, poor lighting, etc., in our kitchen and family. Denny Contracting came out and accessed the kitchen making a number of excellent design recommendations which we implemented. The balanced nice design elements with our budget and were very responsive, professional and easy to work with. The entire kitchen was gutted down to the studs along with the laundry room and some minor electrical and painting work done in the adjoining family room. Insulation was replaced along with older floor boards including leveling the older kitchen floor (roughly 3/4 " off). Recommended a really nice granite countertop (Blue Eyes) and installed really nice cabinets. Installed all new electrical, ceramic tile, drywall, cabinets, appliance, re-trimmed and baseboard'd kitchen and family room, ceiling fans installed, reworked all the older plumbing enhancing water pressure and potential for clogged drains with new drain pipes that were larger than the original.
